Some people spend their whole life trying to become the sort of person Patrick Murdock already is at sixteen.

Respectful. Grounded. Resilient.
And carrying himself like a bloke twice his age.

In Episode 4 of Golf Cart Chronicles, Buzz jumps in the cart with one of Townsville Golf Club’s rising young leaders for a raw and surprisingly powerful 9-hole conversation about life, golf, family hardship, mental health, belonging and why young people need strong culture now more than ever.

Patrick opens up about:

  • Growing up through family struggles and divorce
  • Having to mature early
  • The importance of his mum and nana
  • Why golf became more than just a game
  • Building resilience through adversity
  • The vision behind creating a Junior Committee at Townsville Golf Club
  • Why young people need acceptance, connection and purpose

But don’t worry… it’s not all deep and meaningful.

There’s still:

  • Plenty of shocking golf shots
  • Cart banter
  • Some hilarious quick-fire questions
  • Buzz spraying balls into nearby suburbs
  • And Patrick sounding more like a future club president than a teenager

One of the biggest takeaways from this episode is hearing a young bloke openly talk about wanting to help the next generation feel like they belong.

That matters.

Because belonging saves people.
Conversation saves people.
Community saves people.

And maybe that’s why golf can become so much bigger than golf itself.

⛳ Episode Highlights:

  • “I don’t need a nap… I need a game plan.”
  • “Leadership isn’t age… it’s character.”
  • “Keep turning up. Better days are ahead.”
  • The birth of the Townsville Golf Club Junior Committee idea
  • Buzz pitching Patrick his own future podcast channel under the Who Is Your Hero banner

This episode is funny, honest, relatable and packed full of perspective.

SPEAKER_03

Welcome back, ladies, to another episode of Golf Card Chronicles. And I think it's episode three, where the golf is unpredictable, the conversations are raw, and somewhere between the T-Box and the green, real life unfolds. Today's guest is a young bloke who honestly gives me a heap of hope for our next generation. Patrick Murdoch is only 16 years old, but spend five minutes with him, and you'll quickly realize this kid's carrying himself like a grown man. Respectful, driven, grounded, and quietly resilient. Life hasn't exactly handed Patrick an easy run either. Growing up around instability, family hardship, parents' divorce, and having to mature well before most kids of his age. He could have easily gone the other way. But instead of becoming bitter, he became better. Golf gave him something discipline, belonging, purpose, a tribe. And now this young bloke wants to give back by helping create a stronger junior culture at the Townsville Golf Club, building opportunities, connections, and a voice for younger players coming through, being accepted. This episode isn't just about golf. It's about resilience, respect, mental health, family, and becoming the sort of person you wish you had growing up. So jump in the cart with us as we tackle nine holes, a few laughs, a couple of shocking shots, and one bloody good conversation. This is episode three of Golf Cart Chronicles with Patrick Murdoch. Patrick, welcome to Who is Your Hero and Let's Roll. Thanks, Matt. Thanks for having me. What an honour it is to be here today. It's not an honor, it's an honor to have you here. Thank you. Yep. Who is Patrick Murdoch? So who are you? What's life look like at 16 for you? And why do people say you're 16 going on sex? Um, well, I think as a 16-year-old, I was raised in a sort of an environment where I had to learn to mature. Yeah. You've got brothers and sisters? Yeah, it does. I've got two other brothers. I got um Are you the oldest? Yeah, I'm the oldest of three. Yeah. One is to uh our first father and the second is to our other father, same mother. Yeah. It's yeah, I think I'll just hit this shot quickly. Get on the hill. I don't know that part, yeah. Yeah, I think um yeah, I had to learn to be a bit more mature. And that's sort of sort of what shaped me. Yeah, but you're still with a bit of hardship and we won't go into that.

SPEAKER_02

We don't need to do that on cart conibles. That's okay.

SPEAKER_03

You still could have gone the other way. Or did you feel that you had to to w look after your other siblings and your mum, maybe? I'm thinking yeah, it was I think it was tough for my mum growing up. It was a bit a bit of a hard sort of environment, but we managed to get through it a lot. Everything went my way though, and everything everything sort of went our way, that how we pictured it. Yeah. Because we wanted, you know, ch turned our life around pretty quickly. Here I was there, just having a go, grip grip gripping in together. Yeah, yeah, exactly. It's just a matter of because that's the same thing for your mum. She could have gone another way too. Yeah, exactly. Sh the best thing that ever happened is her recovering from everything and her being a happy soul and continuing living life. I know she does get a bit of stress uh over times, but I know she's a very good mum. So when did you were you born here? Yeah, I was I was I was born in Melbourne. And uh we moved to town so when I turned three. Uh part of Melbourne. Uh I was born in St. Alberts in the Sunshine Hospital. It's another tough area. It was yes, it was a very tough area. Moved up here when you were three. I was born in Melbourne. Oh, were ya? Where else? Cal, I think. Oh wow, okay. With a mercy, maybe I don't know. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I quite I c I can't remember it, but I quite enjoy living here. I've only been here a year. Oh yeah. And I I only here 'cause of my kidneys, but uh I think I'll stay. Where'd you come from? Oh it's just yeah, yeah, wow. From COVID, yeah. I just packed up everything and started driving. Didn't edit and all that government bullshit and say yeah. Then my kidneys failed. Oh really? That's horrible. Hello. Hap for a reason. I wouldn't have done all this podcast and helped so many people if I I was a pretty uh Yeah, I did a bit of um research on the whole situation with the podcast. I um pretty loose. Whoa. What's that for four? That was for five. That one. We're part again. One over, uh one over as a team. Solo boat bogey. Hey, get used to it, your shoulders will be sore playing golf with me. Oh well, you've won every other big team event still. Yeah, so a bit a bit like it. I've had it up and down through life, but yeah, yep. I've always dug deep. Yep. And turned um shit times into good times. Yeah, yep. And I think it's the only way to roll it. And uh you're showing plenty of that. Yeah, yep. So your childhood. Yep. You talked about, you know, your father was missing a fair bit, you had to step up. Yep. That's obviously made you tougher early. Was uh did you think it was maybe normal or di did you work out pretty quick that you're gonna have a different upbringing? Well it was it was tricky because at the start I was I was only nine years old when he left our house and I think it was tricky for mum and the family because mum had no one and she had two young boys, me and my brother Max. And I think the thing was we had to sort of adapt with what we had. And I think that made us stronger. So I've I've asked the question before, at that age, did you think it was normal or could you see other families different? You know what I'm trying to ask? Yeah, yeah, I know what you mean. Kids sort of just say, Well, this is what life is, let's go. I didn't really know what to think of it. That's just we're so stunned, I think, about what was going on. Yeah. Well, that's that's a safe birdie there. Coward's corner. I didn't say you did it. I wasn't gonna say it to you. Uh that's in the water again. I go for a few at the duck. It's okay, we've all been there one day. I like that pin placement though. It's a good spot, isn't it? Much better to be there than anywhere else. See, golf to me is this, it's just fun. Yeah, yeah, exactly. I never get uh worry about my score or anything. I get very nervous about scores when it comes down to the city. Yeah, we got a you're trying to be a pro? No, I don't know. I'll see how golf takes me in a year. And uh there's just so many kids at Townsville that want to be pro, and it's just I think it's hard. There you go. You go work on your game and you all walk in. Hopefully, that'd be awesome if I could, yeah. So when did golf enter your life? Your mum So your mum was just telling us in the c when you when she dropped you off that your grandfather must have been into it. My grandfather was a politician in Malaysia. Politician! He was the I think he was the governor general of Malaysia at one stage. And uh Wow, he enjoyed golf a lot. And I think I'm not sure, I think an angel on my shoulder said to me about golf because one day I had an obsession for um lawns. Mowing lawns. I know it sounds old, but um yeah, I thought maybe that was that was it. And oh my uncle plays a bit of golf down south in Brisbane and I went to a driving range, picked up a club, had a swing, and I loved it ever since. And that was all in 2024. That's it. 2024. Wow. So it's quite recent. These greens have got slow. Yeah, they're very slow. Um quite recent and and yeah, that's um I was gonna be thinking you'd been playing for ages, as no, no. As maybe as uh I started off with a 43 handicap. Escape mechanism or something. Yeah, yeah. I mean I've dri I don't think you need it though. Talk watching holds your own, your ball again. Yeah, like I enjoy golf because it's a peace of mind. It's sometimes good to get out here alone and play a bit, but playing with the other juniors at this club's really enjoyable as well. So what makes you then I used to um thrive on hanging out with my dad's mates. Yep. Very very similar circumstances. At your age, I was going to corporate boxes and events with dad. Yeah, yep. Going to his tennis, to his golf, everything because I wanted to I don't know, maybe I just wanted to learn off older people. I didn't have many young mates either. It was it was quite different. I think it was it's enjoyable playing. I still play a little bit of golf with my dad here and now. Yeah. He get he's getting there. Well, it wasn't as if this became his safe place either, was it? No, no, not really, because you didn't need it. My safe place and everywhere, no matter where it was, was my nana's house. Because that's how okay. My nana looked after us very well. Do you still spend time with Nana? Every almost every day I spend time with Nana. Really? She's such a great person here, Lonnie. Cool. I wonder if we're gonna use one of my shots soon. Hopefully. What are we currently one over through two holes? Yeah. Yeah, but use one of my shots. You're one over at the moment. Well, a team effort, you know. Yeah. Good support. I'm just here for moral support. Watch out though. I'll get a birdie in a minute. I really hope we could, but this could go anywhere. That's a far that's a that's a Oh, a little bit short. Didn't think that. No, it's not short. That was right on it. Are we into wind or out of wind? I think it's besides sideways. Far to cross. Not that far. Tree cornered? That's the best one I've played here. Not too far. Someone can have that ball too. That's how we do it. Hope those aren't pro V1s. I pick up a lot of balls. Do you? Okay, good. So I'm not really fussed about the ball situation. And then I just go to Danny's garage. He's got boxes of new balls and just take them. Don't know Dan as you please. That is correct. Yeah. Shout out to Danny for providing you all that balls. All finance solutions, thank you very much. Packets of balls. So what's golf taught you in the short time you've been playing? In the short time I've been playing, uh, golf has taught me to be resilient. It's also taught me to keep pushing because great things are ahead. Yep. And overall, to just, yeah, I guess stay resilient is the main message uh I've worked out. Yeah, and it's it's a bit like life. I I see golf for people like that because you can have a bad couple of holes, which might relate to either a bad couple of hours. Yeah, yep. Or a bad couple of days, like I'm having today, right? Yeah, yeah. But that's a putt for me. But history says you can't have 18 bad holes. Well well, you can, but then your next round, well, I mean, you know what I'm trying to say? Yeah, I know what you mean. I mean shot away now from playing one of my shots. I felt really bad because I had never played a proper like junior event before. I mean, I played one, but second ever one I ever did, I played really like, I don't know, the first couple of holes weren't too bad. And then I was getting birdies and par every hole, and I ended up winning the Townsville Junior Classic Met Boys Champion. And it was Why did you feel guilty? That's that's a good shot. Well, I didn't no, I didn't feel guilty. I just felt, you know, I felt like it was awesome. It's like I felt so awesome, beat you on the dice for the golf bags. I remember that, yeah. I was I was devastated, but anyway, you know. And it was nothing to do with golf. We did shoot eight under. Were you beaters? What did you guys shoot? We only shot seven, but rolled the dice well. Oh, okay. We only rolled a thing. And then did handle 21. Did we still had yeah there was still handicap involved on there? Oh really? Yeah, because then we got nine handicap for the four of us. Oh, well our whole group was which you would have had. What what was your whole group? And you divided it by eight or something. I think five. Yeah, so you had five and then we rolled bigger dice. Yeah, yeah. I think who's old Miran got there. Steve, he's a good bloke. Oh, yep. Do you know Steve well? Yeah, I know in the cart with the double decker car. Yeah. Is that his on the corner, is it? Yeah, he you turn in the phone check out there. Oh, what does he do for shit we're on my yep? That's the way. He didn't do much because he's the he's a good bloke. Yeah, yeah. Good mentor for you, too. Do you have much conversations with him? Oh, I haven't really had one conversation with him. I have. So what's giving you the confidence to just turn up and sit with the oldies? Because most kids wouldn't. Well, I think, yeah, a bit of resilience. Like I think my age group are out, you know, always partying and I I yeah, I tend to enjoy that a bit. But at the same time, it's always good to have a nice break from Do you still hang around with your mates and that, mate? Yeah, yeah, I still hang out with them heaps. So they're they're my the only they're only the only reason I'm getting through high school. Because they're good mates. Still give them you. But you don't get on the piss or anything like that. No. Do they? Well, a lot they do a lot. I mean, I think that was one time where I got in the piss and mum flogged me. She hated that fact. I promised that I'd never do it again and I kept my promise. Steve, Steve, how you going? But there. We're playing a two-ball ambrose and I haven't had a shot yet. What are we? One over. One over and it's all Patrick. 15. Me? 15. He's one over after three. Stubborn kid. I've never played so well. I don't know what's going on. Do you know what? Marcy John coming here to podcast with me and his best round in two months. Well, me, you must be a lucky child. I don't know what it is. More by coaching. Yeah, you're coaching. Oh, off the part. We've got that ball back. Good, the tree slowed it down. Didn't kill anyone on the 15th. So if I get myself right, which I will in a minute, I can hit it. Yeah, I bet. I just I just have fun. Got the power. There's nothing on it. You're gonna you're gonna get us home on even here. Yeah, have you ever been even for the nine hours? No, I've never. Wow. My best ever front nine? Is? My best ever front nine was four over. Oh, we nearly killed that lady there. Where'd your manners come from? Me manners. I was always raised to to eat with like I think eating with, you know, cutlery and doing like just little things like that, and that's how we were fine-tuned. Me and my brothers were always raised very modest. We uh and that's all came from my nana, really, because her and my late granddad, they used to do a lot for us. And then when he So what would you say your mum Malaysian? My mum's Malaysian, that's right.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, there's plenty there's plenty of respect over there, bro.

SPEAKER_03

Well they've got, yeah, lots of I I remember we went there on a 2018 trip and they came up to us and they all bowed and put their hands to our things. It's yeah, they're very respectful. Spent a fair bit of time overseas, is yeah. Filipino Malaysian. Well, yeah. Pap New Guinea and I know it's not the same. Um by no but um Oh been to I think at I think it's eighteen months old. I went to America. Yeah. With that's where mum's mum lives now. She moved from Malaysia to America. Right. She loves it there. She lives in Seattle. America's not a bad country, but it's up for it's up the pole at the moment. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

My mate just come back from a I mean, I'm not a I'm not a uh I was definitely not a Biden fan, and I'm definitely not a Trump fan, but something needed to happen, but I didn't think he Oh yeah, I think I'm in I'm a on a bit of a like Trump's the lesser of two evils in my opinion.

SPEAKER_03

Like I know Oh hap ya absolutely everyone's gonna hate me for that, but no no, you're right, and and what he is like any politician that lies, he sold us a dream going in and then started a fucking war like the rest of them. And that's exactly it. And that's I think that's You've gotta be very careful because it's all to do with anti-Semitism and Jewish, and uh, I don't want to go there because we're getting a fair bit of bother. No, no, I don't. Yeah, that sort of shit's not quite for a podcast. I don't have any hate for anyone. Nah it's not it's not worth it, mate. Spent my whole life well, I don't have to forgive them. I just don't talk to them again, but I don't hate them. Yep. And I've spent my life like that, and people go, how the hell do you just get over shit? And I said, Well, my dad taught me two. What's the use of worrying? Yeah, yeah, exactly. Like I'm the brokest I've been in life with this kidney thing, but I'm the happiest percent. Great shot, we might actually take that. Oh, you got the first shot we're taking. Wow, what are we on? The fourth hole. Where we go. I'm in the game to the ground. We're on for what? Two? We're on for two. Yep, that is true. So it's what you need. There we go. Yeah, I think that in a hole. No, no. I rolled off. I hope not. It did. I'll bring the card around, actually.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we'll we'll go back around that one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and it's a it's a big thing is is spending your life hating someone that doesn't even really know you're hating them. Oh, that's what mum always taught us. She said, don't ever, you know, judge people. He's a good dude. Yeah, yeah, he's great. Um never to hate people. Hating only brings hate, doesn't it? It does. But you know the person you hate, yeah, because you uh dame well someone hates. Yeah. Does not even give a fuck about you. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And you're never gonna change anything by hating them. Exactly, yep. Except ruin your own life. Yeah. Oh, we might not take yours actually. No, we're not. Oh wow. It was close, it was close tribe. This is the I'll just I'll just build, I'll send you the link and I'll send you this podcast before I put it to air. Yep. I don't normally do that, but did maybe that would after you edit it or do you do the full? After after we edit it. Okay, yeah. And uh I'll send you the one that'll go to air. Yep. And then you can you can say yes or no to anything you like. I will find them. But I've just today built an app. It's my third app. Oh an app? Wow. I sort of had to get about it. Because that's where the money is these days, I think. Yep. So I've got one in an app store. Yep. I built one for the Townsville swing cage. Okay. Come on, shorty. These greens are being marked that. Oh pilot. Missed them. Alright. Tattle it in. Tap in Bertie. No, tap in par. Oh tap in par, sorry, we got that's a par again. So what are we still one one over? One over. Um, yeah, so I'm combining everything and I've just built the mental health app. Oh wow. That combines that you can have in your pocket. Anyone's having a bit of a Duna day or a shitty day, they can pull it out. They've got their mates' contacts to ring, they've got everything local to ring. They've got a diary. Yeah, yeah. Of uh what feels good about good memories. So that gets launched next week. I think um the best thing is having knowing someone is there, you know. Yeah, but a lot of people think they're a burden when they get to that state. And I've been there, you think I just I haven't committed suicide. I'd want to do that, but I'll be pretty low. They think they're a burden on people and then not well, but anyway, and they tend to turn on the ones you know, it's just one phone call away from state another day. That's I would say this golf, look at that. You just went on the shots, it's taken sucking four holes in the city. They were playing well. We got a part. I mean, imagine if this was a comp with our handicapped, we'd be flogging it. Oh, we would. We'd get it. And Townsville Golf Club Seagrade, I'm coming to get you. Oh, here we go. Hey? I was C grade uh three weeks ago, I think. How do you catch these people, don't they start at the start? I don't know, there's randoms everywhere actually. Well, the I thought the lady was in front of us. Did she was, yeah, she went back. Do you want to skip a hole? No, we better not. No. We'll be right. But one up is clacker in a minute and that looks. Hey. Better that one out play. Okay, what was that? Hole four. Hole four, yeah. Yeah, I talked about your menace, didn't we? We sure did. Do you think respect at at at your age and your um peers and that is is disappearing a bit?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's a Because I know when I was growing up, if some of the kids talked to me like they did or or how they pick on people and all that, I wouldn't have got a fucking right rule of hiding.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's just sad because And you know how to give those hidings in. Half my age in Townsels out stealing cars now, so it's quite sad to see. I think people with and you should see school. I go to Pimlico State High School. Oh, is that pretty rough? It's the manners there, kids do not have any manners, and that's why the teachers have a lot of respect for me. I don't get very good grades, but I get passing grades. You don't have to, you just gotta learn much. At least, you know, they think I'm respectful and they think I'm mannered. Mate, if you haven't been down to the amazing Townsville Golf Club lately, what are you doing with yourself? This place is absolutely humming. One of the best courses in North Queensland, Unreal Greens, Magic People, cold beers, good love. And now the swing cage is becoming one of the hottest spots in town. Whether you're a scratch marker or weekend slicer, or just out there for a bucket of balls and a yard with your mates, the swing cage has got you covered. Smash balls under lights, warm up before you're round, bring the kids, bring the crew, even book a function, and parties while you're at it. Let me tell you, there's nothing better than belting a few down the rain with a schooner in one hand. After work, that's therapy, North Queensland style. Massive thanks to the Townsville Golf Club for getting behind Car Chronicles and letting us record live out on course between the shots. The support for the club, the members, the staff, and the legends around the place have been bloody unreal. So next time you're looking for a hit, a feed, a function. With just a bloody good atmosphere, get yourself down to the Townshell Golf Club and tell them, Buzz sent you. Now you'll learn more hanging around the golf club than at school. I know. Exactly. And street street kids. Street wise. I want to finish year 12 just so I have it on record, but at the same time it is. Yeah. Yeah, but in an opportunity came up on or before that. Mark, you know what? You get to. I'll get I get shot for saying this, but the quicker you leave school and get out there and do something, the better you are. Oh, I know. If you're ready. I think it's just a family decision though, because mum wants me to stay in school, dad wants me to drop out of school, Nana wants me to stay in school. Like it's just it's hey, you're right in your mid-loop, you know? It's they've got you so far. Yeah. I'm not going to hit him. I'll go first. Yeah. You're a chance. Yeah, I say to people, your mum and dad and Nana's got you to this stage. Yeah. And never let anyone write your own book. You go write your own story now. Consider it of what they want you to do. What's he waiting for? Are they waiting for people in the green? Oh, we might be backed up, eh? It's alright, we'll get a good podcast then. We're moving along good anyway. Yeah, yeah. Great shot, mate. Yeah, so just remember your story. And I'm not saying that to take anything away from your school grammar. I've got lots of mixed opinions about staying in school. But you've got to make sure if you're gonna like this kid's not going to school for the sake of not going to school. Yeah, exactly. And they don't do anything. What do you reckon you've got your eyes set on? On nothing at the moment? Um, well, hopefully either trade because I want to get some real work experience, some real life experience before I move into public life. Oh, come on. That's it. Yeah, no, I want to yeah, get into public life in the long term. But I've also been looking at the Australian Border Force and Darwin. That that uh that would be a good copper job. Yeah, no, I won't I don't want to be a copper. No, but no, but federal is that federal police, mate? No, it's um it's under its own branch. I think it's under Department of Primary Industry. That'd be a good job. That'd be right. Mounts off the hill. Yeah. That's very short, as I thought, but anyway. Yeah, no, I've yeah, I've always one of my mates, my brother's mates, actually, Stephen Casey is Nate Wilson. I was a kid, joined the border force. And uh what a job. I even like watching that on tally. I mean, because you're not gonna get Oh, I've seen it. I've actually watched it that much. You're not gonna get shot at, but only you get mad Vietnamese fishing boat people, that's all you get at. Yeah, but I suppose you're well protected in there. Boy, exactly, yeah. You get the fine drugs and Well, I want to work on the marine time, like the maritime or tactical operations and when they raid boats and they go into the middle of the sea at night and find out who's sinking in, like that's what I want to do. I'd be like, You want to do that? Someone do it. That'd be awesome. Is that what they do? That's what they do, yeah. Fed it's not federal police. No, no, no. They work with the federal police, but they aren't the federal police. A armed? They aren't, no. Are you armed? What? Would you be armed? Yeah, yeah, we are armed. What a job. What do you need to get into that? It's a bit late for me. Well, I'm currently completing a doubt there, yeah. Bounce off. He bounced off the tree and came back. Mate, you are having a round like no other round here. Where then not put this on your card. Oh, well, God. You lose another five shots. The no, it's it you, yeah, that's me. Toddless 4, the Pro VY. Wow. Well, here we go. I better contribute now. I'm feeling a bit guilty. Not really. What a what a career. Yeah, no, it's an interesting career, and I'd love to do it. It'd be awesome too. Why Darwin? Um, is that probably where the worst are coming from, I suppose, huh? Darwin, I think Darwin, Sydney, Brisbane, and Gold Coast is the options. But I feel like Darwin, I think, oh actually I know so. Darwin is the only place that offer uh offers a maritime patrol because it's New Guinea and all that region. Indonesia's clothes. Yeah, yeah. It gets all very rough up there.

SPEAKER_04

That makes sense.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, no, that'd be an awesome job to do. And I'm doing a cert for injustice at the moment at school. Law. And that's yeah, it's a type of law degree if you want to be in some sort of uh enforcement agency. It's a good idea. Do you like reading? Not really. It depends what I'm reading. Yeah, but I mean you that's what law is, isn't it? It's only understanding I don't do very well at legal studies, but I do do very well at the cert for justice. Good job though. How do we get under that subject that wasn't on the list? Um, I think like careers-wise. No, we were talking about respect. Anyway, that's what happens on this podcast. Well, we go off topic. Doesn't matter. Now I want to hit it over this tree. Alright, here we go. Alright, if it's Oh, we're gonna get out of the Vinecoat. Shit, I better Better if I can do it. That's my bad foot stance right there. Wasn't it? Oh, I was supposed to be aiming the other way, but I was aimed the other way. Oh well. We're a fair way out, aren't we? Yeah, so I just put this right through that gap we just had. Yeah. Takes fluff out, gaps out. Yep. I can like say put in Steve Milly, take anything out there, and then get it back into a ready to go. So it's like an AI editor thing. Wow, the powers of AI. Oh, mate, I get ripped for using AI. Yeah, yeah. But I at my age and people my age, I said, mate, if you don't learn it, yeah, yeah. You're gone. Yeah, exactly. Absolutely gone. Hey, how's these helicopters? Yeah, there's sent three more up to look for cars now. Uh three more. I'm not gonna say anything because I'm a part of the people who put it up then. Uh what? I'm a member of the LMP, the Liberal National Party. That's all right. Um and that no, we're not playing out here. Oh, that's right. I'm used to waiting for other people's hatch. Oh, we're catching, baby. Well, we're playing it. Oh, I would. It's easy. It's nice and quick as yeah, we can still birdie this. All right. Oh, I gotta hit a flop over this bunk up. Yeah, yeah. You wish I had my sandwich, but I lost it a few weeks ago. Mystic Sands. We got the Mystic Sands comp coming up this Saturday and Sunday, the junior got Greg Norman qualifier. Is it? Yeah. Looking forward to that. Greg Norman, too. You wouldn't have seen much of him play. He was absolutely brilliant. Not that that not that old. See, I was I was lucky because Dad was going to all the pro ands, like the masters and all that. Yeah, yep. So I'd tag along with him to find his car in the car park because he'd get that pissed. Oh, really? Yeah. So I met all these and watched golf. I was so into it. He always don't have to do something here. Patrick has put that on to the seventh. The dough. My viewers, he's had a bit of a choke on this hole. Yeah, yeah. But I like the pressure. Oh, we're there. They're gone too. Oh, might have just rolled down, but it might be better than mine anyway. There you go. I spoke too soon. Okay, chickens pull hatch. We need to get this. We're gonna. Oh, looks like we're taking yours. Oh, look out, we got one of mine. There we go. Fresh on at the time. 446, we teed off that. 415. I haven't learned to back spin yet. My only I'm around the Oh fucking hell. I better chip it well now. Might be our final fold hole.

SPEAKER_02

Don't forget your pu- Oh, you need it.

SPEAKER_03

Hey the ladies back following us. Must have had a spell. What's this for? And we had one off the T, two to the middle, three over, four. This'll be for five. No. Gotta put it in. One of us gotta put this in. Just to make the two over. Yeah. Can't go any deeper than that. Alright. Right line, but uh That's not fair. Yeah, no, I don't think it's either. No, but we're gonna mark it's two over. Alright. Let's hope we can get a few birdies on that score. We're out, yeah. We will. I love playing golf like this. It's almost like live golf. It's fast. Hopefully this rain doesn't come in, eh? No, we'll get home before then. Yeah. Do you have to work when you get back? No, no, no. They work. Not in the carts. No. Day off, is it? Day off, I only work Tuesdays and Thursdays. Be a good little bit of money for you. That's an interesting job. Um do young blokes these days struggle mentally more than people realise or um I yeah, I think mentally a lot a lot of kids my age, Steen, even to 21, no matter what your age, I think men have a very Yeah, mental health is such a serious thing. I watched my dad go through it. He was age, I think, 30. Yeah. And um I watch my mates go through it. It's just it can hit the lightest of us all. Like it can hit the happiest. They go to school putting a smile on their face and you don't know what's going on with their life, and then bang, you before you know it, something that's happening. I always wonder if it was all around when I was your age, but is it just the mechanisms or people maybe didn't talk as much or I think I don't know. What's happening here? Group of five.

SPEAKER_02

A big group up there, isn't it? Six?

SPEAKER_03

Why two, four, five around six?

SPEAKER_02

What's he doing? He said, fuck it. Is he going straight to the other hole, is he?

SPEAKER_03

I would turn five then.

SPEAKER_02

That's not very good. I don't care what day it is. Yeah, group of six. He might be gonna jump then, but he could have jumped in too. No one knows, right? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so I don't know. And you you could probably say the suicide rates were lower back in my day, but they wouldn't have been counting the statistics they're counting these days. Oh, I think yeah. Did I remember it wasn't such a I think awareness only came out in the last ten years or so. Like there wasn't a lot of awareness when well, you know, mum and dad were in school or you're in school, or then I've got a little bit of a problem with people getting tagged or branded that they're mentally ill when they're not. Yeah, because the doctor says you are so you think you are. Yeah, yeah. I got a bit of a problem with that, which I spoke about in other podcasts. So uh but I don't know the answer. I I do have a problem with going to the doctor and giving these dexiamphetamines answers, but no, that's take these and you'll be right. Well, that's fucking bullshit. I don't know. They put me on it for a while and it made me worse. I have a mate, I won't know saying his name, but he um had a pretty rough childhood as well with his parents, and yeah, the doctor's prescribing a medication now, and he tried to say he didn't want it, but his parents think it's the best for him, and he's in a situation where he just doesn't want to take it any. Fortunately, people like him, he doesn't have a you know, nana like me. I'm way person, you know, to look over, and he doesn't have a person. Now, yeah, your grandma must be a bloody one special is it your dad's or your Yeah, my dad's mum, yes. But she still gets along with my mum and she gets a she's just such if I was to say anyone in the world is the best person, I'd reckon my nana would be up to Well, there's a question at the end of this podcast. So you just dropped a bloody answer. Sorry, well you're edit that out. Yeah, I can do that, then add out that out. No, I don't care. No, no, no. She's obviously a legend. Yeah, get rid of it. So your mum and dad aren't together anymore? No, my mum and dad had a horrible divorce in 2018. Right. It was really bad. Um So where's your dad back? My dad lives here in Tansville. Got his own business now. So you get on a right with him? I get yeah, we see him every second weekend. We got all the custody worked out. That's good. But I know he's yeah, he's had a rough childhood and a rough But he's trying he's trying his best. Yeah, yeah, exactly. No, that's good, it's worked. He's got an apprentice, he's just got his team. Is he a builder? Yeah, he's a builder, yep. He's a chippy. Cool. He wouldn't be that old, would he? I think he's only about forty something. Yeah, something. Yeah. Come on, you've used my drive. And that's okay. Your turn. We've got it. That's all right. Good drop zone. And chunked it. Yeah. I like that that they've put the drop zones in. Oh, I love it. Because it's just giving clarity, hasn't it? Where you if the bunkers are out, you've got to go to that oh way of course I'll go. You know, these bunkers are probably good. Oh no, but it'll knock. I'll tell you put it up to it. I'm all right. Nah. It's gonna block ya. Not about. You can see in the yellow line. Oh no, can you still go? I just wanted to pick it up. Yeah, it made a big difference because everyone's perception of where you fly from without a marker was bad. Yeah, exactly. It's just as doing a bit better. And look, Chewie's put that one in it. After he's got a chip almost if it was over a little bit more. So what's Chewie in charge of the course? He's he's um his job is yeah, w works with the great the the course staff. Grink will get the junior rep, I didn't know that. Is he? He's a junior rep. He'll be good to get on with. We're gonna talk about that in a minute. Talk about your brain tiles. Uh, it's gonna be a long time behind them unless we jump him. Stayers, we've got to ask to pass them. Yeah? No, that way. Not from that tea. Shouldn't be bothered. I had all the parents and PC turn in front of me. Junior opened last year. Oh, we're all up there now, standing all in front of me, and I'm surprised I didn't hit one of them. Seven. So those are the type of people that hit the houses. Yeah, and we get in trouble. And exactly now it takes it out on the members. I've got to just get it over this hill. It actually could launch. Oh. Hey, give me the right idea there now. Yep, see you had a good look at that. We're here for two. Wow. Oh go down. That chunky. Well, we're taking mine. Probably. Easier than that, I think. This guy must be selling this golf cart. How much does he want for it? Twelve grand. Oh my god. Looks like shit, doesn't it? It looks like all Chinese to see. Everything's made China, isn't it? So what's this for par? Yep, this is for no. That was it. Oh, we were there. Oh yep. There you go. Pa. There you go, it's in. Get in the hole. Best shot I've seen here today. No. Wow. I missed. See if I can make this for a bogey. Look at that. So I said three over. Over. That's still not a bad nine for you. Not too bad. You should go. We should drive back to this one. Yep. Play that. Play 18 and pay ten. Yeah, we could do that. Rather than wait until these rubble gay. Good idea. And let them have their fun. They probably all started individually and Imagine if Mitch caught him. Imagine if Shuey caught him. Law. He's really good when he catches catches people, I know. You should see when these kids go on the golf course. He rips into them. Yeah, but there were kids fishing the other day in a comp and he just goes over. He says, boys, can you I don't care you're fishing good on ya? But don't the right time. He was really good and they packed up and left. Because you'd rather the kid fishing than stealing cars. Oh true. It's easier to well. It's a better thing to do. They probably weren't thinking, but they weren't doing anything bad. Yeah. I didn't even know there's fish in the dams. Yeah, yeah. Oh didn't they legalise fishing in the dams? Alright. Now we go for time, good. Uh it's five o'clock. What? Five o'clock. Hour? We're going well. We're very well. How long do your podcast normally go for? Oh, once I cut that down from a good 45 minutes out of it. Oh good. Yeah. What advice would you give to other kids struggling at home? Have you have you got mates to come to you and have like chat about? Oh yeah, I've had a few, but if I was to give one piece of advice to mates, I would say keep pushing through, close your eyes, and you'll get through it. Yeah, it's like it's like Tim McF uh McKee, the solicitor. Yeah, he says it's pretty unlikely you're gonna have three sh days in a row. And I love that comment. Highly unlikely. Highly unlikely. Yeah, true. So get out, get moving. Just do something. And that's what I was sort of deriving that app around. I want to I want to do milestones that, you know, it might be bloody going and water in the garden. Yeah, yeah, I think it's a great up. Yeah. It's yeah, I'll I'm gonna actually when you release it, you text me and I'll download it. Yeah, be a great up. It's gonna be sponsored, so it's free for everyone. Good, good. What do you got? Grab life jumping on it and that. Yeah, I've got those. We're gonna localize helplines. Oh, we're just darting holes to keep moving. What are you doing? Yeah. We had like a group of seven in front of us, so we've just moved holes. Do you want to travel with us? Yeah, I'll drop and we're gonna go here, eighteen and then ten or something. Because those lakes over there you're fucking slut. I'll be gone further than you, Patrick, off the uh tree. Did it come down? Yeah, right in the middle of the field. You got it still there. Here's a burglar. Oh, here we go. Yeah, a real burglar. Alright. It'll work. Alrighty, enough enough of the bloody you've always wanted, so you've got a few kids that you just give advice to keep moving. Yeah, yeah, I know. I have a friend who can a lot. And you think it's more male or is there a lot of females now there? I actually the most serious person who came to me with problems was actually a female. Yeah. And she yeah, she had a lot of problems with her her boy ex-boyfriend. Is it um particularly what's the ratio of broken marriages in your class? Oh would it be more not married than or more together than together or not really? Um actually it's actually pretty good statistics. Where's mine? Sure it's not coming up. One there. That's it that's his ball, I reckon. Boss wine. I watched this pretty good one, huh? It's pretty straight. Oh, there's one. Oh, that's his. No, you got further than this. No way. What? And there's how didn't it just disappear? They do. It's straight down the middle. What about been in the sprinkler? They've all been cleaned out. No, booth, fing chim. I guess I'll just drop one, eh? Yeah. To you somewhere. Let's drop one out. Yeah. We're not flying for shoep station. So you reckon the ratio with girls and boys at your age would be 50-50? Easy? Probably. Boys to girls. Yeah, boys to girls, yeah. 70-30. Feel it. Right idea. That's in that leach. It'll blend a rough straight. That's a good chart. Short. Short. What club? Eight iron. That's because why'd you choose that? Or you just didn't hit it right? Well, because I saw 130. I'm thinking oh if seven iron might be too much over the thing, but maybe I should have gone seven iron. But also didn't hit it the dirt enough.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. What what are your three over after six? Yeah. You've pretty much done it all yourself.

SPEAKER_03

Oh good shot, James. That's a great shot. Where's my ball? I hit it up there, didn't I? No one my memory's back. So from these. Actually, I can go around without it locking. I'll just go and pick the ball out to show it, can't you? We can actually. He's gonna go eighteen. That's a good shot by James. Great shot by James. Mine's got too much going on. It's closer. What do you want to do? We can go yours if you want. Yeah? I better put myself on the stats. Yeah, yeah, go, go. Yeah. We're on the six hole, and I've this will be the second time we're playing a two-ball. Second time I'm on the stats. You can do that, sir. Here we go. I'm gonna try this new technique of a bump and run with a seven-iron. Why not? This is not enough. That's aw. Yours. You play yours. Pop them. Hey? I'll just call that, eh? Tap that one in. Better go cover up in clubs. So just cleaned them. We've got to play AD. I love ADN. Yeah, 18's a. Should put me rain glove on. Well, have you got one? I've got a black rain glove. Fuck hell. Us juniors don't stock. We have mum and dad's money. I just put that under there. Okay. Get under the um committee stam. Yep. Why do you want to start a junior committee? Um, my main reason for a junior committee, it was a sort of top of the ever since I joined this golf club, I thought about the juniors and um what our club could have. Juniors committee, it's full of actual base for people to come to, speak about ideas, you know. So but wouldn't it wouldn't go to the senior guys at all, would they? It'd just be gallant for you. Yeah, it's sort of. And I think juniors get along with their own age group a bit more. Yeah. Yeah, and they they might be more uh forward. And at the same time, they'll be a bit more, you know, less scared too. Like we'd approach you, Mark is twelve year old's gonna go up to a group of, you know, management people to say an idea. And with a junior committee, I'm sure we can branch it out and get it started because I think it's probably a great thing. Do you think of it there's anything else missing at golf clubs for young people or just the voice mean? The voice is the main part of it all. I think a voice of juniors is what so when you speak about someone, you know, it's best to speak to them directly, not about the person that Yeah. Yeah, like someone saying something for someone else. Yeah, exactly. But uh but then you just yeah, go grace straight to the source. End up with Chinese whispers. There you go. Otherwise. So have you got you got some ideas you already want to implement? Uh we're gonna do a junior parents fun day for a little fundraiser day, hopefully, just to get a bit of club for the money for the juniors. As in a golf game. A golf game, parents versus juniors, hopefully. Yeah, that'll be good. We might get another hole, eh? Yep. How are you? Yeah, good. Well, that could be on the cockroach path. Whoa, whoa, number eight off the path. No, it's stay it's gonna stay in play. It's rolling down the path now. It is going to stay stay in play. You see? I think it's on the edge. I don't think I got wet. Smoked it, didn't hook, fade, and up and do, what? At least that rain sort of disappeared. It has, hasn't it? Yeah. Got a few more stuff to do, so we can't give up. Yeah, no, we think I hold him. Can't throw in these clouds over with me. Is it? Yeah. Oh, that's uh Sex Toys daughter. Daughter on the end, new boyfriend is a good fella. Yeah, Travis. He was on the punter's art, actually. Is he? Yeah. He got he got sponsorship by Putters for golf. Yeah. Not sure how. I really want a sponsorship on them. I need a rang fight. I don't I you know, still on all my days as with golf and I've never owned one. What what I what ideas do you already have for the juniors? Oh yeah, father and son, mother and son, golf day. Oh yeah, parents and juniors, yeah. Um have a is that you? Yeah. Over the back. Holy moly. Another idea would be um just raise a bit of awareness for juniors like that. Well, we know did you land there? No, that's that's not mine. This is mine here. You out of bounds. Oh, actually, that might be James there. What are you playing? No, this is me here. Yeah. What are you playing? Where might land? Not out of bounds though, so. What are we playing? Let's just play chat. Our own balls from this and show you how good I am. Yep. You gotta talk you can still talk. Yeah, yeah. About ideas, what's the question? 200 metres it goes back to be fun. So some ideas for it. It's probably be establishing, yeah, just overall junior recognition for the club. We that's a good flopper. Getting there. You do flop, I can't like. So that's a really good idea, that parents, and that'd be a good one for a Saturday comp. Yeah. If you could get Mitch as you listen to my podcast, uh to do a day, take a bit of organizing, but be all the son, mother, daughter. Sort of he. I haven't spoken too much about it yet. Oh no. You'll hear about it now. Cool. If I had a straightened Well, I thought it was gonna roll in. It's also like the first hole I think you've soloed. Whether you're a scratch marker or weekend slicer, or just out there for a bucket of balls and a yard with your mate, the swing cage has got you covered. Smash balls under lodge. Warm up before you're around. Bring the kids, bring the crew, even book a function. Have parties while you're at it. Let me tell ya. There's nothing better than belting the food down the line with a schooner in one hand. After work, that's therapy. North Queensland's gone. Mattie, thanks to the Tanical Golf Club for getting behind Car Chronicles and letting us record live out on course between the shops. The support for the club, the members, the staff, and the legends around the place have been bloody unreal. So next time you're looking for a hit, a feed, a function, or just a bloody good atmosphere, get yourself down to the Townsville Golf Club. Tell 'em, buzz thank you. I didn't even see me ball with the clouds, so I knew I hit it well. At least the rain's pissed off for now. Yeah, I love that concept. Yeah, no, it's a good idea. Some sponsors for it. You could make a really only we've been thinking about like that's the next step is polos for the juniors. Imagine if you see all juniors wearing polos. Yeah, like the old boys have got. Yeah, exactly. Like the old boys have got. Imagine if we had it. That'd be a good sponsorship. Be awesome. No, someone that might do that, Paul. Polos. Let me know. We're looking for someone now. We don't know. Danny Mack, he's into that shit. Does he? Probably within the next three days. Nah, he's he's that's all finance solutions. He'll finance us. I've sponsoring shit the Twervy. Yeah, yeah, no, that'd be awesome. Yeah, that Danny? No, you won't hear it if you don't listen to my podcast. Danny, if you're listening. He won't even come on it. Oh, that's never so scared too. He needs to grab life by the balls. It's not even Yeah. That's not even hard work, is it? It's just a chat. Exactly. It's not that serious. I mean, it's just No, I mean sometimes the other ones get a bit serious, but these golf cart chronicles are all about just having a yarn. Oh, it's good. Um sorry it's good to have a yarn. How important do you reckon is belonging for kids? I'm not talking your kids, you'll be teenagers, but yeah, belonging to something early, whether it be a footy club, I mean the culture I've grown up in quality clubs, yeah. Culture that's not too good, I must say, now that I'm at the other side, there's a lot of booze and drugs and and and that sort of shit. Yeah. You know, macho, but yeah, just really good to see there's a lot of young people at this golf club. So how important is belonging per kids' mental health at that? Long like, for example, this club has helped me so much with my mental health, and I think playing golf is the best thing that ever happened to me. Yeah. I enjoy everyone who is here, everyone supports me. But your pity out there and sharing here your life's going too, and that's there's not many kids that do that. No, no, and I think so much easier to do it than bottle it up, isn't it? Yeah, I do it because I think I enjoy, you know, speaking to people about it so that we can reflect on it, use that and create something new. But yeah, belonging just it's about belonging for a young person is the best thing they can do. Get involved in a sports club. Yeah, a lot of a lot of shit's uh So what's the word I'm looking for? Acceptance is one. Yeah, exactly. That's a big one. But there's an there's another one. I think it is acceptance. That's what we search for our whole life. Oh, it could be using now that is a tough shot to get out of. What's happened to you? I need to change the torque of my driver. I got this from Alan Loughgrove. Yeah. And um, it's the best thing that's ever happened to my driver. It only goes 150 metres then. No, he's never used it, which is why I took it off him. Oh, he never used it. And what's the longest you hit with it? Um, I hit I think 260 metres is my best. 16. He's far out. Well, those people on hole one better watch themselves. Fuck, I wish I could get something straight. You did hit it straight, just the wrong direction. Probably alright. Oh look where you're aiming. I know. Take four of them. You could have drive the green at that. No, but sometimes I hook them and then I'm thinking I'm I don't know what I'm doing. Yeah, yeah. They want me to start aiming at our palm tree, but I'm not gonna see enough. Yeah, acceptance. It's it's a massive word, and I think when I sit here and have a have a meeting with the boys on a Wednesday and you have a look at what Katie and Mark and those they got with a junior program, this club's in we've got you've got to capture that. Yeah, yeah. We're thinking of we're thinking of how it's a big ball. Having of our meetings every once a month on a Wednesday. Yeah, yeah, uh junior meetings. So with Katie, mine one and mark and that, which would be good. Yeah. And what is it is uh and should we? 'Cause he's in Bart or you just report to him out of the m well, he's actually thinking about getting an actual adult to represent the juniors so that they can sit in a management meeting and report back to us. But then report your meeting back to the senior committee. Yeah, exactly. But it's an idea. It's just I feel that um it's all being passed on and it's sort of a Chinese whispers, like if I said the dog and then they'd have said the cat and then someone said the rat, then it's all, you know, changed from it'll come together. Yeah, hopefully. I mean, I'm Shuey's being pretty passionate about it. Simon's been pretty passionate about it. Well there's a black shenanigan. Like if they're and if someone said to me, if you've got Simon and Shue in the thing, you've got it. 100%. That's it, you know, you're movers and shakers in clubs and they just meet you in the couple of them. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Now this is gonna be an impossible shot here. Ah it's not nothing you. Really? Uh-oh. See the gap you got there? I reckon I can hit this? Where'd I go? Oh, in the water, I think. Ah, I made it. Oh, did you? I'm gonna grab it. It's a reader. That's like that looks very ho like. Is that you or me? Yeah, you you might be up a bit further. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, you were close to the water. Did you get shot? Come on, boys. Hell. Oh no, I waited. Yeah, I have a tattoo Danny about that and um Yeah, junior pocket on your ideas. Anyone have funds, you know, it's gonna do some golf shirts. Over who we got foo- who is your hero? So I might own anyone the ideas yet. Oh wow. And then we got some others. Yeah, it is a brand, and they see you walking around and you're part of the club. Well, imagine wearing them and you'd be like, Well, you know, they're a part of the townsome golf club. Rose may have them like Do they? Yeah, we the we sh we are the top club in North Queensland. We should have some junior polos. Drop me off. Bay for me. Hey James go, we're here. What we could do is we could go to eleven and then finish on nine if you want. Yeah, we should beat those folks. I can hear them. You might jump this, do this. Yeah, I'm not fast. I've got a few more questions, so yeah, and come back down nine. Those guys would nearly be on nine though, wouldn't they? They on that that side. Yeah. So I can play golf. Look at that shot. Hey, I'm the critic. Look at that. Very happy for him. Just don't concentrate enough on it, but I don't care. I love doing this shit. Yeah, yeah. And you know, if my kidneys didn't fail, I wouldn't be so doing this shit. To find a lift from Nana's heavily involved with the road tree. Which one? The Ross River. Granddad I'm gonna get into rotary. I know a stack of rotary. Do you? Yeah, yeah. Granddad used to be a big py over. He was the president up until he died. Right. 2018. Yeah, there's some good clubs around here. Yeah, and he Danny's wife me with the Saints. Oh yeah. Tim Mc McKee is with a big one. Potentially might be the same one you're talking about, I don't know. It's the strand markets one. I still hit the shot well on the phone. Doesn't matter how they get there, it didn't look that pretty. As Chewie says, no one's taking a photo of how they get there. Yeah, exactly. But that burglar shot from me. That's in. No. Oh. Cain's falling apart. I think so. Two over after five you were. Remember that? Yes. Remember that. But that's golf and that's life. As an Ambrose as well. Yeah. But I wasn't doing any. Like that, like I wasn't dropping them. So you're president. No, you can't be. I can't be actually. Then you get in a few years you get on the senior committee. And then you become the club president. Oh, well, I've got we're looking a bit too we're looking far into the future. Management here um would be an awesome opportunity. But uh for now I think I think the main thing's focusing on um my career as a tradesman, hopefully. Well and a bit of golf. Exactly, a fair bit of golf here and now. Oh the Let's score 15. Habnut making I did. But that was old furniture. Did you do that for four years and then went and worked from the old man here at supermarkets? Yeah, yeah. My dad worked for his old man as a painter and then a boiler maker and then a hat. Now he's a chippies. And then my whole um persona, why I am like I am is one my dad and I had a down syndrome brother. Yep. Two years above me, and he was my rock and he he told me how to laugh. Oh awesome. Because Down syndromes don't have any barriers. Yeah, yeah. Everyone's beautiful. Yep. They don't hate anyone. Yeah, yep. And uh so travelling all along there. We can still see, so we might as well still go on. Who's picking you up? Your mother? Yes. Yeah. When you're finished, that's yeah, well no specific time. No, no specific time, she knows I'll right. Okay, I think we're getting into the uh that was tile seven. Yeah, what do you reckon? I threw this idea and when I started this podcast, I wanted to actually reach a younger audience. Yeah, yeah. Now my who is you here are my three other card capers, obviously. Yeah. And a next level podcast I do with my partner Carly, who's a kinesiologist, and she goes deeper and deeper into people's lives, but which you can't do for young kids.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. And then I threw that option there, I got some spare channels.

SPEAKER_03

Do you reckon uh do you reckon it'll be good if you could maybe not you or someone you might know be able to start their own we could have even like a committee, we could have all the g all us committee members, we could go out and do podcasts and bring it all back to the same junior. Yeah. Like a you could interview like an ABC News thing where there's one different reporter everywhere. Well, that's it. And and they can do their podcasts and you bring it into the thing. And I even bloody they started put jot names down for it because I've only worked on this for a while, but I've never had anyone that's um uh Young Guns with Patrick's, Gen Heroes, Fairway Futures and Blake's Crub, that's a bit shit. Beyond the Fairway? Beyond the Fairway. Sixteen going on 30. That's a that's a good one. Like your mother said, I agree with her. But um, yeah, so and and that gives them an outlet to tell their story, but not only listen to stories like yours because there's plenty of kids that have had a life like you that have turned a shit. Yep. More so than the outcome we've got with you. I think you would be only crawling out of it. And I'm not wrapping you up at all. Yeah, you'd be a minority out of just saying that was life. Yeah. I can't do much about that. But you've still got people at 50 and 60 years of age saying, Oh, I had a shit childhood. Yeah, yeah. Do you know what I mean? Fucking hell, you've had 40 years to turn that round, boy. Yeah, yeah. It's I think it's a So so glass half full or glass half empty. You know what I mean? Well, I think I've had shit life. Yeah, yeah, exactly. But I haven't I haven't left it there. I've said, Well, fuck, I've got to get up again. So have a think about it. And whether you did you start it. I mean, I'd really love if you had a really close mate that was interested too. Yeah, Bailey had Bailey Douglas. He's a great kid. And you two did the podcast every once a week. Yeah. Just sat down and interviewed a kid or talked shit. Yeah, yeah. There you go. That our other kids understand. Yep. Only they'd be good on it. That'd be a great idea. That's a nice note, isn't it? This I love playing golf better than like a mysteriousness of where'd you go? I chunked it, but anyway. I'll take a photo of it. What do you reckon? I don't know. No. I'll just see if I can get my stat on the fairway, eh? Actually got a spark. Spark off Elves Club. That another ball gone. Oh, do you think we could find it? Some people would go looking for that. I bet they would. Okay. I remember during a comp round they had four blokes looking for their ball. I don't know. I'll just move on. I shouldn't use a new ball on these holes, you know. Yeah, I know. But you know where we go, back to Danny's. Danny's obviously got a lot of balls to spare there. He has shitloads. That's gonna finger. It'll do. Do you have a handicut, James? Do you have a handicap? Plenty. It'll come. You were leading the open in Seagro for a while, were you? Nah. Oh, you finished tied second, did you?

SPEAKER_04

No, I finished tied fifth. Oh second first, then. And then second day decided.

SPEAKER_03

Nah, we won't even look for that one, but I know it is. Bit of direction training I need. Patrick? Yeah, well. There's a way to put your feet. Now if you don't mind me asking, you think you spent some time in prison, what'd you do time for? Oh yeah, Simon said that. Did he say that? Yeah, he was joking. What did he say? Did I do you gonna tell him about your time in prison? He was doing it to shit, do you? So you didn't go to prison? No. Cause so I thought you actually went to prison. Nah. Not me. Do you know the only reason I haven't been to prison? What? They haven't caught me. Hey, gee. Oh, that really made me hear you laugh, that one. Yeah, yeah. Is this you? That is me. Alan's somewhere here. Not very far, but oh well. Well, you've got Al's driver. Yeah, that's it. Yeah, that's Alan Love Driver. Love the guy. He's he gave me a driver for free. There you go, and you're hitting it like Alan. He listens to the podcast too. Oh well. He'll love it. Shout out. I've just done a podcast with him. I'm editing a bit yeah. Where? Okay. He stepped up. How long does it normally take you to edit these things? Half an hour. Well, I just go bang into a program called Riverside. Riverside, yep. And I chuck it back to Adobe and put my music in. What's your favourite song? Probably High Love by Igo and Whitney Houston. Higher Love, that's High Love. You know, like bang me. Okay, well that's the song that's going with your podcast. It's actually not by Whitney Houston. Who's it by? I don't know. I don't even know. No, I know. Trey chuckling right to his buddy Ding Walking. Didn't he have a fight with dips? This this is the guy who had a fight with Dip Dickhead, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, let me have a shot at him.

SPEAKER_03

Cathy boy. Yeah, he had he had a fight with dips. He's a good he's a good fella, he's just a dickhead that's abusing everyone. I don't know, I don't think so. Oh, there's so many of them on this course. I didn't. They buying they buy in the golf course and they hate golfers. Go fee. It's like everyone who lives in here. That's what I'm saying. He buying the eggs. It's fucking hilarious. It's just crazy. Get your rangefinder out and tell us how far out we are. We'd say, Oh, that's right, you haven't got one. It's the eight hours. If you're listening there, the trip needs a range finder. Yeah, exactly. Tidalists, if you're listening, or punters. Oh, you want a sponsorship? Anywhere. Anywhere sponsorship. Alright. Don't like this club. We couldn't be sending it, but we'll have a go at it. Hi! What a shot. Went straight in. I saw that. That was amazing. You know what? Up here. Right here. Fist bump.

SPEAKER_04

Bang.

SPEAKER_03

That was amazing. Who good shots I played, see? The longer the game goes, I get better. Incredible. And that's my most unfavourite club. Yeah, you walking? Patrick. That's what Patrick's worst shot after Hallie Hine Hall. Like, mate, put a mark on top of L's club. This is no, that's L'Club already had a hit few scratches, but nothing serious. It's great he gave that to me though. And I've just shanked it. Wow, now it's just going downhill. Well, it's getting dark. Did you? Yep. Alright, so now you got now you got in the bunker with buzz. It's uh quick fire questions. It's not you don't think about those. Yep. You just fucking say the answer. Here we go. Best goal for a Tanzlaw. Um Nick Steadman, worst dressed. Stephen Lane. He's got a shirt out. I think you should now get a couple of sizes bigger. Isn't that what you're saying? Yeah, I know. I don't hate him or anything. I just think um Stevie's a good guy. He's a good guy. I just think uh a few countless sizing pants would be great. It's nothing personal. Oh, that's a cracker. Biggest pest. Biggest pest. That's a I probably shouldn't say. Don't say it. Biggest pest? Probably Ian. He always eats me, eats Bailey's food. But he's a pest. He's a food taster. He's a food taster. Who would be your dream four ball team at this club? Oh. All right. I didn't even know that question was there. So we got dream four ball team. We're obviously gonna go become players. We're gonna have um Nick on the team. So Nick Sedman. Luke on Luke Morrissey? Lukey Luke. No, it's Luke. Oh, he's not even at this club. No, it's gotta be Tansville. It has to be Tanzville. We'll have Day on there for a bit of comedy. Can't this is your best. Yeah. I mean, no, that's we've got to be fun somehow. We've got to have Day. Who else do we have? And Sharon Lovegrove, because she's just been the nicest to me ever. There you go, Shazza. If you listen to the podcast, you just gotta mention there too. That's his that's his gold class. Oops, where I hit here. There it is. Roll it down. Gold class four ball. Umbrate feed after golf. One of Kylie's handmade languages. They are blue with pickle things. They are amazing. And the Italian, that's the best. Oh yeah. It's better than Subway. Awesome. It's better. Really good. Stop. I did. There you go. Kylie, you've he's given everyone a mention here, this kid. Known to man. Biggest life lesson already. These are short answers. Don't give up on your dreams. Well, bang. Take that. Most underrated golfer. Underrated golfer. Cody Webster, one of the juniors. He's incredible and he's only playing off an 18 handicap and he's almost winning everything. Really? Is he a burglar? I think so. Like James. Ha ha! Ah well. Tough as hole. 18? Nah, just hip the green, I did. Not for me. I'll have to. From the blue tees, if we're playing a comp 18 is ooh, hard, hard hole. Wang. Hole eight's up there as well. I hate hole eight. There's so many bunkers. Like and they just had to put another one in. Wait till this course gets his bunkers back. Everyone's handicap's gonna go. Fucking pear shade out of air troll. It's a bloody question, this one, but you'll answer right one thing young blokes need more of. Um like at this club or it's a podcast. Do I say women or is that not a blind fool? That's what I know. So I always gonna I would do these actions. Yeah, women, it's all right. Okay. Good women. Oh, here we go. And I've got you on the la- Yeah, who's your hero in life? Let's go now. You can tell me. Who's my hero? Grow up halfway through the plot. My hero in life is my nana. Because she's been there every step of the way and she supported me and all my brothers. There you go, Nana. If you listen to the podcast, which I reckon you'll listen to this one, what one are we going home on? Do you reckon what hole are we gonna push in on to get back? Um nine? Or is that them going that's them going to nine now? We just go one more that way. Yeah, we'll go one more. It's gonna be look for the falls soon. Nana, she's a hero. She's my hero. But here all heroes don't wear capes, eh? And that's the one person that's probably kept the joint together, would you say? I think so. So I still got a few more quick fire questions there, all done. Here we go. What sort of man do you want to become? A respectful one. Beautiful. I like the short answers. You know, there's a question there, what cycle are you trying to break, but you're not? I thought it might be a question for you. Cycle with your upbringing that it's not really, is there? Nothing really bad about my life at all. No, you got shit together. Don't click. I don't have that got in there. Ai, Frank, put that one in. When I shit hit the fan, I'll replace the fan. I don't know how to word that, but that's a good one. I haven't heard that before. Shit replaced the fan. Did you see it? Please carry the bunker. That's a great shot if it is. So you're referring to the statement, shit hits the fan. Yeah. But you're going, I love it. That's fine. That's a good good saying. Might have to keep that in the book because I just made it up then. Yeah. Yeah. What would you say? What would you say to your younger self? You're not that old, but is there anything you ask to my younger self? Like, what age were we talking about? Maybe when you were eight or nine, I don't know. If you got where you wanted to be, what what you said to yourself? Oh I would have said there's always light at the end of the tunnel. Just keep turning up. Keep turning up. I like it. It's got you through. What would you say to kids growing up doing it tough like you were? Same thing, I suppose. Yeah, exactly. Light it down the tunnel, keep pushing through. You're gonna get through it. There's better days ahead, eh? Exactly. Yes, a lot of people get at me for using the term hero and why I've called it hero, and I haven't called it That's not my ball. In it? Yeah. See, oh you're in the bunker.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You I haven't called it who is your hero because I believed in capes and movie stars. Yeah, yeah. Because the whole objective is I want you to grow up and be your own hero. Yeah, yeah. And you need heroes to get you to there. But if everyone was their own hero and loved themselves and proud of what they do, I think the world would be a better place. So that's the question is what what's your perception of a hero? I probably gave you the answer. Perception of a hero is put up on. Well, you when you say you're nana, so it's probably easy to work out. Well, it's just someone who respects others, someone who looks out for others, someone who's there for others, someone who's respectful, there, and is always looking out. Alan Lovegrove said on his podcast his hero is the ambos and nurses and doctors and all those sort of things. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Rotary and volunteers. They really make it special. Yeah. Well, legend, that wraps up another round of golf cart chronicle. And I'll tell you what, if young folks like Patrick Murdoch are coming through the ranks, maybe the future is gonna be alright after all. This kid's got perspective. Respect a bloody big heart, and something a lot of adults will struggle to find, still to win it. Perfect proof that your upbringing doesn't have to define your destination. You can come through it half a time, fairly break down, confusion pressure, and still choose to become a good human being. And that's what today for me most of that. Not a golf, it's not a handicap, it's not a body capter. The character. The way he talks about his mom. Mike. I wanted to help younger kids feel like they belong. That stuff really matters. Because blocking side playable. Conversation cyber. Community cyber. Except the cyber. And maybe that's why this game of golf can be so much bigger than golf itself. Messy thank you to Patrick for jumping in the cart and sharing your story. It takes a lot of guys. And legends this episode with you. Some younger fellows. Some younger girls. Because you never know who might need to hear it. And remember, tell your heroes with my mania before the eulogy. This is but another hero production. I'm Buzz. Much love, Legends. Hero up. And remember to study one more dice.
