How will I know when it is the right time to quit?
Hey guys, welcome or welcome back to the Girl Got Golves podcast. I'm your host, Nadia Price, and I'm going to try and make this episode a little short and sweet with a good message. So, for today's topic, we're gonna be talking about knowing when to quit. I don't even know if I'm qualified enough to talk about this, to be honest, because I don't know when to quit sometimes. I genuinely sometimes persevere a little too much, some would say, and actually end up hurting myself more than if I just quit and took a different route. And that's so scary. But hopefully talking through with you guys will help me. And when I have that next stage where I'm thinking if I want to quit something, I can look back on this video and I hope and I'm hoping the same for you guys. So let's start off with how quitting is defined. Quitting is defined as leaving a place permanently or semi-permanently. And when I read this, because I did a little Google search, you know, when I read this, I was like, what does a place mean? Does it mean is it talking about a physical place? Is it talking about an emotional place? Is it talking about a stage of my life? Well, like, what is this place, you know? And you you have to figure that out. Like, that is up to you. It is up to your own life, your the whatever season you're in. You can define that. It's almost like a fill in the blank. So when I read that, I was really confused because I always had the thought that quitting was perceived as a losing battle weakness, just not very good. And that definition didn't sound like quitting was all that bad. I mean, it didn't sound like it would make me weaker, it didn't sound like it would make me feel like a loser. But that's what we feed ourselves and tell ourselves that if we quit something and put ourselves through hell and back just to be able to say we didn't quit because we don't want to sound like that, like a weak person, a loser, you know? And but honestly, is it worth it? Is it worth it to put yourself through hell and back just to say that you didn't give up? I don't think so. I don't think so. And even if you end up winning something, you know, let's say you persevered through, I don't know, a sport and you end up being the MVP at the end of the season, even though you didn't really like the training and you had to fight yourself to get up every morning. Is it worth it being a winner? Is that a winner? Like, am I a winner? I wouldn't consider myself one if I had to go through all that and really hate my life just to call myself a winner and it didn't even satisfy me for more than a week. Yeah, that's the kind of things you need to think about. Kind of scary. I think that an antonym of losing and weakness is growth and comfort in yourself, and that's what I think quitting can be sometimes. I mean, obviously, there is different scenarios, but to me, if you are quitting something because you are genuinely struggling, you are on a struggle bus, and you do not think you can do it, you are fighting every day, it's not worth it, and it doesn't really help what your outcome of life that much, and you're you m you just say, I can't do this anymore, I have to quit. I think that shows so much comfort in yourself, so much confidence. It shows that you are willing to grow, it shows that you're not scared of change. That is so that is good, and then that's when quitting would be perceived as something good, and yeah, I think it's all about perspective and your life, honestly. I also think that choosing to quit is better than trying to fit in, and it's better than trying to fit into something that doesn't align with you or where you're at at the moment. And by here's something that kind of helped me understand what changing yourself to fit in was really like. If you think about it this way, okay, you have a plate, think of a little dish plate, and you have this vase or cup, you try and fit the plate in the cup, it's not gonna fit, right? It's not going into the cup, it's not going to the vase, whatever. But then if you break the plate into little tiny shards, it then fits into the cup or the vase. But it's broken, it's not the same anymore. It's not a plate, it has no meaning, it has no use. It is just broken pieces of glass in a cup or a vase, you know. And that's what you're doing to yourself to fit into these places that you just aren't meant to fit into, and that is okay. That is totally okay, and sometimes that's what the fear of quitting and not knowing when to quit can backfire and bite you in the butt. So you have to think about the stage of life you're in at the moment if you're struggling with some wanting to quit or something, and pick an end goal. It can be a very vague end goal, and you don't have to have it all figured out, no one has it all figured out all the time. But just have somewhat of an end goal of what you want out of your life and think if I don't if I quit what I'm debating on quitting, you know, will this help me get to my end goal faster? Or will it make me do all this struggling just to get to not even a better place than I was before, you know? Or does persevering for this little season of life help me so much in my end goal and I can be so ahead if I just stick through it and don't quit, I will be ahead of the game and make it to what I want out of life. You know, you have to think about that, and it's really hard, but I know you can do it. And overall, I mean knowing when to quit is so hard, and it really just leads up to following your heart. I know that's so cliche to say, and you kinda like hear it in the Disney movies like follow your heart. And I don't know, I think that that's obviously talking about just following your gut and what you want and what you know, and it just r leads up to again really thinking about what you're trying to accomplish in life and if quitting it will match with your end goal or not. And also, I don't don't quit something you think about every day, and consistently it's on your mind as a goal. If you are thinking about it every day and you want to be in that place, you're like, I want to be in the Olympics, or I want to be that doctor, and you think about it every single day, living something every single day, do not give up on that. You cannot give up on your big, big dreams just because you think you can't do it. Because I know that everybody has the ability to do whatever they want to do out of life, okay? And another thing is don't let people try and say, Oh, you gotta be realistic, that's never gonna happen, whatever. Cause they're just trying to confide you into their small box and small potential that they think that they have, and it shows that they are so insecure in themselves that they don't think that they can accomplish what they want to do. So they're trying to make you not accomplish what you want to do. You know, don't live in the box, live outside of the box, and I mean, life is such a short period of time that you cannot waste it by having little expectations for yourself, okay? You need to show yourself that you know that you're worthy enough for these big dreams and big goals. And okay, one last thing, this just came to my mind, but I don't know if all of you guys have heard the phase quit while you're ahead. I don't I don't like that phase like phrase, okay? I think it's kind of dumb, I'm gonna be honest. But I think that quit while you're ahead, you're not allowing yourself to make mistakes because what if you quit and then there's so so much more left in store that you could have had if you didn't quit and went through a little rocky patch, and then you would have gone up the hill to find a beautiful hill of flowers. And another um a little way to think about it is I kind of saw this photo on TikTok, but it's this guy, he's like a gold miner, yeah, gold miner, and he's like mining to find this gold, these diamonds, and he's going through the tunnel, and then he comes to the tunnel where it's kind of like a little sliver of tunnel left, you know, so he can't see the diamonds, but on the other side is a just amazing amount of diamonds. There's so many diamonds, and he thinks he's never gonna find the diamonds, so he turns around and gives up when he was just one hit away from finding all the diamonds, you know. And so it's like, what if you just stayed for that little part and then you found the diamonds, like you know? So, yeah, that was just like something on my mind that I also want to say while I was talking about quitting. I'm gonna leave with this last bit. Overall, quitting something doesn't make you any less strong, any less capable. It makes you even stronger for knowing your limits and trusting in yourself to get to where you want to go. Think about that. Quitting something doesn't make you any less strong, it makes you even stronger for knowing your limits and trusting in yourself to get you to where you want to go. So, yeah, I'm just gonna leave you with that. Thank you guys so so much for listening to this episode.
