chapter 4 is you see Paul, the spiritual father to Timothy, giving him advice on how to deal with life and how to deal with ministry. 00:00:49.119 --> 00:00:54.479 And he tells him when you go to Ephesus, Timothy, you'll deal with three important things. 00:00:54.719 --> 00:01:01.679 You'll deal with the spiritual realm, you'll deal with tradition and culture, and you'll deal with yourself. 00:01:02.159 --> 00:01:04.640 And that's the kind of the overview of this chapter. 00:01:04.799 --> 00:01:08.079 Paul is trying to prepare Timothy for what he's gonna face. 00:01:09.040 --> 00:01:16.000 See, everybody in this room is influenced by the spiritual realm. 00:01:16.640 --> 00:01:20.879 Whether you like it or not, the influence of us all. 00:01:21.599 --> 00:01:27.680 We are also influenced by culture and tradition, and we're influenced by ourselves. 00:01:28.480 --> 00:01:35.280 And it's up to us to make sure that we don't let the wrong influences dictate our lives. 00:01:35.599 --> 00:01:41.519 And so, Paul, as spiritual father, is telling Timothy, be ready for this because this is coming. 00:01:41.760 --> 00:01:48.879 And I just want to stop there and say that they're not good for you, but you didn't have that relationship, and then you have so you date them, and then you have to deal with the breakup, and then you have to deal with the trauma, and by the 00:03:47.759 Paul is telling Timothy, beware of these three things as a spiritual father, because when you go into Ephesus, this is what you'll deal with. 00:03:48.479 --> 00:03:52.879 So let's read the first five verses in 1 Timothy chapter 4. 00:03:53.599 --> 00:04:18.879 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience feared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 00:04:19.120 --> 00:04:29.920 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 00:04:30.720 --> 00:04:36.720 So, in this first point, we have to beware of demonic influences. 00:04:38.560 --> 00:04:45.199 And I'm not gonna go into the spiritual realm. 00:05:02.720 --> 00:05:19.439 Whether you are Christian or a Christian, whether you're black or white, whether you live under a rock or in the most expensive house in the world, you are influenced by the spiritual realm every single day. 00:05:19.759 --> 00:05:26.720 And you have the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of heaven battling, trying to find out who will influence this person. 00:05:27.120 --> 00:05:31.199 You have deceiving spirits, you have the Holy Spirit. 00:05:31.439 --> 00:05:37.519 So in 1 John, you see a church father talking to his children in the faith. 00:05:38.480 --> 00:05:43.120 Listen in 1 John 4, chapter 1, I mean chapter 4, verse 1 and 3. 00:05:43.360 --> 00:05:49.040 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirit whether they are of God. 00:05:49.199 --> 00:05:52.399 Because many false prophets have gone into the world. 00:05:52.560 --> 00:05:55.199 By this you know the spirit of God. 00:05:55.519 --> 00:06:00.560 Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God. 00:06:00.800 --> 00:06:06.240 And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus has come in the flesh is not of God. 00:06:06.639 --> 00:06:15.439 And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming and now already is in the world. 00:06:16.079 --> 00:06:36.800 We should test these spirits because you have deceiving spirits, you have the spirit of the Antichrist, and many other familiar spirits, many other demonic spirits trying to vie for your attention, trying to influence you, trying to mimic what God might look like so He can fool and deceive you. 00:06:37.439 --> 00:06:40.639 We have to test all these things with the Bible. 00:06:41.120 --> 00:06:45.920 See, for us today, the main spirit that we battle is the spirit of the Antichrist. 00:06:46.399 --> 00:06:54.879 And I believe this is a spirit behind this whole deconstruction of the faith movement that is leading so many young people away. 00:06:56.000 --> 00:07:02.480 I believe the spirit of Antichrist is what is gonna lead this great falling away of the faith that we just read. 00:07:03.120 --> 00:07:05.600 It's after every believer. 00:07:06.639 --> 00:07:09.680 Because we are in this room, we are all the threat. 00:07:09.920 --> 00:07:13.360 The devil doesn't really care about non-believers because he got them. 00:07:14.079 --> 00:07:16.160 You are the one he really wants. 00:07:16.480 --> 00:07:25.600 Because the more you, every day that you're a Christian, a believing, a Bible-believing Christian, you are bringing the kingdom of heaven in everywhere you go. 00:07:25.920 --> 00:07:27.759 So you are the threat. 00:07:28.480 --> 00:07:46.399 Because this letter is written to a Christian going to Christians, and is telling them, these deceiving spirits, they're coming to influence you and to influence your people, and everybody has to be on guard. 00:07:47.839 --> 00:07:54.160 Look at verse 2, and I'm gonna read this in two different translations: the Complete Jewish Bible and the NLT. 00:07:55.360 --> 00:07:56.399 This is verse 2. 00:07:56.560 --> 00:08:05.439 Such teachings come from the hypocrisy of liars whose own conscience has been burned as if with a red-hot branding iron. 00:08:05.759 --> 00:08:12.639 And then the NLT says, These people are hypocrites and liars, and their conscience is dead. 00:08:13.279 --> 00:08:15.279 Why are their conscience dead? 00:08:15.519 --> 00:08:17.439 Because they believe in the wrong thing. 00:08:17.680 --> 00:08:30.720 You see, when you read the conscience is dead, or when you read in the New King James when it says that the conscience has been seared, we instantly jump to like the big negative things. 00:08:30.959 --> 00:08:33.360 But what you don't realize, this is a journey. 00:08:33.519 --> 00:08:35.519 Your conscience being dead is a journey. 00:08:35.840 --> 00:08:44.159 It starts out by you believing a simple little lie that is not, and it might sound truthful, but it's not truthful. 00:08:44.879 --> 00:09:00.399 And then when you believe that every single day for the rest of your life, if you don't deal with that lie, that deceiving spirit is compounding it until it gets you to a place where your conscience is completely seared, and you can't even see the truth. 00:09:01.200 --> 00:09:04.879 Everything starts off small and turns into a big thing. 00:09:05.519 --> 00:09:07.519 This is why we have to be on guard. 00:09:07.679 --> 00:09:13.039 This is why Paul is saying, Beware, Timothy, this is there, and you have to deal with this. 00:09:13.919 --> 00:09:16.000 We all have to deal with this. 00:09:16.639 --> 00:09:20.080 We have to be on guard spiritually, guard our minds. 00:09:20.320 --> And what the goal is that that lie or that truth will be planted into your heart because out of your heart flows the issues of life. 00:09:38.000 --> 00:09:39.919 So this is why it's important for 00:09:55.600 Not just day or night, because there's an increase of darkness in this world. 00:09:56.000 --> 00:10:02.960 And if you're not careful to be guarded in the word, these deceiving spirits will come in and lie to you. 00:10:03.759 --> 00:10:08.399 Let's look at the fruit of the deceiving spirits. 00:10:08.480 --> 00:10:16.000 Because what they want to do, though these deceiving spirits want to come and give you a whole worldview of how to look at life. 00:10:16.240 --> 00:10:16.960 That's the goal. 00:10:17.039 --> 00:10:21.200 Because once your worldview has been shaped, then the rest is formality. 00:10:21.440 --> 00:10:24.960 I don't have to force you to do something, I just have to make you believe something. 00:10:25.440 --> 00:10:28.320 Once you believe it, I can go rest. 00:10:30.000 --> 00:10:34.240 Now, see what once this deceiving spirits have come in and they've made them believe. 00:10:34.320 --> 00:10:36.080 Look at verse 3 and 4. 00:10:36.320 --> 00:10:46.320 For this is what they do: they forbid you to marry, they command you to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 00:10:46.559 --> He knows the scriptures. 00:11:13.600 --> 00:11:14.480 This is what God is saying. 00:11:14.559 --> 00:11:17.200 Okay, now how can I convince him to do the opposite? 00:11:18.320 --> 00:11:20.159 Like forbidding to marry. 00:11:20.960 --> 00:11:22.799 God bless marriage. 00:11:23.120 --> 00:11:24.720 So, what does the devil do? 00:11:25.039 --> 00:11:27.519 We gotta convince him not to get married. 00:11:28.720 --> 00:11:33.200 We have to come up with this sophisticated, and actually, good lies are not very sophisticated. 00:11:33.279 --> 00:11:35.440 I don't know this, I've just this is what five. 00:12:08.639 --> 00:12:18.000 For if it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer, we have to be sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 00:12:18.639 --> 00:12:42.080 You have to get in the scriptures, and I'm not saying you have to be a theologian knowing Greek and Hebrew, just to be just know the scriptures, spend time with the scriptures, and what happens is the as you're faithful in studying the scriptures, you have God Holy Spirit to come in and back you and reveal things to you and open your understanding to see the lies. 00:12:43.120 --> 00:12:53.840 Because the lie at the the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness, keeping yourself spiritually fit. 00:17:42.480 --> 00:17:49.440 See, our churches today, we have let culture influences instead of us gifts, we are actually saving our souls because that requires you to renew your mind, to see yourself as God sees you, to see yourself as an emissary of the kingdom of God. 00:36:50.800 -->
