Philippians chapter 2, and we're going to look at leverage number seven. 00:01:55.519 --> 00:02:13.520 Therefore, if there's any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the of divisiveness that are hitting the Philippian church. 00:03:37.759 --> 00:03:54.800 One is from without, and that is persecution from the Jews, and even some from the Romans because of the province there in Philippi, and it was such a popular place for ex-Roman soldiers to go. 00:03:54.960 --> 00:04:02.960 It was populated with many men and women who considered this kind of like the second home away from Rome. 00:04:03.039 --> 00:04:04.960 So it was called the Little Rome. 00:04:05.120 --> 00:04:08.960 So there's persecution to this new faith coming from without. 00:04:09.039 --> 00:04:10.719 And chapter 3 covers this more. 00:04:10.800 --> 00:04:11.919 We'll get to that. 00:04:12.159 --> 00:04:20.160 But there was also some division within, and in chapter 4 it talks about two 00:08:46.799 Joy leverage number 7 is the joy of selfless living. 00:08:47.039 --> 00:08:58.240 In the 16th century, the Renaissance astronomer Nicholas Copernicus challenged the belief that the earth was the center of the universe. 00:08:58.559 --> 00:09:06.720 Copernicus argued that the sun didn't revolve around the earth, but that the earth revolved around the sun. 00:09:07.360 --> 00:09:16.879 The Copernicus revolution turned the scientific world upside down by turning the universe inside out. 00:09:17.440 --> 00:09:26.960 In the same way, each one of you need a spiritual Copernicus Plant, PhD professor of Santa Clara University, an adjunct clinical professor of psychiatry at Stanford University, found that people who serve others at least two hours per week over many years reduced mortality by 40%. 00:15:50.879 --> 00:15:56.080 That people who served others handle stress better than those who didn't. 00:15:56.399 --> 00:16:01.360 Especially when you serve people less heightened sense of well-being might be the byproduct of being more physically active as a result of volunteering, or because it makes us more socially active. 00:16:36.639 --> 00:16:47.039 Even says that for the joy, Hebrews 12, 2, for the joy set before him, he endured the cross. 00:18:34.480 --> 00:18:43.039 He came with joy, and I was, when I was sharing with the guys yesterday at the retreat, I was saying, you know, you realize he was scourged? 00:18:43.839 --> 00:18:45.839 Jesus was scourged? 00:18:46.160 --> 00:19:13.359 Thirty-nine lashes with a cat of nine tails, that means nine leather straps coming off this stick, this post that the Roman soldier would carry that had metal slithers in it and stones that ripped the flesh that caught the back of Jesus in the top part of his neck, and then they just ripped it down his back. 00:19:14.240 --> 00:19:30.799 Most men going to crucifixion died because of the scourging alone, ripped down through the flesh and the outer areas of our skin down to the very organs being exposed. 00:19:30.960 --> 00:19:36.880 Ripped that way, and to such an extent that Jesus couldn't even carry the cross the entire way to Calvary.
