Romans 5.17. 00:01:34.400 --> 00:01:35.760 Let's look at that again. 00:01:35.920 --> 00:01:38.400 That's our theme for tonight. 00:01:38.719 --> 00:01:40.719 That's our theme for tomorrow night. chapter 5, I wish I could just take us through Romans in an hour, which I could, but I'm not going to do that tonight. 00:01:57.439 --> 00:02:08.000 But Romans 5 actually flows into Romans 6, 7, and 00:04:08.960 We're gonna be in the book of Daniel. 00:04:09.599 --> 00:04:19.759 Daniel, I believe, is kind of a type of warrior and worshiper that we are seeing God raise up in the latter days. 00:04:20.000 --> 00:04:28.879 And, you know, this Saturday night, we covered it just a little bit, beginning last Saturday night, but this Saturday night we're talking about your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. 00:04:29.040 --> 00:04:41.199 And I mentioned to you the fact that I believe God's doing something with children in our time that is unique in the history of the church. 00:04:41.439 --> 00:04:46.240 It's unique in the last days, because we've been in the last days for 2,000 years. 00:04:46.399 --> 00:05:07.360 So in the last days of the last days, God prophesied through Joel, which is what we're in, book of Joel, but that's what Peter chose to speak from in the sermon at Pentecost, as he said, in these last days, as it was prophesied, your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. 00:05:07.600 --> 00:05:18.160 And so we're gonna talk more about that on Saturday, what that means, but part of that, I believe, is a work of the Spirit in young people. 00:05:19.040 --> 00:05:20.639 And Daniel is a type. 00:05:20.800 --> 00:05:34.079 Daniel is probably a teenager, very, I mean, there's no way to know his age, but somewhere between 13 and probably 18, the commentations of the Bible say about the book of Daniel. 00:05:35.360 --> 00:05:36.639 But he's really unique. 00:05:36.800 --> 00:05:45.199 I mean, Daniel is one of the most unique guys in the Bible because he just he just finishes well. 00:05:45.519 --> 00:05:48.240 He starts well and he finishes well. 00:05:48.560 --> 00:05:55.120 And in this case, what we're gonna read first is when he's a teenager, he's just a young guy. 00:05:55.279 --> 00:05:56.720 And look at verse 20. 00:05:56.879 --> 00:06:22.639 So Daniel 1, 20, and it says, in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, and he's speaking of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and Daniel, his buddies, he found them, so not just Daniel, but he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his rim. 00:06:23.279 --> 00:06:25.839 Ten times better? 00:06:26.079 --> 00:06:26.959 Are you kidding me? 00:06:27.120 --> 00:06:29.199 Here's the circumstances for Daniel. 00:06:29.439 --> 00:06:31.439 Daniel's a refugee. 00:06:32.720 --> 00:06:39.600 Possibly even his parents might have been killed by the Persians. 00:06:39.920 --> 00:06:52.319 And so he's in a refugee camp, and they did some kind of a test there, and they chose him and his three other buddies, and they said, These guys have the IQ for the next test. 00:06:52.560 --> 00:06:58.240 We're looking for kind of an elite group of young men to be in the palace. 00:06:58.399 --> 00:07:00.240 So he's a refugee. 00:07:01.120 --> 00:07:03.600 He comes out of a refugee camp. 00:07:03.839 --> 00:07:07.120 He's brought into a beautiful setting, a beautiful palace. 00:07:07.199 --> 00:07:16.560 I mean, it's hard to imagine today how incredibly influential, powerful, and mighty the Babylonian Empire was. 00:07:16.720 --> 00:07:19.519 It is way more than the United States of America today. 00:07:19.680 --> 00:07:24.079 You talk about a power nation, Babylon. 00:07:24.160 --> 00:07:25.600 There's no one like Babylon at that time. 00:07:25.680 --> 00:07:29.439 It'd say that all the known world at that time was ruled by Babylon. 00:07:29.519 --> 00:07:36.959 And so Nebuchadnezzar and Darius and Cyrus, I mean, these guys control the whole known world at times. 00:07:37.120 --> 00:07:53.680 So, in that setting, Daniel comes in, and we're going to look back at what he did, which is really bizarre to do what he did, but it's going to set him up, and now he's here in a position where it says he's ten times better. 00:07:53.839 --> 00:08:01.839 Now, turn to Daniel 5, and I want to look at a few years later, a number of years later, what's said about him. 00:08:02.000 --> 00:08:08.560 So he is in the administration of Nebuchadnezzar. 00:08:08.959 --> 00:08:21.199 He becomes like a governor with Nebuchadnezzar, and then Nebuchadnezzar's son becomes a ruler, and he continues to have high positions with Darius. 00:08:22.240 --> 00:08:29.519 And then there is a prophetic word given, and none of the magicians and astrologers can figure it out. 00:08:29.920 --> 00:08:43.360 And so the queen, that's the queen, the wife of Nebuchadnezzar, that would be Darius' grandmother, says, Hey, there's this guy who can answer this riddle. 00:08:43.679 --> 00:08:53.679 So in Daniel chapter 5, verse 10, the queen, because of the words of the king and his lords, in other words, they don't know what to do, came to the banquet hall. 00:08:53.840 --> 00:08:56.159 The queen spoke, saying, O king, live forever. 00:08:56.320 --> 00:09:00.159 Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance change. 00:09:00.320 --> 00:09:01.200 Verse 11. 00:09:01.360 --> 00:09:06.159 There is a man in your kingdom whom is the Spirit of the Holy God. 00:09:06.320 --> 00:09:19.120 And in the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him, and King Nebuchadnezzar, your father, your father the king, made him chief of the magician. 00:09:19.200 --> 00:09:21.039 I said that wrong, so this is his mom. 00:09:21.279 --> 00:09:24.399 Astrologers, Chaldeans, and Soothsayers, verse 12. 00:09:24.559 --> 00:09:28.159 Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, you ought to underline that. 00:09:28.480 --> 00:09:41.120 An excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas, were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belshazzar. 00:09:41.600 --> 00:09:47.200 Now Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation. 00:09:48.399 --> 00:09:50.480 Okay, it pleased Darius. 00:09:51.279 --> 00:09:53.600 So go to Daniel chapter 6, verse 1. 00:09:53.759 --> 00:09:59.759 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom 120 satraps to be over the whole kingdom, verse 2. 00:09:59.919 --> 00:10:09.279 And over these three governors, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that the king would suffer no loss. 00:10:09.519 --> 00:10:17.200 Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps because of an excellent spirit. 00:10:17.279 --> 00:10:21.039 Again, that's the description of Daniel that was in him. 00:10:21.200 --> 00:10:24.879 And the king gave thought to setting him over the whole rim. 00:10:25.440 --> 00:10:25.759 Okay? 00:10:26.320 --> 00:10:27.919 Setting him over the whole rim. 00:10:28.159 --> 00:10:32.080 Verse 8, but Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not. 00:10:32.240 --> 00:10:33.840 Oh, excuse me, I'm I skipped ahead. 00:10:34.000 --> 00:10:40.879 Alright, the Aramaic for an excellent spirit is Yatir, which means extraordinary. 00:10:41.039 --> 00:10:46.799 So I'm using extraordinary spirit because I like this idea of extraordinary exceedingly. 00:10:47.120 --> 00:11:03.440 Daniel in his life, and we're going to talk about what he did to purpose in his life, is pursuing God in a way that is transformational in his spirit. 00:11:03.679 --> 00:11:08.080 And this is before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. 00:11:08.240 --> 00:11:10.080 I mean, this is Old Testament. 00:11:10.559 --> 00:11:21.679 So he has an extraordinary and extraordinary spirit with Yahweh, the one God, without the release of the Holy Spirit, as we will know it in the latter days. 00:11:21.840 --> 00:11:25.519 And so there's an excellent spirit within him. 00:11:26.960 --> It's considered one of the great ads of all time, actually. 00:11:37.120 --> 00:11:40.799 It's by Apple, and it came out in 1997. 00:11:40.960 --> 00:11:50.480 To give a context for this, Steve Jobs was fired from Apple, and then he's just come back. 00:11:50.639 --> 00:12:10.799 So the reason he came back is because they wanted the operating system of Next, which he had started when he was doing Pixar, Pixar and Next, and he's invited back in to Apple, and then after eight weeks of trying to figure out what is Apple, what what do we believe in, what are we all about, they come up with this ad. 00:12:10.879 --> 00:12:16.799 And I just think it's perfect for an extraordinary spirit and what God wants to do in the latter days. 00:12:16.960 --> 00:12:20.240 So watch this and may it minister to you. 00:12:27.759 --> 00:12:35.279 The misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs and the square holes. 00:12:36.320 --> 00:12:37.679 One season. 00:13:23.519 --> 00:13:27.360 And you know, I whatever you think about the people he uses in that. 00:13:27.519 --> 00:13:34.320 The reality is, here we talk, we're talking about people who don't even know the Lord, who have an extraordinary spirit. 00:13:34.480 --> 00:13:35.440 And we know the Lord. 00:13:35.600 --> 00:13:46.480 We have the Spirit of God, and how much more so can God do stuff through you guys, through the power of the Spirit, working in the Spirit, through innovation and the imagination of the Spirit? 00:13:46.639 --> 00:13:52.000 Well, Daniel epitomizes that, even as a young man. 00:13:52.399 --> 00:13:57.360 So go back to Daniel chapter 1 and let's look at just one part. 00:13:57.519 --> 00:13:59.200 There's so much we could say here. 00:13:59.360 --> 00:14:17.919 But there's this one little part in Daniel chapter 1 that I just really get animated about every time I read it, because I think it's the key to the beginnings of an extraordinary spirit in doing great things through the Lord, working in your life. 00:14:18.159 --> 00:14:20.720 So start at the very beginning to give the context. 00:14:20.960 --> 00:14:25.600 Again, he's a refugee, he's been brought out of a refugee camp, and he's now in the palace. 00:14:25.840 --> 00:14:33.279 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem and besieged it. 00:14:33.360 --> 00:14:46.320 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, king of Judah, into his hand, and some of the articles of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shannar to the house of his God, and he brought the articles into the treasure house of this God. 00:14:46.559 --> 00:15:10.879 Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king's descendants and some of the nobles, young men, in whom there was no blemish, but good looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans. 00:15:11.120 --> 00:15:22.399 And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king's delicacies of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so at the end of that time they might serve before the king. 00:15:22.639 --> 00:15:24.159 Now look at verse 8. 00:15:24.559 --> 00:15:35.440 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with a portion of the king's delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. 00:15:35.759 --> 00:15:44.559 So evidently there was unclean food involved with the delicacies coming from the king. 00:15:44.879 --> 00:15:53.759 There was food that he was to eat from that went against his conscience because it might have been dedicated to idols at that time. 00:15:54.000 --> 00:15:54.879 Can you imagine? 00:15:54.960 --> 00:15:57.039 No, let's just put the context here. 00:15:57.279 --> 00:16:20.080 This, the only way I can describe it is that you've gotten a promotion to work at some large company, and you're now going to get paid millions of dollars in salary, and then soon after you're invited in, during the training process, they begin to ask you to do stuff that goes against your conscience. 00:16:20.240 --> 00:16:22.720 And you're 17 years old. 00:16:24.000 --> 00:16:26.159 You're 16 years old. 00:16:26.480 --> 00:16:30.480 And you just came from a flipping refugee camp. 00:16:30.960 --> 00:16:31.279 Okay? 00:16:31.759 --> 00:16:33.440 So you have nothing. 00:16:34.399 --> 00:16:36.480 And you know what refugee camps are like. 00:16:36.639 --> 00:16:41.519 Well, I can't imagine what it would be like to be under the Babylonians in their camps. 00:16:42.080 --> 00:16:43.600 He may be an orphan. 00:16:44.080 --> 00:16:54.000 Talk about the chance to be somebody and the chance to live with security and warmth and have all your needs met. 00:16:54.240 --> 00:16:56.559 Man, Daniel and have signed up with the military, either the Navy or the Army, and they're gonna be either Navy SEALs or they're gonna be special forces. 00:19:50.400 --> 00:19:51.519 That's what they sign up for. 00:21:02.720 You know, I want to go, and you know, I like David in the Bible because he was just so average. 00:21:03.839 --> 00:21:06.799 And so, men and women, that's not what we signed up for. --> 00:21:31.599 So turn to 1 Corinthians chapter 2. 00:21:32.559 --> 00:21:41.200 1 Corinthians chapter 2 is one of those awesome chapters in the Bible that deal with our spirit and God's spirit. I'll just say this I am not just talking about like it's your job from the perspective. 00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:17.759 Perspective of being successful, I'm talking about an excellent spirit, an extraordinary character that translates into hearing from God and being extraordinary in what God's called you to do. 00:22:17.839 --> 00:22:36.640 Because here's what 1 Corinthians 2 9 says, Paul writing, but as it is written, I has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love him. 00:22:38.079 --> 00:22:43.920 So men and
