Hebrew people of the Old Testament to those of us that are here in this room in the year 2015. 00:00:59.840 --> 00:01:04.480 And I propose to show you that there's not a whole lot of difference. very religious, but they've never experienced a born-again experience. 00:01:24.400 --> 00:01:36.079 Our churches are filled with people that go to church, pay their tithes, some of them teach Sunday school class, some of them pastor those churches. 00:01:36.480 --> 00:01:41.359 I remember years ago meeting a pastor. 00:01:41.760 --> 00:01:48.159 I was planting our first church up in Wyoming and was determined to meet the other pastors in the area. 00:01:48.239 --> 00:01:51.760 And I met this one particular pastor, I won't share the denomination. 00:01:52.000 --> 00:01:55.359 He had been the longest standing pastor in this community. 00:01:55.599 --> 00:02:00.959 And we just got to talking, and I was, I was a young Christian. 00:02:01.200 --> 00:02:03.359 I'd never been a part of a church plan. 00:02:03.439 --> 00:02:08.960 I'd never done anything this radical in my life, and I'm just excited to be a Christian. 00:02:09.039 --> 00:02:13.039 And I'm thinking everybody in ministry is excited to be a Christian. 00:02:13.280 --> 00:02:19.599 And so he and I are talking, and he begins to tell me how that he doesn't believe in the virgin birth. 00:02:19.840 --> 00:02:22.479 He doesn't believe in the authority of Scripture. 00:02:22.639 --> 00:02:32.319 He doesn't believe that Jesus Christ physically, bodily, rose from the dead, and I am sitting in his presence in absolute dismay. had a really nice house, drove a really nice car, had a much better suit than I had. 00:02:50.240 --> 00:02:51.680 It was a vocation. 00:02:51.919 --> 00:02:56.800 He could just have easily been a do love the Lord, but they still struggle with unresolved offenses, deep wounds, and emotional pain. 00:03:21.360 --> 00:03:40.400 The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6, verse 12, said, We are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of an unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in heavenly places. 00:03:40.879 --> 00:03:52.240 Whether you're saved or whether you are unsaved, we are all dealing, all living in a spiritually bankrupt and broken society. 00:03:53.120 --> 00:04:01.280 We are all dealing with demonic forces that are very, very real, that are determined to keep us bound. 00:04:02.719 --> 00:04:06.800 Just like the children of Israel in the book of Exodus. 00:04:07.520 --> 00:04:09.599 There were people there. 00:04:10.560 --> 00:04:18.720 They were all known as the people of God, but there were those that were followers of Yahweh, and there were those that were just born into a heritage. with those people today. 00:04:29.920 --> 00:04:36.240 So I want to show you that, again, the parallels between the people of Egypt and the people today. 00:04:36.480 --> 00:04:39.920 First of all, the Jewish people were in bondage to Pharaoh. 00:04:40.480 --> 00:04:41.360 That's a no-brainer. 00:04:41.519 --> 00:04:42.800 You know that, I know that. 00:04:42.959 --> 00:04:43.920 They were in bondage. 00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:49.839 And it's an interesting thing because when they first went down to Egypt, they had incredible favor. 00:04:49.920 --> 00:05:01.199 They were in Egypt at the invitation of Pharaoh because of the testimony and the position of Joseph, who had been sovereignly raised up for a very specific purpose. 00:05:01.439 --> 00:05:05.439 But then that king, that pharaoh died, new Pharaoh came up. 00:05:05.600 --> 00:05:08.319 He did not know, did not care. 00:05:08.560 --> 00:05:09.519 They said, you know what? 00:05:09.600 --> 00:05:11.759 We've got a lot of people here that could do us good. 00:05:11.920 --> 00:05:13.360 Let's enslave them all. 00:05:13.600 --> 00:05:18.079 Have them build our temples, build our pyramids, make our lives easier. 8, 34, Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 00:05:33.439 --> 00:05:40.720 Now you're probably thinking, I could have gone to the new movie that just came out, Fantastic Four or whatever it is. 00:05:41.759 --> 00:05:47.519 And here I am, and this guy is telling me that if I practice sin, I'm a slave to sin. 00:05:48.800 --> 00:05:49.759 You are. 00:05:50.639 --> 00:05:52.959 If you practice sin, you are a slave. 00:05:53.040 --> 00:05:59.759 You are as much a slave as the children of Israel who were in bondage and were slaves then. what used to what is used to be Coors Field, the old arena there. 00:06:58.319 --> 00:07:00.560 I mean, there's thousands of people. 00:07:00.879 --> 00:07:04.160 And I was attending a little Nazarene church. 00:07:04.399 --> 00:07:07.439 I was about as saved as this pulpit. 00:07:08.319 --> 00:07:10.720 But I've always loved music, any kind of music. 00:07:10.879 --> 00:07:11.680 I like music. 00:07:11.839 --> 00:07:14.399 And back then I could actually carry a tune. 00:07:14.560 --> 00:07:23.519 And so our church, our little church choir, decided to be part of a huge citywide mass choir for the Billy Graham Crusade. 00:07:23.759 --> 00:07:25.439 I was in that choir. 00:07:26.879 --> 00:07:39.920 I am in this huge choir of hundreds, hundreds of Christians from just about every denomination across the state of Colorado, and I am an absolute reprobate. 00:07:40.079 --> 00:07:46.639 I'm abusing drugs, alcohol, and people, and those are just the good things that I was doing. 00:07:47.360 --> 00:07:56.399 And so he brings this message, which was incredibly simple, pierced my heart, and he gives the altar call. 00:07:56.560 --> 00:08:06.800 Hundreds of people from all the stands, they are coming down by the thousands, filling up that field, and I'm looking around, and no one is going down from the choir. 00:08:07.600 --> 00:08:09.759 And I wasn't going to be the first. 00:08:10.720 --> 00:08:16.959 The conviction of the Holy Spirit was so heavy on me, I knew that I was a slave to sin. 00:08:17.199 --> 00:08:27.279 I knew that God wanted to set me free, but because of my pride and what other people might think of me leaving the choir, we're supposed to be saved. 00:08:27.519 --> 00:08:30.800 We're singing praises to God. 00:08:32.080 --> 00:08:36.639 And I 00:09:16.080 Not only were they in bondage, but they had harsh taskmasters who exploited the people of Israel for their own desires. 00:09:16.320 --> 00:09:18.639 I mean, they weren't just slaves. talked to a lady last week who wanted to, wanted prayer because there was a witch that was cursing her, and she'd lost two jobs and had five accidents. 00:14:06.480 --> 00:14:12.960 The man she was engaged to dumped her, kicked her to the curb, and other people that she knew who went through hard times. 00:14:13.120 --> 00:14:17.440 It was all the result of this one person who was praying against them. 00:14:18.320 --> 00:14:24.480 There was nothing that I could say that would dissuade her that bad things happen to good people. 00:14:25.039 --> 00:14:27.039 Bad things happen to good for their alcoholism, for their drug addiction, for their sexual addiction. 00:15:54.480 --> 00:15:56.559 I believe in all of those things. 00:15:56.720 --> 00:16:00.000 And all of those things are 00:16:13.440 And if they're really, really good, maybe they'll get you to second base. 00:16:14.000 --> 00:16:18.000 But they'll never get you all the way around the bases to home plate again. because of their taskmasters. 00:17:21.839 --> 00:17:26.480 I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the land of the Egyptians. 00:17:26.799 --> 00:17:29.519 Here's the --> 00:17:47.039 We cry out to God. 00:17:47.200 --> 00:17:49.680 Maybe we're fasting and praying. 00:17:49.920 --> 00:17:54.160 And we're crying out, God, please, you've got to move, you've got to do cries, the sacrifices that you've been making, I want you to know God has not turned a deaf ear toward you. 00:18:47.599 --> 00:18:48.880 He hears you. 00:18:49.200 --> 00:18:51.279 And he is going to It's the same thing today. 00:19:01.920 --> 00:19:03.440 Same thing today. 00:19:04.000 --> 00:19:11.440 There is a very real demonic force that is absolutely determined that he is going to keep you bound in chains. 00:19:12.000 --> 00:19:16.079 He is going to continue to rob, steal, and destroy. 00:19:16.240 --> 00:19:20.240 And you can cry out all you want, all you want, all day long. 00:19:20.319 --> 00:19:27.839 You can fast, you can get the church to fast, you can do all kinds of things, and that devil is determined to keep you bound. 00:19:28.079 --> 00:19:29.599 Here's the second truth. 00:19:29.759 --> 00:19:36.480 Not only has God heard your prayer, but God understands you can't do this without his strong hand. 00:19:37.119 --> 00:19:40.160 He understands the devil
