All right, welcome to another episode of Between the Coast. I'm your host, Fernando, with our stars Cassius and Jared. Today we will be covering the NBA finals, game one and two, followed by NFL News and our AFC East predictions. All right, let's get into it. Cassius, what were your thoughts for game one and two?

I mean, starting with game one, uh, the Knicks kind of did start off rough. Uh, they definitely had uh had to get kind of over the hump of just being a little rusty. They were off for, I think, nine days. Um, versus the Spurs literally played a couple days before that. Um, but as you saw, they got more into the offense. Um I mean, Jalen Brunson, 12 of 31 in the in the first game, um, but ended up with 30 points. Uh at the end of the day, like he he still did what he needed to do. Um, you know, Carl Anthony Towns, 18 points, 12 rebounds. Like they they pushed the echelon. They were down 14 in the fourth quarter, came back, um, and and just led the charge. Uh, it was a it was a great overall showing from them. Um, and I think it just shows you know what they've done all postseason, which is they never stopped playing their game, pushing the pace, uh, spreading the floor, and they are getting so much help from this bench. It is definitely seeming to be the outlier between the Spurs and the Knicks right now. Um, as for game two, uh I actually I want to hear Jared's first thoughts on game one.

So well, I mean, they definitely had to shake off the rust. That was number one. Um but they got it done. And I agree with everything you said. That bench is it's definitely given them a boost in what they're trying to uh achieve here. Um, I mean, Shamit off the bench has been crazy. Like that, like I was trying to think of who to shout out the most. It's Billy Shamet. He is hitting every three he throws up at the rim damn near.

So game one was Shamut for sure, 100%.

Yeah, and then Towns, I'm gonna just say this. Towns might be the Wemby stopper just a little bit, except in the second half of game two, but we'll talk about that. But I mean, he's got Wemby looking pretty human. So, I mean, and and of course Brunson, I mean, since he's come to New York, he's just been clutch non-stop in the fourth quarter. Like, he owns the fourth quarters. So, I mean, like Cassius said, ended up with what? He was 12 for 31, ended up with 30, but he hit the biggest shot of the game. He hit the dagger while being smothered.

So, yeah, yeah, and and and kind of just touching up on the Spurs from game one, like at the end of the day, like they are getting help, but not as much help from that bench. The only person on that bench is Dylan Harper. That kid is an animal as a rookie, like this kid is playing lights out beyond his years. Like, next year, I'm I'm honestly even more scared for the West just because him and Cass are gonna be more developed. Same with Wimby, like those three growing up with this team, that's gonna be scary. But um, Keldon Johnson, sixth man of the year, where the where are you? I'm sorry, did did you not win that award because of what you did in the regular season? Um you know, like I I don't see them doing this without him. Uh, you know, Victor had a had a a pretty similar game, 26 points, 12 rebounds, six of 21. But again, like in those moments, he hit a big three to kind of bring him back close, but then let it all slip away again. And to Jared's point, I think that Wimby is uh getting uh kind of outplayed by Kat a little and kind of moving into game two. Uh Kat had 17 points in the first half. How much did Wimby have, Jared?

Seven was shutting that man down. He took four shots. Uh and yeah, it was it was again another showing of then seeing how the only bench player for the Spurs, Dylan Harper, 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal. Keldon Johnson, sixth man of the year. 16 minutes, three points, four rebounds.

Well, they got Keldon Johnson, but they also got that Bryant kid who they just he fell out the rotation for no reason.

Three minutes. Right. You know why he fell out the rotation? The one, the three minutes he was in, he took the ball, drove it all the way down the court, trying to start a fast break, went into three defenders under the hole, and decided to try to pass out of that, where you had no perception of getting that ball to any player on the outside. I would have sat him too. I literally was like, what are you doing, Brian? Can't argue that. And then you look, he's a rookie also. Yeah. Looking at the day and night difference between him and Dylan Harper is crazy. Dylan Harper's dad prepared his son, Ron Harper, the five, Mr. Five Ron, five championships for his father. They are showing out for this kid. But at the end of the day, they fell short. Um, and you know, this time it wasn't uh Brunson. Brunson did have one clutch shot, still showing that clutch factor, but again, seven of 25. That's that's crazy. 20 points. Um, but everyone else really stepped up again. Landry Shamit, uh, three threes, 13 points, 30 minutes. Um, Miles McBride stepped up, and then everyone was talking about Mitchell Robinson and how much of a he inspired that team with his playing through the injury um and just trying to stick with them. But um it's a great series so far. I do think my stance has changed. I think the Knicks just look so much of a better team. And Wimby, unfortunately, is the one who gave that game away. Uh at the end of the day, you need to lock eyes with your point guard. Um, again, if I was Castle, I would have done the same thing. I'm running up the floor to get the best spot uh because Wimby always takes the ball up. He acts like he's a point guard, he's a point center, like take the ball up. So why am I going to be looking back for him? But also, again, another weird moment, at least in my opinion, where we're in the playoffs and a coach does not call a timeout when I think is a timeout situation with 12 seconds left in a tie game in the fourth quarter, where you get you guys the best opportunity to drop a real play.

See, I go back and forth with that because they had all momentum. They were riding high. Like, you you may not want to call a timeout in that in that uh moment. Like the game was tied. It was 104 all. The game was tied. You they have all momentum. If anything, let them get it, let them get their best shot. And if we in worst case scenario, we go to overtime. But I mean, I personally, though Wimby did make that big mistake down the stretch. Mitch Johnson. What what play was that at the end? You got a 7-5 center who plays like a point, can shoot the lights out, and even then, you let him settle for a jump shot on the elbow at the end of the a contested jump shot. Come on now.

Yeah, I I think that uh like that that clearly pick and roll switch off they did with De'Aaron Fox. For one, bring in someone bigger than Darren Fox uh for the for the pick and roll. And second, at the end of the day, I don't understand uh like I do understand the the the thought process. He's seven four to Jared's point, seven five. He should be able to shoot over anyone, but the main defender on him is seven feet, so it's not like it's going to be that big of a difference for him right now, especially them knowing that it's going to be Wimby taking the shot. In my opinion, I think it should have been either Harper or Darren Fox taking that last shot.

What? Oh no, no, no. You Wimby, Nando said it last night. Wimby could have done anything at the rim, and they probably would have called the foul.

You're right. They probably would have. But again, Wimby isn't playing like that all the time. And I'm not saying he, yes, he should have driven to the basket. It should have been him taking that last shot. But I'm saying, based off to your point, the momentum and how the game was going, Harper was getting anything he wanted in that hole. He was getting the most fouls of the game. Like he was finding any space he could. And honestly, like again, Darren Fox also. I don't know if his ankle, like, they gave him a little quick shot, but the way he was putting on the Jets and hitting them with the brakes and the hezzy moves, like for those three quarters, like he looked like he could get whatever he wanted. Like, it looked like classic Kings Darren Fox. And I was like, this is where where's this guy been? Because he was a non-factor in game one.

It did look like that. He honestly was the reason they went on that run. He started it. But I mean, at the end of the day, like you had said, the timeout was called, the defense was set, Kat was on Wemby, they had Mitchell Robinson in there. Josh Hart was probably, yeah, I would have to re-look at the uh the game, like re-watch the last play. But Josh Hart was probably on Harper. And I mean, Josh Hart, you know, Josh Hart will lock somebody up when the game's on the line, too.

Like I mean, he was he was magical in game one. I mean, for his stats, I think he is one of the only players. Yeah, in game one, he had 15 rebounds game high, uh, six assists, and four steals. He's the first player since Larry Bird to reach those numbers in a finals game. Um so, but again, you see night and day game two, got into foul trouble early, got the flagrant against him, only had zero points and only had 18 minutes, and they still figured it out. Cat had four points in the second half, yeah, and they still figured it out to come back. The Spurs went on a 14-2 run to come back, and the Knicks still figured out that that's where I'm like, I think my number has changed. Um because Jalen Brunson, even like I said, another terrible shooting game. But guess what? It's the finals. I don't care. Shoot a thousand times, dog. If you're my closer, guess what? Shooter's gonna shoot. Shoot the ball. I don't even care. Miss 50 shots. As long as you make the last one, that's all I care about. And speaking of our, according to Nando, our king of New York, he is now past Shay and Ty Luca for the most 30-point games in a playoff game for current players. So um, I I I do think my tune has changed. Uh, I think that we are now seeing not only the inexperience come into play for the Spurs, but also the outshining of the Knicks bench and their depth. I think they'll win two. The Spurs will, I don't think, I think they're not gonna go down without a fight. Um, but yeah, I think that the Knicks will cap this off in six.

If they lose, I just feel like if the Knicks win game three, I think he's right. Like the Spurs may get one, but it's gonna be over.

Yeah, I mean, my original thought was in seven, but I'm thinking in six. So, I mean, they they got good history on their side. The Knicks are the third team to take the first 2-0 lead in the finals on the road, uh, followed by the 1993 Chicago Bulls and the 1995 Houston Rockets, who both went on to win the finals. Uh, San Antonio on the flip side is the third team to lose the first two games at home in the NBA Finals. Uh, the other two teams were the 1993 Phoenix Suns, who lost in six, and the 1995 Orlando Magic, who got swept. So, and Shaq.

Both are NBA legends that unfortunately had to watch that. It must have been like a like a time capsule. They're like, look at this revolutionary star, and you just can't get it done yet. Brings back memories.

So, all right. Well, that is our take for the NBA finals as of now. Uh all right, so we will quickly go over latest NFL news, followed by our AFC East predictions. Uh, so last couple days, Christian Watson, a hundred and ten million dollar extension, uh, which was wild to me. Um I want to talk about Christian Watson.

Go ahead. Real. Real quick. 110? If this man does not have a breakout season, you know, honestly, if he's hurt for more than two games, take the contract away.

I mean, but that's really all it is, though. He hasn't had a thousand yards because he's been injured so often. But let's do why you want to give him 110? No, first off, fuck the Packers. That's number one. Number two, GBB. Like, man, fuck them. But number two, he is a big play receiver. I mean, his he gets in the end zone somehow, somehow. He had 300 yards for the season. He got 11 touchdowns. Don't make sense. But and that's just an example, a dramatic example. But realistically speaking, you got 600 yards, you end up with nine touchdowns. People are gonna be like, oh, that's pretty decent. That's why you got that contract.

He is he is a good wide receiver, but the issue is he can't stay on the field. Every season we've had an injury with him. It's not that I don't believe in his talent, I don't believe in him staying on the field to help this team. Because that's what Jordan needs, especially now with the new news that Micah had to have a second surgery and is now potentially going to be out till mid-late October. That's the whole first, what, four games, five games potentially, maybe longer. Like, you might miss the playoffs now. Like, you're not in uh in an easy division. You're now having to rely on the offensive side to get it done, which means Jordan Loves needs all his weapons, and now you got Christian Watson, might have injury, injury prone. Uh Jalen Reed, injury prone, and now Josh Jacobs. He's going to jail. We don't know what's gonna happen this season with him. So it's the Packers are are probably not happy with the way this offseason's going so far. Um, and yeah, it's that's all I gotta say about the about those Packers signing.

So yeah, I mean it was it was wild. There was uh a post out there that said Christian Watson is making more than 2 million per year more than Devontae Smith. So 110 million for zero 650 plus yard seasons. Uh Devontae Smith is only making 75 million for three a thousand yard seasons. So last year, Devontae Smith played 17 games, Christian Watson 10, receptions, Smith 77, Watson 35, receiving yards, Smith over 1,000, Christian Watson 611 touchdowns, Smith had four, Watson had six. It's just wild. Like it's a crazy extension for me.

Well, they don't they know they know they don't have a lot of uh options right now, which honestly, there is still a lot of wide receivers on the market, which we know we talked about in a previous episode, but we'll see. I mean, I think a lot of these teams are waiting to see what happens in training camp and see who gets injured and see where they need to fill those holes, or maybe they see a wide receiver that isn't giving them enough. Defensive ends also are still actually pretty pretty wide. You got Von Miller out there, a few others. Um, but yeah, I I think that this this signing is more so much more of a we got this guy, he's been loyal to us, let's give him that return. But I I don't I think it's way too much for for what he's done in the actual league.

Yep. So in other news, uh Lions rookie wide receiver Kendrick Law tore his ACL during practice a few days ago. Um there's also Russell Wilson retired. And I think Cassie when he might ask.

Yeah, he's joined the CBS team. Um Brennan Yuk also has a warrant issued for him after posting on his socials of him speeding while driving his own personal vehicle. He then, of course, later apologized, but that did not stop California from saying, Where are you, Brandon? We need to have a talk. Um and last is uh Niners related as well. Uh George Kittle is on track to be back for week one, unlike we've heard from other big injury stars such as Malik Neighbors and now Mika Parsons.

Then we got week 13 at the Patriots. I have that as a win. Yep. Week 14 at Packers. Um I think I have them. Ah this one's weird because it is winter in Lambeau. Um, and not saying that, you know, Josh can't play in the snow. He's very used to the cold. But if Mika's back by then, I think it will be a very different team than what we've been seeing. Um, so I'm gonna say the Packers win this one. I think this is a loss for the Bills.

Yeah. I have them I'm gonna have them lose it both just for now. Wow. Of course, week 15 versus the Bears. Bears come in. DJ Moore revenge game. Don't matter, because Caleb Iceman's gonna walk in and say, win for the Bears, loss for the Bills. Wow. Uh week 16 at Broncos Christmas game. Big Primetime. Uh I have this as a loss. Well. That defense is stout for the Broncos.

They get a bye week, but it's good for them because they're gonna come out, go to the New York Jets and whoop up on them.

Actually, well, no, they got a lot, they got a slight dome-ish, so still a loss. Still a loss in week 11. Week 12 versus the Jets. Cass, what you got?

Yeah. Um, now taking it real quickly to what we have as the over-unders for their season. Um, starting with the Buffalo Bills, over under 10 and a half. I was probably then the closest. I had them for 12 wins. Uh the Miami Dolphins, over under four and a half. Makes sense. Patriots, pretty much the same as the Bills, over under 10 and a half. Uh but that one was, we were all pretty close to that one. Um, people have that one as pretty much them being under 10 and a half, if you were gonna go with that, uh, which pretty seems they have a much tougher schedule, I think, than the Bills. Uh, and then the Jets, over under five and a half. My final notes are the last news we actually we did forget, but it this is I feel like this could fail the last couple minutes here, uh, a little bit longer of a news session. Um, as people in the Midwest know, the Chicago Bears uh board of directors had officially uh have officially basically passed to um start the ground on a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana. People who don't know, Hammond, Indiana is literally about 30 minutes from Chicago. It's northwest Indiana. It's pretty much the first, if not the second, city you hit when heading um from Illinois to Indiana. Um so it's very close. It's pretty much about the same distance for most people it is to um Arlington. I would say the biggest differences, though, um, in terms of infrastructure that's already there. Uh Arlington, the road out to Arlington is is would have to be expanded. There's also not a lot of uh transit that is fully in that area currently, versus Hammond does have a Metro that is one of the largest transit lines out there. Also, they could there's the expressway as well as both um the Skyway does run through that as well for an exit. So plenty of different ways to get out there. Um at the end of the day, it's not set in stone. It's it's a real news, but it's not 100% confirmed. And the reason we say that is for one, there's a lot of coarse political news. JB Pritzker could be up for re-election. This might be how he throws his last football annotation, Hail Mary, to potentially save the Bears and keep them in Illinois. Um, but also I I'm I'm kind of on the fence. I don't really think it's that big of a deal. I want the ability to be able to go to a larger stadium that potentially has a dome on it, where we're able to host in the Chicago area college football playoffs, a Super Bowl. Those are the things I'm looking forward to. It would essentially be in terms of how Dallas built theirs, where you would have a huge parking lot for everyone to fit their cars. You would have the transit lead right into it, you would also have an entertainment area where there's hotels, restaurants, uh, shopping centers, all leading to the stadium itself. So you could hang out there and not even go to the game. Um, and that's that's what I think that people are looking forward to. Also, the narrative that they're gonna be the Indiana Bears, it's not gonna happen, guys. It's not gonna happen. Chicago's too historic. Guess what? The Chicago Board of Directors voted for this. They're not changing the name to the Indiana Bears. It's the same thing. We can talk, go down the list. Yes, there are teams who are not in their respected city, but guess what? They're just as far. Do you know how far the 49ers stadium is from San Francisco? 50 minutes to an hour. Some people actually take a plane to be closer, a private jet to be closer to that. The Giants and the Jets. Neither in New York, New Jersey, the Chiefs. They're not in Kansas City. I don't know what you know. I don't know if you know this. The Dallas Cowboys. Not in Dallas. But I digress. It's gonna be fine. Let's wait for the news to come out, my fellow Chicagoans and Bears fans. It's going to be okay because no matter what, they're gonna be the Chicago Bears. Oh man.
