SPEAKER_01

Welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of It's the Kids World Podcast. It is new school year, school year 25-26, and we are back recording. So today I have one of our fourth graders.

SPEAKER_00

Cameron.

SPEAKER_01

And Cameron's gonna be joining us on a lot of episodes this school year. Um, she's one of our fourth graders. I feel like one of our bright fourth graders. So we'll be directing this ship. Sometimes Cameron's gonna be leading the conversation because I'm not gonna be doing all the talking.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, you are.

SPEAKER_01

No, I'm not.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, you are.

SPEAKER_01

I see you got the polo on today. Why you didn't tell me you was gonna wear the polo today? I would have worn it.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't I didn't even know.

SPEAKER_01

You just pulled it out.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's when my mama pulled out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, mama, okay. All right, nice. How's your summer?

SPEAKER_00

Good. I went to Punta Kanda.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, what you do there?

SPEAKER_00

We went my auntie, she, it was her birthday. So we went to Putta Kanda for her birthday. And then my family came.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. How long did y'all um how long did y'all stay?

SPEAKER_00

I think it was four days.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. That's good. I got my passport. I still haven't used it. Is this your was that your like first stamp?

SPEAKER_00

I think it was my first time going out of the country.

SPEAKER_01

That was your first time? And you beat me. Yeah, I got mine. I plan on going out of the country soon, so hopefully uh I get to do that. So, the new school year. This is your last year as an elementary student. How you feeling? Are you are you ready to go to middle school?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Why not?

SPEAKER_00

Because we're gonna be the youngest there again. It's gonna be like kindergarten all over again.

SPEAKER_01

It is. But it's gonna be okay though. I feel like you'll be okay. Cause you like stick to your friends and the people around you. You don't really try to. Wait, do you try to get to know other people or you kind of like to stay?

SPEAKER_00

I guess try to get at least like one more friend from the new grade.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Well.

SPEAKER_00

Especially if there's new students.

SPEAKER_01

Do you like gravitate towards the new students? Like you try to get the like gravitate means like if you see new students coming in, do you try to like welcome them and become friends with them? Or you kind of like it?

SPEAKER_00

I wait for like a little bit to that. I wait if they don't come to me first, I'm gonna go to them.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Does it matter if it's a boy or a girl? It don't matter. Okay. That's good. Some people not like that. Um why do you think why do you think that sometimes when you're a new student, um, you kind of wait to make friends with people? Like, wait, have you ever been a new student in like a?

SPEAKER_00

I was a new student in kindergarten. I game in the middle of the year.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so so as a new student, like how do you know like when to, you know what I'm saying? Like be yourself or be kind of like shy and not talk to people. Like, what makes you come out?

SPEAKER_00

The first like week, no, not the first week, but the first couple of days that I was there, I was kind of like shy. I didn't do like how how I now how I am now, but then when I got to know people, got more friends, I came to my real self.

SPEAKER_01

What are like certain things like that people can do to make you be like, you know what? I think they're pretty, pretty cool, or I could talk to them.

SPEAKER_00

They make you feel like you belong.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. That's a that's a good word. Tell me more. What what you mean by belong?

SPEAKER_00

Like that you should be here. This is the right school for you.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, nice. And and how how has it been like from kindergarten? Now you're in fourth grade, because I remember when you came in kindergarten, and now it's like you're about to get ready to go. Like, is it kind of sad or it's just like kind of exciting in a sense? Like you you can't wait to see what will happen. Because you're getting older. You can't be here forever. No, you can't.

SPEAKER_00

Should I be coming down here?

SPEAKER_01

You gotta go. That's only for dismissal. You cannot stay here, though. You gotta eventually. You playing any um sports, anything?

SPEAKER_00

I wanna try out for cheer. I tried out for soccer. I don't I didn't do good though.

SPEAKER_01

Uh why why don't you think you did good?

SPEAKER_00

Cause they said spread out and I was the only one like standing there. I didn't, but nobody else spread out. They just grounded the ball.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. Did you like soccer?

SPEAKER_00

I like I like soccer, but I I just don't like running.

SPEAKER_01

You don't like running?

SPEAKER_00

I like running, just not that much.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you can't play soccer then. That's the wrong thing for you. Cause that's all you do in talking. You just running back and forth, and sometimes you don't even score. So, I mean, that's just what soccer is. But you did say you want to uh try for cheerleading. Have you been a cheerleader before?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was last year. I just quit.

SPEAKER_01

What? But why you so why you want to go back?

SPEAKER_00

Because I want to get a second chance.

SPEAKER_01

But you can't quit though. You can't quit. You can't quit again, especially if you make it. But you but most definitely you you should go for it. Um, so once again, this is our new um school year, new season of the podcast. And with that, we do want to like start doing more things within the school, like hosting different events. This is all student-centered. Uh, the reason why uh we're doing this is because we want our students to have a voice and to be able to express themselves um to the best of their ability. Cameron, what do you want to see happen with with the podcast this school year? Like, what would you like for us to do? Or what do what are some things that you want to see happen?

SPEAKER_00

Like a fundraiser.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So what we're gonna do with the money for the fundraiser and what type of fundraiser?

SPEAKER_00

What do you mean, what type?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it's different type of fundraisers. You got like the car washers, you got to sell in the candy, the popcorn, you got sales stuff. Like it's different type. How how we gonna raise money? How you wanna raise money? I put it like that.

unknown

Car wash.

SPEAKER_01

Car wash. You gonna wash some cars? Girl, you ain't gonna wash them.

SPEAKER_00

I like washing dishes. So I'ma wash the car.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, alright. Alright, so then, alright, just say we do the car wash, right? So, what we're gonna do with the money that we make?

SPEAKER_00

We can like get new stuff to like new things. What they call uh stuff like the shirts and the coffee mug, like the pent.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, okay, like buy some buy some more different um merchandise. Merchandise and stuff like that. Okay, I like that idea. How about like so you know how they they have like different organizations and charities and stuff like that that donate to different people and stuff like that? Is it any type of population of people like, you know, like kids made, you know, like homeless? Like, is it any type of homeless people? Okay, we probably could do something like that. Or we might host some things at school too. So you think that'll be something that we could do?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Like how we did the jars with the pennies, and we put like pennies and quarters in it. I think that was when I was in sixth grade.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, like the penny wars. Yeah. So um, so we did the penny wars about a couple of years ago, and it was like every every class had a jar, and we would see who were raised the most money, and I think it was like some type of like maybe pizza party or something at the end of it.

SPEAKER_00

It was a pizza party.

SPEAKER_01

But uh the money was donated to an organization that uh what was it? I think I think they like did something with playgrounds like for kids that are handicapped or disabled. Like they they um would take go into schools and going to places that had uh students with disabilities or kids with disabilities, and they would restructure their playground to be able to um to fit them. So that was pretty cool. I like that idea. I think we'll we'll host that. We can do that around Christmas time. Yeah. All right. You want to write that down? You got good handwriting?

SPEAKER_00

Sometimes.

SPEAKER_01

Oh God. This time, all right. Write that down. Write um to the best of your ability, write Penny Wars. Write it. Yep. Yep, Penny Wars Christmas Fundraiser. I think that'll be cool. That's a cool idea, Camera. I like that. All right, so wow, um, she is writing it down. Uh so yeah, Spotify is where you can find the podcast. Um, I'm sure we'll, you know, expand it out to other different places. But for now, um, that's that's pretty much where you can find us. But Cameron's class is about to be over because she wanted to uh duck elective. She wants she didn't want to go to gym class, so I stole her away from gym class. But gym class is about to be over. So, Cameron, anything you want to say? You know, this is our first episode. Anything you want to leave with the people?

SPEAKER_00

I think that's how you spill it.

SPEAKER_01

You know what? I give you looking at this, Penny is right, Wards is correct. You missing the T and Christmas and the R. So I give you an eight out of ten. And fundraiser, you're missing two letters. I a. If I was grading this, I give you like a no, no, no, for real. I give you like a B plus. You're only missing one, two, three, four letters out of all these. I'll probably give you like a A minus or a B plus. So it's pretty good. It's pretty good. But anything you want to say before we get off here?

SPEAKER_00

Goodbye to the world.

SPEAKER_01

Goodbye to the world. All right. Thank you. This has been the episode of It's a Kids World Podcast.
