After a short break due to technical difficulties, It's a Kid's World Podcast is back! We catch up on everything that’s been happening lately from weekend projects to big celebrations.

SPEAKER_02

Welcome to another episode of It's a Kids World Podcast. It is Monday, March the 9th. Hope everyone had a good weekend. Um, I can see the time change is starting to affect people. So, you know, we got a couple sleepy people and stuff, but you know, hopefully the day progress and everything will get better. Um, it's been a while. This is our first time recording in probably a month. Had some technical difficulties going on, but with the help of ChatGPT, figured it all out. So we're good to go. So today we have Zariah. And we back at it. Um, how was your weekend?

SPEAKER_01

Good actually, because I got to build my bedroom set.

SPEAKER_02

Tell me about that.

SPEAKER_01

Me and my sister, we had bump beds. But first we built my brother's bed. And then we built our bed. Then we built my big sister bed last. But my big sister's bed was actually kinda easy. So we should've um built her bed first. But my brother and my other sister is still mad about um me and Tanaya having LED lights.

SPEAKER_02

Well, y'all got LED uh LED lights around the bed?

SPEAKER_01

No, we got it like on our um hairboard.

SPEAKER_02

Um cool. Wait, how many sisters do you have?

SPEAKER_01

Two.

SPEAKER_02

Two. I didn't know you had sisters. I kind of figure you had one, but wait, how old are your sisters?

SPEAKER_01

One of them is 13 and the other one is 10, about to turn on, turn 11 on April 2nd.

SPEAKER_02

Um, both of them go to school down the street.

SPEAKER_01

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

I never I never knew that. But that's good though. So you was able to build. What did you do? You said you helped build the beds. What did you do exactly?

SPEAKER_01

All I did was help my sister. And um, we um build the beds, and then once we built the bed, like my sister, he was like going crazy because like my brother almost broke the lights. Like he keep on coming in our room, breaking everything. Like, yesterday, he um he was like coming in, me and uh uh Makai and Cuz we shut our room. He keep on coming in, getting all on the um on the ladder and stuff, keep on getting on her bed, keep on getting on my bed. He ripping off my LED lights off my head. It's like me driving me crazy because like I get it, like he like the only boy in the family, but um, it don't mean that you gotta come and mess with the other sisters because that just drives us crazy.

SPEAKER_02

I understand.

SPEAKER_01

He annoys us so badly, it just won't just want me to hurt him. But I still love him.

SPEAKER_02

To play devil's advocate, growing up, I was the only boy in the house until my siblings came like later on. But yeah, it was different growing up in a house full of women, so I can understand, but I don't I didn't have any other kids in the house with me, though. So I guess for him to have siblings in the house that can be kind of annoying. I can see why y'all would be annoyed. But yeah, I grew up in a house full of women. It was interesting. But they was all older though, with no like kids, but but now it was good though that you got a chance to um to do that and make sure you you know enjoyed it or whatever.

SPEAKER_01

All week I've just been cleaning up, folding clothes, and reading books. That's the only thing I've been doing.

SPEAKER_02

What book did you read?

SPEAKER_01

Um, Diary of Wimpiquet.

SPEAKER_02

Classic. Um, them some classic books. Man, them books have been around so long, especially that series. But that's crazy. I never read Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I I never read those books at all. How many have you read? Is that the only one? I know it's not the only one.

SPEAKER_01

I got two books. The purple one and the orange one.

SPEAKER_02

Does he like get older in the books or does he like stay the same age?

SPEAKER_01

I guess stay the same age.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't know if it was like, you know, like, you into Harry Potter?

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

You know, like Harry Potter books, like every book, it's like he's getting older and stuff. That's why, that's why I thought it was like that.

SPEAKER_01

When I was in first grade in my old school, um, my teacher, I was in first grade, and she used to always read us books about Harry Potter. Like she used to have like all the chapters. And every time um she talked about him, he like get older in the books.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I only read one book, but what's interesting, and I've never been, but I plan on going in Chicago, and I'll show you once we get off of here. They have like a Harry Potter store, and it's like so um, it's it's pretty dope. Like you can go in and do a lot of uh other things and see a lot of stuff uh in that store. It's like downtown Chicago.

SPEAKER_01

I used to always act like I'm falling asleep in my um classroom so I can just sit there and uh go to sleep and make somebody wake me up. I used to love doing that.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, that was random. Why did you say that?

SPEAKER_01

Because like when I was in first grade and she was reading the books, me and my friends used to always just sit by each other and just um like act like we sleep so somebody can wake us up. It'd be fun doing that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I mean, if you say so, I don't know where that just came from, but hey, if if you say so. So um, so one thing, so back in February, we had Small Business Day. Um, we didn't get a chance to talk about it because uh, like I said, we had some technical issues going on. But um it was a success. Like we had people to come by the table. We uh we did have like other students at the school have their table set up. They made profits from it. The school didn't take anything. Those students were allowed to keep their money, do whatever they wanted to do with it. So that was something that was nice with our share of the profit. What did we do?

SPEAKER_01

We bought wing stop.

SPEAKER_02

We had the wing stop. And that was also the week of um my birthday. Your birthday, yeah. So how how old are you now?

SPEAKER_01

I'm 10.

SPEAKER_02

10, double digits, your double digits.

SPEAKER_01

Finally in my double digits. I've been waiting for this year.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, you double digits. So what did you do for your birthday?

SPEAKER_01

I went, I went, wait, what did I do for my birthday? I forgot.

unknown

God.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like the wing stop was a mini celebration because we had food and stuff. Um, you know, I got you a little good gift, gift bag with the gift card. So you had like a little mini, like a little party dinner, whatever at school. But what did what did you do at home?

SPEAKER_01

Probably I think I went to um what's that place called?

SPEAKER_02

Um, you tell me.

SPEAKER_01

What is it called?

SPEAKER_02

Sky Zone or somewhere?

SPEAKER_01

I guess like to something like a jumpy place. I I remember me jumping. Something like jumping.

SPEAKER_02

Something like jumping. Was it your idea? It's not like you didn't um you didn't have fun. You don't even remember what it was.

SPEAKER_01

I did have fun. I actually had a lot of fun actually.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm. Did you did you invite a lot of people or was it mostly like a family thing?

SPEAKER_01

I went to um what it's called, Texas Raw House.

SPEAKER_02

Texas Row House.

SPEAKER_01

Actually, I was skating. That's why I went to skating.

SPEAKER_02

You went from jumping to skating. Yes. That's a that's a nice difference. I mean, that's a huge difference. I don't know what you get. Um, what you get at Texas Rowho?

SPEAKER_01

Burgers, like sliders, something like that. Me and Jordan went.

SPEAKER_02

You ate good that week then.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You ate good. You ate good that week. Wait, you said they had you on a horse thing?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was like a horse. I don't know what it was, but I was like, it was saying how old I am and stuff.

SPEAKER_02

That was the Was it like a video? I'm sorry. Was it like a video or something? I don't know what you're talking about. So they had like a play horse in the building? Yes. And you had to get on the horse?

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

No, I never said everybody was just singing happy birthday to me. They were home.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. Oh, okay. That's pretty cool. But no, so I'm glad you I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and glad you got a chance to do that.

SPEAKER_01

So I had that um McDonald's gift card and I only got five dollars left. I had McDonald's last night.

SPEAKER_02

You didn't use that gift card?

SPEAKER_01

I did. I used it twice.

SPEAKER_02

Um I know you like to eat. For you to be so small, you be eating. So I was like, let me get her something involving food. So um I assumed that you liked McDonald's. I didn't know if you liked it or not, so I assume that you liked it. McDonald's. See, look at that. Spot on. I didn't even know that. So that that was a good, that was a good choice.

SPEAKER_01

Good guess.

SPEAKER_02

So, spring break. We got spring break coming up. Spring break starts on Friday at one o'clock. So at one o'clock, boom, you are a free woman. So what are you doing with your spring break?

SPEAKER_01

I have no clue. Probably just cleaning up again and reading books. Like I have no device, nothing. My brother got a game and a TV. My sister got a Chromebook and her phone. My other sister got a Chromebook and I just I'm just left with LED lights and books.

SPEAKER_02

You and these LED lights.

SPEAKER_01

I love LED lights. It's so cool.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, spring break is is a good week to reset. Um I feel like for the teachers and stuff and for the kids, like, you know, you know, we we get we get worn out just like y'all do. So I feel like it'd be a good reset. I don't have any plans. I may I may go out of town for a few days. Um I may get away.

SPEAKER_01

Um birthday.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah? When your mama's birthday?

SPEAKER_01

July or June.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay. I thought you was about to save a spring break. So wait, so your older siblings watch you like while your mama working? Like during spring break, that's what's gonna happen?

SPEAKER_01

Well, my mama, I don't think my mama's gonna be at work, but I think she is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'll be tear that house up.

SPEAKER_01

Every holiday, um, my mama always have work. And I hate that because I never get sp get to spend time to with her. Like last Christmas, I didn't have nothing. Like my mama was not there. We didn't have no gifts, no nothing. My mama said she was feeling um sad. I was sad to her because I was bad. Like, she did tell us that we would not get in nothing. And so I was like, oh, Jesus Lord. Because every year she always said that, and I don't believe her, and I didn't believe her this year, and she actually didn't bring us nothing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But I feel like it's just my personal opinion. I know as like a kid that's always something that you look forward to. But I also think that, you know, as long as you get things throughout the year, like those are still, you know, blessings that you're able to see, like, you know, the clothes you wear, the shoes you wear, and stuff like that. The, you know, even something like going to Texas Roll House, um, those are things to be thankful for. So, you know, and it it'll get better as time passes by.

SPEAKER_01

So that was my present.

SPEAKER_02

What was your present?

SPEAKER_01

Um, going to Texas Roll House.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure, because you like to eat.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. I love eating.

SPEAKER_02

We know.

SPEAKER_01

Um It's like so good. I don't know. It's just food just makes me so happy.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure. I feel like it was Texas Row House I went to and I had the um, it was some catfish. I think it was a Texas Row House. That food was good though. I don't even remember. It's been it's been a minute since I since I went. But um another thing going on this week is parent teacher conference. That used to be the scariest point of my life growing up. I hated. I hated it. I wasn't no bad kid, but it's like I used to like be a little bad. I used to laugh and kind of like not take stuff as serious. So I used to be scared teachers gonna snitch on me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

This is the week that teachers snitch on kids.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, they I hate that. I be like wanting this teacher, I think that I can trust this teacher to tell, to not tell my mama or my daddy about this secret. And they go after at parent teacher conference, they're gonna go tell my mama that I I was um bullying this student or uh Why you first, why you bullying people? Well, it's just a what if. It's just a what if.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

I would not do that. Well, like Please don't, but well, it's it's just self-defense. Like, I call it self-defense. Somebody bullying me, I bully them back.

SPEAKER_02

What are you talking about? Somewhere else or here?

SPEAKER_01

Somewhere else.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

I actually put a boy in a trash can.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, T, we ain't gonna talk about that. But uh parents gonna talk about it. See, you said it was supposed to be a secret, now you're telling on yourself.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, they was they already told on me.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it ain't no secret no more. But you'll be fine though. I feel like you don't got nothing that your teacher you think your teachers here got something to tell on you this week for parent teacher conference? What?

SPEAKER_01

That I've been not paying attention to class because I haven't.

SPEAKER_02

Why why you haven't been paying attention though?

SPEAKER_01

It's like all these distractions. Like I did I do my work and I get it right sometimes, but sometimes I just need help because I don't be paying attention to that part. Like I pay attention, but like I don't pay attention as much to get the whole work done because I need I be needing help.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

When we have partners, I be asking my partner, can they help me on this? But I think that's what partners are for.

SPEAKER_02

It is, but you also have to ask for help if you need help though. Like, if it's something that you didn't catch because you were distracted or whatever was going on, say something so you'll be able to get back on task.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I do. I be asking Miss Smith if I can, um, if she can help me, but she be like, did I pay attention to that uh did that problem? I was like, no.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't like having partners in school.

SPEAKER_01

Why?

SPEAKER_02

Because people don't be doing people don't be, yeah, if you got a good partner, some people don't pull their weight. I done have I have friends with I did all the work and they just sit there.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. I hate that.

SPEAKER_02

See, that's what I'm saying. That's why I ain't want no partner. So then when you have to present your work, y'all did a great job. No, I did a great job.

SPEAKER_01

I hate that. I used to always be in kindergarten. They used to all I will always be in a group, like four in a group or two in a group, or three. And I just do all the work because I was like, they used to call me the smart kid. So I um do all the work. They help a little bit. Like they used to always make me draw everything because I used to always love drawing. Like I used to I just be drawing these stick figures stick figures. I used to hate it.

SPEAKER_02

I can't draw neither, so I'm with you.

SPEAKER_01

You always want me to draw something or do the math or something like that. Like, I knew two times one when I was in um second grade. I don't know how.

SPEAKER_02

I feel I feel like that's the time that you start learning multiplication facts around second grade, something like that, maybe. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Because in third grade you learn like a lot more.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you start to expand on it, but no, I think you'll be good. Um, and it's okay to sometimes be distracted. We not perfect, especially in the classroom, so you will be able to be able to be our.

SPEAKER_01

So what I need to do is I need to go to ELA and get a 10. 10 points up so I can be in the fourth grade level. That's the only bad thing I need to do.

SPEAKER_02

It ain't bad. It's just, you know, that's a growth area where you need to grow it.

SPEAKER_01

That's my goal.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's your growth area. Favorite time of the year. What's your favorite time of the year? Because the weather changed. Hey, I was sitting outside yesterday. It felt so good yesterday.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I wanted to go to the park.

SPEAKER_02

Why you ain't go?

SPEAKER_01

Because my mama said I can't go. Well, she said that she wanted to be outside, but she was like not talking about that outside. She said she wants to talk about that outside.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, we're gonna leave that alone. But yeah, I know what I know outside. Your mama talking about, ew, your mama said she's trying to be outside.

SPEAKER_01

I want to be outside too. I want to be on at the park.

SPEAKER_02

There you go. You got a favorite part?

SPEAKER_01

No. Actually, yes. What? The parks with swings.

SPEAKER_02

I thought you was about to name a specific park, but I like Tower Grove Park. One, I live by Tower Grove Park. Two, I like it. It's not as overwhelming as Forest Park. Forest Park, it's too much going on.

SPEAKER_01

I love Forest Park.

SPEAKER_02

I love it, I love it too. It's just too much going on.

SPEAKER_01

No playground, but you get to just be free and run. That's what I used to always do with my cousins.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and and you can like find a spot in the park by and be to yourself and not have to worry about people because the park is so big.

SPEAKER_01

Um I used to always try to climb the tree. My mom would like call me a monkey because I used to love climbing up trees. Like the trees used to be like to where you can climb it all the way to the top. Well, I'd be in the middle because I'd be too screwed. I'll I'm I think I'm screwed of heights. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I ain't never climbed trees as a kid. But I do like to sit on the room now, though. Especially for some nice shade in the park. Yeah, so you said you said the summer. The summer is your favorite time.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, because I get to go to the pool. We haven't been to the pool for a minute.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I haven't been to a pool in a minute, too, or a beach, but the I I would say my favorite time of the year, it's kind of like spring going into summer because it's getting warmer, slowly getting warmer, but it ain't hot yet. Like summertime and hot.

SPEAKER_01

Do you got a favorite beach? Mine is fugitive.

SPEAKER_02

Fugitive?

SPEAKER_01

Something like that. I don't know. Fugitive beach. Something like that beat.

SPEAKER_02

Where you at? Where you at today at? Where is that?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I have no clue. I love that uh that beach. It's got like all water parts, almost drowned.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I almost drowned too. I almost drowned too. I was like seven years old. No, I wasn't supposed to be in that pool. I got on the diving board, went straight to the bottom. Almost and took myself out the game.

SPEAKER_01

Me too, because my my mama was like letting me swim. So I went in the water, I splashed myself in the water. And so what happened was I drowned. And my my mama thought that I was swimming. So when I start, I was like drowning. So my me, I was like, like trying to like bring myself up, but I couldn't because all the water was like bringing down on me. So then I was trying to open my eyes, but I couldn't see nothing. And I thought I felt the wall, so I was trying to like climb up on the wall, but I couldn't get. It was like so deep. And so my cousin and my um my older sister was pulling me up. And I think my mama pulled me by my hair. I was so mad at that day.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, how old were you?

SPEAKER_01

I was like five.

SPEAKER_02

I was short. Yeah, I th I think I was probably about seven. I went to, I used to go to this camp in the summertime, and they took us to this um pool. It took us to a pool, and I seen all the kids. I I I think I was just like standing around, seeing all the kids getting on the diving board. I was like, I want to do it too. So just like you said, went straight to the bottom, thought I was going up, wasn't going nowhere. Then uh it was like a it was like a male lifeguard jumped in and saved me, gave me some candy, wrapped me up in a little blank, uh little blanket. My grandma came and got me and she told me, boy, you better never get in the pool again. So, yeah, I almost drowned. Almost took myself out.

SPEAKER_01

I was like three something. Like my mama took us to, my sister was having a birthday party. She turned, she turned hair. And we went to this hotel, and my sister had us on our neck, on her neck, and we was like um swimming. She would swept us all the way to five feet.

SPEAKER_02

And dump y'all in the water.

SPEAKER_01

She she um she dropped me and I felt like I was drowning. So I was hold on to the wall. And so I was like scurred.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, this is a second time?

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

You need to stay away from the pool then. You having all these crazy occurrences, you need to stay out of the water.

SPEAKER_01

And I hold myself onto the thing because I was drowning and my mama was like, didn't it see me because I think she was on her phone. And so my sister pulled me up, and then I was like, I was like holding my breath. She took me out of that pool. I was so mad at her. I'm not sure. I was trying to push her back in the water so she can drown.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, don't you do that again.

SPEAKER_01

I was only at four feet.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, those those are experiences where you gotta be like, is this for me for real, or don't do I need to leave this alone? So that's good that everything turned out okay though.

SPEAKER_01

Um I've been drowning ever since I've been in the pool.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you don't need to get in there. No more. Grades. You said you had what what you want to talk about by grades? You scared of your grades?

SPEAKER_00

Huh?

SPEAKER_02

You scared of your grades? Yes. Why? I don't think grades is good. But you just said you've been doing good.

SPEAKER_01

I have.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna look at your report card once we leave out of here.

SPEAKER_01

I've been doing good, but like I don't think I've been doing good. I don't think I've been doing good.

SPEAKER_02

What do you um think you've been kind of like struggling with? Reading, math, reading?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Math is very easy to me. It's like, it's like like I think it's good. Like I think that I can like do the math problems that somebody gives me, like I did in um the talent show, 43 times 37. 1591. That's the only thing I can remember. Well, I can remember some more facts, but like that's the only thing that's easy enough to I can remember.

SPEAKER_02

But are you t are you telling them that you are struggling or need help?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I be needing help, but they be telling me to get on IXL, and that one time Mr. G let us get on music, and I did not do no IXL. Like at all. I did one, I went on my diagnostic, and I um only did one question and got off. I was trying to do something, but like the music, it was like TikTok music.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

That had TikTok meant. Uh see that's the problem.

SPEAKER_02

That's the problem right there at TikTok. But I mean I don't need to be on TikTok. But you got one more, just you got one more quarter and then the school year be over.

SPEAKER_01

So I went to fifth grade.

SPEAKER_02

Then you won the fifth grade. So I would just say, if you need help, say something, and I feel like you'll be okay. So, once again, we back at it. We're recording, no technical difficulties. You know how technology can be sometimes, but I feel like everything is good. We're gonna get back to posting this content. Please support, share, like, you know, all the stuff they be saying on them them apps and all that good stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Do you like um the TikTok dance when you feed each other?

SPEAKER_02

She just interrupted my uh outro. Um, I don't even know what that is.

SPEAKER_01

It's like you like feeding each other. Like, I do not like that. I be tired of eating.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, we know because you eat a lot. But yeah, so.

SPEAKER_01

I'm tired of eating art, that's what I'm talking about.

SPEAKER_02

Speaking of TikTok, um, I think we're gonna come up with our own TikTok page. Yeah. Um to put the yeah, TikTok account to put the videos on so it can like get mixed in with my personal page, and I won't have to post all of it on there. So please be on the lookout for that too. So everyone have a blessed Monday. Be nice, be kind. Say something nice to someone because you never know how they day may be going. Um, so until next time, this is an episode of It's a Kids World Podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Bye, guys.
