Welcome to another episode of It's a Kids. Well, this is episode 10. Oh, we're freshly back from a spring break. I hope that everyone who did have a spring break enjoyed it. The weather was pretty decent. So you um, you know, hopefully you were able to get out, do some fun stuff, and enjoy that. We're now down to our last eight and a half weeks of school, so almost close to the finish line. So to everyone out there who may be students or teachers, um, just know that we're almost to the finish line and the summer is upon us. How are you doing today?
SPEAKER_01Um, good.
SPEAKER_00Alright. How was your spring break?
SPEAKER_01It was alright. It wasn't that good.
SPEAKER_00Why not?
SPEAKER_01Because all I was doing was cleaning up. I wasn't reading no more books because that them was boring. So all I did was keep on begging my mama for her phone. For a second phone. And I was playing 99 Nights in the Forest, trying to build a house with these wood things where you put your wood in. So it wasn't working because the top was not turning into a roof. So at this point, I didn't know what to do.
SPEAKER_00What is that a computer game?
SPEAKER_01What is that? It's like uh it's like on Roblox.
SPEAKER_00Okay, Roblox, of course. So what books that you have? You said they were boring?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00What books were they? Where did you get the books from?
SPEAKER_01Some is from our library. The library, and some that I kept from like way back. I've been had them books. Like, I had them books from like Merrimack and um Kip. I got a lot of books from that. So I got multiple books in my um my vanity or whatever you want to call it. And them books, all them books are boring.
SPEAKER_00So it sounds like it's time for you to get some new books. I mean, just get you some, like what kind of books are you into?
SPEAKER_01Um, chapter books.
SPEAKER_00Okay, what type of chapter books? Are you into scary books, funny books, serious, sport, like what kind of books, adventure, like what kind of books are you into?
SPEAKER_01Um, like serious books and um funny books.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Might have to look into getting you some. Is nothing in the library that you like? Like no books in particular? Yeah. We might have we'll talk about it.
SPEAKER_01Only um, I survived the American Civil War. Well, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Like a Civil War book?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's on Civil War. Okay. Was it any fun part of your spring break? Or all of it was just bland and boring?
SPEAKER_01It was when we went to the park. That's the only time we go out.
SPEAKER_00Which park y'all went to?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. A park they had, like I think it was Forest Park. And it was this park that had a basketball hoop.
SPEAKER_00Well, a lot of them got that. A lot of parts got basketball hoops. Park by my house got basketball hoops, but you probably did go to Forest Park. I mean, Forest Park is probably the biggest, biggest one in St. Louis. Do you feel like you probably was at that one?
SPEAKER_01Mm, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Why y'all go to the zoo? You like the zoo?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Why you go to the zoo? It's free.
SPEAKER_01It's free.
SPEAKER_00The zoo free, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I thought you were supposed to pay.
SPEAKER_00Uh-uh. Well, depending on what part of the world you're in, like different places are are uh you gotta pay. But the zoo in St. Louis is free. Your mama know that? If your mama don't know that, tell her then. Tell her to take you to the zoo. It's free.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'ma try to tell her. She probably gonna say no. Well, I don't know if she's gonna say no or yes.
SPEAKER_00You don't know until you try asking. You assume.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she always says no.
SPEAKER_00Well, hey, just keep asking.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I don't blame her because she just wants us to be safe. Because this world right now, this generation, it's not even that good. Well, it's not good at all.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the world crazy, but you still, like, it is some there are things in the world that I don't agree with. It's stuff going on that you have to be careful, but at the same time, you can't live your life in fear, though. You can't be like, I just scared to do stuff because of what may happen.
SPEAKER_01I mean stay in the house. That's what we do.
SPEAKER_00Staying in the house is okay, but sometimes you gotta get out and enjoy life too, though. You're only what? How old are you?
SPEAKER_01Ten.
SPEAKER_00Then you gotta enjoy your life. Don't worry about what's gonna happen. Yes, be safe, pay attention.
SPEAKER_01I don't got no car to go drive everywhere.
SPEAKER_00No, that's not what I'm saying. Um what I'm saying is wherever you go, with your with your mother or with anybody, yes, pay attention to things around you, but still have fun and enjoy your life. You got to.
SPEAKER_01I wanna enjoy my life. Tell my mama to take me to the zoo.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_01I want to go to the zoo now.
SPEAKER_00I'll tell her. Uh next time I see your mama, we're gonna have a conversation about it. Let's go to the zoo. Spring break was cool though. I I mean, I got a chance to get out the house for a little bit. Um, it was nice. I enjoyed it. Uh, I did go out of town for a couple of days. The weather wasn't nice. I was like, man, I didn't go back to St. Louis, but no, it was it was cool though. I got a chance to get some sleep. Did you get some sleep at least?
SPEAKER_01Yes. A good a good night's sleep every day at spring break. I don't have to wake up at like like four or five o'clock in the morning just to get ready for school.
SPEAKER_00Four or five in the morning is crazy.
SPEAKER_01Well, my mama said that we gotta do that because we don't know how to get dressed. Cause we we will be late. Well, my sisters will be late. We won't be late. Because our school starts at 7 15. They school start at like six something.
SPEAKER_00Right, they start before y'all, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So we gotta get ready before it's 6 30. Because I think they school started 6 30. Because that's what time was.
SPEAKER_00Well, at least you got a chance to get some resin. I'm sure you ate. I know you, you be eating.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I'm sure you probably ate.
SPEAKER_01It's good too.
SPEAKER_00Probably ate up everything, you know. So no, so that was good. You know, able to enjoy spring break. Uh, you know, now it's time to get back to it. Um, so we went, well, I needed my iced coffee because in St. Louis, right now, it is March the 26th. It's like almost 90 degrees outside today. Why is it so hot outside? I don't know, because the temperature is probably gonna drop tomorrow. I think it's supposed to rain or storm because it is too hot outside. But we were going for a walk and I needed my iced coffee because I couldn't drink the hot stuff. And um Zaraya was walking with me, and she brought up a point. So we was talking about holding open doors. Well, she brought up holding open doors. What is your perspective on that? Because you said that you had heard something.
SPEAKER_01My brother said that um boys are supposed to go first and not girls. But I kinda agree with him because if you get robbed, if you if a boy opens a door for a girl and say ladies first, and then the on the other side of the door is a robber, then he'll probably say ladies first again. So he wants the ladies to get um robbed first, and then him, he probably gonna run away.
SPEAKER_00Alright, let me add in a most valid point. Her brother's in second grade. So, um, yeah, that that's that's for context. But um what I say, my my perspective is like I grew up in a house full of women, so I always thought men are supposed to open the door, nobody taught me that. I thought that was just being nice, especially for like a woman or for an older person or whatever. So my take on it is if you see a robber and the boy make you go out the door for us, you probably shouldn't be around that boy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because men should always hold open doors and be a gentleman. Um, you know, it's it's a nice gesture. A lot of people don't do it, but I feel like, you know, you should. So you need to talk to your brother about this. So that ain't that ain't a good take.
SPEAKER_01It should not be ladies first.
SPEAKER_00When did this conversation come up?
SPEAKER_01Um, when I was getting on his bed, I told him ladies first, and he was like, no, boys first.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, it's ladies.
SPEAKER_00Everybody will taught things differently. Maybe he just don't know.
SPEAKER_01He needs to be a gentleman.
SPEAKER_00But all men aren't gentlemen.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. They supposed to.
SPEAKER_00Supposed to, yeah. But that's not. That's just the word. Once again, you talk about your generation, my generation, all the generations are like that. Every every man is not like that. So um, as the school year progress on, we have some things coming up. Uh we got testing how to graduation. Yeah, graduation. Most definitely got graduation. Um, what are you most excited about? Because you got y'all got a lot of stuff coming up.
SPEAKER_01Carnival.
SPEAKER_00Huh?
SPEAKER_01A carnival.
SPEAKER_00Your carnival? Yeah. You're excited about the carnival?
SPEAKER_01Yes, because it's gonna be a lot of food.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I got something planned for y'all too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um the graduation gonna be good because I can finally graduate. Like it's been like two years since I haven't graduated yet. I've been squis I've been switching schools, switching schools. Over and over again, so I didn't get to graduate. I almost graduated third grade and no, I think that was, yeah, third grade with Miss my um and my old school, Merrimack. I almost graduated to fourth grade, but I got kicked out because I didn't get no bus. So, well, I didn't get kicked out. Right, right. You didn't get kicked out. My mama took me out to school because they wouldn't give us a bus because she tired of paying um a lot of stuff. That's personal stuff. But there you go. Um, anywho, so I think that the gradu the graduation will be fun because all my family members will probably be there. And so I can finally get this uh brag to my sister that I'm gonna be in her building. Yeah, I'm gonna be in her building, and I'm gonna be sitting about her, making her mad. Well, she's gonna get mad for no reason.
SPEAKER_00What grade your sister in?
SPEAKER_01She's gonna be in sixth grade.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01My other one's gonna be in eighth. I'm gonna be in fifth in the other building. My brother's gonna stay here so I can not be by him because he's so annoying.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna come down to middle school and check on you and make sure you don't be down there tripping.
SPEAKER_01I'm not.
SPEAKER_00I'm just I'm just saying I'm coming down there personally for you. I'm just gonna pop up on you.
SPEAKER_01Dang. Well, ain't my and I'm gonna be with different kids.
SPEAKER_00I don't care. I'm gonna find out your schedule. I don't care. I'm finding yeah. Don't you say dang. I'm gonna find out your schedule. I'm gonna make sure I keep up with you because yeah, you ain't gonna go down that tripping. But no, that's good though, to be excited for graduation. Graduation is always an important time because you gotta, you know, you get a chance to appreciate your work. Like you finally get to a place where you can appreciate it. People get to see you, it's a happy moment, your family is there. Um, what you want for what kind of what you want for graduation give? I'll get you a graduation gift. Nothing expensive though, because I ain't got no money.
SPEAKER_01So what I want is another gift card for food, and I want some some snacks. And I want it to be the snacks is gonna be a big Hershey bar and a drink. And uh the drink is gonna be some Kool-Aid.
SPEAKER_00Then I want So you want me to make some Kool-Aid?
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Because woman just buy some Kool-Aid already made it. The Kool-Aid jammers, the little ones to be in the little thing with the plastic top on it.
SPEAKER_01Them good. Okay, we'll and then I want Hershey's.
SPEAKER_00Hold on, I said one thing. You done name about three or four things. We'll talk. Three.
SPEAKER_01Three things. Another gift card for food, a Hershey bar, a big Hershey bar, some Hershey's, and then a Kool-Aid thing.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I'll try to keep that in mind for sure. So yeah, so excited for graduation. But before you get to that, you got a couple things of y'all got mouth testing, which is uh the most important part, and then also you got NWEA testing, which is important, and then that's it. That's the last two things y'all got. The longest the last two tests that y'all have.
SPEAKER_01Them tests be hard. I know. Every time I get an answer right, then it's gonna go like um every time I get an easy one, um, then the it's gonna be a hard one.
SPEAKER_00I know. That's a good thing because the thing with NWA testing, like, the more you get right, it's gonna get harder, but that's a good thing because it is showing you that you're constantly getting them right. So if it stops, that means you didn't get them right. So if you keep going, that means uh, you know, something has improved, like your goal, you probably matched your goal, you're exceeding your goal. So that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_01I matched my goal. Because I I wanted my goal to be a 210 at least. And so I reached my goal.
SPEAKER_00All right.
SPEAKER_01And now my my goal is gonna be a 217. So I gotta try to at least get to a 215 or something like that. 214.
SPEAKER_00And you can you're gonna get it and we're gonna celebrate. You're gonna get it and we're gonna celebrate. Alright, so speaking of that, um, get you to class so you can be able to get get back to it.
SPEAKER_01But in my um grades.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So um things coming up. We within the next week or two, we'll have like the YouTube page up and we'll start recording videos and all that good stuff. Um, please, if you're listening to this, subscribe. It is on Apple Music, not Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all other platforms. Um, yeah, it's free. It don't cost to listen, it don't cost to support uh the students, um, them having a voice and being able to speak whatever is on their mind. This is a safe space for them to come in. Um I've been working with a uh a few kids. Like, you know what I'm saying? I got a few fourth graders, got a third grader, got a kindergarten I'm working with. So, you know, making sure that they have a space where they can express themselves. So, anything else you want to say before we close and wrap this up, ma'am?
SPEAKER_01Um, I hope y'all have um the students, I hope y'all have a good um graduation and everything else what's going on, and I hope y'all had a good spring break.
SPEAKER_00Most definitely. The summer is on the way. All right. Um, so y'all heard that. Have a great day. This has been another episode of It's a Kids.
