Hey Haute Mama
Hey Haute Mama the podcast was conceived during my son Beck's first year of life when I started realizing there is a whole lot more to motherhood than meets the eye. Motherhood changed me. I had evolved and yet I didn't want to lose the essence of who I was in the role of a mother.
Opinions on parenthood and raising children abound, making it even more difficult to decipher what rings true to you and what you'd like to implement in your own household when raising your kids. We discuss it all: the good, the bad and the ugly.

In this episode, we talk about health, confidence, aging, motherhood, and the perspective shifts that matter most. We share what we've learned throughout Season 1, revisit some of our favorite moments, and discuss how our definitions of success, wellness, and confidence have evolved over the years.
We also dive into:
- Why we think Episode 2 connected with so many listeners
- Confidence in your 30s vs. your 60s
- Health habits that have made the biggest difference in our lives
- Our favorite moments from Season 1
- What's coming next in Season 2
Most importantly, we talk about the power of connection and why we're excited to spend more time exploring friendship, community, and the relationships that shape us in Season 2.
Thank you for being part of our first season. We can't wait for what's next. 🤍
And as always, keep showing up, keep finding the good, and keep being the Haute Mama you truly are.
Welcome to the Hey Hot Mama Podcast. I'm Jen Purple, founder of Hot of the Rackin' Hot Mama Collective.
SPEAKER_00And I'm Liz Gridani, Jenny's mom, also known as the OG Hot Mama.
SPEAKER_01We're mother and her duo having real conversations about motherhood, health, life, and finding more joy in the everyday moments.
SPEAKER_00And Jinny is known for her positive outlook and daily gratitude practice. And together, we're here to share stories, perspective shifts, and plenty of laughs along the way.
SPEAKER_01Because at the end of the day, we all deserve to feel like the hot mamas we truly are. Welcome to the Hey Hot Mama podcast. I'm your host, Jen Perolt of Hot Off the Rack and Hot Mama Collective. And I'm Liz Gwidotti, better known as Jenny's mom. You're gonna have to let me know if I get lipstick on my teeth. How are you looking at that? Right now? Yeah. Good. You're fine. Okay, good. No, I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_00I'll be like, bitch, you got lipstick on your teeth.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01This is our final episode of season one. And I feel like we've come a long way, don't you think?
SPEAKER_00Oh, absolutely. We haven't killed each other. So that's a plus right there. I think we've uh shared some stories. We've maybe tried to learn a few things, and and we've definitely had laughter along the way.
SPEAKER_01So three things. And you haven't been answering your phone. So I have a lot of stories to tell you. And I made a list of the stories that I need to tell you. With one being uh over Memorial Day weekend, we all did I tell you about this? About how we all went to Am I gonna like this story? Yes, okay, okay We all went to our friend's house, we went to Josh and Courtney's, and they insisted that all of the adults and all of the kids go and play kickball and wiffle ball, okay? And anybody who knows me as my whole life, and actually one of my one of my best friends is here today. She's been my best friend since the fourth grade. And she was she was one of those part of our family. Yeah, she was one of those team captains at recess for kickball.
SPEAKER_00Who didn't want to pick you? Yep.
SPEAKER_01Uh they would, she, she and my other best friend were always team captains, and they would pick me dead last.
SPEAKER_00And you were fine with it. You probably preferred not to be picked at all.
SPEAKER_01I didn't really want to play. I wish we could have played something else. And then if we played tether ball together, they would make sure I was in the middle so I couldn't touch the ball. But anyway, so we're we're playing, we're we're getting proud.
SPEAKER_00Is it supposed to be a proud moment?
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be proud, but I just wanted to tell you the story. Okay. So all the kids get to be the team captains, okay, and they have no clue of my athletic abilities, okay? And they start picking, I kid you not, dead last. I was the very last one. I think they used to. How do they know?
SPEAKER_00People know. Well, it's you. Yeah. Yeah, you put it off.
SPEAKER_01It's it's obvious. Yeah. And and well, speaking of your rudeness here, uh, and you calling out my um unathletic ability, which by the way, I have some athletic ability. You do, you just don't apply it. I no, it's the hand-eye coordination with a ball. It's terrible. You got that from me. Yeah, it's horrible. Yeah. Well, I wanted people to know who are listening to this podcast. One of my friends was like, How do you do this podcast with your mom? She's so mean to you. And I was like, firstly, thank you for recognizing that. And secondly, because my one of my biggest goals with this podcast is for people to realize you do not need validation from your mother to live your best life and to have a relationship with her. Like, I don't need your approval on everything that I do to enjoy being around you.
SPEAKER_00Would you agree? Oh, absolutely, I would agree. But I would also be like, how is a little honesty um mean? No, it doesn't, I don't, I don't think it's that mean.
SPEAKER_01And then it allows me to be mean back to you. Honestly, if people could just do that, say what they want to say, you know. In fact, Jordan here was telling me she was like, it's almost like you created such a strong sense of self in me that like I can take it and it just rolls right off. You're welcome. Thank you. Yeah, yeah. Anyway, anybody who's listening, again, you do not need validation from your mother to live your best life.
SPEAKER_00And then how did you feel about that from your mom, though? Well, that was a different story. But you and your mom can get along and don't have to agree on everything.
SPEAKER_01Right. And even best friends, me and Jordan, right here, best friends. We are almost as opposite as can be. She is as crunchy as can be. Picture a nature valley bar that you left in the sun in your car. That's Jordan. And I here's the thing, I'm open to it. Like I love to hear I'm about all perspectives. Like, I want to hear all three of you.
SPEAKER_00You, Haley, and Jordan have always spoken your mind. I think that's what's great about a friendship. You are gonna get honesty from them. And to me, your best friend that you are gonna be with for your life, yeah, you need that. Now, you said something about how was I with my mom. Listen, my mom would tell me when I got ready for a date, she would say, Um, do you want to go back and put on some more makeup? She would suggest these.
SPEAKER_01Whereas you would tell me to go back and change my shirt because I wasn't gonna wear that. In which I went back and patched that shirt to put on the one that I wanted to wear later. So I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Yeah. I mean, we have, I would say we have healthy communication every morning. We talk on the phone and we argue almost every day. And she's probably looking at me going, not every day. We're literally arguing right now without even saying any words. Because we argue every morning, but in a very healthy way, because she says what she has to say, I say what I have to say, and at the end of the day, like we're both still gonna feel the way that we feel. And like, that's how you learn new things. If you didn't, if you weren't open to different perspectives, then you would never learn anything new.
SPEAKER_00Very true. Now, speaking of perspectives, because I think we started this podcast on perspective ships, yes. Right? And one of the first things that we did was you had asked me to journal. Which by the way, I stopped by the house yesterday and I read your journal.
SPEAKER_01Your empty journal. Your empty journal. And I'm I can't even tell.
SPEAKER_00I've been working out. Um, I'm glad you found my journal because I have not been able to find it.
SPEAKER_01Okay, good. Okay, but you maybe wrote like one thing in there and it was like, dear journal. I feel like you're the only one who understands why I was doing that as a joke with my friends.
SPEAKER_00But let us get back to this. You really did say that? I did say that. Um, well, that's how we used to write in our diaries. Dear diary. Nobody knows. Nobody else knows me like you do. I can't say this to anyone else but you, Diary. Yes. All right. But I say that to say, even though I haven't been journaling, I have been thinking of those moments. Now, I do think you should journal, and I'll tell you why. As you get older or even as life goes on, if you can go back and when you're going through a tough time and read some of the things that you wrote that were positive and that were good and that you appreciate it, that can definitely give you a lift that you may need. So I think it's so valuable to journal. Yeah, have I picked it up?
SPEAKER_01I and you don't need to read your empty journal to know that you haven't been journaling because you've been real sassy over the past month, and it's because you haven't been journaling. The other important story is I'm sure you've seen Blake's new Cyber truck.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, the spaceship.
SPEAKER_01Yes, which I he he basically bought this truck because it makes the kids happy. Like whenever he was trying to pick out a new car, he asked them what they wanted. And every time we're we're driving around, they're like, Cyberbeast, cyberbeast, like it makes them so happy. And Blake is totally the type to pick a car based off of what would make his kids happy. It's a really good dad like that, you know. But anyway, so Haley and I were talking about this cyber truck situation and the self-driving feature. So that's the only thing I like about it is that you can get in, press a button, tell it, tell it where you want to go. That is pretty cool. And it will drive you there. And we were talking about how that is going to change the way that kids take their parents' cars and like sneak out. And you know what it made me realize? Did I tell you the first place? Did I tell you the first time I ever stole your car and went somewhere? Did you even know that I did that? No. Yeah. It was, Jordan, did I tell you this story?
SPEAKER_00You're allowed to laugh, but I'm gonna read this in your diary. I have no idea. Did you not write it?
SPEAKER_01So the story is I was probably, I guess I was 16. Yeah. But I I think I had maybe, I don't think I had my driver's license yet. I had like my permit. And you weren't home, you were probably coaching chair privates. And I think it was just it had to be me and Kate. It had to be me and Kate. And you'll never believe where I stole your car and went. Where do you think I went?
SPEAKER_00Well, I have no idea because you didn't even want to drive till you were in 1200. I know. So, okay, let's. I'm gonna say you went to go eat someplace. Yes, okay, guess where it was. Guess where I went? Guess where I went. Well, you didn't go to Chick-fil-A. No. I'm gonna die and figure it out. Oh my god. You didn't get a go get a snowball. No. Where did you go and eat at oh raising cane? Yes, okay. Well, that was close to Chick-fil-A.
SPEAKER_01How sad is it? That the first place I ever stole my mom's car went somewhere was raisin canes.
SPEAKER_00That would be my first place, too.
SPEAKER_01I don't blame you. Good choice. I think so too. We are back. I was just getting in trouble again from my mom. I am 35 years old and I still get in trouble. Absolutely. And you'll never know why. You'll never know why because she won't even let me tell you. But you know, let's talk about our most popular episode. Our most popular episode is how my mom's legs look like this at age 62. That was our most popular, our most listened to episode. And why do you think why do you think that was?
SPEAKER_00Well, I I don't know, honestly. But I do know that people care about their health and and they want that.
SPEAKER_01They I mean I feel like it's a pretty easy answer. They literally just wanted to know. Like ever that was the most asked question. So it makes sense that it would be the most listened to episode was what is the answer? And I will say that while other people really enjoyed that episode, I didn't feel like you gave us like a really good answer to that. What do you mean? What what do you feel was lacking or not answering? I think it was just a very anticlimatic answer. It was just like I put in the work.
SPEAKER_00Well genetics. And unfortunately, Jimmy, no. Unfortunately, the answer to being in great shape and in good shape is very mundane. It is day in, day out, the same thing. There is nothing exciting, there is nothing great about it. You just have to do it. Sometimes it's boring, it's monotonous, you don't want to do it, and really that's what it takes. So I it is very anticlimatic to answer that question. But that's the answer. That's what you have to do. So I I can't I can't make it fun and exciting. I wish I could. And I think a lot of times that's what people want. Yeah. And so then they stop and they never achieve their goals that they could achieve. But that, and it never gets easier. Sometimes it gets better. There's better days than others. It never gets easier. It's just what you have to do for an hour a day to reap the rewards. An hour money.
SPEAKER_01I think 15 minutes is good. In fact, I just texted Blake the other day and I said, let's start something new where we both encourage each other to do a little bit of. I mean, both encourage each other. Blake works out. But I mean me. Encourage me that I want to do more weightlifting. That's great. Yeah. And that's a great place to do it. I want to be stronger. I want to perfect. Oh, well, but back to our most popular episode. I think they maybe kind of liked it too because of it was an honest conversation between us, also about me sharing about GLP one. And right now I think that women are craving these honest conversations surrounding health and fitness because it's hard not to assume that literally everyone is on GLP one. Like if somebody is dropping weight, it's like clearly she's on GLP one, right? Wouldn't you think so? I'm talking about in today's society, doesn't it feel that way? Sure. So I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_00Especially celebrities and things like that.
SPEAKER_01Not even just celebrities. I'm talking like friends you've known your whole life. Do you feel that way?
SPEAKER_00Do you think that? Yeah. Okay.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01But so that's why I think they appreciated that even though it was never a secret, I was happy to tell anybody that I had done it. But I think that they like to hear, like, oh, she's being open about it. And they want to know, I feel like women want to know what's attainable and what you and what you use tools for, tools being GLP one. Uh so I think it was kind of cool for people to see both perspectives of somebody who has worked really hard their entire life to maintain a certain physique and health. Yep. Uh versus the other person who was like who was open to using their resources. Who was open to using their resources, especially when, you know, I mentioned in that episode because when I got my blood work back, it said that um my A1C was high, you know? And and so that was just a tool I felt like I could use in order to not have to deal with medicine my whole life, you know, and instead I got to do a cycle of it, and it worked really well for me. She still is not a fan, friends who are listening right now.
SPEAKER_00I'm not a fan. Yeah. No, uh, because I feel especially when you have 10, 20 pounds to lose, um, you definitely want to do something that's gonna be something that you can sustain for life. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Is that uh have I not been sustaining it? It's been a long time. Have I not been sustaining it? And I said I've been I have been doing my homework. I've been working out. In fact, you know what? My friend Elena's husband, she said that um whenever we were at the fair recently, he was like, Oh, Jen's looking really like fit and skinny. And I was like, Well, did you tell him that I work out two Tuesdays a month? So of course, of course, what were we expecting? No, but I haven't, it it's been more than the two Tuesdays a month. I I walk, I walk every day. I drag my sister out there and we go for a walk every day. I went for a walk last night with my neighbor, and I did a workout yesterday.
SPEAKER_00Perfect. You just do what you can do, but you're trying to do something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and and and and that's to help maintain the tools that I use. So GLP one, it is not an end all be all, especially when yes, like I mean, I think it is life-changing, but I mean, as far as you do need to put in the work for muscle mass because that's what it takes away from. And I will say, I think I did maybe notice like a little bit of change from that. I don't know if it was just because I wasn't really working out hard anymore and lifting weights. I had taken so much out. I don't know if it was my age that now I'm 35 and it's not like I just keep this muscle. But that's why I've been, that's why I said I want to work more with weights.
SPEAKER_00And that's my concern. My concern is if the goal is to be skinnier, thinner, then you can take the shot. You will not eat as much, and then therefore you'll lose weight. But where does the fitness come in? Like you said, uh the muscle mass, that is so important. And I just feel like that may get lost as you go, oh, okay, I'm looking good now. I don't need to do the extra with the weights. And that's that's yeah, a disservice to yourself. So that's where my concern with the ease of the GLPs come in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, what does feeling healthy mean to you now compared to 20 years ago?
SPEAKER_00Well, certainly 20 years ago, I was I wanted, I I I wanted to look good. That was probably my goal 20 years ago.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Now, at the age of 60, my goal more is to what do I want to do? And what kind of health do I want when I'm 70, 80, 90? And what do I want to do at those ages? So now I feel like my goal is I want to be strong, I want to be able to play with my grandkids, if I want to go somewhere, do an activity, I want to have the strength and the health to do it. I think another thing that you start to think about is as you get older, life happens. And uh you can there's certain illnesses that just come with being older and you're exposed to more things. Um what is how can you be at your best so that when something in life happens that's beyond your control, cancer, a car accident, a fall, a heart condition. Um, how can you be at your best to fight back? And so that I think as I at my age now are two things that I'm looking at. I want to be strong enough to do the things I w I want to do, and two, I want to be in great health that if something does happen, I've got a great foundation that I can fight back with.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 20 years ago for me, I was Jordan do some math for us. Was I 15? Okay, I was 15. So 20 years ago, health for me was I mean you took care of it all. You made me work out. You were my chair coach, you made my dinners, you were in charge of my food. And so I I didn't really think much about health. And so that's what I mean by now. It's weird that I'm in charge. Yeah, I understand that. Yeah. So I I would say I I just didn't, I didn't even think about it back then. And now I do, I do look at the future of my health. I would say, I would say the majority of women in their 30s think more about instant gratification. And I think that's the phrase of GLP one. And and on top of that, too, like when everybody around you is skinny because of it, it's hard not to be like, why not, why not jump on that train? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I understand that. Um and then well, absolutely, when you're 15, it's a good thing that your parents are serving you nutritional wheels. They're building the foundation, they're encouraging you to be in activities and they're taking you to those activities. So, Billy, they're building the foundation for you as now you're 35 now, but you have something to pull back on. You know what it was like to have healthy meals at home and portion control. You knew what it was like to be in shape. So now you want to get that feeling back. Thank you. Did you hear what she said?
SPEAKER_01You knew what it was like to be in shape. Well, do you really think I look that bad?
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, no, no, no. What I'm saying is though, at 15, because you were in sports, that set the foundation of what it feels like to be in shape. And then as you get older and go through life, it's something that you can pull a reserve that you can pull back on. Now, I say all this to say your own grandmother, who is now 91, okay, she is always taking care of her health. Okay, believe it or not, when she was growing up, they would split a Snickers bar five ways. Now, this wasn't the king biggie size, the king size that they have today. So, was their portion control just a little skewed? Maybe so. But that's what they did. So, and Lolo always uh exercised in some form or fashion back then. Now, at the age of 80, she got kidney cancer. Because she was in such good shape, did not have high blood pressure, did not have diabetes, they were able to remove a kidney. That took care of the kidney cancer. At the age of 85, she got another cancer, lymphoma. And because once again, she was in such good shape, she was able to have chemo and she sailed through that. Yeah. And now at 91, bless her little heart, she has like 10% kidney function because that poor little kidney has been beaten, abused, and battered. But yet she still walks every day. She gets down on the floor and plays with her grandkids because she did the things that she needed to do and she was ready. Her body was ready and able to handle it.
SPEAKER_01Well, I do think that does go back a little to genetics because that is also a fortunate thing. It is. I would say that genetics definitely does play a role in that. And I know that she well, you said you have to work your genetics. You've got you've got to work your genetics. So she was given a good hand. She was given a hand. And she worked that hand.
SPEAKER_00And she took care of that hand. You're exactly right. Yes. So yes, it's both things. It's appreciating that you have good genetics, but you have to work the genes.
SPEAKER_01What's something that you think women in their 30s in today's worlds worry about? That we shouldn't. That we shouldn't.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, uh what do you worry about?
SPEAKER_01And I'll tell you if you should work. I am doubtful that we worry about the same things. And I would say I'm gonna this is just gonna come out how it is, but I want to be hot when I'm 40. Did you? Yes. Okay, good. I think most people do. Absolutely. Do you do you wanna be hot when you're 40, Jordan? Okay, yeah. Jonah, Jonah. Jonah, do you wanna be hot when you're Jonah wants to be hot when he's 40? So So yeah, I think that that's uh but do you What are your feelings about us worrying about that? About being hot when we're fine.
SPEAKER_00Okay. In what respect do you worry about it as though I need to get all this cosmetic therapy? Um that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's gonna be pissed when she finds out what I've been looking into. You oh, you're about to lose it on me. You're gonna lose it. Maybe we'll save that. We're gonna save that for season two. Wait for season two. Honestly, if it happens between now and then, there might not be a season two. She might not talk to me. She might not talk to me. Just wait. We're not gonna talk. We'll just the point is that's something that I worry about. I want to be hot when I'm 40. But you know, uh, that being said, I also um want to make sure that I'm exemplifying a good foundation of our marriage and relationships for my kids. So like I want them to see me uh in a good, healthy, relationship relationship with Blake and friends because that's how they learn to work out absolutely their problems. And oh, this one too.
SPEAKER_00Uh, I think those are great words.
SPEAKER_01Worries, yeah, you're doing good with the worry department. And this one I'm sure you worry about for me. But know that I will always figure it out. Know that I will always figure it out is my job is a very unique job, but I'd say anybody who owns a business, you you always wonder how that business will evolve over time. And I guess that's something that I worry about.
SPEAKER_00That's such a big responsibility. I just don't even know how you do it. That's so hard, Jen. You're in a tough business. Yeah, but I just keep the ball rolling. I I will say I am very, very impressed with how you handle that. You handle your stress with your job amazing. I never see it. I never see it taken out on your kids. I never see it taken out on Blake, although you take out other stuff on Blake, not that. Um, you are just always so confident and so looking forward to your next adventure that you're more focused on that than what if it doesn't work? And I love that quality about you. Yeah. That is a great quality to have.
SPEAKER_01And what's so funny is Blake and I are opposite in that in that aspect. Like Blake is more logical. Blake is logical. And I am the I am the perfect example of have you have you seen that meme about people um about insults that you don't even realize they're an insult because it's so okay, so I am, I love how you don't let facts get in the way of your opinions. That is me. Because I I'm like, what are you talking about? Like, of course this is gonna work. And they're like, well, according to XYZ, this happens when X, and I'm like, oh, well, it's still gonna work. Like, we will figure it out. We will figure it out. Wouldn't you say that, Jordan? That it's it's not, I'm like, oh, I like that quality.
SPEAKER_00I like that quality about you.
unknownThanks.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I don't have to live with you like Blake does, so it makes it a little easier. What is something you love about getting older?
SPEAKER_00Gosh.
SPEAKER_01Um, what do I love about getting older? You told me the other day. You said that you love that you don't care what people think anymore.
SPEAKER_00Uh, I don't. Well, that's not true.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes I still do.
SPEAKER_00So I I no, I still do when you said that. I did say that. Remember, you were like, you were like, I love that like I just I'll tell you what I love about getting older, and you just made me think of this. What? Uh when I was younger, when I was in my 20s, and I moved out to California, had no car, no job, had to start all I rode the bus. Can you even imagine? I know you never. Right. No scene.
SPEAKER_01When I did ride the bus, the few times that I ever had to ride the bus, the only way that I could do it is if I had a friend with me, or I would ride the bus for hours because I didn't know when what stop to get off at.
SPEAKER_00I would literally ride the bus to the beach if I wanted to go there or to the mall, and then I had to find a job that was on the bus route. All right. But I think about all that now, and I think about that sense of adventure and how I just made it work because there was no other choice. It's like this is gonna happen. And in a sense, you're kind of like the same way. And so now as I get older, I look back at that and I think, I don't want to lose that sense of adventure. I don't want to lose that sense of, hey, I'm gonna make it work. So I think that's what I love about getting older is that being.
SPEAKER_01I can definitely present some adventures to you if you would like.
SPEAKER_00But I have a feeling it's gonna cost me. The adventure is going to cost me more. I can give you some risks and some adventures. Monetarily and my soul. I'm sure it will cost me both. Um, but that is what I love about getting older is being able to look at what you've accomplished and then pull on that when you need it and not let not let yourself get into um, oh, I'm scared. I don't want to do that. Hey, you did it when you were younger and you pulled through. Keep it going.
SPEAKER_01Right, yeah. Well, you know, I I wasn't actually gonna bring this up, but now that you say that you want to keep that sense of adventure and risk. You didn't use the word risk, but I'm gonna give that to you that I think that goes along with adventure. Is I actually have a proposition for you. I Jordan. Is it gonna cost me money? Is it gonna the best money you ever spent? The best money you ever spent. Because guess what? The other day, this was this was maybe three weeks ago, it was a cloudy morning, and Brooks had overslept, Blake and back had already left for school, and I had to bring Brooks to school. And you know, sometimes when he wakes up, he's angry, right? So I was like, how am I gonna make him in a good mood this morning? Because it's like gloomy outside. And do you remember, do you remember when my mom would come in the room and she would sing, Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory? So I I thought I was like, you know how, you know how I have my gratitude journal? Yes, and just because I read it. Yeah. And that's for adults, right? Yes. But I was like, how am I going to instill this in my children? Which you know every night we talk about things we're grateful for, say that we had a good day, you know, how the day can be even better tomorrow. But I came up with the idea to write a children's book, and it's gonna be called Rise and Shine. Yes, do you love it? Do you want to sponsor it? No, but I love the idea. I think that's your next adventure. Okay, I'm gonna write a children's book. It's called Rise and Shine. It's called Rise and Shine, and it's about the sun. Well, you are a writer. You could do this. I know I'm a writer, and now you are gonna help me be that writer. Don't you love to help your children chase their dreams? I do. This is our your next adventure. Okay, so the sun is in the sky, obviously. Yes. And he's talking to a flower down below. Okay, and the flower is looking for him, but the flower can't see him because it's a cloudy day. Oh, and it's a cloudy, heavy day, and the sun is having trouble shining through. And so the flower reminds the sun, like, oh, well, when I'm having trouble. You're waiting, you're giving your idea away. Okay, you're right. Let's save that for season two. When after you have already sponsored the book is out. Okay, but it's really good. I've already written the whole book, FYI.
SPEAKER_00I I Jenny. Thank you. You again thank you. Before I was just clapping for my adopted daughters, and now And now you want to adopt me. Yes. You have just rose in the ranks, my friend.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I'm gonna take that as the yes. I already have a contract written out for you for this uh adventure.
SPEAKER_00Bring it to my agent. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I will I will have your agent look over it uh very soon. Okay, let's get back on track about this episode because we have more to discuss. What is a wellness trend that confuses you?
SPEAKER_00It's gotta be the GLP. That confuses you? It it doesn't so much yes, and I'll tell you why it confuses me. Because I feel a wellness trend, if you truly want to uh to uh have health and fitness throughout your life, you have to do something that you're gonna continue. You literally say that every time. But it doesn't change, Jen. I can't change it. I can't change it. And so that concerns me. Are you going to take this medicine the rest of your life? Uh well, but the point is, is it's a kickstart.
SPEAKER_01It's a kickstart. It's to s it's to reset you. And like I said, life changing changed my life.
SPEAKER_00Changed my life. Okay. Well, you asked me something that confused me. That is my concern. My concern is that it's so easy to do. Why not boom do it? And then maybe a year later, oh, let me do it again, as opposed to being consistent with healthy eating and working out.
SPEAKER_01So that's that's I know that you're not a part of this episode, but what's a wellness trend that confuses you? Is it all the peptides and everything? Yeah, I this is so funny. My friend who gets peptides from from like okay, so you know how anybody can sell peptides. Anyone can sell peptides. I know, okay, okay, okay. This is really funny. So she gets it. It saddens me more than any. She said that she gets peptides from this lady, and her husband had to go pick it up for her, and he like went to go pick it up, and it was like, it's like in her mailbox, and he goes and gets it out of the mailbox, and he's like, I'm not gonna say her name, so I'm gonna call her uh Betty. Betty. He was like, Betty, you're literally gonna die from this. Like, this is so sketchy, and she goes, at least I'll fit in my coffin. Okay, that is funny.
SPEAKER_00I thought that was so funny. Okay, that is funny. But uh yeah, listen, everyone wants to circumvent the hardware. Everybody wants to what? Circumvent the hard work. Go around is that a word? Oh. Oh my god. You sure you're gonna write a book? Yes, the children's book. Jordan's book. Okay, please edit the book. Um, everyone wants to shortcut the hard work. That I just I don't see a way around.
SPEAKER_01Let's work, let's work smarter, not harder. All right. Let's work smarter, not harder. All right. What is something that um what's what's something that my generation takes way too seriously?
SPEAKER_00Well, I would have to say this this gentle parenting thing has maybe gone. Let me finish. Let me finish. We need to find a good middle ground. There is some good to it, but I also feel there's a little craziness. Like when you are telling little Tay Tay or whatever names people are giving these kids these days, when you're telling little Tay Tay, all right, let's come to the table. Yes, one foot in front of the other, keep going, we're doing good. And let's talk about the table when you get there so you're not triggered. Now, on the table. Oh, what Tay Tay, you need to rest for a second. Okay, we'll pause for a moment. You mommy's got all the time in the world. All right, finally, little Tay Tay continues one foot in front of the other. He makes it to the table. Now, let's talk about what's in front of him. There may be some green things, and let's discuss those green things because some could be poisoned, some could make you strong. Which ones do we pick? And we gotta make a game. That's exhausting.
SPEAKER_01It is exhausting. It is a and you know what? I was reading actually that like millennial moms are exhausted because we do that to ourselves because we wanna, because we wanna be better. We wanna be, we wanna break those trauma that we gave y'all by saying come sit down and eat dinner.
unknownThat was okay.
SPEAKER_01Come sit down and eat dinner. Wait, no, no, but Jordan, what's the difference between there's gentle parenting and then what's the other word called? Because I see this argument a lot on Instagram. Authoritative parenting. So there's a difference between the two, which we're not even gonna get into because at the end of the day, it's not that I have chosen to be a gentle parent, is that it's that I'm a gentle person. I don't yell, I don't raise my voice. I and that's just how I am. That's how I communicate with adults, and so that's how I communicate with the kids. Not to say that I have never yelled at my kids. I have, but that's just not how I it's not how I typically communicate. I think you do a great job, though. So I I just try to speak to them in the way that I would speak to an adult. In fact, you know, they were saying that at work, you give people your patience all day, and then you get home and your toddler wants something and you lose it on them because you've lost your patience, but you wouldn't do that to somebody at work, you know. So why are you doing that to a toddler who literally hasn't even learned patience?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but there's a difference in Tay Tay, let's sit down and have dinner, than you know, it being 15 minutes to get Tay there. Not only that, but what is Tay's boss going to do when Tay gets older? What did you tell me one time? You said, Mom, as a teenager, I would never have wanted to hire me. Now that I know You still would never hire me.
SPEAKER_01Literally, nobody should ever hire me. You could contract me. You could contract me, but don't hire me to be your employee. I am the worst employee. And I why? Why am I such a bad employee?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. But my point with that is is that, you know, we we don't need to be that gentle. Everything does not need to be a gentle.
SPEAKER_01You were a gentle parent. Would you would you say that she was a gentle parent? C. Look at that. Oh, she just gave me a game. Look at you making fun. The only time you weren't gentle is when you were when you were like leaned up against the wall with the AC. My mom, let me tell you, everyone, she keeps, even to this day, she keeps the house on 75. Oh, no, no, no, I'm down to 75. Well, probably menopause have menopause has brought you down to 75. But it was at 78. Easily it can go back. And when my friends would come over, which Jordan's here right now, we would go turn it down in the middle of the night and then find out about it. We would we would hear her in the hallway and we would walk in and she'd be like posted up in her little nightgown with her arm on the wall. Who touched this? Who touched the AC?
SPEAKER_00And I would also take the cell phones away, too. And she took the cell phones away.
SPEAKER_01But you know, that is what that's what kept me motivated and persistent was I don't let things get in my way of what I want. If I wanted that cell phone, I was gonna army crawl into your bedroom. Which you did. Send a text message, army crawl back out, army crawl back in. If I hear a movement, I lay down. I'm asleep. I wake up, I finish the text, I'm asleep. And look at the person that's made you today. A bad employee, but a great business owner. A great business owner. This, I you know, I wrote these questions earlier, and I wrote down that I feel like this has nothing to do with what we're talking about, but let's ask it anyway. What is your most unhinged diet memory?
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_00Oh, wait, you told me I did, I did. But okay, so think about it. Back in college, and you do these crazy things because, right? You want to lose 10 pounds for the weekend. And it's and it's Friday now. That's right. And you want to and you want to lose it by Friday night. Um, and at that age, you can do some pretty crazy things and lose the weight. So it's successful. You think this is gonna work. Don't ask me where we got this from, but it was the three of us. Mitzi, if you're probably not listening to this, but I apologize because I'm gonna say something. So it was Mitzi, me, and I don't remember the third person, but Mitz and I were roommates. It was this strange diet, it was a three-day diet, so it was perfect because it was probably actually a Wednesday. It was 12 bananas, 12 bold eggs, and 12 hot dogs. Now, when I say hot dogs.
SPEAKER_01She's the person who's judging DLP1.
SPEAKER_00When I say hot dogs, I don't mean the delicious bun and maybe some um mustard and all that to go in it. No, it was just the wiener. You! It was disgusting. It was disgusting. I don't even know if we were able to cook it, but you sure couldn't put anything on it. Okay. So first you started with the bananas, which is fine. You go buy a bunch of bananas at the store. You can scarf that down, 12 of them. We probably didn't get all 12 because we were discussing. Then it had to be a boiled egg. It could not be eggs cooked 12 different ways. No. Boiled egg every single time. And then finally, which we made it through that stage. But when we got to that last day, the hot dogs, and we were in the kitchen looking at this disgusting thing, which I don't even know if you could boil it. I don't, I think it had to be raw. I don't know what the stipulations were, but we were gagging. And I think maybe that's how you lost weight because you just couldn't do it and you threw up. Um, but literally by the time we got to the third one, Mitz was trying to put that thing away and and just totally threw up all over the kitchen and the sink and everywhere. And so that that I think we lost the weight. This is worse than the vagina whisper episode with you. Okay. Well, anyway, that was that was something that I remember. Obviously, you'll never forget. And to this day, sometimes when I look at that hot dog, I will think of Mitzi. I think about Mitzi. Poor Mitzi in the kitchen. I don't think she taught dogs. Well, me too.
SPEAKER_01But I only have it on like special holidays. Like I love a hot dog on the 4th of July. I love a hot dog in one. I haven't had a hot dog in a really long time. Well, yeah, when you have the bun and the mustard and the chili and everything and let's have hot dogs this weekend. Okay. I'll try. To lose weight. I'll try my best. I'll bring the bananas and the eggs. Um, okay. Well, you know, we're talking about uh image of our bodies and and and crazy diets, but how would you say that your your view of your body or your perspective of your body changed after you had kids?
SPEAKER_00I don't think I viewed it any different except to say that it was pretty amazing uh that your body could produce this child. I think it changed more while I was pregnant because while I was pregnant, I felt the responsibility of developing this child and doing everything.
SPEAKER_01Did everything you were supposed to do.
SPEAKER_00Well, let me tell you, I tried. So I did not have diet coke. Wow. Yeah, no sweet and low. I did not do any sweet and low, and I did not do any caffeine. And I had you, and you were extremely active. Yeah. So where did that what happened? So then with my second. Were you drinking something else? So so I would say my body changed more when I got pregnant. I was just more um aware of the fact that I have this child growing in me and I want to do everything I can to give.
SPEAKER_01That was why I said I was able to do the gestational diabetes diet better whenever I was pregnant. It's different when you don't when you're not growing a child.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So it changed more while pregnant than after, after I did you? Did you feel that you did you no?
SPEAKER_01Wait till season two. Wait till season two, and we will talk about the way that I view my body. But what matters to you more? What matters to you more now than appearance? We talked about, you know, we want to be hot when we're 40. You're not 40 anymore. So what matters to you now?
SPEAKER_00Well, I generally want to be hot?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Yes. You don't, I you don't ever stop caring about it. You don't ever stop caring about your looks. And I will tell you, Lolo at the age of 91, oh yeah, will still say you can always find time to put on mascara and lipstick. I love that. So at 910. Do you feel like you care about your looks at the airport? No, the airport's different. The airport I'm trying to survive and catch my flight and get seated and all that. No, no. The airport's off limits to appearances. Okay. But at 91, she still cares about her appearance. She looks good every day. She gets up, gets dressed, dresses nicely, does her hair, does makeup every single day at 91. So I don't think you ever really stop caring about your appearance. Now, what's maybe more important uh would probably be staying strong because you want to stay healthy enough that you're able to get up. You're able to get up in the morning and put on makeup and look nice and get dressed and bend down and put on your shoes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So those things probably become more important.
SPEAKER_01Let's talk about what we learned from season one. What surprised you the most about starting this podcast? I'll start. I'll start. Okay. Well, it didn't surprise me, but you were very difficult to work with.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Well, it didn't surprise you.
SPEAKER_01It didn't. It didn't. You you complain. And you know what? Jordan, Jordan recently was asking, she's like, what's all like, what's staged? I'm like, literally nothing, because she doesn't prepare. You don't prepare. You call me like 20 minutes before, you're like, Did you do the note cards? Did you do the note cards? You make yourself random note. There's there, you and then, and then so you're not prepared. But if I'm five minutes late, you're you're mad at me. You're mad at me. Uh I yeah, so that uh I was yeah, I guess it didn't surprise me, but it just confirmed. It confirmed. What you always knew. Yeah. Okay. What's the point?
SPEAKER_00What were you surprised? I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I was surprised at how much I And how much I uh learned and valued from the guests that we had. Yes.
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_00Um I i yeah, I don't want to get too dramatic here and say it changed me. But I would definitely say I d uh understood and got a better appreciation for what people go through and how they handle it. And I think that surprised me the most. So and and how much I enjoyed doing this. I know, I know I didn't show you. Nobody knows.
SPEAKER_01You couldn't tell, but thank you for saying that.
SPEAKER_00You're welcome.
SPEAKER_01Uh what was the funniest moment for you?
SPEAKER_00Oh, the funniest moment for me. Ah, the funniest moment. Maybe the fact that I learned I have been going to the bathroom wrong all these years. I was never correctly potty trained.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was gonna say it's never correctly potty trained. I was gonna say that the vagina whisper was probably the funniest episode. So if you haven't listened to that one, definitely go back and listen to that. Bathroom correctly. Which she tells you everybody needs a squatty potty.
SPEAKER_00And now I think about it every single time. Now, sometimes, I'm sorry, Diane, I'm still in a rush. And who's Diane? Oh. I'm sorry. Who's Diane? Sarah? Sarah.
SPEAKER_01Don't ask me where I got Diane from. All right, Sarah. And here you are saying that these guests have changed, you know, you can't remember their name. It changed. You know, I was gonna say that the vagina whisper was the funniest episode, but I don't know, then today's surprised us with wieners.
SPEAKER_00So well, anyway, uh, so back to Sarah. Yes, learning, she really taught me that, and that is something that can help me the rest of my life. And it was one small thing that is gonna be huge.
SPEAKER_01And uh, do you feel like you've been thinking do you think about her when you pee now?
SPEAKER_00I do, yeah, every time. And I think about it. I've been thinking about her for years, and I think about that video that she posted of her walking to the bathroom and sitting down on the toy and leaning forward. And it's a great visual because you think about it and you do it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think it's gonna be a help. This question you already answered, so I'll say it's it's what episode impacted you the most emotionally. And obviously, Emily and Nicole's stories were very impactful and stay with you. I would say from Emily's obviously learning how to better cherish family moments and uh the motivation to keep going. And then from Nicole's is just the the bravery that she had to be pregnant and to say, I'll take twins.
SPEAKER_00I'll take twins, I will take someone else's children who cannot raise them at this time, and I will care for them as my own. I just don't think there's And I I in both in both those stories, Emily's and Nicole's, uh the story of giving to others and doing the right thing in a very the right thing for other people in a very, very hard and difficult time. Emily, when you know all she wanted to do was shut off to the world. Instead, she did she stayed present for her kids. And Nicole could have easily done the same thing and said, I just want to focus on my pregnancy on me. But these twins needed her and she was there for them.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that gift to those children to me is just above and beyond uh Yeah, and it's inspiring because I I've always wanted to adopt and then hearing her story like it only makes me want to adopt more and feel like I could do it. If she could be pregnant and take on twins, like I can have my two children who, you know, in a few years from now, then take on. I would love to I don't I want to take twins. You think I can handle twins? No. Okay. No. Okay. Uh what did listeners respond to the most? Do you know the answer to that? Yeah. It was the leash. Very heated discussion about the leash.
SPEAKER_00Oh good lord, you act like I duct taped you. Jimmy, I put a leash on you to keep you from going with another family to Titan. I think you need to thank me for that. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01What's funny is a lot of people really like the leash. They like the leash. They're all about it. They're all about it. And you're here today, probably because of it. The leash, yeah. Well, you didn't tell them though, about the time whenever, I don't know if you know this story. I was in the shower. Okay, everyone needs to know that I have I am deathly afraid of roaches and bugs. Okay. And back in the day, everybody had a fly square in their house.
SPEAKER_00So afraid, no, so afraid that when she had a roach in her house, she called the exterminator company. He came and got it. No one does that, Jenny.
SPEAKER_01That is not you don't get what you don't ask for. You don't get what you don't ask for. If you don't ask for somebody to come get that roach from your house, they're coming. I guarantee you they have never gotten a call like that. All right, but they got it. Continue on. They got the roach. I'm in the shower. My mom sneaks into the bathroom with the fly swatter that we had just killed a roach with, and she puts it over the top of the shower and puts it all in there. Oh my god. And then she couldn't breathe. I was you losing it. And it was the, it was it's a type of, you know, it was a real shower curtain. And so, like, I'm like ripping down the shower curtain.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that was one of the best.
SPEAKER_01That's not very gentle. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Do you know what I wish though? What? I wish we would have had cell phones back in the day. So you could have filmed that happening. And I could rewatch it. I know.
SPEAKER_01I wish we could re-watch moments like that as well.
SPEAKER_00But just the memory's good enough. I'll take the memory now.
SPEAKER_01Well, people already know that they need to come back for season two to find out why you're probably gonna disown me and to hear how the book goes because we're gonna, I have already written a children's book and now you are going to sponsor that. We're very excited. But then other things that they have to look forward to is we're gonna talk about friendship in the next season. We're gonna talk about friendship. We're gonna bring friends on. There's a friend here today, as she's just she's our live audience today. Yeah, she's our live audience. And this is a friend that I've had since the fourth grade. I, my other best friend I've had since the first grade, I talk to them every day, but I also love new friends. I I love talking about friendship. And well, it's gosh, it's so important, Ginny.
SPEAKER_00What do they always say at the end of life? It is, it's a part of your mental health. It is a huge part of your mental health at all stages of your life. People, social, friends, a huge, a huge part on your health. Yeah. So I just said that.
SPEAKER_01Thanks for repeating me. Um so you can look forward to that. All right, we're gonna do a quick lightning round. Favorite episode. Lightning. Oh, lightning. Jin, pick in, gin, pick it. Jin, I can't. I can't question. Funniest moment. Wiener. Most emotional guest. Emily. Who cried the most? Oh, you did. I did. Who interrupted the most? Me. You did. Favorite margarita episode moment. I would say probably at the end when we realized that we kept messing everything up and we were talking about parenting and motherhood, and we're like, oh my god, this is embarrassing. And we haven't had margaritas on the episode since. That was a one little treat. Yes. If you've never listened to episode four, uh, pour yourself a margarita and have a listen. Always fun to try something different. Yes. And there's a lot to look forward to in season two. If this season taught us anything, it's that none of us are meant to do to do life alone. And whether we're talking about motherhood, health, friendship, grief, or joy, there's so much power in women simply showing up for each other, which is, I think, exactly what this season was about. Yes. And now season two is gonna be about friendship. Our tribe. Our tribe. That's a new word from you. You've never said that before.
SPEAKER_00Well, we're gonna have some new things on season two.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna have some new things on season two. If, like I said, if there is a season two, because my mom still doesn't even know.
SPEAKER_00So I may not have a daughter in season two, is what you're saying.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Well, I have a daughter, I have four of them, but yes. I might be down to three.
SPEAKER_01We might be down to three. But I get to keep the grandkids, right? Do you have do you have anything you want to share before we close out season two? The only thing I believe. Season one season one.
SPEAKER_00I got you. Is that I think the theme for me was as women, we can do hard things. Oh yes. I really picked that up from everybody that we had and everything that we did. We can do hard things.
SPEAKER_01And I like that. Well, I can't say it any better than that, but I can say thank you to all of our amazing listeners who made this such a great experience. I loved hearing from everybody when they would reach out about listening after each episode. And to all of our guests, our incredible guests who made this season what it was.
SPEAKER_00And were willing to come on here and share their stories and their soul with us.
SPEAKER_01A huge thank you to Jonah from Lettuce Media who put up with us, who put up with us. And this was our first time. And coached us through it. Coached us through it. So we're coached us. We're just this was a really incredible experience. It truly was, Jill. The whole thing.
SPEAKER_00This was very cool to do with you. And I'm glad that we shared this adventure together.
SPEAKER_01And I'm looking forward to season two. If you just can't wait for us until then, you can get some hot mama merch. I've got these hot mama hats, hot mama sweatshirts, I've got them on my website. And don't forget that most of the joy you experience in life is the joy you choose to see. So get out there, soak up those moments, and keep showing up as the hot mamas you truly are. Thanks for listening.
