Scattered Moments
Brief reflections on faith, adversity, and the quiet places where grace appears.
Each episode of Scattered Moments is a brief journey through the unexpected classrooms where God does His deepest work — hospital rooms and sanctuaries, seasons of grief and flashes of joy, the ordinary moments where grace shows up and changes everything.
Drawing from over forty years of writing, ministry, and life in the trenches, Matt Tullos weaves together original poetry, hymn stories, Scripture, and honest reflection to remind you that even adversity, you are not alone.

Tonight’s guided meditation is a quiet invitation to rest in the peace and presence of God.
As the day comes to a close, many of us carry anxious thoughts, unfinished conversations, burdens for people we love, and worries about tomorrow. But Scripture reminds us that sleep itself is one of God’s mercies — a nightly reminder that we are safely held in His care.
Drawing from Psalm 4:8 and Psalm 127:2, this meditation gently guides you toward stillness, gratitude, surrender, and peaceful sleep.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
Find a quiet place, breathe deeply, release the weight of the day, and allow your heart to rest in the faithfulness of God.
Take care,
Notice the scattered moments,
and share the grace.

Good evening, friend, and welcome to another edition of Scattered Moments Meditations. Tonight, before you sleep, before the house grows completely quiet, before your thoughts begin wandering through tomorrow's burdens, let us for a few moments rest in the presence of God. The world teaches us to keep striving, keep scrolling, keep worrying, keep rehearsing every unfinished conversation and every possible outcome. But Scripture gives us another invitation, an older invitation, a quieter one. In peace I will lie down and sleep. For you alone, Lord, will make me dwell in safety. He gives sleep to those he loves. Sleep is not merely a biological necessity. It is one of God's daily mercies. Each night we surrender control, we close our eyes to a world we cannot hold together anyway. And somehow, by grace, the sun rises again. Perhaps tonight your mind feels crowded. Perhaps your heart feels heavy. Perhaps there are things unresolved. But for the next few moments, you do not have to solve anything. You are simply invited to rest. Take a slow breath in and slowly let it out. Again, breathe in the kindness of God and release the weight you were never meant to carry alone. One more time, breathe in peace and let your shoulders soften, your hands open. Imagine yourself sitting quietly on a country porch just before nightfall. The air is cool, the cicadas sing softly in the distance. A gentle breeze moves through the trees. And beside you rests a warm cup of coffee or tea. And an open Bible sits nearby, its pages softly stirring in the evening air. Nothing is demanding your attention right now. No alarms, no deadlines, noise. Only the quiet awareness that God is near. Listen again to these words of Scripture. In peace I will lay down and sleep. Not in fear, not in striving, not in panic, in peace. True peace is not found in having complete control over life. True peace comes from trusting the one who holds your life securely even while you sleep. The same God who watches over oceans, who keeps planets in motion, who remembers the sparrow, will remain awake while you rest. You are not carrying tomorrow tonight. God will still be God while you sleep. Now quietly place before Him the things that are troubling you, the conversation you replay, the uncertainty ahead, the people you love, the grief you carry, the questions without answers, one by one, release them. Not because they are unimportant, but because God is faithful. Breathe slowly again, inhale, and release the grace of this moment. Exhale. And let the tension leave your body. Feel the bed beneath you. Feel the steadiness of this moment. You do not need to rush. You do not need to prove anything tonight. You are loved by God. And the scripture says He gives sleep to those he loves. And as you continue resting tonight, may the peace of Christ guard your heart and your mind. May anxious thoughts grow quiet. May your breathing slow. May your soul remember that you belong to God. And when morning comes, may you rise again, strengthen by his mercy. Sleep now in peace. Take care. And share the grace.
