Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this guided meditation from Scattered Moments, we step quietly into the shelter of Psalm 91 and listen again to the gentle promise of God’s presence in anxious times.
Fear has a way of tightening the soul and filling the mind with endless “what ifs,” but Scripture reminds us that we were never meant to carry those burdens alone. Through slow reflection, breath, prayer, and the comforting words of Psalm 91, this meditation invites you into a place of stillness beneath the shadow of the Almighty.
Perfect for moments of anxiety, sleeplessness, stress, or simply a quiet pause in the middle of a busy day.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1
Take a few moments to breathe deeply, rest quietly, and remember:
God is near.
God is your refuge.
You are held.
Hello and welcome to another Scattered Moments Meditation. Today we rest beneath the shelter of Psalm 91, a psalm written for anxious hearts, for weary minds, for those carrying fears they cannot quite name. Fear has a way of tightening the body. It shortens the breath. It keeps the mind racing long after the day is done. But Scripture invites us into another place. Not denial, not pretending troubles do not exist, but refuge. Psalm 91 begins this way. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty, not merely visiting God occasionally, but dwelling there, remaining there, resting there. For the next few moments, allow yourself to slow down. If possible, loosen your shoulders, unclinch your jaw, place your feet gently on the floor. Rest your hands open in your lap. Take a slow breath in and release it. Again, breathe in deeply and let the exhib just a little longer. As you breathe, imagine yourself stepping away from the noise for a moment. Away from the headlines, away from the pressure, away from the endless rehearsing of what if. You do not have to solve everything right now. You are held. A refuge is a shelter during a storm. A fortress is a place that stands when everything else shakes. And God offers Himself to you as both. Perhaps your fears are about the future. Perhaps they are about health, family, finances, aging, grief, or loneliness. Fear often wonders, what if God doesn't come through? But Psalm 91 gently answers, He already surrounds you. The Psalm says, He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge. What tender language. The Almighty is not described here as distant or cold, but as near, protective, attentive, like a bird sheltering her young beneath her wings during the storm. For a few moments now, simply rest there. No striving, no performing, no defending yourself. Just rest. If distracting thoughts come, do not fight them harshly. Simply let them drift past and quietly return your attention to this truth. God is near. God is my refuge. I am held. Breathe slowly again. Inhale peace. Exhale fear. Inhale the presence of God. Exhale the burden you were never meant to carry alone. Psalm 91 reminds us that fear does not have the final word. Not because life is easy, but because God remains faithful. The Lord is my refuge. Say it quietly in your heart if you wish. The Lord is my refuge. One more slow breath, and now receive this blessing. May the Lord quiet your anxious thoughts. May He steady your weary soul. May you rest beneath the shadow of the Almighty. And may fear lose its grip on you. Remember that you are never alone.
