Hi, audience. How are y'all doing tonight? I am here with a special guest. Um, her name is Rebecca, and she is here to tell an account of something that happened to her, and I want her to give you all the details. I'm not gonna spoil it. So without further ado, shh, it's gonna be okay. Rebecca, take it away.
SPEAKER_00Hey listeners, um, I'm so glad to be here. Um, I'm going to tell you guys um an account of something that happened to me years ago. Um, it was while I was living in Virginia. My husband was out on an underway or a deployment of some kind with the military, and um I was in my bedroom sleeping, and I get woken up to the sound of like it sounded like paws running across the floor, and I wake up and I look out my door to expecting my dogs to come in, and the sound stops, and I close my eyes again and I think about it, and both of my dogs are currently on the bed with me, and so I get start getting a little bit scared, and then I hear the sound again, and it's running faster, and I start freaking out, my head is underneath the blanket, and I'm just terrified. I have no idea what this could be, but it's not my dogs, and then I feel something jump up onto my bed and come up on top of me and rip the blanket down, and there's this giant wolf on top of me, and it's staring at me, and then it transforms into this thing that looks like a man, but not quite, and it says, I'm coming, I'm coming to get you. Oh my god. And that that happened, that happened to me. I've never heard this story before. I didn't I've never told you this story. No, that is terrifying. And yeah, this happened when we were living in Virginia, and we did a ghost tour while we were out there, and um the guy asked if anyone had any supernatural things happen to them. And my friend Katie was telling about how she thinks she can see ghosts and stuff, and I mentioned how I had this dream, and they mentioned, well, what if it isn't a dream? And that they mentioned skinwalkers, and that's where it lands us now to talk about skinwalkers.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, that is terrifying. I had no idea about this. By the way, this is my daughter. Um that is so. What does John think? What does John think happened?
SPEAKER_00Uh he has no idea. He he uh he obviously has his beliefs and stuff. Um, like you did the episode about La Lorona, and he refuses to even speak her name because he grew up, he's Hispanic, he grew up hearing that story, fearing it, and thinking that she was gonna come and take him. Like that was a fear brought into him growing up Hispanic. Yeah, so he believes that it could be something, but obviously there's it's not one of those things where you're not completely sure if it was true, right? Or if it was all just a dream.
SPEAKER_01Okay, now that you you're older now since that happened, do you feel it really happened? Or like not not really. I know you feel it really happened, but I mean, do you feel it was a dream, or was this an actual skinwalker that jumped on you saying, I'm feeling I'm coming for you?
SPEAKER_00Uh after doing some research on them, I honestly couldn't even tell you. I still feel like it was probably a dream, but nothing I read mentioned anything like that being able to get into like your head space. But based on what I was researching, they were like you know, supernatural, had supernatural abilities to shape shift and everything. So who's to say they couldn't also have the ability to dream walk?
SPEAKER_01This is true. Okay, so um you lived in Virginia, yes. Um, I this is gonna sound like a naive and dumb question, but uh skinwalkers are from a Navajo tradition. Is where did Navajo live in Virginia? Don't listeners, don't come at me. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00That is actually a good question. I don't know that I don't think I ever saw someone who was Native American there.
SPEAKER_01Okay, let's see. I'm oh that's so funny. I'm gonna research this really fast and see if we can get some answers on it.
SPEAKER_00Um they were not indigenous to Virginia. Okay, they are typically a southwestern United States nation. Um, indigenous groups in Virginia were typically the, excuse my pronunciation, the Powhatan Confederacy, the Iroquoian, and the Siouan, and not the Navajo. They were typically located, the Navajo were typically located in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. Which is crazy because I once lived in New Mexico.
SPEAKER_01You sure did. Um beautiful state. No strange while I lived there though. Well, I mean, I guess if you think about it, the it's a it's basically uh a Navajo medicine man who got into witchcraft and dark magic, correct?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Um they were medicine men who killed someone who was close to them, typically like a family member or something, and gained the supernatural ability to shape shift typically into um a predator of some kind, like a wolf, a bear, or a coyote.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Well, who's to say that maybe you know, a Navajo didn't that's into that, into the dark arts witchcraft, uh, didn't do that and move to Virginia.
SPEAKER_00I guess that is possible.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if you think about it, and then who's to say, like, you were out one day and somehow you offended without intending, you know, or something.
SPEAKER_00Maybe a past customer of mine at Starbucks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think you were the best Starbucks, I I would say so too. In person ever. You were also my most favorite McDonald's worker. So um, now I know there are other things that were mistaken for skimwalkers. We have Windigo's, flesh gates, werewolves, and dogmen, uh, the not deer, which I guess is supposed to it. I don't even know how to describe it. It's like maybe that's the one I was thinking of when I said wear hyenas. Maybe it's the not deer. It looks like a deer, but it's not. Um other shapeshifters, and I think that is what it is, the not deer, because I put it, it's to me the most common. That's the one where everybody goes, Dad deer's legs were backwards, or and I'm not trying to pick fun of anybody.
SPEAKER_00I'm just you know, saying you know, we always when we go to the lake to go out on the boat, there's always a bunch of deer there, and we always have this theory that Captain, our dog, is a um skinwalker, he's just feels human sometimes. Yeah, human but and look at the um deer, and sometimes they just feel like Captain, and we'll just go captain. We'll call out to him, Captain, come here.
SPEAKER_01Do any of them come your way? Unfortunately, no.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'd love a shape-shifting dog. I don't think that's but skinwalkers are supposed to be evil entities and evil supernatural creatures, so yeah, they probably wouldn't actually want my dog to be one.
SPEAKER_01Right. Well, uh so I that's why I say the dog and all that when we're like our dog's a skinwalker, that's probably the not deer. It's probably more like a not deer than anything. Um let's see. Uh okay, so we need to be careful because in Navajo uh tradition or the community, uh, this topic is tied to death, taboo, and community harm. So they really do consider it inappropriate or dangerous to just discuss this casually or with outsiders, or in like we're doing entertainment ways. I mean, we're not doing it disrespectfully.
SPEAKER_00Even mentioned that sometimes they don't even talk about it amongst themselves because it makes the appearance of skinwalkers all the more likely to sh happen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yes, that's what I that's what I understand as well. Um, it's basically inappropriate in their culture to discuss this at all for entertainment purposes.
SPEAKER_00Um well it's just hopefully that's not what that dream is talking about. Just happening, and now I'm gonna get no, you're not.
SPEAKER_01You don't say that. You're gonna come live with your mother, pack the kids up, get John. You come live with mommy now, it's gonna be okay. But um, if you want, you can tell uh our listeners where you got your information besides uh actual life events.
SPEAKER_00Um, I did a lot of research. Um, I even was reading up on um the uh uh Skinwalker Ranch, which is located in Utah, that um apparently has lots of sightings and um thoughts and paranormal investigators and everything about if there being UFOs and skinwalkers and all sorts of happenings out there, but it got its namesake Skinwalker Ranch because of the thing, but uh because of the sightings of skinwalkers. But um I found my research from folklore.usc.edu um and blogs.w.edu and equip.org and all that's interesting.com. Very good.
SPEAKER_01Um, I got my information from beyondhaunted.com, of course, Wikipedia, www.918files.com, uh, Reddit, TikTok, mythos and let mythos and legends.fandom.com. Uh so this is, I mean, you can search anywhere and search this stuff up, and just about everywhere tells you the same thing. Uh what I have to say is don't just go into this subject lightly. It is serious. This is uh this is uh part of someone's tradition, yes, and culture, and you need to show respect. So I don't find it funny. I don't, I mean, I might laugh, but I'm laughing nervously. Like this is my child that this happened to, and I don't know why. She doesn't know why, and I'm praying it was just a dream. So um, so anybody out there who's listening, just be careful with this. Uh, remember to become a subscriber. Uh, a paid subscriber gets to tell your creepy story in your voice on the podcast. So don't forget that. And if you become a founding member, you get to collaborate with a guest interview and send in your questions, and you'll get the credit for it. We'll be like, This question is from Rebecca in Texas, or this question is from so-and-so, and so you'll get the credit for whatever. Join as a group of three or more, and you get a 20% discount. So we'd love to have you. Uh, Rebecca, thank you for doing this with me.
SPEAKER_00Of course. I'm always happy. Um, I know that you always love to mention um books and movies, and I have a couple for you.
SPEAKER_01Awesome. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um, there is a book called Hunt for the Skinwalker by Colm A. Keller, and there is also a documentary by the same name, uh, directed by Jeremy Corbell. And um, I'm not sure what streaming platform the Skinwalker Ranch is on, but you can watch the documentary or docuseries. I'm don't remember which one it is.
SPEAKER_01I want to say documentary.
SPEAKER_00Um, but you can watch the Skinwalker Ranch as well to learn the history of that ranch and how the Skinwalkers relate to it.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I want to say it's on Prime. I have watched part of the first season, I believe.
SPEAKER_00And there's someone seen it all the way through like four times.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow, there's some sketchy stuff on there. I'm like, you're playing with stuff you shouldn't be playing with, man. But I don't think people take this supernatural, creepy stuff serious enough. So we had kids, well, I'm not gonna tell you where I work, but we had there were I had run into some kids and they were talking about doing seances, and don't be surprised if there's a demon in the forest, dudes, stop. So all righty. Well, I will uh let you go. Thank you for having me. Thank you for being here, and I love you, baby. Love you too. Okay, and remember our listeners, shh, it's gotta be out there.
