Many things have been happening over the past few weeks, several of which have impacted our planning/recording time. Jess and Hids are both deep in the process of starting college classes in August and preparation for that has burned up our brain space.
This episode is a quick little get-to-know-us session! This might not be new for those of you who also listen to our other podcast, J&H Make a Podcast, but we know we also have many new listeners that only know us from this podcast!
We will be back NEXT WEEK, August 8th, with our regular episode where we will be catching up with Fizzz and seeing where her journey will take her next! (Hint: it's not going to get her any closer to Bang.)
So normally about this time Fizz would be doing a recap.
SPEAKER_00But she's not. But yeah, no, we're not doing that this time. Hi, welcome to A Tale of Two Kobolds. Hi.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02That's uh that was Yep. I'm gonna stop there for the music and then it's gonna be a hard cut because you just started right in there, but that's okay.
SPEAKER_01I forget about the music.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's gotta be it's gotta be someplace to put the the intro music. Welcome to a tale of two cobalt.
SPEAKER_00Again.
SPEAKER_02But this week it's a little different. Yeah. So uh I totally don't have my notes in front of me, so you go for it. I had to go find my notes because I've and like this whole vibe right now is pretty much why we don't have an episode for you today.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so um but I found my notes. Okay, sorry. I close. I'm also using a new uh note system called ellipsis instead of Google Docs.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, oh let's talk about that. It's uh it's great, and it's anti-AI.
SPEAKER_01Anti-AI will not get scrubbed by AI. Yes, like Google Docs. And it's um honestly easier than Google Docs. It kind of is so far. I'm loving it.
SPEAKER_02Um or at least very comparable.
SPEAKER_01Like Google Docs is super easy, but this is like it's also got like it's got a lot of tools for co co-writing, co for collaborating on a document, and like you can also let your beta readers in at a certain level, and it's really cool. I'm excited for it um to move forward with it. So but anyway, anyway, that's that's that's why I couldn't find my notes because I forgot where to look for them. In a shared document, yeah, not your private documents, right? Um, so it's been a little wild this whole month, um, but it's specifically the last two weeks, um, because Jess, we've talked a little bit about Jess going to school for massage therapy. I don't know if we've talked about that. Like nothing. Yeah. Sorry. I'm crossing the streams. Yeah. Don't cross the streams. Okay. So Jess is going to school starting in just a couple weeks for massage therapy. Yay! You said just a couple weeks and I freaked out. I know. That's okay. It's fine. I'm also freaking out because as of today, I am also going to school for a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on illustration. Yay. At the end of August. At the end of August 31st is my end of August for me, too.
SPEAKER_02So not a couple weeks. The 24th is when I start.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh, I said a few weeks because you start before me. Yeah. So in a month from today, I start school. Jess will have been in school for uh a few days. So yeah, it's been a little crazy with all the admissions and the financial aid and uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Trying to figure everything out like work-wise. Yeah, because it's awful.
SPEAKER_01Two podcasts. Yeah. And a tentative third one, maybe. Not ours. Guesting, I guess. I don't know. Um, but anyway, we'll uh we're gonna come, we're yeah, it tomorrow is the first, which uh or well when we're recording this. Yeah. As you listen to this, if you listen to it the day it drops, it's August 1st. And this is not a regular episode.
SPEAKER_02We okay, so like we want to do a sort of get to know us episode. And we know we do have a lot of listeners who also listen to our other podcasts, Jess and Hids make a podcast. And some of this information might be old to you guys because we've done some uh get to know you episodes like Ask Me Anything type vibe episodes on that, and we also just like talk about more of our lives and let more of our personality show through, I guess. Like it's it's more of a conversational podcast and not a like actual play D D podcast. But for the new listeners who might not listen to our other podcast, we hope you uh we hope you like getting to know us a little bit more. Um but yeah, we we have some uh some questions that we're going to answer about ourselves.
SPEAKER_01And we will have a regular episode next week, August the 8th. It will drop on Saturday and we'll get back to Fifths.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so you will still get an episode this month. It's just gonna be a week late. Um, but good news, you have three whole weeks to listen to it before the next one drops in September.
SPEAKER_01So yeah. So uh who are we? Who are we? You go first. Uh hi, um I'm Hids. And um I'm just me. Like, I don't know. I don't want to go first. I hate going first. We take turns on our other podcast to pay based on like card rolls. Card rolls, card draws or dice rolls. And I don't like going first. Okay. So I'll go first.
SPEAKER_02I'm just yeah, I don't know what to say. That's weird. So I'm I'm Jess, and I mute your phone. I I said it out loud when I was muting mine.
SPEAKER_01I wasn't in the room.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you were. You were right there. Otherwise, I wouldn't have said it out loud. Nobody would have been. Anyway. Anyway. Um, so I'm Jess. I am uh I'm I I don't know. I I grew up in a small town and I uh oh man. Do I want to bring age into this? No. I'm in my late 30s, we'll say that. My very, very late 30s, the latest of the 30s that you can get. Shut up. You didn't want to talk about yourself. It's my time. Another thing about me is I am very snarky and sarcastic, and Hids is not. So sometimes it's it's interesting the communications that happen between us.
SPEAKER_01I'm just laughing now. I was not raised with uh sarcasm as a jokey thing. It was uh a mean thing. Yeah, that's wild too. I've learned I've learned I'm I'm I'm trying, okay.
SPEAKER_02I think most people I know like you're sarcastic and snarky with the people that you care about and are close to. It's yeah, yeah, it's it's weird that I've never met anybody who uh grew up the way you did. No, I'm sure you didn't. Um yeah, I um oh gosh, what else do I want to say about myself? Uh yeah, I've as far as like profession, I don't really have one. I've been working a bunch of part-time jobs ever since I dropped out of college, and now I'm going back to school. So that's gonna be fun. Yeah. Yeah. I've got a dog named Cake. Who's gonna be 13 next week? I know. On the day our actual real episode drops, she's gonna be 13 years old.
SPEAKER_01I love her.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. She's adorable. She's a chocolate lab, and I was there the day she was born.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right, your turn. Um, yeah, so I'm Hids. I'm uh just uh a couple years older than Jeff. Um and uh I actually moved to this area um five years ago. But also grew up in a smallish town and uh in the south. In the south. You might recognize that. That's where the that's where Bang's accent comes from. Yeah. Um but yeah, I grew up just in a small town doing just kind of I've always done just little part-time jobs. Um, I had one full-time job that I really, really liked for eight years. And when that ended, I've just been doing uh part-time stuff since then to make ends meet. And um I guess I also dropped out of college in 2014 due to an injury where I uh could not actually do anything and they didn't have online classes, so I had to drop out and never went back to it. But now I'm doing uh this art stuff, and I love art. So it's been a passion of mine uh pretty much since I was a kid, and I kind of drifted away from it and just said, Hey, look at this college. And I said, Okay, and it all happened like in the last week, it all just went ba-pa-ba-ba, everything fell into place, which is a good sign, I guess. Which means the college admissions is doing their job. They're doing their job, yeah, and making it happen, and yeah.
SPEAKER_02So, yeah. So, who are we like the Jess and Hids sort of brand?
SPEAKER_01Do you know what literally the first thing that just popped in my head to say? We are two wild and crazy guys from Saturday Night Live. Sorry, I just know that reference popped in my head. I forget that you didn't watch any of the Saturday Night Live.
SPEAKER_02Like, but by the time I was old enough to appreciate the humor, I was into like I don't know, other things. Saturday Night Live wasn't like huge on my oh also we didn't have TV. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, that'll do it. Yeah, yeah. Anyway. Um, yeah, I guess we met through an online. Hang on, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_02Um so like the Jessin Hids Oh the Jess and Hids sort of brand. We started writing together and we started a Patreon for that, and now the Patreon mostly just supports the podcast and our website. We haven't actually written a published book, but we are working on it. Which is what we keep telling our patrons for a few years.
SPEAKER_01Okay, shout out to our patrons. So we've been stalled. We've talked about this in our Discord and in some of our lives. Um, we've been stalled, but actually the last two weeks we have kind of got a little bit of movement happening.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, our novels have been creeping back into our brains, and I think we're ready to do like just like a major re-edit. Re-edit and or just completely rewrite it. I think we decided that's where we need to go.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, we had a few themes that we kind of shifted the focus on, and we're like it's gonna be kind of the same story, but a little different.
SPEAKER_02A little slightly different. Yeah. There there were a couple of major like world changes that we made that's gonna affect a lot of things. But as far as like the the overall story, it's gonna stay the same. Yeah. But anyway, that's that's sort of how the whole Jess and Hids brand started, is because we had this these books that we wanted to write. We have so many ideas for books. Um and then the podcast, our first podcast, Jess and Hids Make a Podcast, came a few years later. 2024 is when we started that one. And we started our Patreon in 22. In 22. Yeah. So a couple years after we started the Patreon, we started the podcast, and now we have this podcast. So that's a lot of fun. Uh, if you want to see, if you want to learn more about what we're about, you can go to our uh Patreon page. I'm sorry, I'm pausing a lot. I just drank soda and I'm trying not to burp in the microphone. Um, patreon.com slash Jess and Hids. So how did we meet?
SPEAKER_01How did okay that's growing before the brand. Before the brand. Let's talk about the friendship. We were in a kind of virtual running club, online running club, and I was kind of overseeing the admins. It was chaotic, and I was like, hey, this person is seems nice in her post, and she's engaging in the group. And I said, Hey, do you want to be an admin? I wasn't actually. I know you that's not how that happened at all. How did wait, what did I miss? It was Am I confusing you with someone else? Uh probably. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02But I I started admining for the Hoovian Running Club before it was taken over by the company that you worked for. Yeah, I was in charge of Huvian Running Club before it was taken over. But it wasn't your post that I responded to. Whose was it? It was uh Chris. Oh. Yeah, she posted about it for Chris. Yeah. Wow. I mean, I would have used her full name, but like I'm not sure. No, you're fine. You're good. Um but yeah, I I was right. I was had gotten into running through like the zombies run app and loved their little Facebook community that they had, and I wanted more of that. So somebody had mentioned Julie had mentioned in the zombie group about the Huvian group. So I was like, oh, I like Doctor Who, I'll join that one. And like I just lurked. I never posted in there and never did anything until I saw Chris's post. And I was like, okay, this will force me to more be more involved in this group, and maybe I can make some friends and uh stay like excited about running because I know with my ADHD, like it it would have faded. So I volunteered and um yeah, that's how we met, but we weren't really friends. It was more just like uh, I am an admin for this group that you are running.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, the brain is working again. Um let me tell you, post-COVID, my brain does not work, it does not function. I'm struggling. Um yeah, so that is right. I remember now, man, that's so long ago.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was a while ago. 10.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I just I don't know. It's been a while. Yeah. Um, but like we started kind of getting to know each other better by playing DD.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so in this running club, um not the Doctor Who one, but a different one. Uh, there was It's complicated. Yeah, it's it's complicated, but we'll just say the running club. Um, it was bigger. Uh, this our first ever DM was also a member of this club, and he was doing this little DD themed running challenge that like you get so many miles and roll some dice and defeat the big bad. He like gamified uh a running challenge, which was really cool. And I helped him, like he reached out, I think he made a post in the group asking if somebody could do like Photoshop work for him to make these images that you wanted to use. And I said yes. And so that's how I met him, and that's how like we started working together is I was just making images for him, and I'm like, okay, I have no idea what you know an orc ranger should look like. So let me just like Google some images and see what I can do. And like uh, that was actually pretty fun. And I didn't actually take part in the challenge, but I sort of helped run it on the sidelines. And then after that, he approached me and said, I'm putting together a small group of people who are interested in learning how to play DD because of this thing that I ran, and I thought you might want to. And he also approached you and said the same thing. Yeah. So that's how we met. That's how we started playing DD. And it was all uh online, all remote. Like first we started with this weird voice app thing that I don't even mumble.
SPEAKER_00Mumble. Mumble.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It was not great. It was not great, it was terrible. Then we moved to Discord, and that also at the time was really not good. It has improved a lot now, and that's how we run all of our games now for our patrons. Um and then like we started doing it over Zoom, which was great because we were never able to use video in Discord. Um so yeah, I don't that that was like a weird tangent. You didn't need to know that. But we started playing this campaign together, and that's like we weren't even like super close as the campaign went on until like the very end of it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then we just kind of like started talking more out of game and just kind of became online friends. And and here we are today. Yeah. But then like I then like a lot of stuff happened in there, but oh my gosh. Sorry.
SPEAKER_02I already turned off my alarm. Um yeah, and then like the next campaign with that same group, when we were making characters, we were like, hey, our characters should know each other, and that's when we started writing together. Because we made like joint backstories for these characters and figured out how they knew each other and and all of that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and just like writing like little snippets of of how they met and stuff like that. Like, this is fun, this is really fun. Yeah. And it just kind of spiraled from there. And um spiraled up. Up, yeah, yeah. We're gonna say it's up because you know, here we are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, but yeah, and it just kind of became like co-author partnership, friendship, and now we're roommates. So yeah, here we are doing our thing. And now we're gonna go to college, not together in different places.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I mean, we can't like live exactly the same life. I think I would go crazy.
SPEAKER_01I like being an individual, and and I'm learning after uh many years, I'm learning how to be an individual. Yeah, it's it's weird.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, you went from living with your family to being married and having a husband. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like straight out of high school. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I yeah, I am used to having roommates. I have had many roommates in the past, so no, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's just and here we are. And yep. So yeah, the the past few years have been a learning experience for me. Thank you for your patience. It's been kind of a shock. No, it's been great. I'm just like, wow.
SPEAKER_02That's how people can cohabitate but also be their own people. It's so weird. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, so we talked about uh small town. So I grew up in North Carolina and I moved here to Arizona, which is where you also moved to moved to from a different part of Arizona.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I moved from one small town in Arizona to another small town in Arizona. I grew up in Thatcher. Who's heard of Thatcher? Show of hands, I'll wait. Um, just kidding. You've been there once.
SPEAKER_01I know, but I've heard of it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um, and now I'm in a little town called Snowflake, Arizona, and I made the move because my mom actually grew up here. And when I graduated from high school, my parents and my younger brother moved here. Me and my older sister stayed down in Thatcher because there was a college there, and we were both planning on attending classes. And then I stayed there and lived with my grandma on my dad's side. My dad is from Thatcher. Um, and I was with her for 10 years until she passed away in 2019. And then I moved here because by then all of my other siblings had moved up here. So, like, Thatcher's a fun place, but there was like I was working three part-time jobs at the time, and I had the opportunity. I say opportunity, but it was it was kind of a mistake to do it. But I I took over a small business and um thought that that would be, you know, better income than working three part time jobs.
SPEAKER_01Well, and then COVID. But that's why I'm here. Yeah, COVID hit.
SPEAKER_02So, like that's really what the problem was is yeah, nobody shopped there. It was a small business and it was a victim of COVID. So So yeah. Also, I'm not good at running businesses. I found out. I can blame the ADHD for that though. Do not step on my computer. These cats.
SPEAKER_01Um, we also have six cats and a dog. Um, which is is fun when we're recording and they want attention.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So anyway, we're we're now in Snowflake, Arizona, and it's up north. And yes, it is called Snowflake. No, it is not desert. It's not called Snowflake because it snows. Uh it's actually called, it's named for two people, one named Snow and one named Flake, and they are the founders of the town. So it we do get snow. Yeah. Surprise.
SPEAKER_01We are we we're technically in the mountains. We're like at 5,000 feet elevation. So like we're technically in the mountains, the white mountains here. Um, and we have, you know, we have winter, summer, uh, wind, lovely falls.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And like there's wind in the summer too. So technically that's that's wind season.
SPEAKER_01It's all, yeah. Yeah. The wind. It's not super bad. I like wind, but let me tell you that at this point in my life, I am like, no, this is obscene wind.
SPEAKER_02It's it is. And I tried to warn you about it when you were thinking about moving here. I was like, come to Snowflake. Oh, but like, there's like really bad wind. And you're like, oh, I love wind.
SPEAKER_01And I'm like, and it's great. No, you don't.
SPEAKER_02I don't. Nobody loves this wind.
SPEAKER_01I'm just thinking wind.
SPEAKER_02It's funny because we'll have we have friends that are like, yeah, we're getting gusts up to 40 miles an hour, and we're like, oh, sweetie, that's like normal. That's a breeze for us.
SPEAKER_01Like our sustained winds can be around 60 or something, and then we're like, oh, it gusted up to like 90. For like 30 seconds, it was a hurricane. You know, like it's like stupid crazy. Uh but I I do I love it here.
SPEAKER_02It is a very uh pretty little little town.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. With the aliens and things in the sky at night.
SPEAKER_02North, North, uh, Northern Arizona is a crazy place for alien activity. If you've heard of Travis Walton or seen the movie Fire in the Sky, he's from Snowflake, so he lives here. We need to meet him on our other parts. Well, next time you see him, jump out in front of him. Okay. I don't know. I don't know. Like he's getting old. I don't want to risk him not seeing me. I mean, I his vision is probably perfectly fine. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, the aliens. If he's on the road. Yeah, they fixed him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But anyway, these are the kinds of things we like to talk about on our other podcasts. Like, we are actually going to talk about Travis Walton someday, and we would love to have him on our podcast as a guest, but we'll see if that's I need to go on his website.
SPEAKER_01He has a contact form, or he did have it last time I looked.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_01Um, so other than podcasting, um, and obviously talking about aliens, encrypted, encrypted, and weird things in history. Yeah. Really, uh, if that stuff interests you, go check out our other podcast. For sure. Um hobby. Some of the other hobbies, yeah. Like I like art. Um, been getting back into art the last few years. I kind of drifted away from it. Um, I like to do crafty things. I do a little bit of sewing. Um, I do I make little crocheted critters, little goblins that are uh kind of like I think we're like over 250 of them around the world. They're in different places, so which is wild to me. Yeah. Um, but yeah, and then I just, you know, write and draw and play with the cats. Yeah, that's a hobby. I used to have like tons of hobbies because ADHD, you know, you just like I can do this, I can do this. You're like really good at beading, you make those cool bracelets. I used to, I used to work at a bead shop and teach actually teach beading classes and stuff. Um, I've kind of gotten out of that. It's hard to do beads when you have six cats. Um yeah. I because I cannot like get it out and do a little bit of work and clean it all up. I will it doesn't work that way for me. I have to spread out and just leave it out. So with the six cats, it's impossible. They would just be eating string and beads and oh man, can't you imagine? It would be a disaster. Yeah. Um, but yeah. Yeah, I just it's all kind of crafty things I like to do.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, kitten. Oh, sorry.
SPEAKER_01I just under the tink is curled up under our tink has like started just chilling under our desk. Like between our two. Yeah. She's funny.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um my hobbies. I I love yoga and I actually teach yoga on the side. I act well, not right now. I don't have any classes going right now because I'm starting school. Which is sad because I really I enjoy teaching yoga. Um, I also like to bake.
SPEAKER_00Yay!
SPEAKER_02I'm not like, I don't know. I'm I'm you're very good at not bake-off quality bakes. But I love uh I just love the process of just throwing some ingredients together. Not throwing some, it is like scientific. You do actually measure your baking ingredients, um, but coming up with like fun, fun things.
SPEAKER_01I enjoy the fact that you come up with fun things that I then get to eat.
SPEAKER_00Oh, great. It makes me happy.
SPEAKER_02Uh I also like before I dropped out of college, I was majoring in graphic design. So I do like to design things. Um, I'm less of a physical media person and more digital media, uh, just no AI. Um and yeah, I've I designed all of our merch. So that's cool. Merch that we don't actually have anymore. Yeah, we don't actually have it for sale anywhere. We yeah, that is a in the goal that we're working on. And there will definitely be some fizz and bang merch in the future as well. And uh if my ADHD cooperates, I also I also enjoy crocheting. I haven't been able to do that for a while, though. I'll start a project and then just never finish it. Put it down and it's done. Yep.
SPEAKER_01So um, so since this is oh my gosh, the cats are climbing the wall next to me. Um her shadow is on the ceiling and she's trying to get to it. Oh my gosh, she's so cute. Yeah. So okay, so since this is a DD-based podcast, let's do a little bit of DD chat. DD talk. What is your favorite cleft play?
SPEAKER_02Oh man, honestly, probably druid. Fizz is a druid. Uh, my first ever character was a druid. I also love bards and I like wild magic sorcerers. Those are fun too. But yeah, I think favorite druid would be number one, and I think bard would be number two. But also, like, I don't think I've ever played a class that I've disliked. I will say that I don't have much experience as a monk or artificer or cleric. I've only ever played those for one shots or uh as NPCs. So I don't know enough about them to say whether or not I like them or not. But yeah, I I don't know, I think you know, the top druid two druid and bard. Bards are super fun. They are. I had a multi-class, one of the NPCs that I had was a multi-class uh oh wait, no, no, no, no. Not an MPC, multi-class Bard and uh warlock, Shen. Oh, oh man, yeah. She was fun. She was fun. Didn't get to play her at higher levels though, and I wish I would have.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that would have been fun. Yeah, I think my favorite class, hmm. Probably like a fighter type. I like to just jump in the mix and get stuff going on. Um, I also really like rogues. Yeah. Um rogues are also fun, yeah. And I am recently started playing a druid. Um, and they're fun. I haven't like it's a totally different mindset for me to shift over to like because druids don't squishy spellcasters. Yeah, squishy spellcaster, because I'm I'm tend to be like kind of chaotic and do like my my characters tend to be protective um or or helpers. Uh I don't really play like lone wolf types, I guess. I mean, I guess I do in a way, but not like nobody matters but me. I don't do that vibe, but I'm trying to think of I'm trying to think of all the characters I've had, and I'm like, wait, have I done I mean you've started your characters tend to keep to themselves a lot.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. I'm trying to come across.
SPEAKER_01Maybe yeah, I think they don't they don't do like info dumps for sure. Like you have to kind of get to know them more. Um and it really depends on like if you've listened to who else we're playing with.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you've listened to our middle bits, you know that we we like story and we like our characters to just not like here's everything you need to know about me on day one. Like I think we talked about that in the last episode about role-playing tips and stuff like that. Like you don't have to share your entire backstory with these people you just met. So yeah, so it just kind of depends on who we play with. Yeah. Sometimes I never share my backstory because I know that people won't really care.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and like if you're just and you know, I tend to build backstories even for characters that I'm only ever gonna play once. I have to like kind of know their motivation and stuff. Um, so yeah, I think back to the original, I think Fighter and Rogue are probably my favorite. I started my very first character was a ranger. Um, and I think I've played one other ranger since then. Kyothi. Kyote. And she ended up becoming a barbarian. So um so yeah, I think like I think I like the the the fighter class because they can like get in the mix and and help out. Yeah. Um especially I think it's the I think it's the Battlemaster subclass or the champion. I can't remember which one, but there's one that like can help other players by doing things like Battle Master.
SPEAKER_02You can like sacrifice your something to give someone else an attack, yeah, things like that.
SPEAKER_01You can and you can help like you have like dice that you can do extra stuff with and give some other people some stuff. So that one's that one's kind of fun. I think probably um cleric is probably my least favorite, but I've again only played that in a mystery one shot, and I like I was like frustrated because it was a life domain cleric, which is basically there to buff to everybody else.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So like I couldn't do anything to help like defeat the enemy, I just had to keep everybody alive, which is a good thing to depart. But it was not like I wasn't used to playing that way, so it was a good like, hey, there are other options, you know, than just jumping in and fighting the thing. You can help your friends stay alive. Um, so but yeah, I think like cleric would probably be my least, and then maybe I don't know. I've not played, I've played an artifice or as an NPC. Um and that was that was kind of interesting. I haven't ever really played a monk, I don't think. Yeah, I don't think I've done a monk even as an NPC.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm trying to think if I have any monk characters, but I don't think I do.
SPEAKER_01Maybe I'll add a monk in my Saturday game somewhere as an NPC. I don't know, we'll see. They seem fun. Like at first, you when you start out, you're like, well, all I can do is punch, but then like as you level up, those punches do a lot. Yeah, and then you could punch a lot, and then you can like punch and punch and punch and punch and punch, and then you're like, oh, by the way, here's some lightning on my fist, you know, or whatever. So it's kind of uh yeah, there's they're I think they would be fun, but I have never just really created that as a character.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Hmm.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I can't I don't know if I've ever I don't know. I'm I'm gonna have to scroll through all my characters.
SPEAKER_01I'm not going to not right now. I have a lot of characters. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um what these huh?
SPEAKER_01What were you gonna say? Sorry, I was just the next question. Oh, I was go I was gonna save that one for the last. Flip them? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. If you could handpick your DD table from anyone in the world, I'm gonna say everyone, living or dead. Oh. Who would you choose? So like if you had a table of five to six players and you were the DM, who would you want at your table?
SPEAKER_00Can I make one of them be the DM? I mean, I guess so.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't really the question. Okay, okay. No, I don't care. Yeah, if you could play DD with any like five people, we'll say who would that who would it be?
SPEAKER_01Um wow, I have to think about this. This episode will not be edited. I know. Um trying to think. I'm trying to think of like because I've listened. Okay, Justin McElroy. Okay. Yes. Yes. Justin McElroy, for sure. Um okay, that's one.
SPEAKER_02Who you've got. I gotta think about this. I've got, I would love to play with Matthew Lillard. Okay. Matthew Lillard. I know I slurred his name and I apologize. Matthew, if you're out there and you're listening, I'm sorry. Please play DD. Let's play D D. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I would like you to run the game.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that'd be great. We could play your game. I know. Anyway. I want to get his game. I know for sure. I would love to play with him. Yeah. Um and I think uh Bang Chan of Stray Kids. Honestly, any member of Stray Kids I would love to play with. I think Han or Lino would actually be more chaotic in a game. For sure. That would be fun.
SPEAKER_01Uh do you have anybody else? Um, well, you made me think of K-pop, and then I'm thinking of um either um Hongjung from 80s or Haru from X Love. I think Haru would be I feel like Haru would be fun. Yeah. Just like all in. Yeah. They're just adorable. Um yeah, okay, that's I'm gonna take those two. That's three. You can have Henry Cavill. Like my in my instant thing is like, okay, sure, yeah, that he and then I'm like, I feel like he would be really intense. And I oh probably. I also feel like he might be kind of rules lawyer lawyery. Like he might be like, well, the rules state, and I'd be like, sir. Yeah. But this is a pretty butt, however. Put the rule book aside. I but then uh he might not. He might just be like all in character and go for it. I don't know. Hard to he'll be my standby.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay. All right, I've got three in a standby.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay, I'm gonna think about who else. Well, who do I have? I have got um Matthew Lillard, Bang Chan. Uh thinking of past historical figures. Okay.
SPEAKER_01That's what I was gonna say. Can we do living or dead? Yeah, that's what I said. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Amelia Earhart. I think she would be awesome at DD. She would be fun.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Okay. So that's three for me. I've got three. So my fourth. Oh man, it's a toss-up because one of the reasons I was like clarifying Living or Dead, I it would be a toss-up for me between Robin Williams and Gene Wilder. Oh man. Can I have both of them? I'm gonna take both of them.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01I think that would be an insane table.
SPEAKER_00That would be awesome.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna say Prince.
SPEAKER_03Oh.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Because that would be cool.
SPEAKER_01Well, I feel like he would be very imaginative, but also maybe a little rules lawyer-y. I don't know. I feel like some of the stuff I've read about him, he's very particular about things.
SPEAKER_02He might be particular about his own character, but I can't imagine him calling other people out. And I'm fine with that. You can be rules lawyer-y about your own character.
SPEAKER_01And if I'm DMing, I'll be like, yeah, do what you do whatever you want. Again, however, like if I'm sitting at a table with Prince, I'm not gonna complain. I know.
SPEAKER_02I mean, like, you want to do that? Okay, we'll do that. Um it's funny that we're not naming any other celebrities who actually play D. Um, I actually do want to say Griffin McElroy. You already said Justin. Yeah. But Griffin, uh if Griffin can DM, that would be great. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Griffin's, I want Griffin to DM. Yeah. Yeah. Let's make it happen. Okay. All right. Well, I'll uh I'll just drop him a DM really quick. Yeah. Hey, let's find your DMs. Can you DM for us? Um, okay, who wait, who do I have? I think that was five. I have Justin. Do you have any more? I have I have Justin McElroy. Hong Jun. Robin Williams, Gene Wilder, Cavils on Standby. Um David Bowie.
SPEAKER_02Aw. It's funny because when I thought of Prince, I was like, oh, just when you said Prince, I was like, Prince, oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And I'm gonna make him play uh Jareth. Oh, Amelia Earhart was Amelia Earhart.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I have six.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Okay. So do I I get one more? I think I have six. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Justin, David, Matthew, Bang Chan.
SPEAKER_01And Robin. Okay, I do get one more. Henry's on standby. Um Amelia Earhart.
SPEAKER_02Uh Griffin. Who did I say? Prince. Prince, yeah. Okay, I have five.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I have five too. Did I miss anybody? I don't think so. Okay.
SPEAKER_01I should we should have written these down. I know. Um okay, we got one more. Let's both get one more. Okay. And just like the most out there person that like maybe you're like, this person would never play DD, but if they did, they'd be really fun. Um, I have two in my head just jumped in my head, and I have to pick between them. What are they? Who are they? Nick Offerman and uh Zina. What's her name? Lucy Lucy Lawless? That's not her name. What's her name? What's who's who played Zina? What's her name? Not Lucy Lawless. I know. As soon as I said it, it was wrong.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, I'm blinking too.
SPEAKER_01It is Lucy Lawless. Is it?
SPEAKER_02Okay. Yay. Thank you, Brain, for being smarter than me. I thought I would recognize her name when I heard it, but I sure didn't. So I was like, I don't know who Lucy Lawless is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know who, like oh.
SPEAKER_02Do you want one of them? No. Okay. My sixth would be Jamie Campbell Bauer. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, what did I think of? I'm so jealous now. Um no, that's great. I think, you know, I think I think I would take Xena.
unknownShe would.
SPEAKER_01And I would just be like, you need to go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Can you like play Zina as your character? That'd be great. That would be wonderful.
SPEAKER_01But she just might like roll her eyes and God, no, not for real. Oh my gosh. All right. Yeah, I think that would be fun. Oh. Who's your standby? Do you have a standby? Um, I can't I can't believe I left it.
SPEAKER_02It's probably, I mean, I know I've been saying Bang Chan, but my standby would be either Han or Leno. Probably Lino. No, Han would be fun too. He'd play a good bard.
SPEAKER_01You have a table full of bards right now. Yeah. And one warlock. Who's the warlock? Jamie Bauer. Oh, okay. I just that just seems like a good fit.
SPEAKER_02I kind of like he so wanted to play a romantic role for Rings of Power. He's totally gonna be like a paladin or something.
SPEAKER_01Oh, maybe. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Or like a fighter, but with like a a love interest. Like the protection fighter or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I love that. Yeah. Oh, so if you, the listener, want to tell us, you can um reach out to us on Instagram or Facebook and drop us your list of your your uh fun game take.
SPEAKER_02Honestly, we might even I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna make a graphic saying like name, like tag people. Well, maybe don't tag celebrities.
SPEAKER_01They might get some celebrities you can't tag Jamie Bauer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. That's fine. So many oh my gosh. People tagging him would be so annoying. Yeah. Anyway, um, but yeah, I'm gonna make a graphic comment on that with your your dream team, your dream DD table.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I think that would I I would love to see like kind of because like everybody has their own interests and their own kind of things that they geek out on. And I would love to see what other people are saying.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like, would Paul Hollywood play DD? Noel Fielding is my other standby. Oh man. Okay, I have seven at my table. Noel's at my table now. Mine. Richard Ayowati isn't mine.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Let's just like all of the BBC comedians, Jimmy Carr, Richard Ayowati, Noary, Matt Berry, all of those guys. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Okay. We're just gonna have the BBC version.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that's happening. Okay.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, well, you know what?
SPEAKER_01I want Mary Mary to come in as a cleric. Aw, yeah. I think she would make a lovely cleric. I think so. Or maybe even a paladin. One of those, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I can imagine her swinging a huge sword at something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay. So yeah. Do like reach out to us, look for the graphic on our Instagram, our Facebook, and let us know who your ideal table would be. Yeah. This could be really fun. Yeah. Um, I we have one last question, and we're gonna wrap close with this one, and it is what is a super random or bizarre fact about you?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you know, I wrote that question and I didn't think of an answer. Let me think about it.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I'll go with one.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01So I have uh ridden horses and everything my whole life. I have fallen off horses, I have hit jumps, I have had a horse fall on me. I have been thrown, I have been through all kinds of insanity, and I have never broken a bone in my body. Dang.
SPEAKER_02I have also never broken a bone into my body, but I haven't done any of that.
SPEAKER_01I've also like fallen out of trees and off of like ladders and stuff, but yeah. I mean, yeah, I've fallen out of trees and off trampolines and stuff. But yeah. But that's that's childhood. That's just one of those weird random things. I've never broken a thing. That's cool. You're lucky. Yeah. Hopefully it doesn't happen anytime soon.
SPEAKER_02Oh, let's see. When you said that, I thought of my my lack of a disc between my L4 and L5 vertebrae, but that was just because it was infected, so it had to be removed. But that's that's not a weird, bizarre thing about me. That's just a medical thing. Um I was on an episode of America's Funniest Home Videos. I've been on TV. That's so wild to me. This was in 2005. I think it aired in April. So if you want to track that down, go for it. Um it's me, it was filmed at my birthday party. Uh, and it was it's me and a bunch of kids playing the spoon game, but not the one with cards where you have a bunch of spoons in the middle of the table and you have to get like like four of a kind or whatever and grab a spoon. It's not that one, it's a different one. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look it up. But it's funny. Guy chipped his tooth. We got second place. Hey! Yeah, congratulations. Yeah, it was fun. And like a free trip to Universal, and we got to tour the lot and everything. Uh that's filmed it. It was it was fun.
SPEAKER_00That's cool. Yeah. That's wow, you're you're famous. Ah, famous. Very cool. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00That's all the questions that we have.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, and yeah, so we're we're gonna just wrap this, and this is our kind of get to know you episode. Um, and we'll be back August the 8th with our regular episode. We'll get back to seeing what Fizz is up to. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I'm I'm excited to see what Fizz is gonna be up to as well. Yeah. I'll probably not get closer down.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that would be the hint. Not gonna get close. I mean, considering that Bang ended up. Wait, I'm not gonna do spoiler. Well, no, if you're listening to this, hopefully you listen to the episode.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you um last if you haven't listened to last episode about Bang yet, uh Go ahead and stop this now. Mute for a second. Uh yeah, but Bang ended up farther away than he intended. Thanks to a little um Nyad. Nyad.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02She was cute.
SPEAKER_01She was fun. But she inspired art. Yeah. Yeah. I have more art that's inspired by her as well, and just need to do it. It's in my head. Yes. This is why I want to go to art school because I want to get a few. I can illustrate this podcast and the graphic novel that's going to come out of this podcast. I I just, it's all in my head. I have all of the imagery. Yay. I just don't have the skills and the confidence in myself to do it. So that's why I'm going to college as an adult. And it's gonna be super fun. I am super, super excited.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right. All right. Thank you for listening. And once again, you can find us at patreon.com slash Jess and Hids or look for Jess and Hids on any of the socials. Uh, we are on all of them except for X. Yeah, because we have nobody got time for it.
SPEAKER_00But we don't do TikToks. Yeah, I mean, we're there.
SPEAKER_01I might do some maybe I'll do some like TikToks about college life as an I did I'm working, I'm good, it's all online, not gonna be on campus.
SPEAKER_00So I'll uh you can do some like some I might some time lapses of your your drawings and stuff. Yeah, we'll actually get a TikTok going. Yeah. That'd be fun. That would be really fun.
SPEAKER_02And like I would post about my schooling, but it's just massage therapy. I don't know. Like I can talk about anatomy, I guess. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Tell me what this little muscle is right here that's always in a knot. Oh man. Um so yeah, um, thank you guys for listening. Thank you for uh following our podcast and leave us a review.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you like us, tell your friends.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Say nice things about us so we feel validated.
SPEAKER_02Tell the macaroids we want them. We want to play DD with them. And uh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Make it happen. Let's make it happen. It'd be so much fun. I would be so intimidated, I think. I'd just be like, my character is mute.
SPEAKER_02Yep. I'm just not gonna say anything. No, I think I'd get into it because they are also snarky. I know.
SPEAKER_01And so that's why I would probably be like, oh, do you guys like me? Why are you so mean? But I would be like laughing and crying at the same time. Yeah. So all right, I'm gonna just keep doing the Midwestern goodbye. So we just need to end this. Okay. See you next week.
SPEAKER_00Bye bye.
