York Region for 11 years and in January started in a new role as the uh Canadian Regional Director for the Great Commission Collective, of which uh your church is a part. 00:00:38.880 --> 00:00:48.159 And uh Sue and I have been all over Canada this year so far, a little bit down in the States as well, uh serving our churches, and it's a great privilege to do it. 00:00:48.240 --> 00:00:53.359 I'd like to explain what I do kind of in four uh sentences for people to understand. 00:00:53.520 --> 00:01:01.600 What we're what we're striving for is that we would have healthy leaders leading strong 00:02:22.400 He's not a greater enemy that with God's help we don't conquer, but he's a strong enemy. 00:02:22.479 --> 00:02:27.919 Um, and the great part of that for followers of Jesus Christ, what God's called us to and what we're to be a part of as we uh live our lives for the glory of God. 00:02:39.599 --> 00:02:49.599 The enemy is real, he's powerful, he's slick, but God is greater and says it says, Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 00:03:07.360 --> 00:03:14.159 Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 00:03:14.400 --> 00:03:25.439 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against authorities, against the cosmic powers over the present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places. 00:03:25.680 --> 00:03:48.960 Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand, uh to stand firm, stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, as and and as shoes of your feet, having put on the readiness given by the into Ephesians chapter six without taking a minute to kind of paint a picture of what Paul's already been doing in this book, right? 00:05:55.360 --> 00:06:04.000 Uh, Paul is in prison as he's writing this, and so as he talks about some of the things, he's experiencing some of the realities of what he's talking about. 00:06:04.240 --> 00:06:16.639 And uh so we have this um a battle that's going on in his own life, and so he writes this letter to this church, and in the first part of the letter that he writes to the church, he he really gives them a doctrinal basis. 00:06:16.800 --> 00:06:28.160 Ephesians chapter one is an amazing chapter of how how good God is and God's working and his choosing us and our being um uh brought into the family of God and all that God's done. 00:06:28.240 --> 00:06:37.360 There's all this rich theology in Ephesians chapter one and Ephesians chapter two, it starts out and we understand it says that we are dead in our trespasses and sins. 00:06:37.519 --> 00:06:40.240 The Bible says, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. 00:06:40.399 --> 00:06:42.079 There's none righteous, no, not one. 00:06:42.319 --> 00:06:43.600 No one seeks after God. 00:06:43.680 --> 00:06:44.639 We're we're dead. 00:06:44.879 --> 00:06:46.079 Spiritually, we're dead. 00:06:46.240 --> 00:06:52.319 But then in Ephesians 2, as you read through the first verses there, it talks about that we are made alive in Jesus Christ. 00:06:52.480 --> 00:06:57.040 And God does this transforming work where he brings us from death to life. 00:06:57.199 --> 00:07:05.120 So often when you talk to people, they talk about the journey they were on, and I was seeking after God, and I was on a spiritual journey, and I found Christ. 00:07:05.839 --> 00:07:06.959 No, you didn't. 00:07:07.360 --> 00:07:11.120 That's what it appears is that what happened to you, but that's not what really happened to you. 00:07:11.279 --> 00:07:12.399 The Bible said you were dead. says, you were made alive in Christ Jesus, and that's a work that God did, and He does that work through us, and we find ourselves in a journey. 00:07:25.600 --> 00:07:31.759 But God starts that work, and and then it says in Ephesians 2, 8, for by grace you're saved through faith. 00:07:32.000 --> 00:07:35.759 It's a gift of God, not of works, lest no, lest anyone would boast. 00:07:36.000 --> 00:07:39.279 And uh, if it was about what we did, we would become boastful about it. 00:07:39.360 --> 00:07:50.240 And then in Ephesians 2 it goes on and it talks about the fact that we are his workmanship, God working in us, God doing this work, writing this poem of our lives. 00:07:50.560 --> 00:07:57.439 We come to uh Ephesians chapter 3, and I've been preaching about it this summer and really focusing towards the glory of God. 00:07:57.600 --> 00:08:00.480 That's the purpose of your life, is one thing is to glorify God. 00:08:00.639 --> 00:08:03.680 Everything else is not the main purpose. 00:08:03.839 --> 00:08:08.879 Having a good church, having good ministries, having good things, they're all good things, but they're not the thing. 00:08:09.040 --> 00:08:16.079 Um, having a family and having a job and having devotions and raising your kids to go to church, and they're all good things, but they're not the thing. 00:08:16.319 --> 00:08:21.120 The thing is to glorify God, and you see that in uh verses uh 20 and 21, I think it is. 00:08:21.199 --> 00:08:30.160 And then Paul comes to Ephesians chapter 4, and after all of this rich theology and all of this rich teaching, now he he kind of turns the book on its head. 00:08:30.319 --> 00:08:35.360 It's like this is who you are, and now the rest of the book is now this is what you do. 00:08:35.759 --> 00:08:38.720 And uh he talks about so many different things. 00:08:38.879 --> 00:08:43.519 He talks about sin in our lives, and he talks about preparing people to do the work of ministry. 00:08:43.600 --> 00:09:03.759 And in Ephesians 5, he gets to that place about submission, and he talks about the church is filled with people who are in mutual submission, and he talks about the relationship between husbands and wives, and then he goes on and he talks about the relationship between kids and their parents, between slaves and those who are the uh masters over them. 00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:12.159 And then as we move down through into Ephesians 6, he's coming to the end of the book, and as he comes to the end of the book, then he comes to this. 00:09:12.320 --> 00:09:14.799 He says, Finally, finally. 00:09:15.519 --> 00:09:22.399 And he wants to give them some more tools to put in their toolbox so that they can live for the glory of God. 00:09:22.559 --> 00:09:30.320 And so today we want to take a look at four things that he talks about in this text, and I trust they will help you in your battle. 00:09:30.639 --> 00:09:33.679 Because if you're not feeling like you're in a battle today, get ready. 00:09:33.759 --> 00:09:35.519 You are going to be in a battle. 00:09:35.840 --> 00:09:41.679 The battle is coming, and we need to be ready for it, and we need to have the tools so that we can stand. 00:09:42.320 --> 00:09:50.000 Um becoming a Christian was the best decision you ever made in your life. 00:09:50.399 --> 00:09:54.000 It was the most important decision you ever made in your life. 00:09:54.320 --> 00:09:57.679 But the day you trusted Christ, that was the most wonderful thing you did. 00:09:57.759 --> 00:09:59.360 You might think, well, no, I got this job. 00:09:59.440 --> 00:10:00.240 That was a wonderful thing. 00:10:00.320 --> 00:10:02.639 Yeah, but it doesn't compare to knowing Christ. 00:10:02.879 --> 00:10:11.120 Yeah, but I I found a wife, and some of you guys are lucky you found a wife at all, but it's not, it's not the most wonderful thing that ever happened in your life, right? 00:10:11.679 --> 00:10:14.960 Um my house is paid for. 00:10:15.039 --> 00:10:18.720 Yeah, it's a good thing, but it's not the most wonderful thing that ever happened in your life. 00:10:18.879 --> 00:10:23.679 The most wonderful thing that ever happened in your life was But, but that decision launches a war, it launches a battle that until we find ourselves in the house of the Lord forever, we're gonna be in the middle of this battle. 00:10:44.559 --> 00:10:46.480 book to Ephesians verses 11 to 13, it says this may you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 00:14:13.200 --> 00:14:19.440 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.
