I I hope one day we turn this into a video podcast just so people can see your faces. Because Oh god. Yeah, no, uh a little peep behind the curtain. No one knows. Uh Ricky does not know what I'm gonna say to open the show, so it's very fun for me to watch him make wacky points.

Well, this is kind of going off of last week's episode, um, our best of the year so far. This week we're gonna be talking about our most anticipated for the rest of the year.

Yeah, absolutely. This is more or less almost feels like our very first two-parter episode in a way. Very feels like a companion piece. Yeah, 2026 definitely has quite a lot of big movies coming out. I wrote down about 10 movies that I'm pretty interested in seeing, or I might have some comments on. But also, uh, I guess I can we can talk about some of the big, big name movies, because obviously there's quite a few of them. I know there's uh Spider-Man Brand New Day, we have Supergirl coming out, a new Hunger Games, Avengers Doomsday, like those are probably gonna be the big blockbuster ones to get a lot of money. Maybe you have something to say about them. I personally did not write anything about these movies.

Um I've liked the the Spider-Man films, so I am like fairly excited about that one. Um and uh Doomsday I I'm excited about to see like the new direction, I guess it's going. Um What is the new direction?

Because I don't think I've seen I don't think I saw the final adventures.

Um so it's like it's including the Fantastic Four, um, but it's also and um Robert Downey Jr. is like Doctor Doom, I believe, is like villain. Um I think uh Jonathan Majors was supposed to be the main villain. That was like the direction they were going off of like his um uh I think it was Kang the Conqueror or something in uh The Last Ant-Man. But but then he had like all this controversy. So they like Then he fell out of window recently. Oh, did he really?

Yeah, he was filming I he I know he joined like some right wing media, maybe like the Shapiro or who cares. I'll edit that name out because fuck that guy probably. But yeah, the that's the last thing I heard about him was he was filming something. Uh the people on site said, Hey, this is really dangerous, we need to test this more, and they said, No, shoot it anyway, and then Jonathan Majors fell out a window. Well I shouldn't laugh, but the video is very funny.

Um Yeah, so so they I was kind of worried like 'cause like Downey Jr. was Iron Man, and then it's like, oh now he's gonna be Doctor Doom. It's like but um you know we'll we'll see where where it goes. What I'm most excited about is they're including the X-Men in it. That is surprising. Oh, I didn't know that. And uh I think Kelsey Grammar's Beast.

Oh, that's okay, that damn it, I'm gonna have to catch up because I I really do love those old X-Men. I think they're very fun.

Yeah, so it's so I mean that is what I'm most excited about, and I think Channing Tatum's playing Gambit. Officially instead of just being Yeah, I believe so. Oh good for him. He's listed on the credits, so that's funny. We'll we'll see. Um Okay. And like I I like the cast for for the Hunger Games. Um I think this one's like so like I've read all like the the original ones, but I think this one's like one she has done like after it's like a prequel. Gotcha. Um yeah, so we'll we'll see how that is. Like I said, I like the the the the cast. And then uh Yeah, I don't there was another one I think you you brought up.

Supergirl was another Oh Supergirl, yeah. I mean I I I'm excited for for that too. But um Yeah, it's like I'm not like, oh, I have to like see it on opening day or anything. It's like you know, but but I'm hoping it's good because I thought Superman was pretty good.

So it's kind of funny. I saw that trailer in theaters when I saw Michael, and my wife got very sad because the trailer to Supergirl is like, I guess her dog gets shot and poisoned or something, and that's the whole point of the movie. So super it's just like PG John Wick, I guess.

That's like I didn't really notice that. I don't Well, I think I did notice that um they were like focusing on on the dog, and spoiler that's a lot of what Superman is, is like, you know, trying to get the dog back. So it's like, what if like they just constantly make these movies about constantly dogs getting he's really not a super dog if he keeps getting his ass kicked. Yeah, like uh come on, crypto. You a bitch, man.

There's quite a few movies that I'm quite interested in. Weirdly enough, as I was going through them, Anne Hathaway's in like three of them that I'm really fascinated in. She's having a great year. Devil Wars Prada 2, and then three more movies that are coming up that I'm quite excited about.

The first one I Yeah, I think Well, so the uh first one that I was thinking of, um I think I know what what you were thinking of. Were you gonna say the end of Oak Street? Yeah. Yeah, I'm excited. Alright, yeah, we'll like talk about that one first, and then we'll we'll talk about the other one. Yeah, yeah.

They're all actually all of the movies that she's in, I think, look pretty good or interesting. End of Oak Street. No, you don't. Don't you dare spoil. Don't you dare spoil. I did write that movie down though, because I I have some things. Um well when I saw the End of Oak Street trailer, it's for those who don't know, it's Ewan McGregor Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, uh produced by Bad Robot, so um Lost uh JJ Abrams, all that stuff. And it's I believe written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, who famously did It Follows, which is very, very good. We enjoy that movie quite a bit here on this pod. End of Oak Street, it kind of sets itself up in the trailer that it's going to be Ooh Alien Spooky, which is fun, fun sci-fi time. And then it turns out their whole street got transported to Dinosaur Times, which is just so weird and fun, and I'm quite excited about it.

Or like I actually don't know, but it definitely has that vibe that it should be based on a graphic novel.

Like, I feel like I had like read that it was based off of something. Um But yeah, I mean I love Ann Hathaway, I love Ewan Ma McGregor, and yeah, it just seems like a wacky uh very entertaining film.

I was watching the trailer on IMDb one day, and it has tags, so it will it'll say, you know, thriller, mystery. And then at one point the tag just said dinosaur movie, and I went, that can't be right, right? And then as I'm watching, I go, Oh, nope, it is a dinosaur movie. Let's go. That's so cool.

Uh oh no, no, it says David Robert Mitchell's the only credited uh writing. So I'm right. But um, yeah, so talking about It Follows for a second, um Remember when you and I watched that together? Um we we were in college and um I was not in the greatest headspace, and um I haven't watched it since. So uh like I don't know how I feel about it. Like like the A Premise is interesting, um but yeah, so that is one of those that I like everybody loves it and everything, and like I still need to go back to it. Um But yeah, he's an i it he's an interesting d director.

Yeah, because I believe Thomas Middleditch is the lead, and when I I I really don't remember it super well, I looked at IMDB, I gave it a two. So I must have Yeah I do not know why. I don't maybe I made a typo, or maybe just when I watched it, I was like, fuck this film.

Alright, cool. Can I tell you the movie I'm I'm probably the most excited about or most curious about? It it's probably on your list too somewhere. Uh the social reckoning, I am really curious about.

I was so I had heard about it and I was like, I don't know, like I mean Social Network's an amazing film. Yeah, I love that. And then the uh trailer dropped for reckoning, and I was like, oh, okay, I'm definitely on board.

Yeah, that that was almost my exact same feeling. Like, do we really need a sequel to a movie that was really fantastic and kind of a standalone thing? But I kind of like that they're jumping so much further ahead to kind of the aftermath of Facebook and s kind of the uh uh you know dangers that it has exposed us to.

I don't really know like exactly what it's um covering. I think it's covering like, I guess, real lawsuits or or things. But yeah, Mikey Madison, I guess, is like a journalist or something, or maybe Jeremy Allen White's the journalist.

Yeah, I think I think Jeremy Allen White's a journalist. I think Mikey Madison is playing uh kind of a whistleblower, like someone who worked inside Facebook. Um Portia Doubleday is in it, who I love her from Mr. Robot, so it's great to see that.

I saw her in the in the credits or some of one of the announcements, and it kind of blew my mind because I feel like I haven't seen her in anything since Mr. Robot. I'm curious. Now, obviously, the original was written by Aaron Sorkin, he's now directing it too, as opposed to Fincher, and that's where I'm a little like, okay, writing-wise, I know Aaron Sorkin can direct, he can direct his own things, but Fincher had such a kind of dark style for that first movie that I hope sort of carries over here. But Jeremy Strong as Zuckerberg, just the the few clips I've seen of him talking like Mark Zuckerberg, I already went, oh, okay, Oscar nomination, he's going for it, because he sounds just like him.

I was like, 'cause he doesn't really look like him. Like, cause like Eisenberg, you know, kind of like resembled him, I guess. Like, like, you know, he was able to do that. But like Jer Jeremy Strong's just such, you know, like after succession. Like, it's just like he's been, you know, his career like really blew up. So for sure. And yeah, I mean, he's just phenomenal. So yeah, I I'm expecting a number of Oscar nominations for it. And Sorkin as a director, I I really liked the trial of the Chicago 7. Like I thought that was a really good idea.

So well, maybe that'll carry over because I think this movie's gonna be very uh trial-esque. Like it's gonna be a bit more interrogations, it's gonna be a bit more of the hearings about Facebook. So maybe that same style will shine completely fine here.

Yeah, and they in the uh trailer they use the same score from social networks. So I'm assuming Reznor and Atticus Ross are doing the score.

Um I don't know if I have like one uh uh. Maybe I'll go with the adventures of Cliff Booth.

Yeah. Um so it's we don't know a ton about it. Um, but like Cliff Booth was uh Brad Pitt's character from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and this is a movie. It's from a script from Tarantino again, but David Fenture is actually directing it. Which those two together, two of my favorite directors, uh, my favorite writer, like that is just I'm on board. Um, and it looks like really cool. I love the uh cast. Cast is cool, but it seems to be like Yeah, like following uh Cliff Booth more. I think it takes place after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I believe. Yeah.

Yeah, that that I don't I it's all I saw was that it was like considered a sequel or a you know a continuation of that movie because it is following Brad Pitt's character. Uh some of the cast, we of course have I mean Brad Pitt, as we said, Peter Weller. Uh I never heard her name out loud, and I I should learn it because she's in all the Mike Flanagan shows. Carla Gugino. Yes. Oh, thank goodness. Uh our boy Timothy Elephant is in there.

Uh Elizabeth De Bickey, who was in The Crown and Tenet, and she's also in a movie called The Tale, which I think is fantastic. Um Laura Dern film that I absolutely, absolutely love.

I mean it it's it's interesting. I really hope it does actually come out this year. I believe they're last I saw, I think it's at either October or December, somewhere in that three-month span. So fingers crossed that does come out.

Yeah, that is one of those things like films we we might be talking about. They might get pushed too early. Um like uh 2027. But I think they'll still like have uh like even those that like get pushed a little bit, they still usually have like that 2026 release date. Yeah.

But they'll still have the yeah, so yeah, actually speaking of that, there was a movie that doesn't even have a trailer yet, but I want to quickly talk about just called Werewolf. Uh-huh. Yep, uh Werewolf, but uh it's spelt W-E-R-W-U-L-F, so I'm gonna pronounce it like Werewolf. Um written, directed by Robert Eggers, who of course did the lighthouse, the Vitch, uh, and recently knows for Ratu. Uh the reason this kind of caught my eye was because during our Universal, not Universal, but when we were talking about horror movie icons, we were talking about the Universal Monsters and how we were kind of saying we would love to see a a good werewolf movie. And lo and behold, Robert Eggers, who I think does know how to make some truly atmospheric and weird films, coming out with a werewolf film with Willem Defoe.

No, and I was looking at the acast, and it's like everyone like um is just from Nosferatu. Um uh Aaron Taylor Johnson, Lily Rose Depp, uh Willem Defoe. Um, and there was like no one, like those were like the big names I think that I had seen.

The the eldest daughter from Hamnet is also gonna be in it, which I thought was nice. Oh, really? Nice. I believe it's uh Bodhi Ray Brecknocht. Oh, okay. I believe she's gonna be in it. So yeah, I I would love to talk more about this movie. I just there's not enough information. I pray it comes out you know, by Halloween. I think it has a December that probably would make sense. I think. Yeah, I I will definitely go see that one. That looks really good. What else is on your li excited list?

Well, do we want to go ahead and talk about uh the one that you're secretly most excited about? I go ahead. Uh, your your boy, Christopher Nolan, coming up here on my uh my birthday, actually. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Happy birthday to me.

Christopher Nolan is doing the Odyssey. And can I tell you when I saw the trailer in theaters my reaction? Sure. It it was like it's very epic, it's beautiful shot, the the great actors. You see Matt Damon, you see Holland, you see Anne Hathaway, you see Zendia. Like, I mean, the Charlize Therone's in it, like Elliot Page, Mia Gop, like the the cast is crazy. Um Lupita's in it, like it's just it's huge. Yeah. And so it's just like, wow, this is a stacked cast. And as I'm watching, I'm going, this this feels like the Odyssey. Like, this feels like it, it might be like a rendition of the Odyssey. And then it's just like, boom, the Odyssey.

So my prediction is that he he peaked for you with Oppenheimer, and it's just there's gonna be like you know what?

I'm I'm not gonna be a hater anymore. Maybe, maybe I'm on the upswing. He did great with Oppenheimer. I do like that movie quite a bit. So maybe now when I watch the Odyssey, I'm gonna be like, he got it. He he got there.

I'm gonna try to see it in IMAX because it definitely feels like that is probably the way to experience it with all the big sounds and everything, but I I will be sure to text you and call you as soon as I hear.

Yeah, either high school or like community college. Um but yeah, I mean I I r really like it. It's a fun story. Um It's uh yeah, it's I could see it going either way. Um I I tend to like really enjoy all of his films, especially on like the first watch. But then like after I'm like, oh okay. Um 'cause like I mean they they are like I think I don't know if this one's pushing over three hours. I know it's like I'm sure it will be so yeah. Um we'll we'll see.

And the thing is, normally three hours, like that's he loves making three hour films. That is just his absolute wheelhouse. He just loves to be in that, and I, you know, less is more sometimes. But right, yeah. But I think with the Odyssey, it is an epic. It is an incredibly long story, and maybe three hours would be a good runtime for this. But man, if he messes it up, I'm uh you're gonna hear about it. I told everyone! Why won't anyone listen to me? I'm clearly a genius! I want to jump to another movie I'm quite excited about, and mostly I'm fascinated how it's gonna turn out. How familiar with you are you with the uh production cycle of Coyote vs. Acme?

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, so so I mean I I like the uh cast. I love, you know, Wiley Coyote and Roadrunner and everything. And so I'm I'm not writing it off completely yet. I didn't write it down because I was like, I don't know. You know, like part of me we'll see.

So for those who don't know, uh Coyote vs. Acme is a movie where Will Forte is a lawyer and he's representing Wily Coyote in a class action lawsuit against Acme. Which I think maybe that's what's gonna help make it fun because it's not sounds very fun. Right. Like it doesn't seem like it's trying to be quote unquote a Looney Tunes movie, it just happens to be maybe a bit more Roger Rabbit as opposed to Space Jam, right? Where Yeah, yeah. So the production cycle on this thing was insane, and that's what kind of has me fascinated because they started development, I think, in 2018, and then they had multiple directors, and now they've landed on a guy named Dave Green, from who I can tell has only directed two films uh Earth to Echo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows, and that was from 2016. So, like this guy hasn't really done anything in over a decade. Um and I think James Gunn is involved with the story, so that gives me a little bit of hope. But it was filmed in 2022, they shelved it in 2023, and then all of a sudden, I guess some uh pictures leaked of what the movie should have been, and there was quite an outcry online saying, This looks fun, this looks silly and weird, we want this, and now it's gonna get released. So hopefully people, you know, see it, as opposed to just say, we want this, and then not go see it, as the internet is quite want to do. But I I am interested, and I love Will Forte, and I just want to support him because he's just a wacky human.

When when people are telling him to be quiet in a movie theater, he just kept keeps threatening to fuck people, and they're like, they're like, that does that's not as tough as you sound, like you think it sounds. It's very silly.

Yeah, I mean, I I will definitely see it, just like I said, I love Will Forte. I think this could be a fun, weird movie, but only time will tell. Ricky, what's something else that you are excited to see this coming year?

I'm not sure if um you know anything about this one. Have you heard of the movie Hope? I have not. So this is um by a South Korean director. I um I should not try and pronounce his name because I will not be able to uh do it. Um but he he he the one film of his that I've heard of is The Wailing. Oh you seen it? Yeah, I haven't seen it. It's it's intense. Yeah, I've been wanting to see it for a while. Um but hope the trailer for it seems like so sick. Like like the trailer looks awesome. It's like a creature feature, I guess. Um but uh I'll read the the little like tagline here. Um a mysterious discovery is made on the outskirts of the remote harbor town. The residents find themselves in a desperate fight for survival against something they have never encountered before. And um when you see the uh trailer, it has like creatures, it has like humanoid-looking creatures, like monsters, it has a huge S, what appears to be a spaceship of some kind. Like, and it looks like just like kind of like post-apocalyptic, like like dystopian stuff, and like there's like um and I know that it played at Cannes, um, and it's like uh I think it's close to three hours long or something, two hours and forty minutes. But like it just looks so sick, and like the Akast is so weird because it has like some South Korean stars, and then it has Michael Fassbender, Alicia V Vikander, Taylor Russell, and Cameron Britton. Oh wow. Um so yeah, and like one of the South Korean ac actors, um, Ho Yun, uh, she was on uh Squid Game, I believe.

But um but yeah, it looks like so awesome. So I'm super excited about that one.

Yeah, I I'm definitely gonna put that on my watch list right now because uh the whaling is pretty intense, it's very brutal, it's horrifying, so I trust this director. I believe it is Na Hang Zhen, is how his name is pronounced. I could be wrong, but I believe that is correct. Um Yeah, that the Wailing is fantastic, so I would definitely go see Hope. So I'm I'm quite excited because, yeah, written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, it almost looks like uh a slightly I mean, still it looks silly and comedic in some ways, but it almost looks like uh a more dramatic Waiting for Guffman in that it is about like a community theater, but this focuses a lot more on Julian Moore and Paul Giamatti, where Julian Moore seems to be a uh like housewife who just wants to try out for community theater. She gets a part, and Paul Giamatti is the director who seems to be taking it way too seriously and way too aggressive. And as someone who's done some community theater, pretty accurate, those people think they are better than Broadway. Um the the amount of professional theater I've done where they're just like, great job, everyone. This was a like we really respect the process. Those egos are significantly smaller than community theater egos. It's crazy. And I think I just love Julian more, especially if she's playing what looks to be in this movie quite like emotionally frantic and vulnerable. And I kind of would love, I just want to see that. I think my theater brain kicks in because, like I said, I've seen a thousand community theater shows and been in a few, so I know I kind of know those people, and I think this movie did a good job capturing that uh aesthetic.

Yeah, the the trailer, from what I can tell, is Anne Hathaway as some sort of writer who got into some sort of accident, or she's in a wheelchair, she's not really talking. It's kind of hard to tell, like, she if she's mute or injured or whatever it is. Whatever the reason is, they hired Dakota Johnson to help her write her book. And at some point, Dakota Johnson starts sleeping with Josh Hartnett, who is Anne Hathaway's husband.

And then it ends up becoming more and more like a psychological thriller. Like the trailer makes it look like it's Dakota Johnson snapping and being really scared of Anne Hathaway. But what's really interesting to me about this movie that I want to see it is that it's directed by Michael Showalter. And Michael Showwalter, who I love because I was a big fan of Stella, I loved this date, so he's from that comedy background, Wet Hot American Summer. He's from that huge comedy background, and he has directed a few things, like The Big Sick and The Eyes of Tammy Faye. So he's dabbled in directing as well. But he's never directed something that seems this weird and intense and psychological, so I'm very curious how he handles this genre.

And um uh Anne Hathaway plays this mother, um, and Nicholas G Golitzine? I don't know how to pronounce his name. But um he he's like this uh this music star and uh Anne Hathaway's daughter like l loves him. Um but Anne Hathaway actually ends up like having a romance with this guy. So it's you know, like that May D December kind of ro romance. Yeah. Um but it's like I I loved it. It it was like a really sweet, like romantic comedy. Um and like yeah, because like Show Walter, like like you always think of, like I always think of him from like a wet, hot American side. Right. Um and then yeah, he's like he's doing these like serious things. It's like because I think the eyes of Tammy Faye is like fairly seriously.

Um yeah, I I'm super excited for him just because again, like I said, I I loved him from his comedy background. Like he was a huge alt comedy person in the 90s, and I mean well before I was really alive or um, you know, cognizant of his work, but I found it later in life and just fell in love with his style. Um and if for anyone who doesn't know, just go watch Wet Hot American Summer, you'll get a a good idea of typically his sense of humor. And I just I'm hoping for the best. I don't know it's I I I haven't seen a lot of Dakota Johnson films. I know critically they don't do crazy hot, but they seem to do well financially for the most part. So I'm hoping this would be kind of a nice break for her, because I love Anne Hathaway a lot. I think she's an amazing actress. So I I think hopefully they can play off each other quite well, especially seeing how that seems to be a big dynamic of the movie.

It's it's a it's not like a slapstick comedy, it is a very dark comedy, but it's they're fantastic plays. Highly recommend. That's a great choice. I did not know about that at all, Ricky. Good, good, good pull.

Uh, it looks like an animated film uh written and directed by Brad Bird with uh Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Waits. And it seems to just be like some sort of I believe it's just described as a neo-noir sci-fi mystery film. And that's all I really know about it. I've seen some screenshots and it looks cool, but I I just kind of like that genre, and I thought the animation looked fine and nice, and I also love that Tom Waits is in it because I love the idea of Tom Waits auditioning for things.

So when I was looking into it a bit more, there there the pieces are there from like maybe. So it's being directed by uh uh Kaitao Sakurai, who directed most of the Eric Andre show, if not all of it. And then a f oh weird, right?

So the writers are a guy named TJ Fixman who looking into him, he wrote for the actual Ratchet and Clake video games, and then I think some of the movie. Uh a guy named Gary Doberman, who, from what I can tell, he wrote a lot of horror films, like he wrote on It, the Annabelle franchise, but he also wrote the Until Dawn movie, so another video game to movie adaptation. And then a guy named Dallin uh Moussan, hopefully I'm pronouncing that correctly, who seemed to be kind of newer, maybe a bit more in the superhero genre, like Captain America Brave New World, and then I believe he wrote some Falcon in the Winter Soldier. So what you have there is some people that have written video game adaptations and video games, and then you have someone who wrote big, action-y, blockbuster-y things, which would probably lend itself quite well to Street Fighter, where there's theoretically going to be a lot of action. The cast is where you get the cast. The cast is where I get really, really concerned. Not that there's like a bunch of bad actors, but you go, hmm, I'm curious, because you have Jason Momoa who's in it, Eric Andre, 50 Cent, and Cody Rhodes are in it. I'm more interested in the main three of Ryu Ken and Shan Lee. Because you have Andrew Koji, who's playing Ryu, who's in Bullet Train. That's the only movie I've seen him in, and I've enjoyed Bullet Train. Uh Noah Centenillo, who plays Ken. Uh I haven't seen him in anything.

Um the the biggest movie I saw was probably Black Adam, and then he was in all those like To All the Boys I Loved Netflix movies. And when I saw some of the when I saw the trailer, one, the song kicks ass. Um it's called Punk Tactics, and I'm blanking on the name of the the musicians, but that song is really good and super hype and has very like 90s Beastie Boys vibes. Uh so I that was that's fun. The the actual costumes they did a pretty good job of of making it like the video game, but also not just like a copy-paste. So there's something there, but the question is why haven't there been that many good video game movies? And is this gonna be on what side of the the video game good movie spectrum? That's where I'm gonna get a little concerned, but I I will probably still see it because I do love Street Fighter. It's one of my favorite fighting genre games, so we'll see.

And um Jane Schoenbrunn, like very crazy films, like like they're making some off the wall stuff. I saw that TV Glow is very fun. Um I I think you would enjoy them. Um there's another one like uh Everybody's Going to the World's Fair or something. I think that was the other film. I'm not familiar with that one either. Um, but yeah, it's like very strange. But um like I I understand a lot of people like they wouldn't be for for them, but it's like this film um just seems like it's up our alley, like like you know, this like horror like thing. So I I'm excited to uh see that one and the weirdness of it. Oh, and Sarah Sherman's in it too.
