Uh man, the last time I came. No, no, go for it, go for it. The last time I came, I was like, I don't know, maybe I'll get a private studio or because that clip comes out a lot on my TikTok and I see it or like for real? Yeah, it comes out a lot. Yeah. Or like when I'm talking about the the top tier or whatever. And I just like, I don't know, dog. It just it just like happened. Like it just the opportunity just got thrown at me out of nowhere. Like legit out of nowhere. After doing the podcast and just talking, one of my homies was like, hey, um, I have this, there's like this studio that's gonna be for rent. It's open already, it's painted and everything, it's ready to go. Like, you should come check it out. And I was like, uh, maybe I'll check it out. But who did this guy where where did this guy come out? He owns a body shop. Well, he runs a body shop right next to that area. The bike place? Is it a bike place? No, that's next door. Oh, this is the body shop, like downmore. It's downmore.

But he just he just called you out of the customer. Oh, okay. I cut his hair. Gotcha.

So it all just goes like that, bro. Like through the customers. He he called me out of nowhere, and I was trying to get my truck from my mom's crib because I'm trying to sell it right now. The one hand broke down. So I'm trying to get rid of that. And then he was like, Well, park it at my shop. He's like, Why park it at my shop? And then let's go look at this studio for you, bro. Let's see, you might like it. It's cheap. So the rent was like, what I was paying at top tier for my chair and booth is the same price as this whole building. So I was like, Well, let's go look at it. It's a no-brainer. Went to go look at it, bro. I should you not went to go look at the shop. It was empty, the lights weren't even on, no AC, nothing. We walked in there, and he goes, Whoa. And I was all, oh shit. Like I felt like all goosebumps everywhere, bro, everywhere. I was like, You feel that? He's all damn, and I don't know this dude. I've already got his hair for like not even a year, bro. Maybe like seven months I've known him.

What was I telling you, Doc, when I was cutting your hair, I was uh when you were cutting my hair, I was uh trying to get the the right saying together, and it's um, you know, uh when opportunity comes, bro, it's too late to prepare. But you've been working for this this whole time, and boom, yeah, there it goes, bro. And the way that you said too, like you were like, bro, it wasn't even all all that like all that difficult for me to start run up and get up and running. I was just like, because you were ready to go, bro. You can't, you can't, you know, you can't, I don't know, like you can't teach that you just gotta be ready to go, and the only way that you're ready, me and Xavier were just talking about it. It's weird. We were talking about Kobe, and I was like, Doug, he was like a dickhead, you know, he was an arrogant dude, but at the same time, he was so arrogant and he was so sure of himself, so confident because of the preparation that he spent, you know what I'm saying? So he walked around with you know, like just supreme confidence because he knew who he was and he knew what it was. And I don't know, the universe starts walk uh just unfolding for you, dog, and it starts working in your favor when it's just like, oh man, this dude's gonna get a shop. So then it just opens up.

It really wasn't dog. I really was just gonna like just be at top tier and then see what's up with the teaching thing, like I said in the last episode, right? And I appreciate you bringing back on, bro. Like, because I feel like, damn, you've been having all these people, and like the first person to come back is me. And that to me, though, that's like that's like an honor to me. Because I get to come back on and like get people the updates, you know, and and talk about what's going on in my life now as opposed to then. It was like it was still a great show, and I had I still had like a direction that I was going in, right? I always do, like I always know what I'm gonna do, like in some way, right? It might not be all right there in front of me, but I'm like, nah, I have this, that that I want to do, and the fragrance barber thing and all that. I've been having it, I have it in my head, bro, constantly, right? And I got my babies and I got my life going on, I got my girl, and it's great and great. And it's just like I don't know like the exact direction, but I I never veer off the path either. You know what I'm saying? So that's where I feel like going that way. Just no, I'm not gonna go anywhere else. I'm gonna stay right here, bro, and stay focused on what's important to me and and like just stay focused and driven on my livelihood, and that's what's gonna drive me there. And the dog, it just the universe just said, here. Hey, you want to shop? There you go. There it is. I just talked about it, bro. I literally, like, maybe two days later, or maybe a month afterwards, a dude was like, I got the shop, bro. It's opening up, it was a salon. They remodeled it. Let's go look at it. We looked at it, went in there, there was nothing in there, and well, now you see it the way it looks now. And it's like, or it came together. It's only been a month, one month, bro.

Out of nowhere. That's it's awesome, man, because I didn't even anticipate this happening. And it's it's funny too that you say that that the podcast is doing things that I didn't think that it was gonna do. I was saying Xavier, I'm so happy for you, man. I was so happy for all of my peeps. I just had Marcus, who's running for district for Senate. Yeah, that's dope. What? Crazy, man. That's fire. So, anyway, and um, you know, not only am I documenting what's going on, y'all are documenting what's going on in y'all's lives too. And y'all are my pee. So obviously, we're gonna have you on again, and it's gonna be like you can also document what's going on in your life at the same time while it's it's just simultaneously happening together, and that's what I've been wanting this whole time. For we need to have it documented some way or another. Everybody who's part of my life and everybody who's doing something, and this chapter in our lives, I think, man, everybody's kind of like taking a stride, you know, like like the hard work, hard work's not done by any means, but the 30s were like, you know, we're just grinding it out, and and the 40s, it's it seems like, man, the fruits of our labors finally kind of showing up, or at least the beginnings of what's gonna be the major milestone in our lives.

Yeah, though, because I didn't even think that it was gonna happen. So now that it's happening, I'm just like, well, and this is where people, this is where people mess up in life, right? They get one break, they get one chance, one whatever, they're they're whatever they're gonna get, right? Some people never get it, and they just keep grinding and grinding and grinding and grinding now.

But you think they never get it?

Some people don't. Ex, you think they never get it? I think a majority get it. That's a good way to put it. I think if you if you keep striving for it and you don't give up, like you said before, if you don't give up, that's when you get it. But if you just kind of like, uh life's or whatever, and you don't you don't get blessed or you don't get the opportunities, dog. And I just feel like now that I got that, right? As I said, people make this mistake, they'll get something and they'll be like, all right, I'm cool right here. No, no, no, no. That's where people make the mistake, and that's where they just fall short, or they're like, maybe like they're just complacent, bro, and it's not good enough for me. I don't like that. Now that I got this place, now that I got this place, I'm like, okay, that happened out of nowhere, but how am I gonna go on to the next thing now?

Well, I agree to a certain extent. I think it's kind of like an oxymoron, though, that you can't get the next or attain to the next level in your life if you're not really striving for it. So you're not gonna get that blessing. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, but when you do or whatnot, I I think it's obvious to keep on doing whatever got you there. And then when you get it too, it's not that you're not satisfied or you're not happy, but it's like, man, what else is out there? What else can I do? Can I get another shop? Can I get uh, you know, whatever. You know what I'm saying? That's right now. Yeah, exactly.

So it's not presses right now. It's like, how am I gonna move on to I've always had this idea of this like open a smaller shop, run it by myself, and then eventually get walking in there. Of course, people are gonna start coming, then get another barber, maybe one or two or three barbers, and then go from there and then make it make another one like that, like four chairs, maybe the next one, six chairs, maybe. People want to open up these shops, but it's like 14 chairs, and it's like there's no barbers to fill them, and barbers that ain't working hard and they ain't making it, they don't have clientele, whatever, no shade. I'm just saying, like I feel like a locally owned spot, uh a smaller, more humble location is gonna get you those people in the door faster than people that have the crazy barbershops on people that can't even cut hair. That's how I feel. And that's just me, like my opinion.

I've always had that theory. No, no, no, no, but that's a totally valid opinion because why? That is an opinion based off of a professional barber that's how many years in? Yeah, 20. So you're in a position to make that call. You're not just out here talking some shit and being a hater or whatever, you know, people might say or whatever, like, oh no, hell no, at this shop or whatever. You know what I'm saying? Bro, you are in a position to make that call because you've seen it all and you've done it all on that front. Yeah, so therefore, your vision and what you're looking to do, it's like long overdue.

I wouldn't take a chance, bro, if I didn't have the support system that I have right now, like the home life that I have right now, and then also the customers that I have right now. Because everybody now, bro, like anybody who had back in the day who was like just knocking off or getting trashed or at the strip club or whatever they're doing, those people are not in my life anymore, dog. Those are not my customers no more, bro. Yes, I am. My because my customers now is like they're like solid dads, they're hard workers, you know, they got families, they got their wives now, they got married to them, or their kids that I met when they were 17 years old, and now they're grown men and they have families of their own, kids of their own. So they're all freaked out on this whole like, whoa, you gotta shop, bro. That's crazy. And I'm like, it's pretty crazy, but it's it's not crazy, dog. You know, it's not, bro. So it was meant to happen. It was gonna happen regardless. So you're not you're not surprised, motherfucker. Right, no? Yeah, I'm surprised in the way it went about because I really didn't like plan for it, and I didn't like do it, but I'm not surprised.

But that's that's the way that God works, bro. When you're just doing what you should be doing, it's like, oh man, another day plugging away, another day, this and that. It'll happen, and you're like, oh man, I didn't even expect it today. I knew it was coming, but I didn't expect it today. Um, there's this part in Kobe's documentary, man, and it's called um Muse. Have you seen that one? It's in black and white. I think so. Have you seen it, X? The Kobe documentary, bro. This documentary needs to be more accessible. It's what's showtime. Oh, that's why people, but you know me, I'm gonna find it. You know, I'm like Kobe, like for life, right? And there's this part, bro, and he it's it's it's funny too, man. Whenever I'm trying to articulate a feeling or a sentiment, and I don't know how to say it. And when I hear it, I'm like, mm, mm-hmm. You don't know that one either, right? That one's uh blue streak. What did I say that for the other day? I just thought, like, because somebody was doing something, I was just like, man, stop. I was just like, hitting my elbow, dog. Stop. Anyway, going back to the documentary of Kobe, um, he says, man, um that he was just like, man, people ask me, like, man, you won the championship, and this is back in the day, or the you won the three-peat, I think is what it is. He's there, like, are you are you happy? Are you surprised? And he's like, Not really. Because I don't know, like, kind of how I feel because I always saw it coming. Right. I lived this this moment and my and my dreams and my thoughts for so long when I'm shooting around, when I'm doing anything, when I'm training, that when it finally happens, I'm like, yeah.

But like I even said in the last episode, I said, open them up. You asked me, you can do your own thing, open your own shop, whatever. I said, it's probably on the back burner right now. I think I'm looking more towards the education thing. Because it's just like I said that, bro. I had already said that because that's kind of what I was thinking in my head, like, you know what? Maybe not open this shop because I don't really have the bread to do all that right now. And let me just try to do the the the um the teaching thing because it'll be easier for me to do that and then get that income and then also still kill my clients on the on the evening and on the weekend, so I could like double up and get the benefits for 1k, all that stuff, like an actual job, right? So let me do that for now, and then maybe a shop will develop after I do those two incomes, and then I could get a shop and I can get a spot that I want. But since this happened, I was like, okay, well, let me try it. And then when I got in there and started cutting hair, like the first day I cut hair in there, bro, I had no AC. I had no AC, and I had just my chair and a cart and my clippers, and everybody came to get haircuts, bro. And I made like a lot of money that day, and they were so like, I was like, man, I'm sorry, bro. I'm sorry, like it's hot, the hair was everywhere. They're like, I don't care. One person said, Look, bro, if there's a chair and you're cutting hair, I'm gonna be in it. And I was like, Yeah, that's what's up. I was so that made me feel like, yeah, I'm good here.

I was telling your boy uh just the other day, the one that I ran into uh well yesterday, I'm sorry. Um, I was telling him, How long you been getting cut by T? And he'll just like I don't know, man. I was like, Did you go to the Converse house? Oh, because I said we go all the way to Converse to get cut by you, bro. Yeah, so that was holding you down because you're a barber, guy.

And that's what like that's just that's where I'm at with the whole, like right now. Like I was worried a little bit, but it wasn't that much to get in there. And like I had money, so I was just like, okay, well, I'm gonna go ahead and do this. And then of course I had my girl helping me with that, and she like helped me decorate and would get stuff for the shop. I'm like, no, do it, do it, do it. So like I didn't have that before, bro. I didn't have someone that was like, nah, you got it, like, do it. I had like a different, it was like, uh, are you sure you want to do that? Like, very, you know, everything was questionable. Everything was up in the air, like, I don't know, maybe you shouldn't. Like, and it's different now because I have that self-belief, but now I have someone that's like, Yes, do that shit, bro. Do it. Um, and you guys, my customers, of course.

Well, I'm doing something different, so I'm like, it's more like a private studio, but it's open to the public. How long did I kick it yesterday? Like two hours. Like two hours. Outside haircut, like an hour. What did I say? It feels like uh feels like hours. Like it is ours.

I told everybody too, like, I didn't open a shop because I was trying to like open a shop and make more money, and I'm trying to be this like mogul. I opened a shop because the opportunity was given to me, and also I felt like there'll be times in the barber shop, bro, where I was at, no shade, like I said, but I just feel like it wasn't intimate enough or private enough for my customers that have been driving to Converse, driving to the West Side House, and they've been following me forever, bro. And I know they're like inner life, you know, and it's like people have emotional moments at the shop with me, dog, and they're confiding in me as their barber, but as their friend for the last 10 years, and they're crying, and they're having these, like they're actually lit, I've had little people cry, bro, literal tears in my chair, talking about things that are going they're going through, relationship issues, you know, drama, child support, whatever it is, dog. And they're and they're going through it, and I'm like, damn, like this shouldn't be for everybody to see, bro. This is for me and and this person, bro, to have that moment because I've been through it myself. What do you think it is about a haircut that has people open up like that? I don't know what it is.

It's something to do with being a man, but it's also the person where the person that's cutting it. It's not just the haircut or itself. It's like no, for sure. Yeah, because I because I I never ask for those things, bro. I just kind of like talk.

You know the way I am a cut hair, I'm just talking so chilling. Well, me, me and Xavier are talking about like the differences between men and women and the conversations that are had, right? And we don't have conversation, it's always like very surface. Like, hey, did you play uh Call of Duty? No, have you seen it? Oh, like the way we've been talking this whole time. We was in the gym today, yeah. The way that we've been talking this whole time, but there's very few times where you have to sit down and you have to kind of decompress, and that's what they're doing when they're getting a haircut, yeah. So, therefore, that's why this person becomes their psychologist, psychologizer, therapist, yeah, everything, bro. Yeah, I know for sure. And I've been they like especially too if they're in the right hands, they'll they'll confide, bro. And you know why? Because they want to, and they trust you for sure. They want to, they want to let it out one way or another, but we just don't know how to as men. So therefore, that's one of the you know, like that's one of the untapped spots, or you know what I'm saying, where it's just you and that person and just nothing else to talk about about what's going on. What's really going on? What's really going on?

I had a customer that came, him and his brother, they always come together, bro. They've always come together. His name's Xavier too. Uh Nick and Xavier, my boys, right? And when I met him, he was 15 at Fresh Heads over there on Ingram, right? That was my first shop that I was at in that area. And he when I met him, he was there and he was like, man, like I've gone to all the barbers in here, bro. But I just stuck with you because like you're just cool and like you like rock and you're just like you're just a cool ass dude. I'm like, that's what's up, appreciate you. Like my haircut, of course, right? So he still comes to me, bro. This is like eight years ago, nine years ago already. And he still comes to me. And he got this, he came to the shop the other day. First, I haven't seen him like in haircut like every two months, bro. Like he their hair gets crazy long, right? Like, they're like kids still, they're probably like 21 or something like that. They're not really that old, maybe a little older than that, but they come in, they're like, oh man, it's dope in here. And then my boy, he doesn't talk a lot, bro. He doesn't, but he talks to me a lot, especially like in the privacy of my own home back in the day, cutting hair at the barber school a little bit. But at top tier, he was like real quiet. And I noticed that, bro. I noticed it a lot. Like, cause he's kind of like not about that. Like, he's not very loud, he wants to just chop it up here about music, or you know, he's all about rock, a lot about rock, bro. And he came and he was all like, Man, I really like it here, bro. Like, he's all I love this place. And I was all damn, like to hear that from somebody that I've been cutting for so long, and that shit that like makes me emotional. It like blows me away. Like, I love this place. Like, to me, I'm just like, it feels like my crib, it feels like I'm cutting at the crib, you know. It's not like the most lavish shot, but it's it's nice in there, and it's like I'm still working on it. But to hear someone say, bro, I love this place, like I want to get a haircut more often because it's here now, that's dope, and it's not at the other spot. No, no, no, uh talking shit about the other spot, but they just they weren't comfortable. And here they're like super comfortable, bro. Like, man, I love it here. Like, I put what do you want to listen to? What I want to listen to? Yeah, what do you want to listen to? Like, what you want? Play whatever. Here, get my phone, turn the music on. What they want, what do you want to watch? Like that, bro. And that is what I've been wanting this whole time that I had had it, and I finally have it now, and it was just given to me. I got blessed with it, and I'm just like, I'm gonna, I'm gonna do it again and do it again and do it again and do it again. Now I'm like, okay, I'm gonna make another location eventually, maybe like next year, even I'm gonna do it fast. It's gonna happen fast because now that I have the opportunity, the doors open, I'm just gonna like go through it, bro. Yeah, as hard as I can, you know. So that's where I'm at. And it's fire, bro. I love it. I'm I'm so in love with that little place and it's tight.
