Deep in the woods, where the lanterns glow along quiet paths, there's a small place called Lantern Hollow, and that's where our story begins. Hello, and welcome to the Lantern Hollow Podcast, a series of fun stories for kids that spark the imagination, inspire resilience, and remind us of the good things that matter most. These are stories I first told to my own kids and now telling them to you. Tonight's story is about a duck named Woozy Duck and her new best friend, Baby Quackwack. The morning sun peeked through the trees as Woozy Duck woke up and stretched her wings. Wake up, baby Quackwack, she said cheerfully. From under his shell, a small voice replied, I'm awake. Slowly Baby Quackwack peeked his head out. He blinked and looked around. He was still in Woozy Duck's room, still safe, still not quite sure what he was. Woozy Duck smiled at him. Big day today, she said. What kind of day? Baby Quackwack asked. A day to discover, Woozy Duck said proudly. Baby Quackwack tilted his head. What are we gonna discover? Woozy Duck grinned. You they walked outside into the duck village. The other ducks waddled by, chatting and laughing and quacking. Patty Duck nodded politely. Ivy duck smiled warmly. Good morning, baby quackwack, she said sweetly. Baby Quackwack smiled back. He liked it here. He really did. But deep down he still wondered, Am I really a duck? Let's play, Woozy Duck said. She ran ahead. Baby Quackwack followed slowly. They reached a small open clearing where some of the other ducks were playing a game. They were jumping and spinning and balancing on one foot. Woozy Duck joined right in. Come on, she called. Try it, baby Quackwack. Baby Quackwack looked at the others. Then he looked down at himself. His little feet in his round shell. I don't think I can do that, he said quietly. Woozy Duck turned back. Yes you can, she said with confidence. Baby Quackquack shook his head. But I'm not like you. Woozy Duck walked over. She bent down and looked him right in the eyes. Yes you can, baby quackwack. You can do all kinds of things. Just then a loud crack echoed from across the clearing. Everyone turned. A tall stack of wooden crates had tipped over near the edge of the pond, and right in the middle of the mess was a tiny duckling, stuck, wobbling, trying not to fall into the water. Oh no, Ivy Duck gasped. She's going to slip. The crate shifted again. The duckling squeaked. I can't get out. The other ducks hesitated. It was too wobbly, too tricky, too risky. Baby Quackquack felt his heart beat faster. He looked at the little duckling, then at the crates, then at his own feet. I can't help. I don't even know how to stand up like them. But then he remembered Woozy Duck's voice. You can do all kinds of things, baby quackquack. Baby Quackwack took a deep breath. What if? he whispered to himself, I just try. Slowly, very slowly, Baby Quackquack pushed himself up. His little legs wobbled. His shell shifted. His balance tipped. But then he stood. Not perfectly, not strongly, but he stood. I'm doing it, he whispered. Woozy Duck's eyes lit up. I knew you could do it, she cheered. And then something even more surprising happened. Baby Quackquack took a step. Then another. And suddenly everything felt different. He felt stronger. He felt faster. Like his legs knew what to do. Like his body had been waiting for this moment. In his imagination, the entire world changed. The clearing became a training ground. The crates became obstacles, the wind whooshed around him, and Baby Quackquack felt something brand new. I feel fast, he said. Woozy Duck gasped. Of course you are. Baby Quackquack crouched low, focused, and then zoom! He darted forward, quick, light, and precise like a tiny ninja. He leapt onto one crate, balanced, and then jumped again, dodged a wobbling board, and reached the duckling just as she started to slip. I've got you, he said. He gently nudged her towards safety, then guided her down step by careful step, until she was back on solid ground, safe and sound. The clearing erupted in cheers. You did it, Ivy Duck said. That was amazing, Dillboy Duck added. Woozy Duck ran over. I knew you could do it. It's like you're a ninja turtle, she said. Baby Quackquack blinked. I didn't know I could do that. Woozy Duck smiled at him. Sometimes you don't know until you just try. Baby Quackquack looked down at his feet, then at his show. Then looked back at Woozy Duck. Do you think I'm a duck? He asked. Woozy Duck thought for a moment. Then said, I think you're exactly who you're supposed to be. And I do think you look weird for a duck, but you're part of my family. So yes, I do think you're a duck. Baby Quackwack smiled. He liked that answer. That night, as the lanterns glowed softly around Lantern Hollow, Baby Quackquack snuggled into his spot beside Woozy Duck. I stood today, he said softly. You did, Woozy Duck replied. And I moved really fast, he added. You did that too. Baby Quackquack smiled. I think I really might be a ninja turtle. Woozy Duck nodded very seriously. I think you might be too. And that was another adventure of Woozy Duck and Baby Quackback. Because sometimes you don't discover who you are all at once. Sometimes you discover one brave step at a time. Thanks for joining me on the Legend of the Podcast. I'm glad you came along for this adventure. And remember, you might be able to do. Because sometimes curve starts with simply trying. And who knows? Maybe with a little baby quack inside you too. I'll see you next time.
