Welcome to your Morning Berthoud Brief - delivering the latest local news, upcoming events, and noteworthy happenings to keep you connected to the community.
Good morning, Berthed, and happy Tuesday. Welcome back to your morning birthed brief. As always, I'm your host, Trent Bootish. Let's get into it. First up, it is election day today. It is the last day to turn in your ballots, folks. Make your way down to the ballot drop-off box at Bertha Town Howl, located at 807 Mountain Avenue, and deposit your vote. Make your voice heard. Next up, we're turning to the ongoing Colorado wildfire battles across the state. Current wildfires in Colorado surpass 1,000 acres in total as of Monday evening. That indicates a very serious dry spell, everybody. Severe wildfires continued to burn across Colorado, with firefighters battling blazes in Custard, Dolores, Mesa, Lake, and Urey counties. The largest, the Snyder Fire, near the Colorado-Utah border, turned deadly over the weekend. Three firefighters unfortunately lost their lives after the fire overran their position despite the deployment of emergency fire shelters, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Several Colorado communities canceled their fireworks shows this upcoming 4th of July, including Durango, Vale, Grand Lake, Ure, Rangeley, Fruta, Alamos, Montrose, Steamboat Lake, Burlake State Parks, and as of last night, Estes Park. To end on a lighter note, if you have a hanker in to sing tonight, you're in luck. Bricks on Main, located at 471 Main Street in Longmont, is hosting their open mic night. Sign up begins at 5 30, so make sure to get in there and grab a time slot. Well, that's all for your Tuesday morning brief. This has been Trent Bootish signing off. Have a great day, Berthin, and we'll talk to y'all tomorrow.
