Welcome to your Morning Berthoud Brief - delivering the latest local news, upcoming events, and noteworthy happenings to keep you connected to the community.
Good morning, Berthed, and happy Monday. We hope you all had a great weekend. Welcome back to your morning birth brief. I'm your host, Trent Bootish. Let's get into it. First up, if you're looking for something fun to do with the little ones, the Birthda Community Library is hosting musical moments every Monday at 4 p.m. This program is specifically designed for preschool aged children and includes music, singing, learning, and play. Best of all, no registration is required. Just stop by and join the fun. Next up, firefighters continue making progress on the Aspen Acres Fire burning in Custer and Pueblo counties, about 10 miles northwest of Rye. The wildfire has now grown to nearly 100,000 acres and is 35% contained. Since it started on June 29th, it has destroyed more than 850 structures and has become the seventh largest wildfire in Colorado history. Hundreds of residents were forced to evacuate communities including Beulah, Colorado City, and Rye. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported. A big thank you to all the firefighters and first responders continuing to work tirelessly to protect Colorado communities. Finally, don't forget, the deadline to purchase tickets for the Pasta Benefit Dinner supporting injured Birth and Fire Protection District Lieutenant Ken Bradley and his family is today, June 13th. The fundraiser will take place on Thursday, July 23rd at 5.30 p.m. at the Trailhead Cafe inside Grace Place. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children, and children under two eat free. All proceeds will go directly to the Bradley family as Lieutenant Bradley continues his recovery after the serious head-on crash he was involved in while driving to work in Berthood back in May. Additional sponsorship opportunities are also available for those looking to help support the family. Well, that's all for your Monday morning brief. This Bentrime Boot is signing off. Have a great day, Berthood, and we'll talk to y'all tomorrow.
