Good morning, Berthaid, and happy Wednesday. Welcome back to your morning birthed brief. As always, I'm your host, Trent Bootish. Let's get into it. Coloradans know it's deep into hiking season, and with tons of outdoor fun comes a ton more responsibility. It's lightning and thunder season, July through September in the high country, and all hikers need to be aware of the danger they face as they climb in altitude. According to thehike seeker.com, hikers should plan to descend before noon, meaning you'll want to start earlier in the day to achieve your hiking goals. If you do get caught in thunder and lightning, the best way to handle the situation is to squat on insulating material like a backpack or sleeping pad, keep your feet together to minimize step voltage, balance on the balls of your feet, not flat footed, and cover your ears and keep your head low. Separation between yourself and your fellow hikers becomes crucial during lightning encounters. Spread your group members 15 to 100 feet apart to prevent multiple injuries from single lightning strikes. Designate one person to monitor time and coordinate movement when conditions improve. Enjoy Mother Nature and stay safe. Up next, don't forget to read the Surveyor's one-on-one interview with Manny Rutnell, the winner of the Democrat primaries to represent District 8. The Surveyor's very own Emma Hoax got the scoop on Rutnell's plan in regards to tax cuts, gas prices, and challenging District 8 incumbent Gabe Evans. Make sure you take a look at that article out on Thursday. Looking for something fun to do on Wednesday nights? Head on over to the 120 Bar and Grill in downtown Loveland for an evening of local entertainment at Open Mike Night with Michael Capshaw. From 6:30 to 9.30 p.m., performers will take the stage to share live music, stand-up comedy, and original poetry in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're looking to discover local talent, cheer on a friend, or simply enjoy a night out, there's something for everyone. Best of all, admission is free. So grab some dinner, settle in with your favorite drink, and enjoy an evening of creativity and community at the 120 Bar and Grill located at 120 North Lincoln Avenue in Loveland. Well, everybody, that's all for your Wednesday morning brief. This has been Trent Bootish signing off. Have a great day, Bertha, and we'll talk to y'all tomorrow.
