Good morning, Berthed, and happy Friday. Congratulations everybody, we made it. Welcome back to your morning birthday brief. I'm your host, Trent Bootish. Let's go ahead and wrap up the week. A brush fire in southern Colorado has burned thousands of acres and forced closures at Fishers Peak State Park near Trinidad. The post fire started Wednesday night and was burning on Raton Mesa near the Colorado-New Mexico border. By Thursday, the fire had burned 4,705 acres and moved into the southern portion of the state, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. All trails at Fishers Peak State Park are closed as safety precautions and to give firefighting crews room to work. Berthid High School will hold its maroon and white football scrimmage Saturday, August 15th at 10 30 AM, ahead of the 2026 football season. The event will give fans a preview of the Spartans before the regular season gets underway. Surveyor editor Will Cornelius will be at the scrimmage reporting on the event, so keep an eye out for his coverage. Go Spartans. If you aren't into football, the Birth of the Library will hold its semi-annual book sale Saturday, August 15th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., giving residents a chance to build their home libraries while supporting the local library. Adult books and other items will cost $1 each, while children's items will cost 25 cents each. The library is accepting donations through Friday, August 14th, including fiction and nonfiction books, children's books, DVDs, and audiobooks, but asks residents to avoid damaged or outdated materials. Donations should be packed in sturdy boxes or reusable bags and dropped off inside of the library during regular hours, as items left outside will be discarded.
