And there were some like popular fighters that went on there. Like Jorge Masvidal went on there before he was like Jorge Masvidal. He's like a very accomplished MMA fighter now who owns a bare knuckle MMA league. But he's had like a great career. And um he was on Kimbo Slice's YouTube channel when he was like fighting back in uh damn, I can't remember the organization. He was fighting somewhere. He's part of a crazy highlight. He got choked out by a reverse triangle with the dude standing up. And he or he was standing up, the dude had a reverse triangle on him. I think it was Anthony Pettis. I might be making all this up though. I'm not though. I have most of this right. I can't I just can't remember the organization.

SPEAKER_02He's not like a super well-known fighter. He he had like a he had like a heyday a couple years ago. He was popping for a while. Very you know, like Miami dude, talked a lot of shit. Great, great hands. But he got real popular, so this dude named Ben Askren came in. Ben Askren was a really accomplished wrestler and um like collegiate wrestler, not like WWE, like we were talking about, like wrestling, like freestyle wrestling. And um what do you mean? Like the sport, like if a high school has a wrestling school. Oh, okay. Yeah, like Greco Roman or freestyle wrestling, like wrestling wrestling, not wrestling. Um wrestling. Wrestling's different, but he's a very accomplished wrestler, and he was fighting in Bellator, and I think PFL, or no, maybe one championship, murdering dudes, just taking them down. No one could stop him. Great wrestler, didn't have the best hands, but just a really good fighter all around. And um came to the UFC and Jorge Masvedal and him started talking a lot of shit. I forget the initial, they probably just got matched up and were like, whatever. Ben was kind of an inflammatory guy. He would just like talk shit. So did Jorge. And um, they built this fight up for like, I think almost a year, like really built it up. These two hate each other, they're gonna fight, yada yada. Ben, I think at this point, had never been beaten. He'd maybe had like one or two fights in the UFC, undefeated, champion and other organizations, comes to the UFC, gets paired with Jorge. Jorge's been knocking dudes out left and right. So they're like, okay, we're gonna partner or match you up with this dude, Ben. Great fight coming up. They finally get there. Three seconds in, Ben sprints at him. No, no, no. Jesus. I'd be scared. I think Ben sprints at him. He knew the takedown was coming, is what it comes down to. He knew the takedown was coming. So as soon as Ben changes levels, flying knee from Jorge knocked him out cold. And like four four seconds, I think it's still the fastest UFC knockout, and that like skyrocketed him. So now he's like, or he was super popular from that. And this guy's name was Ben Askren. Ben Askren, yeah. That's the guy that got knocked out. Okay. He was the wrestler. Ben Askren and then eventually petered out. Didn't really have a great career in the UFC. Still a great fighter. But now Ben Askren has some like weird health issues, and he died like four times. Like he keeps flatlining. He's good now, I think, but he had some weird shit come up, and then there's like this whole story where him and Jorge buried the hatchet and they did like a podcast together or something. So that's cool. A little full circle moment, huh? Can I show you the knockout real quick? Is it is that bad podcasting? It's four seconds. No, no, no, that's fine. I'm gonna show you the I might have gotten the build-up wrong. I hope I didn't, but it was it was a lot of build-up. And I remember the flying knee. I watched it live. It was insane. It was one of those moments that's like, holy shit. He was doing this really cool thing where he's leaning across the cage or leaning against it, waiting for the fight to start. SPEAKER_02Alright, I'm a I'm gonna should I turn the volume up? Yeah, do it. I want you to I want you to hear it. Alright. All right. So this is the fight. They finally got to the fight.
SPEAKER_00You can bring the audio towards here. Oh, damn. You literally weren't kidding. That was like 0.4 seconds. I think it was four seconds. So Jorge ran at him.
SPEAKER_02Jorge ran at him, knew that Ben was gonna be scared of the hand fights pretty much, the like boxing, because he didn't want any part of that, knew he was gonna change levels to go for a takedown, baited him into changing levels, jumped with a flying knee, knocks him out cold. Then follows up with two nasty shots on the ground. Ugh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, brutal. Yeah, that's what I noticed too. Every time like little knockouts like happen like that, and then you get punched twice. Yeah, the person's just doing their job. But you're like, what the heck? Like, why do you keep like why? It's brutal. It's a brutal sport. It's really bad.
SPEAKER_02It's a beautiful, beautiful sport, but it can be very brutal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, that's like with any, but like that's those specific context sports. Yeah. Those can kill you. Literally. Oh, yeah. Literally kill you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Boxing has had more deaths, but it's also been around a lot longer. But boxing has a weird thing. So like with concussions, once you have one, you should probably not get another one like pretty soon after, like right away. So boxing has the standing eight count, which is crazy. So like in the UFC or MMA in general, like if you get knocked down, you can get followed up, and then if you're in dangerous enough condition or bad enough condition, the guy can start peppering you with shots and then the fight's over. Boxing, it's just punches. So if I hit you with a really solid check hook and catch you right on the jaw and drop you, technically in the M in MMA, that would either be fight over or get followed up fight over. Not a ton of brain damage, but you're still getting fucked up. In boxing, you have the chance to to like meet the count, and then they start counting, and you can stand up and you're still dazed. And then you know they check you and they check the hands and stuff, but it's it's still like like Mexican fighters, they just they're known for like crazy chins, and they'll just keep getting up. But they're taking shots and shots and shots.
SPEAKER_00And they have a point system as well, too.
SPEAKER_02Like with it's the same point system for MMA and boxing, which is dumb. But yeah, they adopted the one from boxing really early on and they haven't updated it since, and it's it's the cause of a lot of controversy in MMA because it's a very hard, it's a very complex sport to judge.
SPEAKER_00I was about to say, like, I mean, I can see when you can like judge a a jab or like a kick and miss and whatever, but and and like uh but how would you judge like a takedown or like uh that's that's the debate.
SPEAKER_02So the UFC adopted boxing's it's called a 10 point musk system. Musk or must, one of those. And um I think it's musk. Musk sounds. I think it's musk. Right. So like in boxing, if if one boxer barely it's hard to explain. So like if a boxer has a better round but not like a way better round, it's a 10 9 round. He got 10, the other guy got nine points. Right? If it's a runaway, the boxer like destroyed him that whole round, but it didn't finish, it's a 10 8 round. He got 10. And the other guy got eight. So it's way more detrimental in the long run to the final score. MMA adopted the same thing, but it's way harder to give a guy a 10-9 or a 10-8. Draws, I think, should be more common. Like a even just like a draw of a round. Like there's a lot of rounds in MMA where it's a lot of feeling each other out. Both guys land two or three decent shots. Maybe someone attempts to take down, nothing happens. That should be a draw. But they kind of have to lean towards the guy that was more aggressive, you know, was pushing the pace a little more, and then he gets a 10-9, which it's just it's a little, I don't know, it's a little squirrely, but they'll figure it out.
SPEAKER_00What are your thoughts on uh power slaps? I can't say the word, but it's dumb.
SPEAKER_02It's very dumb. I can't, like it's dumb. It's the dumbest thing.
SPEAKER_00I still watch it, like not not. I've never actually seen a full episode or anything. Like I've seen the whole UFC fight, but I've seen nothing but clips. Yeah. And I'm like, how it's dumb. How are you?
SPEAKER_02Taking unprotected shots to the head is a it's a bad thing. Unprotected hits. That's what that was. It's a very bad move. That was my thing.

SPEAKER_00I was like, I feel like you get more concussions and more any more than anything doing that.
SPEAKER_02It's just yeah, I don't I don't know what the uh I mean, I'm sure there's skill to it. Like I doubt that I could go in at my weight class and be the best power slapper just because like I'm sure there is skill. Like these guys, I'm sure they practice something. It's like aiming on a punching bag with how to, you know, I'm sure they load up the hips more than I would imagine and torque the shoulders. I'm sure there's a technique to it, but like I don't know, like the best power slapper, and I could be wrong, but like what is what separates them from the guy seven ranks below them? It's gotta just be luck and who goes first. It seems like. At least with fighting and most sports, it's it's primarily skill-based. Like there's athletic things that kind of overcome those skills, but it's mostly skill-based. Power slap, it just doesn't seem like a ton of skill. And if there is skill, it seems like it'd be like one skill. Strength. Yeah, well, yeah, and just like I guess accuracy more so. Because if you just fucking I think you I from what I've seen, they just lock the arm out, the palms gotta be out. Everyone's palm is roughly the same. Maybe they can uh like toughen their palms up. Maybe you can like uh TIE fighters, they'll do uh like shin training, they'll kick banana trees for years and years and years so that their shins calcify, they're a lot harder. That's crazy, but your palm isn't a bone. So I don't know how you maybe you could like build calluses up on your palm that way it's like rougher or like heavier, maybe you can have heavier hands, but they just lock it and spin. And I would imagine I don't know. It just seems I don't like it. I can't watch it anytime a clip comes across. I scroll past, I don't like it.

It's a drill where there's two blockers or two linemen on each side, three people on each team, two linemen, one running back, one linebacker. It basically ends up just being the running back and the linebacker colliding and seeing who can hit the hardest. Yeah. It's a fun drill to do when you were like 15. Right. But this run it organization is it just takes two giant Samoan dudes. I think one of them holds a rugby ball. I could be wrong on that. And they have a turf strip laid out, probably 30 yards, 20, 30 yards apart, and they count down three to one go, and these two dudes behemoths at each other full speed and just fucking nail each other, dude. It's insane. People get knocked out cold. It's crazy. Ooh, never heard of that. Never heard of that. Insane, dude. And it's just the biggest dudes, like these 300-pound Samoans sprinting at each other, bonking each other on the head, or like shoulders catching heads. It's crazy.

But like carrying that into your 20s and 30s and then doing it with like no pads and uh uh. I don't think especially no helmet, I guess, is the they say like that's the argument for rugby being safer than football because everyone sees it and goes, Oh my god, there's no pads. Football's at least safer because there's pads. Not really. When you have helmets on, you can really throw caution to the wind and just bang the shit out of each other. Uh funny thing about jujitsu is that it's not it's lumped in with other combat sports. Like people think, oh, it's like a and it is technically like it's in the the art of fighting, I guess you could say, but like it's such a not tough guy sport.

SPEAKER_02Which I think is complete opposites, but it like it is I get that, but like there's there's levels to it. And like jujitsu's not a violent sport. It it's violent in its own way, but it's a very controlled violence, which all fighting is, but like it's not dangerous like that. Yeah. It's more dangerous, like your limbs and stuff, like your joints, but it's not like you're not gonna get a ton of head trauma. I forgot why I was even talking about it. I'll still break your leg, I'll still yeah, like it's dangerous for like armbars, you can get choked out, like stuff like that, but like you can tap and it's all over. It's one of the only like combat sports that you can go full full strength into like training, like full what's the word I'm looking for? Like full gear, pretty much. Like you can go all the way in. Full metal, you can train as hard as you want, 100%, and not get hurt because it you know it's not as high impact. But like boxing, you can't spar 100% all the time or you're gonna die. I can see you being way more sore with uh jujitsu every day. Dude, people that start jujitsu and have so like when you start jujitsu, you get sore, but I think the real soreness comes probably like I'll say like a month or two in, whenever you finally get the hang of it, and you first get your like real training session of like okay, I know what I'm doing a little bit, and you can you can train it's called rolling in jujitsu, like the sparring is called rolling. So, like when you're brand new, when you're rolling, it's a lot of like when you're rolling trepidation. Yeah, I know it's the same thing as like Molly, but it's not, it's just called rolling, but like there's a lot of trepidation with new people and rolling because then like something will happen, you get in a position you've never been in, and you stop and you go, Oh, I don't really know. And then whoever you're training with usually has to be like, oh, don't worry about like work this out, work this out. When you finally get past that point of like not stopping during your roles and like asking questions, and you're really just kind of flowing with it the whole time, and you go to like an open mat and you train for an hour straight and without stopping, and you're like fighting the whole time, that's when the real soreness kicks in, and that'll hit you years in too. I'd be years into training, and you go to an open mat and hit like a hard hour, hour and a half session, and you wake up feeling like you got hit by a truck. It's brutal because it's yeah, it's just full body.

And you can't bless poisoned water.

Uh there's some that there's some that I've met, there's some that I haven't. They're all different. Every single sing every single father slash deacon, you know, they're all their own everyone has their own personalities, their own little flavor on it. And they're the same even when you talk to them. There's no there's no acting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Is the one you work at is it mostly Spanish speaking?
SPEAKER_00It's actually in my opinion, okay, so y I say yes only because it's the only Catholic church in the in the area that's not the woodlands. Oh, okay. But yeah, it is also very huge with the English. There's a lot of English masses. I think in my there's more English masses than Spanish masses. I'll say that. Yeah. But the Spanish masses get packed and overflow happens. So this weekend what we do too uh we uh the chapel turns into an overflow during the weekend 'cause it gets so full. So during the Mass, while w you know, not everybody fits in the church. They'll hear the same church, but you gotta go through the connecting doors into the chapel. Um and while sometimes mass is happening, there's adoration at which is another version of uh praying. We had to move that all to the what we call the Archangel Hall. And that's basically where you like rent out for like the parties and like big old event hall. Yeah. Nice place. It used to be church. Now it turned into an event hall. Okay. That is now the chapel this weekend because of how busy the masses get so it's basically it's just we it's another prayer room.

SPEAKER_00How many people you think is gonna be this weekend for the turnout like what's the biggest mass y'all have oh hundred oh thousand what yeah is that big yeah it gets bad I mean yeah it gets big holy shit not the whole no no it gets they have to do the parking uh parking ride at the 105 bridge really that you know I'm talking about next to the library and the veterans yeah uh whatever yeah there's a parking ride to have parking ride for that that's cool it gets no it gets to the thousands wow this church makes a lot of money that's awesome this church makes millions of dollars really through don through donations I always thought this was like a smaller church where is it is it huge it's oh it's huge yeah yeah they had to think of where it is it was I feel like I've seen or I know where most of the churches are it was rebuilt well not rebuilt it was built in 2018 because the one that was already there was they realized how tiny it was okay and how many people there are in Conroe that go to mass yeah go to church but yeah no it's uh um down Frasier all the way down Frasier north sorry south you can uh uh intersects with uh Metcalf okay it's in between Metcalf and Gladstelling sorry before you get to uh fucking La Palma before the bridge before you go under the train yeah it's right there to your right oh okay it's that big big old church okay yeah it's uh it's been a yeah it's been around for a while now okay but that's cool we get all the us as maintenance guys we get all the we're starting to get all the problems now yeah like sprinkler problem oh speaking of that that's I put uh we put in some uh no parking signs like weeks ago and then uh this past week I I think I talked about it in the last episode I don't remember about the sprinkler system I think you might have talked to me about it off air well anyways I put a parking sign ended up stabbing two pipes of for the sprinkler system so as soon as we turned on the water to try to try to make sure everything works it was a fucking fountain anyways I fixed it hell yeah it only took me the whole two weeks no it took me took me about a week it felt it felt like two weeks though because that shit was a bitch and I uh I used to work with my stepdad and um he's a plumber electrician and I would dig trenches for him and um every now and then you'd get I hate digging it's the worst it's annoying every now and then you'd get a really you know it's the the typical shit like a hard ground but then a lot of the times there's like big old roots in the way so I'd take a sawzall and I'd be sawing these roots to like make way for the gas lines or whatever we were gonna lay electrical lines plumbing whatever.
SPEAKER_02And um this one time we're in this yard man and there was so many roots so I'm just cutting away at all these things I'm like chopping them all up and I come across this one and it looks like a big ass root and I'm like alright grab the saws all start cutting away at it I'm about two seconds in and I hear and I was like oh shit immediately smell gas and I'm like oh it was a really old gas line but a high pressure gas line which is like the dangerous ones and I cut it with a fucking sawzall dude we had to call like 911 and they had to bring like firefighters out I'd fucked this whole day up I fucked this whole thing up we had to stand like way down the street and we were smoking.
SPEAKER_00Yeah that's where it starts to get like very like where you have to like get people to uh evacuate. Yeah it was close to yeah we were having to like tell neighbors and stuff like that's that kind of like gas to like uh yeah if a if a fucking cigarette smoker around it like exactly it's it was like a problem. Yeah that's crazy I ruined it that I thought damn I thought I had a bad that it was worse.
SPEAKER_02That is way worse very embarrassing moment I was like there's a big old root I'm gonna cut that thing up and just it was so scary.
SPEAKER_00I got I got some battle scars from like from the cut up from the PVC pipe. Yeah from sharp edges both pinkies that's your index I'm tripping well like they're both on the same side of the yeah but like yeah I was like in my at one point I was pulling up so hard I was like dude are they gonna break they're like no no no they're fine I'm like because you gotta when you put the cement or the primer and then the primer and then the cement glue and I was like are you sure it's not gonna break I'm fucking pulling so hard to try to get to connect but I got to work. Getting cuts on your hands is it dried it dried it it dried and then they did a we did the test and we're like and then nothing came out I was like oh my god yes it's a good feeling felt so good don't you love getting cuts on your hands and arms and stuff I hate it really I hate it I think it looks so cool I love getting cuts in that fact you're right no it hurts yeah it sucks I love it in that fact it feels so manly yeah exactly come home girl sees it and they're like oh my god it's fine so I can cut my hand up a little bit it's not even a big deal like they need to give me some hand sanitizer I'm like fuck yeah you go take a shower and you're like god damn it that stings so bad I remember I had to purposely I was like give me some sanitizer and I I dipped my finger in it instead of rubbing it on and I ever even just dipping in it I was like that's fine give it two seconds and then it starts I'm fucking yelling like crazy.
