We just watched uh we all watched something together that we've never seen that was on Netflix. The the Truth and Tragedy of Mariah Wilson. And before watching this movie, none of us had any idea who she was. Had no idea. We just all figured let's uh let's go through some let's let's go through some apps find some documentaries and we figured let's do some let's do like a tru a true crime type of thing, you know? Yeah, murder is always cool. A lot of people like listening.

SPEAKER_02What? Alright, not a big thing. But yeah, we none of us had any idea who this girl was. Uh so she was a professional cyclist. Competitor. Cyclist. Uh she died. How do we want to do it?

SPEAKER_02So I don't that's a good idea. That's a good question. Um I guess spoiler alert. Yeah, I mean it's definitely gonna be a spoiler alert for the people who don't never seen it, obviously. Yeah. Um it came out when? Earlier this year. This year, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, sometime 2026. So it's like it's a new one. And it was like fair, it was like in the past couple months. I guess yeah, we can just kind of go through the whole thing. Lady ends up dead, friend finds her, she's in town. I'm already doing a bad job.

SPEAKER_06Yeah, she was nasty.

SPEAKER_06No, nasty. That's a positive. That's like a positive. That's just bro talk. She was nasty. Nasty cyclist. Anyways, um she also did have a nasty face sometimes from the dust and the sweat, I'm assuming. Continue.
SPEAKER_01Ended up going and hanging out with a friend who's also a cyclist.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Colin. That's what I'm saying. You talking about the girl or team day? Yeah, all right. Talking about Colin. We're talking about Colin, right? All right, Colin.

SPEAKER_02So Colin is her they're not.
SPEAKER_06No, that's her friend. Gunner. All right, they interviewed Gunner. Gunner was the ex. Gunner was her first boyfriend. They dated forever, yaddy. I don't even know why they showed him. Who cares? Um, Colin is dating this girl named Caitlin. There's two Caitlens here.
SPEAKER_01One goes by Cash.
SPEAKER_06One goes, yeah. Her name is Caitlin Cash. She goes by Cash. She fucking rules. Good for her. She's cool. Great friend. She's the one that found Mo or Mariah dead.
SPEAKER_01She's who Mo was staying with.
SPEAKER_06Yes, they were staying at Caitlin Cash's house. We'll just call her Cash. We'll call her Cash. She was staying at Cash's house in Austin because she was there for a race. She had a, I guess, a guy friend in Austin that she also liked to hang out with by the name of Colin. Throughout the documentary, you learn Colin is a piece of shit. Colin is like cheating without cheating. Notoriously.
SPEAKER_01Using a very like on again, off of off again relationship with kind of like some loopholes. Yeah, so he's dating this other K. I get the like piece of shit. Um the he was the one that I mentioned as a cyclist as well, and was extremely good at it. Um, and that's what he that's how they knew each other.
SPEAKER_02It's like a love circle without a love circle.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like a triangle, like a love triangle.
SPEAKER_02Triangle, my bad. Yeah, exactly. That's a circle, my bad. Triangle.
SPEAKER_06Speaking of circle, that analogy about the mud puddle that the mom did.

SPEAKER_06Horrible analogy. Made no sense. She's like, imagine there's a mud puddle. Because eventually, yeah, she could just she's like, you can go around it over and over and over. Or you could just go right through it.
SPEAKER_01Like, why wouldn't you just walk a semicircle around it? That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_06Because then she finished it being like, you could just walk right through it and get on out on the other end. It's like, why wouldn't you just stop halfway through your circle and then continue to go and then you'd be out on the other end, not having gotten dirty? Like, what the fuck are you talking about? Mom was hot, also.
SPEAKER_02Um I think that was that was good. That was good. I didn't catch that until towards the end. I was like, wait, I think he's just I wrote this is halfway through my notes.
SPEAKER_06Mom is kind of bad. A baddie. Yeah, she's kind of a baddie. Anyways, uh, yeah, so they're staying with Caitlin Cash. Caitlin Cash comes. Okay, all right, all right. We find out Colin is kind of a piece of shit. He's dating this girl named Caitlin, not Caitlin Cash. I'm gonna stop calling her Caitlin Cash. Just Cash. We'll call her Cash. Correct, because that's what they did in the Yes, to differentiate in the show, too. Cash is the friend, Caitlin is Colin's girlfriend. Colin is continuously seeing this Mariah girl while she's in town, even though Caitlin, his girlfriend, hates it. And he's hiding it from her behind her back.
SPEAKER_01Yes, by using a different name under the contacts, which Caitlin has access to.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, through an iPad in the same house. But they hadn't lived. Turns out she can read the whole fucking thing. So is Caitlyn late. This is where it gets weird.
SPEAKER_02He already pre-planned that part because he named her Kristen Wall.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because he knew that she had access.
SPEAKER_06Yes. Exactly. Now he's hiding it. Like outright.
SPEAKER_02So yes.
SPEAKER_06So he obviously knew he was doing something wrong. Whatever. Guys sucked. The the problem, all right. There's so many things I want to talk about.
SPEAKER_02I will say though, there there was a lot of people that they threw at us at first.
SPEAKER_05It was too many people. Uh in the in the first five minutes.
SPEAKER_02In the end, it didn't it didn't matter. There was it was just their thoughts. Too many friends. It was just their thoughts.
SPEAKER_06It's six different friends being like, I liked Mariah. No, she I get it. She was a sweetheart. Cool.
SPEAKER_01So I would understand if they brought in like, you know, the the main suspects at first, the family, and like Cash, because she's the one who found her. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Which Cash was they did look at her as a suspect at first. They did the first one, yeah. But just to clarify.
SPEAKER_01Um, but that also like and and of course, like the lawyers and detectives. I I get that part, but why all the extra friends? Until like until like the end of like, you know, in remembrance of Mo and like go over like how the how her friends felt about her.
SPEAKER_06Because nothing they said during the entire podcast was or of the entire documentary was like of importance. It was literally just like she was a sweetheart. It's like, okay. Yeah, and this is where it gets weird. Because all right, Colin sucks. He's technically cheating on this girl Caitlin by asking Mariah to hang out. And you you picture Mariah as this like, oh, like a goody two shoes kind of girl, and this bad boy's kind of like talking to her, and she's like, I'll go on a date with him. Caitlin called Mariah on the phone. Mariah answered. Caitlin goes, Hey, Colin and I are still in a relationship. Please stop hanging out with him. Okay. Colin then asked Mariah to hang out on the night of the murder. Right. Mariah says yes. That's I mean, I'm not victim blaming here by any means, but that's crazy. Lady.
SPEAKER_01That is crazy. Chill. Um, I I I feel like they should have probably put like a time frame on like when the call when she got the call and like now.
SPEAKER_06Because she didn't live in town, too.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. So like who know who knows if it if it was like her being in town like a day or two, she gets the call. The only reason she even answered this random Texas numbered call, even though she's from Vermont, is because she's waiting for a sponsorship. Yeah, yeah, she was competitive. In Texas. Yeah. So that that would be a logical reason there. But the timing, I wish they would have given us that.
SPEAKER_06She lives in Vermont and she came down to Austin for a race, but she had because her friend Cash lives there also, she has somewhere to stay. She comes down there often. Or I think she said it was her second or third time.
SPEAKER_01Second time.
SPEAKER_06Second time there. So she met Colin the first time, though.
SPEAKER_01She's she had known Colin previously. Through the race community. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he was a bike builder. Yeah. And they were talking, I'm assuming, while she was in Vermont also. It's not like she hit him up as soon as she got to Boston.
SPEAKER_01Um, but it wasn't necessarily a romantic relationship. I don't think it ever was. No, I know it it pointed that Mohead felt possibly like romantic at some point, and then they decided like it just wasn't gonna work, so they weren't gonna go that route. But still he's a good he was a good um communication for the bike world and like trying to figure out how to get those sponsorships because he had already had sponsorships.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he was almost like a mentor. Yeah, he was also like 10 years older than her, and so was the girlfriend Caitlin. I don't know. I'm not like I said, I'm not victim blaming, but it was just weird. That's like, all right, you got the call, you gotta know when to like just fold your hand, lady, and just be like, alright, this one's off the table. If you got a crazy girlfriend calling you and be like, hey, don't hang out with my boyfriend, don't hang out with her boyfriend, dude.
SPEAKER_05She's gonna fucking kill you.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's usually yeah, the product every time. And then all right, so Cash finds her dead. Turns out she got shot three times. Yeah, two. Two in the head, one in the heart. One in the heart. Heartbreaking.
SPEAKER_02I'm still I'm surprised that even after seeing that, that the cops still instructed her to do CPR. Well, they didn't know it was chest compression.
SPEAKER_06They didn't know that part yet. They didn't know that it was gunshots.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because the the dispatcher was the one who who told her to do CPR.
SPEAKER_06She called 911 dispatch told her to do CPR. She probably could, but the the dispatch couldn't, and she didn't say it. She didn't say it.
SPEAKER_01She didn't specify where she had gotten shot. She just said the head's bleeding, there's blood everywhere. I like I don't know if she's awake.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's what it was. He said, Is she awake? And she was like, No. That was it. She didn't say anything about gunshots though. She just said she's laying on the ground and bleeding. Okay. So the guy was like, do CPR.
SPEAKER_02So I was paying attention. She just didn't say it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, just but yeah.
SPEAKER_02She finds her. But okay. To me, she was innocent though. She was just a she was. Definitely. She was just completely innocent.
SPEAKER_06I even get like she has no friends in this city, really, except for the one that she's staying with. Ann Colin. That seemed like pretty much it.
SPEAKER_02And I really understand. And it makes sense why the name, the title of what it was. Because it really was a tragedy. Yeah, it was just that she she literally went out to hang out with a friend.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. But there's some implications there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's a lot of implications.
SPEAKER_06But it does get creepy because it turns out that Caitlin Lady was stalking them the entire time that they were on this date.
SPEAKER_01For Lord knows how well she wasn't stalking them, she was stalking the house. Yeah, yeah. To see when Colin dropped her off.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, circling the block.
SPEAKER_01Premeditated.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_01Like a thousand percent.
SPEAKER_06She had, yeah. I guess spoiler alert, she ended up getting 90 years, which is that's a fucking heavy sentence.
SPEAKER_01Plus a $10,000 fine.
SPEAKER_06That felt so redundant to me. I don't know why they said that. They're like 90 years, so she's gonna die in prison. Also, she has to pay $10,000. Like, what? Okay.
SPEAKER_02Cool. She was really dead cold in the face. She's terrifying. No. She's terrifying looking. Literally, no emotional. That's a scary lady. And she changed her facial, her nose structure to look like her sister. Okay, yeah. So they bring her part of the story.
SPEAKER_06So yeah, we'll break that. Alright, so they go, they bring her in for questioning. They go, Okay, we're pretty sure we saw your Jeep at the scene of the crime on this ring doorbell camera. I don't get why. Alright, so they bring her in and they say, This is voluntary. You're not detained right now. We're just questioning you. You can tell us whatever you want to. She goes, I want a lawyer. They go, I get that. Then we only have one side of the story. Exactly. And then she goes, Well, I want to leave. And they go, Okay, you're allowed to leave. They think she's a suspect. And I know you can't detain her because you don't have proof yet. You gotta keep an eye on her.
SPEAKER_05Which they did not. Keep a fucking eye on her, dude. She they gave her six days unattended. She ended up in fucking New York and then Costa Rica.
SPEAKER_02Costa Rica.
SPEAKER_06Getting plastic surgery to look like her sister, dyeing her hair, using different passports. Like, bro, keep a fucking eye on this lady.
SPEAKER_01Committing fraud, using the sister's eye passport.
SPEAKER_02She did this all within six to eight days.
SPEAKER_01Six days. Yeah. That's fucking nuts.
SPEAKER_06Six days. And then ended up in Costa Rica under her sister's name. Shout out to the detectives on this case. They're fucking awesome. Yeah, they uh killed it, bro.
SPEAKER_02That's yeah.
SPEAKER_06They're like, she's a yoga instructor. We think we found her at the city in Costa Rica. We just don't know where she's at. So we put out an ad looking for a yoga instructor, and she fucking applied. Fucking fell for it. And they said, Are you Caitlyn Yada Yada? And she goes, Yes.
SPEAKER_05Hey man, you did all this work. Change your name. Don't reply to the locals down there. Is that you're something else? You almost root for him to get away at that point. You're like, all right, you made it all the way down there. There's a little bit of that in you, because I'm always fucked 12, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06But I'm joking.
SPEAKER_05But it's it's almost like, God leave, you did so much so well. You got out of there so quick, so quick, and then you just got got like that. What a dickhead.
SPEAKER_02Kept your same name.
SPEAKER_0643 days. She was down there for 43 days. They're about to give up on it. And then that one detective with a gray beard was like, put a yoga ad out and got her ass, dude. That's insane. White bitch is gonna white bitch, man. So I have to teach yoga. I don't care where I'm at.
SPEAKER_02That's exactly what I was thinking. I was like, she had to get to you. Not that part where you said, not exactly what you said, but the whole like I she's like she couldn't hold it in. She had to get her yoga in somehow. She's like, shit, let me get some money while I'm out here. Do yoga.
SPEAKER_01It's because while she was in Austin, she was a yoga instructor and realtor.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and apparently she had all this money to flee because the guy 40k. Yeah. Because the guy gave her investment money as soon as it had like right before it happened. So she had all this cash floating around to just kind of like plan this with.
SPEAKER_01So not only were Colin and Caitlin in a relationship, but they were also business partners.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So that that would be why Colin gave her $40,000 for an investment.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, she handled all the financial side of his like trailer business. It was like a what'd they call it? Some kind of trailer. He was making he was like custom, like retrofitting our custom trailers. For like like it seemed like van life type shit. Like he was building like wooden tables in there and all that.
SPEAKER_04Um like the uh those cool looking old school ovens.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, they had like a wood-burning stove in there. Yeah, wood burning. That was sick. That's what it was. It looked really cool. It was like straight like van life type stuff.
SPEAKER_02Right. Um and then also building bikes.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah. The bikes was like his main thing.

SPEAKER_06Yeah, he was a shredded boy. That dude was in shape. Good lord.

SPEAKER_06Yeah, man. Just I wrote down Colin, 2% body fat. Um probably realistically closer to six, but that guy was shredded.

SPEAKER_06If I had to guess. Uh I wrote infotainment center question mark. Dumb. I hate the name of that. I think that's dumb. I don't know what an infotainment center is.
SPEAKER_01So I think it's considered an infotainment center because it not only has like the entertainment aspect of it where it has like the radio and everything, but it also is taking information as far as like GPS.
SPEAKER_06So that's what it was. That's the whole like radio apparatus, like the screen and all that.
SPEAKER_01That's why they tried to make sure that they could um obtain that vehicle from Carfax. Um get that system out for our data, for the data people.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. And that did end up, that's how they found out that she was circling the house forever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that that's how they put the exact path on her, even after she was smart enough to turn off her phone. I she did not think about the vehicle aspect of it.
SPEAKER_06Imagine being that lady, because I said she circled the block a couple times, was turning like she didn't know what to do, then sits in a parking lot for like a couple minutes and then cuts off the phone. That's when she like made the decision. That's so creepy.
SPEAKER_01And then you just stalk that house. Like it at any point that you were creeping this house, hate it. Did the thought not change of like shit? Maybe I shouldn't do this. What like no? I think that was the flip. But at the same time, like as you're circling, what in your mind doesn't go? Wow, I could really get in like some deep shit for this.
SPEAKER_06She had crazy brain.

SPEAKER_06No, but yeah, that's flippable. Yeah, no emotion. I don't care what the repercussions are, I'm gonna go shoot this lady. That sucks, dude.

SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's creepy. Yeah, they said it was uh two shots simultaneously and then a six-second pause, then the third shot. They have the audio on like the neighbor's ring camera, but they didn't play it, thank god. That would fuck me up. They redacted it. Yeah, that would fuck me up. That's so sad. Especially you said you could they said they could hear the screams.

SPEAKER_06That's rough. That's that's fucked up. But yeah, the the second the six-second pause is that's brutal. It was probably realistically, she was running away, and then he caught her or she caught up to her, like walked over to her to do the last shot. But it's still just creepy to imagine those six seconds. That's movie stuff, yeah. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01I don't think that's what the case is. I think because it sounds like she got shot in the head first, twice. So she's already down. Yeah. I think Caitlyn officially wanted it go, wanted to like make sure, like, I'm gonna shoot you in the heart, and you there's no way that you're going to live through this.
SPEAKER_06The heart was brutal.

SPEAKER_06That's insane, dude. The way that that black was he a cop or what was he the uh was he a detective? That black dude that was like, I'm the fucking shit.

SPEAKER_01I believe he was one of the attorneys.
SPEAKER_06Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. But he was he was describing it in the courtroom where he was like, then he's she stood over and shot her in the heart. It's like, Jesus Christ, man. That takes some serious anger. And usually, this is just what I've heard from watching true crime talks and stuff like that. Women don't typically use guns. Women are much more physical. They like to they like to stab bitches and choke them. And poison is a big one if they're killing men, but they don't shoot a lot.
SPEAKER_01So I I've heard that, but I always I I heard it in the aspect of like if they're going to commit suicide, it's not gonna be with a gun, it'll be with like a pill or an overdose, not a like blow your head off kind of like suicide.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, or they don't jump off buildings as well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, like it's not as violent, not not very like gory.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think women in general they just don't really fuck with guns as much. So it's crazy when you hear that a woman shot another woman three times in like cold blood. It's like that kind of hits different.
SPEAKER_02They were in Texas too.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think this is in Austin, but yeah, you picture it almost it stings a little more when it's a woman. Because like you hear a dude shoot someone, you're like, Yeah, bro, we spaz. But like a woman doing it is like, Jesus Christ, what a psycho.
SPEAKER_02This was in 2022, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02May of 2022 is when it happened and she was convicted, and it all whatever happened in November.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. God man, yeah, that was that was brutal. I I really thought the mom at the end was gonna get me with her um her speech on the stand. I did not lie for it.
SPEAKER_02I was expecting, yeah, a little more like deeper hits in the heart. I think but they do have to write it.

SPEAKER_02A few were a few hits, a few sorry, a few of her words did hit at the beginning. It was good to start speaking.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it was good. It was good when she was like, You shot um You shot her in the heart. You shot all of us in the heart. Yeah, that's that was good. But it does have to be pre-written so you don't fuck it up. And that always comes off as like kind of insincere. Obviously, it wasn't that poor woman. I mean, that's she was the one throughout the whole documentary that I was like, dude, I don't feel bad for anybody in this doc except this lady. That fucking sucks. And Cash. She seems like a great friend. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to her. Especially Cash finding her. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Staying in the house too. She decided to stay live in the house that it happened in because she felt close to her there.
SPEAKER_02That's she changed everything to make it look brighter. Yeah, brighter. Yeah, that does take a lot. Yeah. To do that. That's right.
SPEAKER_01And staying in that house and redecorating, she's also she said she was also um kind of holding on to that last day that Mo had because prior to being shot, because fucking Caitlin's a psycho bitch, um, she had a very beautiful day. They they they made breakfast together, they had coffee. She went on her bike ride to train for that the the race she was supposed to have the next day. Like it was full of love and laughter, and that's a lot of the reason that Cash kind of held out and is is is staying where she's where everything happened.

SPEAKER_01And um chat GP Bree did some research. You are actually correct. Um while guns are most common weapons for both male and female killers, studies suggest that women use firearms in less than half of their killings.

And then he walks in and or uh during all this whole thing of the show, uh that night, Lil Dickie is gonna perform at the VMA's and um at towards the end he saw he sees the fact that he sees his uh Gata's studio in the closet and he starts thinking like, Holy crap, like you've been working for your moment, whatever, whatever, and I already got my moment, so I know exactly what you're feeling. I know exactly what you're going through. So at the very end, at the very end, they twisted it up and he brought Gata out onto the VMA's. This is after they like like he went up to him and Gata like went off. Like they pissed at him, but then they did a switch up on us, and like I looked at her and I started crying. I was like, holy shit, I was like, look at this. I was like, that is good writing right there.
