GPS with Bill Smith God, Politics and Sports
This podcast will discuss three of the most controversial areas and how they relate to us daily. I stand on FAITH and the importance of walking by faith and not by sight. The importance of speaking out in the political field and how important it is. Sports are so important and an integral part of our society. Talking about all three GPS gives us direction in our lives.

Today we step into three arenas that unite and divide us the most. God, politics, and sports. Faith shapes our souls, politics shapes our world, and sports reveal our passion. No filters, no fears, just real conversation. God, politics, and sports. Hello everybody, this is Bill Smith with God Politics and Sports, and I want to say Happy Veterans Month. That's what I said, Happy Veterans Month, because veterans such as myself, Gulf War veteran, field artillery, the king of battle, follow me. We have paid the price and laid it on the line for everyone to be able to celebrate a great time period. So it's uh definitely happy Veterans Month. And I I just wanted to reiterate that a few times that it is happy Veterans Month. Anyway, uh with that said, this is another awesome time period, and I'm so uh pleased and thankful to be able to be with you. And last week we had a great podcast with Dr. Michael Brown, who just wow, words of wisdom. I mean, he just poured out uh into our lives, whether it was uh talking about the things of God and what God has been sharing with him, things going on politically in our nation, whether it's and definitely with sports. He couldn't wait to get to sports. That's the one thing he was saying, like, okay, let's get to the sports part here. So uh, especially talking about the NBA playoffs, we got our wish. We wanted OKC. I mean, I'm sorry, we wanted the Spurs to beat OKC. He's a Lakers fan. I'm a Sixers fan. But being here in Texas, we couldn't cheer for anything in Oklahoma. This wasn't gonna happen. So uh we wanted that. So uh, and a lot of most of us, and and I'm gonna I'll tap into this a little bit later as we go along, but my poor son-in-law is a Knicks fan, and and uh I know his feelings are gonna get hurt, but I'm excited for one thing, for life experiences uh being a married couple. So my son-in-law, my daughters with Darius and and Sarah, they're going to game one Wednesday night at the NBA playoffs. I am thrilled for them because that's some things that people don't really get a chance to do. And my wife were my wife and I, we were talking about it, and we said, well, we've been Flyers, we went to the World Series with the Phillies, uh, we've seen the Raiders uh in twice, actually. Yeah, they won one. I'm one and one going to Raiders games. So we went to Houston and watched them, we went to Vegas and watched them. So I guess we've been to Flyers. Uh so we we covered all, let's see, and we've been to Spurs games. So we covered all the four major sports. Uh I do have a World Series. We do have a World Series in our belt. So uh when the Flyers make it to the NHL and the NHL Championship series, we'll go. Uh when the uh Raiders, if they uh ever get real and make it to the Super Bowl, uh I'll we'll squeeze it out some. We'll go. We're trusting God on that one for sure. And uh we've already been to the World Series. So what I call uh and the Sixers, if they ever get back to the NBA championship, that'll be something to look for. And we thought about going to the Spurs, but uh I'm not making a house payment just to go watch basketball because I have to sit in certain spots. So, but anyway, it's just so much going on this week. Uh, and I'm so excited about it. But God is good and continues to pour into our lives. And just want to encourage you with one thing from uh Psalms 23 and 5. And God just begins to uh tell us in Psalms 23 and 5, you prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, you anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. And this verse just illustrates God's abundance and his provision and his favor, even in the midst of our enemies. And one thing that our man of God pointed out, I'm gonna just reiterate it real fast, is that in warfare the meal comes after the victory, but God's already set your table up in the midst of your enemies, it's already telling you you had the victory, it's already telling those things that may be trying to come against you that you cannot win. They that thing can't win. You're gonna win, you have the victory. So poverty, sickness, disease, uh uh, strife, stress, they can't win. God's already set you up for victory because the cup overflows, and I love one thing he said if the cup is full, that's just you know, it's just that bare minimum of success, but you have so much more when you overflow. That overflow, that anointing that just keeps overflowing. And I love it, that word really blessed me. So I want I want to encourage you to live in the overflow, don't settle for the bare minimum. And you can say my cup of that's that's not all that God has for you. God has so much more for you, and just live in that, just be excited that man, I can live in the overflow of all that God has for me, and and I refuse to go back. So when you hear words like that and it locks in, I want to encourage you once again because challenges are gonna come. There's nothing in this life that says that challenges won't come because Jesus said it rains on the on the just as well as the unjust. So that means challenges will come no matter what, challenges will come. And I was thinking about something today. Ignore in ignorance. These words basically you have ignore is in ignorance, and when you ignore the word of God, you invite ignorance in. When the word is telling you to do something, don't ignore it. When the word is telling you not to do something, don't ignore it. That's that's a great way to avoid ignorance or silly things beginning to happen uh in your life that you do not want to be uh coming at you in different manners in your life, so remain steadfast, remain immovable, and remain trusting God and everything that you do, remain trusting God because He is our everything. God is our everything and He is powerful, He is, and even as things uh even as things begin to change and adjust, even in the political realm, we must continue to trust God. But this next as we move into that, this next segment of GPS is brought to you by our sponsor, QCraft Sausage, and you can text 706-409-3532, or you can use QCraft Sausages uh.com.com, I believe it is, QCraft uh sausage dot square dot site. I'm sorry, and there's gonna be more coming out with that as far as it and I know I can't wait. He told me he has some new sausage that I will get a chance opportunity to taste and to try, and I know you I know it's gonna be good. I know it's gonna be good because he wouldn't put it out there if it's not good. So get on there, look, look up Q craft sausage, get up there, look it up, and get you some good, healthy, homemade, homemade sauce, not processed through it, he's making it by hands, and you can see the videos of him making that sausage and his faithfulness uh within doing that. So we look at with politics, there's a possible uh deal with Iran, it's still being discussed, and it keeps coming up. Uh it seems like every time we're about to seal the deal on that, it uh turns back around again. Either we we either they launch drones towards us or we have airstrikes uh in response to things. So there's a lot of things that are still going on with that. And of course, Israel's connected, uh, and and their fight uh in Lebanon with these uh the terrorist organizations there that they're going back and forth with. So uh there's a lot of things that are still being figured out. Um and we have to uh we have to just be patient and understand that there's a God is doing something. We don't we don't have to know it all at one time, but we still have to be patient with this, we have to trust God in it. And as Israel and Hezbollah uh continue to do their uh battle, battling, and because Hezbollah is funded by Iran and they're bumped up and pumped up by Iran, they tend to, you know, Iran wants this to stop and that to stop. And and I know it wasn't just the fighting in Lebanon, it's also over the uranium that we uh basically we leveled, it's underground, deep underground. And part of the agreement that they were looking at was that we would come in, clean it out. Now there's some risk to that as well. So there's a lot, there's folks a whole lot smarter than me that will be involved in that with that. But politically, and with this war in Iran, I would love for it to be over. Gas prices have dropped some. Uh, it's funny, I saw a thing where a guy was talking about, oh, it dropped 20 cents and now it was four something, or you know, high high threes, low 420, whatever. And he said, Thank you, Trump. And then you look at it and say, Well, dude, the national average under Biden was $5.10 or 20 cents. So even with this uh board that's still uh proceeding forward, it's still lower than it was at that time. So let's keep fact facts. Uh but we don't do we still want this known if prices went up in different areas? Heck yeah. And it's and it's been acknowledged. But I said this before if it's worth paying the price now that our children and our children's children, and even go three deep behind, can live a life where they're not looking over their shoulder because fanatics have access to nuclear weapons, then so be it. I'll pay the price now. Because when it talks about us living leaving an inheritance for our children and our children's children, it should include an inheritance of living being able and having a opportunity to live peace, uh, a peaceful life. Um knowing that now I grew up throughout the 80s, so you you you still have Russia and et cetera, and nukes and but it was really never really on that brink because even though Russia can be a little off, I don't think they're that crazy. Nobody just wants to just start blowing on stuff for no reason, unlike some folks who are using for their uh religious ideology, um, which is is uh uh that that thought process is terrible. And that's not everybody, so please don't get on here telling I'm saying everybody who may be of Islam or Muslim, there I'm not saying I know plenty of people that aren't, but some people are just too far. And it's even with Christian, you have some people who are Christian that lose their minds or claim to be Christian, and that's the one thing we have to be careful of, and even in the political realm, of labeling, and we put everything under the label. That's why I start saying, yeah, you can call me a born-again Christian, but I'm a born-again believer. I stand upon the word of God. So, even within that, politically, we have a great responsibility to make sure that our children and our children's children can live a relatively peaceful life. Uh and and without once again having to look over there. So I do understand that. Do I want to pay these prices all the time? Heck no. I pull up in my truck, drop a C note to get gas. I'm not thrilled with that. Not at all, not even a little bit. But and I said this before, my trust and faith is in God, so I gotta trust Him. And He supplies all my needs according to His riches and glory in Christ Jesus. Texas politics has that has uh is having national impact. Texas politics is is really is really uh making a big uh showing in um the nationally, and people really think that they can turn Texas blue. Uh they really think that the uh Tolerico can win the Senate seat um over Paxton. Stop with the governor. No hosa is she's not beating Avid. Just stop. Obama can come in and eat all the tacos, and that's what they were doing, so I'm not being racial. And and if even if you think it was, that's your daggone problem. Okay, it's not mine. All right, I could have said brisket. Does that mean it gotta be a uh a cowboy? No. So, but he can go out and do all this. You're not beating Avid. You're not. We've our education is raised up with public schools. I am not against public schools. Uh I do think parents should have an opportunity and choice to where they want to send their children to go to school. Uh now we get all the sports part of that. That that's a whole nother story in itself. So I don't have time for that one right there with recruiting, etc. But I I really believe that um uh ABB is gonna win, but once again, nobody can be uh complacent because they will use uh as much and they're gonna pour money into it, but this very ultra farther left progressive mentality is really taking over the Democratic Party, and there's really no moderates in it. Uh what people want to say MAGA is this far, there's still moderates within it. Uh and and because Abbott and Paxson are connected to the president in some way, shape, or for great supporters both ways. Uh you you see people, well, they're just this far away because of this and that. No, they really represent what Texas really wants to believe in. And I've said this once again. Why would you leave a place? Because a lot of people left California to come to Texas. Why would you leave a place over the rules and guidelines they had, and then you want to vote for the same people who think the same way you just left? That doesn't make any sense. It really doesn't. So we will see with that. But Paxson, Paxson has a lot of baggage. Uh he has uh and will his personal baggage be more detrimental in the election than Talerico's um asinine comments, such as God is binary, um, where he's just said, I mean, that doesn't even make any sense. God's a man, God's male. Okay, he's male. All right, the masculine, he's masculine, it's not binary, uh, or non-binary, whatever he said. Oh, non-binary, I'm sorry. He said God is non-binary, um, where he's walking around adding pronouns to his staffers instead of just being he or she, it's all the you know, him or her, boy, girl, he's adding all these things to it where it's it just adds so much uh unnecessary things um to it, such as going around saying his campaign is supporting it's like a a meatless campaign. It's Texas, man. What? So we'll see how this uh how this plays itself out. Under 1,670 uh likely voters, uh he now he leads Paxton by three points. Paxton's coming in off of a slug-fest uh battle with Cornyn over the uh Republican um uh position candidacy for senator. And he does bring baggage in of of his uh of his past. He had with his uh I believe it was a uh the impeachment that he came under, that they were trying to, well, they attempted to impeach him, and when it got to the Senate in that area, it was uh he was found innocent. But bribery and abuse of power, uh top A's reported to the FBI that Paxton used his office to improperly intervene in Paul's uh legal troubles, so uh in something with that. Um and it was just, you know, like I said, bribery and abuse of power, retaliation against them, the impeachment in in May 2023. Um the House, Republican-led House, Texas House, over overwhelmingly voted to impeach Paxton. However, after a two-week trial, the Texas Senate voted to acquit him on all 20 articles of impeachment in September 2023. So it allowed him to stay in office as the attorney general uh in Texas. So and also he had a federal investigation. Um the FBI continued to investigate his claims, but uh uh the Department of Justice uh declined to prosecute him, which in 2023 it was still uh the Biden Department of Justice. So it was still Democrat-led Department of Justice. And I'm sure if they thought they had something to get after him with, they would have gone after him full board. So there was uh security fraud indictment that came against him in in 2015 that went to nothing, and then some personal scandals, possible affair, and and uh and and then divorce. And then the personal scandal part, I've I've said it plenty of times before. Um, if you love David and you think he's an awesome king, and anybody else in the Bible, then before we start passing judgment on somebody uh on things they may have done, we may not like it. I don't like a lot of things people done, people don't like a lot of things I've done. But so those scandals, will they be a greater influence than on the things that Talerico may say that does not line up with the word of God? And if people who say, hey, I am a child of God and I am a I am a born-again believer, um, and they read their word, they listen to what he says and they read their word. You can't vote for this guy. You can't come down. I don't care Democrat or not, if he's not speaking a word or he's using the word incorrectly, there's no voting for him. Period. I can't tell you what to do, but I'm telling you what I firmly believe. It has nothing to do and be Democrat. Because I'm not thrilled with Paxson either. I'm just gonna tell you flat out. I'm I'm not thrilled with him either. Um, not because of the possible uh uh divorce uh affairs or anything of that nature. Uh a lot of legal stuff. I don't, I'm not, I'm not too much down with. That you have so much being thrown at him. What did he say? Where there's smoke, there's fire. Uh so that I'm not overly thrilled with him. But that's a natural. But this guy is saying things that are spiritually incorrect, Calorico, spiritually, biblically incorrect, twisted around to fit his narrative, and it's not what the word says. And those that that's I have a real issue uh with that when it when it comes to that. So California, wow, the the government race, the governor race in California is tight. You have Bassetta, Steyer, and Hilton. Bissetta and Steyer are Democrats. Hilton's a Republican, and they're battling for the two positions. Now, California does like what they call a free-for-all. So you guys, you folks in California, and we have we have some people from California that that listen on uh that watch our podcast as well as listen on on our different streaming um sites, uh platforms. You you guys do, and I'm sure you already know, so I'm just gonna let the rest of the country know, might try to figure out what's going on. It's basically a free-for-all primary system. And then the highest two that come out of that, whether they're both Democrat, both Republican, one and one, that's who uh goes to the election process and through it, and then they battle out in November, or November 3rd, I believe it is. So uh they go for it for their whatever, no matter what the political party is. So at one point, the the Democrats on the outside looking in, uh, and then when I believe his name is Strasso, Strassel, whatever it might be, uh when he pulled out, then Bessera edged forward, and Steyer edged forward. So right now it's like 23, 21, 22, or 23, 22, 21, something that nature with Bissera, Steyer, and Hilton percentage-wise off of polls. So uh Hilton could slip in, um, Steyer could be there, Bissera could drop off. All these they're all different. Now, the one thing I believe really believe I could that will help Hilton is the transgender issue, especially when it comes to children and sports and girls, female sports, because Bassetta and Steyr, they applaud it, they embrace it, and they believe that young men who are biological men, young boys, boys. should be able to compete against young women just because they claim to be uh uh women or young women, girls, whatever you wanna call it. Just because they may be going through uh different medical procedures, they should be able to compete. And uh I've already stated more than one time um with uh Riley Gaines and women uh in general my I don't want my uh teenage granddaughter or sooner be grand or sooner be teenage granddaughter one is already 15 headed to 16 the other one's on her way to being 12 or my new or or my four month old granddaughter having to compete against a boy that once you get to a certain age just genetically they're bigger stronger and faster where you have a young lady in I believe it was Kentucky a few years ago who got hit so hard with a ball that it ended her volleyball career because a boy it was a boy that was doing it but they were they embraced it and it disappoints me uh immensely with that in the Olympics where they did not take heed to that and you basically had a boy beating up girls uh in boxing and it's it's atrocious that uh politicians can't see that and when people say well what about them in their mindset well they're choosing to do the opposite of what God made them to be there's nothing I can say for them and I'm just gonna keep it straight with you I don't hate on anybody but this is GPS this is me. I'm transparent I'm not gonna hide anything from you I know what the word says and the bottom line is this the politicians that support this are doing not just themselves an injustice they're doing females you can't say you support women's rights when you take the right away from them to be successful on a cap in a competitive field. When you take that you pull that away from them you say no you can't do that you say in business you can be in this but on the track on the field on the court you're not allowed to be because somebody else claimed something else between their earlobes and now we're gonna take every opportunity for you to be a success for you to claim those victories so that's one so that's where they're at so and uh um so we see that happening and it's a tight one i but I think that's one of the things Hilton can can rely on uh and once again both Bassera and Steyer are far more progressive in that far more left far more like uh the the the governor I'm sorry the mayor uh in New York and I I do and I don't know if I mentioned this I can't remember if I mentioned no I did not mention this on our last podcast the governor of New York if you don't know something Governor Hokel keep your mouth shut the Knicks have not won a championship since 1973 so if the president of the United States says hey I'm a fan of the New York Knicks why would you make such a stupid comment and you don't even know yourself tell him to name the starters of the 1993 championship team see now she would have said Eastern Conference championship team but no she made it as if they were the NBA champions and they have not won a championship since 1973. 53 years they have not won a championship and now you want to put it out there like they've done it yesterday just don't say anything. And then also the other part is so what if he likes the Knicks what's the big deal I don't understand why we have to drag every little thing into being politics why can't people just enjoy what they like I don't see anybody running behind whether it's Biden Obama Clinton Carter Roosevelt Kennedy whatever it might be because they like something and then make it like it's evil because they like it. See when you do this and this is still politics but as we get right into our sports part when you get so much into dissension that this is the kind of ignorance because we ignore common sense that we run into that you run into when a jack dart just all he does is introduce the president of the United States and it creates a national uproar why that is just so stupid Abdul Carter wants to come out he makes a comment now understand now understand this if Carter never said a word it wouldn't be an issue if he went to Jackson Dart on his own off to the side and say bro you know what I'm not a big fan but even then if you're not a fan so what this man supports the president of the United States you may not nobody cares but you so you make a statement or you put out a tweet to look cool but it looks ignorant and then you get some of the views should be off the air those women and I'm gonna say it and and and it'll be on YouTube they those are some of the most divisive ignorant women I've seen in my life they just say some of the great actress love whoopy as an actress but she just says some of they say some of the dumbest things why wouldn't you want to who cares did anybody stop being a fan how many of y'all stopped being fans when when Tom Brady was New England and he supported Trump I mean he had a MAGA hat up in his up in his locker I don't I didn't I didn't hear that then how many of you heard people say they're gonna stop being fans of certain teams of the Bulls because of Obama or this one because of that one etc how many fans of the Eagles that are that are are or conservative and stand for with the word and I know people who stand on the word word of God say I'm gonna stop being a fan of the Eagles because uh Biden and his wife showed up for a game why they were still why are you still president see that's the ignorance when when your mindset is so warped every little thing bothers you and you go way off into the other framework of mindset and everything is canceled cancel cancel this is a young man who exercised not just his constitutional right but what he believes and who he stands with politically and he made a statement and no I'm sorry he didn't have to make a statement all he did was introduce now Duke Carter has every right as a U.S. citizen to openly not like it because it's the First Amendment but everybody who jumped on his side no one pointed out the fact that so did Jackson Dart have this and he did nothing divisive. Carter's comment is what can cause division to Winston's comments comparing it to the to the bombing of from the KKK who at that time were Democrats when you say this man know your history man uh bombings of of blacks and etc in the 60s and you compare his comment to that his introduction of the president to that without going through history and realizing whoa I just compare something see and Jameis is pretty cool but he nobody thinks and people get upset because Dart didn't come out with some long explanation dart plain and simple someone should have told him this I'm not apologizing which he didn't I'm not making any more comments about it and that's the end of it. No written statements no no things put out what about I'm not apologizing for it I did it and if they asked me to do it again tomorrow I would do tomorrow um that's the end of discussion now we're gonna talk about the Giants what about we're gonna talk about the Giants but he said conversation's over let's walk now Carter came out and he said hey we're moving on from it but I do I love so much what Des Bryant had to say about it was the big deal so what? Why are we acting foolish over this so many people both sides uh you know this this didn't have to get as big as it did but I remember when I heard a word about media and medium are the same and when they talk about how it's divisive and we have to realize that the media is not out and podcasts can be part of media as well but there's no they're not bringing trying to bring people together they're this is when people talk about this is one of the most divisive times it's not the man in the White House. Not that he couldn't pull back on some tweets but it's the amount and how the information goes out on a consistent basis to be divisive in every little thing every little thing and that's all facets CNN MSNBC Fox News Max everything goes out how about we just get back to Walter Carnite and the news how about we just get back to putting the news out and then everything does not have to be opinion TV let's just put the news and the facts out. That's it and it'll be so great to do that but Abdul Carter said that LT is his LT is his talks about one of his favorite players of all time is LT Lawrence Taylor and Lawrence Taylor is a huge president of the United States Trump supporter so and last thing I'll say on this is where was all this energy when athletes supported liberal politicians? Where was it all at and we have to I I I don't want the separation of sports and politics but we have to be wise about it when we start diving into both of them because there's so many athletes and so many different mindsets and so many different thought processes with that we have to stop tearing each other down and understand people are not going to think the same way you want them to think it just doesn't happen. So we move forward and one of the things that I I try to teach our children the ones that I coach is Spartans Youth Sports Youth football one of our sponsors is you know think listen be a listener the Bible tells be slow to speak quick to listen and when we do that you will find a lot of great things uh beginning to happen and great things happening OMG yesterday what we'll say Monday June 1st was a big day two major trades went on in the NFL first off traded to the Rams for Jared Verse and multiple draft picks the Rams are all in folks the Rams said the Rams said in February 2027 they want to have the big trophy they want the big trophy they put it Stafford's coming back for another year coach is coming back for another year they're putting everything all their eggs if you will in one basket they're sold out for it if anybody says anything different they're not paying attention the Rams are all in for this year they have a tremendous receiver they have a tremendous defensive lineman a defensive end edge rusher now and Garrett returning league MVP tremendous coach now what if what if Donald decided to come back that would be crazy that would be that I because he's already still in great shape and you got him and Miles Garrett up on a you're not stopping that defensive line you might just you know what you yeah that's what that would be crazy if he came back and then AJ Brown goes to the Patriots and I think this is good for him he needed a change of scenery um he was not very he was he wasn't happy in Philadelphia anymore and I'm trying to figure out how this dude could not be happy and he was voted captain three times so there had to be more going on behind the scenes than anybody is is is really saying um he was he was uh he was a tremendous or he is one of uh one of the best receivers in the uh nfl bar none he has done uh tremendous things um when he was with the Eagles his numbers were great and I think he's gonna be really good for Drake in New England and they get a solid running game there they're gonna be tough to beat they're really gonna be tough to beat but but look keep looking for more trades OTAs have started with some teams so I'm sure some some more trades will start coming down the line uh moving around players uh and looking at it but I would I would say right now the Rams a lot of people haven't picked in front runners off of that trade to uh to to win the Super Bowl the Patriots have to go to the forefront once again to win the uh AFC East with the with the pickup of uh AJ Brown and we will see what happens uh from there as they continue to move forward what other moves will be made as they continue to move forward OJ Beckham back with the Giants at and and I don't I think he has maybe one maybe two good years left in him but he'll be really good for Dart uh with that having a uh a a seasoned receiver to coach a coach up and play with a lot of these cats that are are there with the Giants. So the NFL is we're getting hot and heavy we're 100 days I think 99 days now away from the first game not that I'm counting down I should get a calendar and put it up and every day just mark it off to to see as we go through each day as we get closer to the NFL season. So ticket prices NBA championship series let me get into this part I got the Spurs in six yes it's a home recall but I think the Spurs I think they just have a few more weapons now shut down Bronson it's you don't shut him down you just try to slow him down but you're not gonna shut him down uh he's a killer you don't you don't want to be in in a clutch situation at the end of the game because he is a finisher so the Spurs need to make sure they're up by at least 10 with 30 seconds left because that dude's crazy Bruns is crazy but the uh the the biggest how does um how do they handle the bigs how are they gonna handle Wemby or how's Wemby gonna play now because he's gonna have to do more than he's not going against Chet Homgren anymore um and and he's gonna have to he's he's gonna have the ball he's really gonna have to step it up and and and really make some um make some plays defensively and offensively but his supporting cast is going to have to be that much more the greater as well because he can't do it on his own. There's no way in the world he's gonna handle that Knicks uh front line on on his own without these other guys really stepping up and making a difference. So these Spurs outside of it these Spurs are really going to have to step up and be the ones that say hey we're gonna we're gonna be ones that uh we're gonna come in here and we're gonna make sure that you're gonna get yours. He's gonna get his Brunson's gonna get his but who's gonna step up to help him with Carl Anthony Towns how they're gonna play defense with that because they're gonna want to pull Wimby out of the out of the out of the lane so Brunson and and and and uh Onyunabe and and those cats can get shots in the lane and get drives to the lane because nobody wants to go in there with that 7-4 monster like they call him an alien nobody wants to go in there with him so cats going to have to find a way to pull them out where they change up the defense where the Spurs change up their defense will they start off big I don't see them um starting off with both their bigs on them because it'll mess up their rotation but they're really gonna have to play big uh and and we'll see what what I I'm just interested in the strategy that they use to defense these guys because uh fox I don't think they'll put fox on Brunson I don't I don't see them putting um fox on Brunson maybe Vassel uh one of those guys because I don't think Fox can stay with um I don't think he can stay with Brunson um too long so I you know maybe Vassal uh so you know more a better defender not that Foss can't defend but he's not one of the best ones Harper I think Harper would be really good even though he plays the two guard I think Harper would be really good on him to D him up put more size on him Harper at 6'5 uh that's a big guard that you're putting on him size-wise that will really make him have having to shoot over him will be really good of course you got Victor and Beyond you know Wembiambi that we already know nobody's sticking him Anthony I don't care who it is they're not if he's hot he's hot and he's gonna leave the lane mode open unless they put him unless they put I I know I messed his name up they might put him on Wemby uh and and let Carl Anthony still patrol the lane uh with that but Castle I can see I said Vassel Castle um being on on uh and that's a big guard too at 6'6 him being on Brunson would be really good and then Vassel and Vassel's 6'5 so if you look at it and looking at it the Spurs have some big guards and those big guards and I and the small the shortest one is 6'3 so that's a lot of um that's a lot of size Brunson's running into now Luke Cornette that would be that would be unique to see if they put Cornette and Wimby on the court at the same time I doubt it uh because that would kind of clog up the lane but um you really don't have too much more coming off the bench outside of that unless you want to really dig deep if they ever got into foul trouble. So I got the Spurs in six and once again um who's ever supporting Cass steps up first and the best that team's gonna win the NHL championship Vegas versus Carolina I don't know all the players I apologize but Hurricanes have been mauling teams uh but and they're gonna win the seven there's a certain attitude that um that the uh Turnelli brought to Vegas and it's funny because they fired their coach with or Twitter I'm sorry they fired their coach with like 10 games left and this guy took over and he brought such an attitude to them and so it should be a good series it should be a really good series but I got to Hurricanes at seven and um game one is Tuesday which is um by the time this comes out the game one will already be over but and then of course we got the prediction for basketball for the uh Spurs in six this is awesome Texas has a the the it's an all Texas women college world series for the uh championship NCAA championship and it starts tomorrow and it's Texas versus Texas Tech which I believe is a rematch from last year so it's it's the uh I'm I'm excited about that because I I do one of my daughter Sarah she probably She played softball in the high school and she was uh she was pretty good at it. But I I do love I do enjoy watching uh the women's softball. Those girls get after it. Those those young women get after it, and it's a lot of fun. So uh I'm not picking anyone because long as it's two Texas teams, uh I'm good with it. I'm I'm good with it. Two Texas teams taking over Oklahoma. I'm good with it. So, and with that said, I want to close out with something. I want to close out with congratulating all the class of 2026. Uh congratulations. You've you've gone a great distance in your life. You're graduating high school. Uh one of my grandsons is graduating high school. And but I do want to encourage everybody, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, but especially these young people that are graduating, understand something. And everyone I just named already knows this. Life now goes that much faster. It seems like every step you take down off the stage seems like another five to ten years. You start off and it's, yeah, I just graduated high school and everybody's having a great time or kickback, relax. Then it's you're in college, and then you're graduating college, or you're in the military, or you're married, or your children, it just seems to go, and then before you know it, your children are in high school, getting ready to graduate. They're going through the same thing, and now your grandchildren, your children's children are going, and it happens so fast, it happens so fast. It's uh you you you I mean, it's like wow, you can't even, it's like you blink. And I can think back to with my great-grandmother, it was just boom, boom, boom. We know so many of us, because she lived such a long life that she lived and saw her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren graduate uh from high school and move forward. But life goes so fast. So enjoy this time period. But be smart. I'm not saying go out. I'm not saying go out and do anything crazy or stupid. I'm saying go out and enjoy your life and all that comes with it and what you're doing. And then in closing with this, I want to give a shout out to the class of 1986, particularly those in Morristown High School, my graduating class, to those folks. Man, it's been 40 years, folks. June 21st, June 21, I believe it was. 18th or 21st of 1986. We were the last graduating class to graduate at Memorial Field. Everything else got moved to the school. We were the last class to play football at Memorial Field. And uh that this is all in Morristown, folks. Uh we played Palmire High School, and um, yeah, we danced on them. We danced. I'm not gonna tell you had a bunch of touchdowns. I mean, I had a touchdown and 100 something yards rushing. I'm not gonna tell you who it was. But I always remember that because it was the last. And so many greats and so many great games happened, graduations happened, went down at Memorial Field. And my class, the class of 1986 in Morristown, 40 years ago, we were the last ones to play on that field. We were the last ones to uh um graduate on that field. So the Jeff Herschquiches, the Sean Hayes's, the uh John Grears, the Carla Vespers, all those that I graduated with, all those, uh a lot of them are friends and family that um graduated. And I didn't name everybody, you know, uh one of my close ones, uh Rick Loring, and those that were no longer with us. We've we've lost classmates um over the years, and I don't remember you know, everyone, you know, I know about you know Jerry Gordon and Laura Yals, and so some of those classmates that we did lose, and we do miss them dearly. But um God bless you. And it's been 40 years, and we were the last ones there, so we're holding it down. But thank you all for God, Politics and Sports during this great graduation season, and let us all move forward, trusting in the things of God. Let your cup overflow because God is there to bless you. Be faithful in all that you do. Know God is faithful and He is good. Thank you for joining me for God Politics and Sports. Until next time, stay engaged, stay encouraged. I look forward to speaking to you again on God, Politics, and Sports.
