GPS with Bill Smith God, Politics and Sports
This podcast will discuss three of the most controversial areas and how they relate to us daily. I stand on FAITH and the importance of walking by faith and not by sight. The importance of speaking out in the political field and how important it is. Sports are so important and an integral part of our society. Talking about all three GPS gives us direction in our lives.

We all desire to be a champion and a winner. No matter what life’s challenges bring. When you profess JESUS is LORD your words should reflect that. I look at sticking to your confessions, how we address First Ladies, and the champions crowned in the NBA and NHL. World Cup and LETS GOOO USA. We cannot forget the midterm elections that are quickly approaching and so much more.
Faith, politics, and sports. Three things people say not to mix. So here we are. Welcome to GPS God Politics and Sports. I'm Bill Smith bringing you real conversations on faith, political activity, sports, and the issues connecting them all. Welcome to GPS with Bill Smith. I'm your man Bill Smith, and I'm excited to be speaking with you all today. Now I know GPS which stands for God Politics and Sports, but I want to give you some insight on today's episode. Now, sometimes when we go through things, there's a little ebb and flow. You know, we start talking about the things and the power of God and how awesome God is, we get a certain flow going. And then we tend to talk about politics and it can drop off a little bit. And and then you get to uh you get to back to sports and we're right back into hey, this is this is have a good time and whatever we're talking about. So I want to uh I want to let everybody know what we're gonna talk about, but don't worry about the ebbs and flow, ladies and gentlemen. Just ride the roller coaster because there's gonna be some things that may take you, and we may talk about some things in politics that really get you really motivated to get out and vote, to to make your your uh statements known, to speak your mind and time professionally, not ignorantly. We want to speak professionally. So we are going to look at some things today. I'll give you some insight on some things we're gonna begin to talk about today during this course in this time of God politics and sports. It's kind of hard to talk into the microphone when it's behind your head. So I had to fix that real quick. Anyway, uh, I'm gonna look at some things. One, and how many people claim to uh love Jesus, but then the next words out of their mouth are words of disgust and filth and cursing. Uh, and it's not just in the sports world, the entertainment world. So we're gonna talk about that. We're gonna look at the unnecessary attacks that are brought against first ladies and how we um say things that are totally not just unprofessional, uncouth, unnecessary, and keeps the division and hostility up. So we're gonna look at that. Also, we're gonna look at midterm, some of the updates, some of the um uh predictions, the pronouscations that are going on around the nation as we prepare for our midterms, the 2026 midterms, which could see a lot of different things happen and change in our country. Also, we look at this in basketball and hockey, the Knicks and the Hurricanes, taking home world championships, World Cup, much, much more we're gonna get into and we're gonna look at, and we're gonna have a great time here in God, politics, and sports as we begin to look at these different areas and different avenues and the excitement that begins to come with it. So I want you to sit back, whether you're listening on one of our many streaming sites, platforms, if you will, our streaming platforms, if you're listening there, if you're sitting there and you're watching and you're listening on YouTube, if you're playing clips for somebody, whatever it might be, sit back, enjoy, put your thinking caps on because I want to hear from you and your comments right below. And if you're listening on, now this this is important because we have people listening from around the world on the different streaming sites. Get in there and make comments, and I don't care if it's in a different language. Google, I will Google the language and I will see what you're saying. You don't have to change anything if you're if you're answering from Tokyo, if you're answering from uh uh Brazil, if you're reaching out from Canada, if it if it's in Europe, if it's in Africa, whatever it might be, not everybody graps everything with English all the time. So you might, I know I've listened to people say things in Spanish and say, oh, I have an idea, but I can't respond back. I knew a guy like that when I was in the military. He could understand everything in Spanish, but couldn't speak a lit. He knew the words, he just didn't have to. So if you want, you feel comfortable and put it out there. I will see it, I will read it, and I will respond back to it. Our last week, when I spoke on race, we have people answering from around the country, if not around the world, and I reply back to everybody. So I want because you're important to me, and I want you to know you're important, and I will take that time to and set that time aside to reach back out and talk to you because you're important, your thoughts are important. One of the things I always say, and I've heard so much, I may be the only Jesus that people gets a chance, people may get a chance to hear from or see. Now I'm not comparing myself to Jesus, but I know what I'm carrying and what I'm sharing. So I may be that only opportunity for you to want to vent sometimes. I'm not here to pass judgment on you because this is a no-judgment zone. Uh GPS is a no-judgment zone. God politics and sports is a no-judgment zone. We're not gonna agree with everything. I want to hear what you have to say when it comes to that. I'm not asking you to agree with me, but I want to hear what you and your feedback on that. So, one thing is after we, you know, we're talking about the things of God and we talk about those things in politics, we're gonna spend some time talking about the Knicks and the hurricane and their winning. Because I have some really good insight on my part, not so much with the hurricanes, because they would they played a tough series against the Kings. But seeing the Knicks beat the Spurs, and not because I'm well beat, I am a Sixers fan. You can see that I tell you all the time. But my next thing is, of course, the Spurs, because I live here in Texas. But seeing what the Spurs did and how they did it, and how they dismantled the uh how the Knicks, excuse me, dismantled the Spurs, something we I want to get into because it really crossed a broad amount of things. So, once again, sit back, put on your thinking caps, send me your thoughts and your comments, and know that uh every time you send a comment, it crosses and makes our views even greater, and it leads me into having even more great grass. I already started off my first fruit was Dr. Bishop Michael Brown, and now we're just gonna keep keep moving forward. We're gonna keep moving forward. So that really kicked open the door and his uh and the great time period of receiving that powerful word from him, and it covered all facets and areas of life. So, this segment of GPS is brought to you by our sponsor, QCraft Sausage. You can text 706-409-3532 or QCraft Sausage.com with backslash Marquez car at qscraft dash sausage.com. And I will put all that in the in the uh comments are for you as well. I just tried here the Texas Heat, Texas Heat, I believe it's called uh flavor sausage. Oh yeah. I ate two of them yesterday and two of them today. Good size sausage, really good sausage, and I tell I I I will admonish you, I'm telling you, get in on this thing because once Qcraft sausage, as it continues to grow, and then when it really shoots off and takes off, don't be left behind. Already be on the train, already be on the plane, be on the space shuttle, whatever it might take. Okay, be like Elon Musk, make millionaires out of people as he becomes a trillionaire, which I have no problem with, and I I cracks me up that somebody would have a problem with somebody else making lots of money, especially when it wasn't handed to him. So just to remember that I said that. So we're gonna look at that. So I have a big issue when people start off and they say, Well, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Savior of my soul, he's done everything for me. Now, this mother, this, and you can kiss this, and F this and S this and B this, because I don't cuss. I have a real problem with that. Because the word doesn't tell us to do that. Over in James 3, 11 through 13, it says, Can clean water and dirty water both flow from the same spring? Can a fig tree produce olives or a grapevine produce figs? Does fresh water come from well full of salt water? Are any of you wise or sensible? Then show it by living right and by being humble and wise in everything that you do. And I pulled out that scripture because we have people that are getting on, and this is all it could be a ministry, and this is just what I've seen and I've heard, and I've been like, wow, well, people will talk about how much they love the Lord and how Jesus has touched their heart and lives, and then they're cussing the next sentence. And I believe because when the Bible tells us when the word tells us, and Jesus said it, tradition makes the word of God another effect. And when people live in such a tradition, you get when people live in tradition, and what it is is whatever mommy, daddy, uncle, grandparents did, it's okay for me to do it. They lived a long life, they said they love the Lord, and this is what they did. And it doesn't work like that. Because you can't profess one thing and then live another way, because now you're gonna lose your witness. And you want to share with somebody, you want to tell them the gospel, and and if you if you witness to them and you win them to the Lord, but then they think this is the way they can still do it, then there's a wrong with that. Years ago, and I had to repent for this, and I openly repented uh to the person and as well as before God. Years ago, was I was in the military, I just got saved, and a person came to me, and he just got born again, not too long within the year or so of me being delivered up, and he said, Hey, I want you to help me out. Like what you want, you know. If you hear me cussing, if you hear me, you know, please correct me, let me know, etc. And my ignorance, I said, Man, you handle that on your own. I did it, you can handle it, etc. Within three weeks after that, he was back drinking and doing all the things he he wasn't doing, he had stopped doing. Because I let, and I wasn't cussing, but I let to me dirt come out because I spoke for my flesh, and instead of me saying, brother, I'm here for you, you're gonna move forward, you're gonna defeat this, you're gonna break this. Because what was easy for me to do, which was just to stop cussing, there were other areas in my life that I didn't let go of for years, and I told you about me in pornography. This is after being born again. Years, but God is so good, and I just hope and pray that people start remembering one thing. Proverbs 18 and 21 says, the tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. So please stop doing this because it makes it look like it's condoned and approved. Now I know no one is perfect by any means. I'm not saying that, but I'm saying the joy of the Lord is your strength. Can I get a whoop whoop? Yeah. So the joy of the Lord is your strength. Celebrate the things of God, celebrate everything about God, celebrate his deliverance, celebrate when you win something, celebrate births, celebrate when you've broken through. You're celebrating even in tough times. If someone in your family passes away, you go through something financially, you're still celebrating. Why do you celebrate? Why am I yelling at you? Because I'm excited about it. Why would you celebrate? Because it throws the enemy crazy. He comes at you with different attacks and you don't fold up, you just celebrate. You just keep praising God. And as the words are beginning to come out of your mouth of praise, then you have no words of discontent. And I said this because watching the UFC 250, and this is where I always talk about sports and politics and God, they all blend in with each other. At the UFC 250, or for the 250th anniversary of our country, president's birthday, they had the UFC card. And I'm gonna get into that with a political part of it in a few minutes, a couple minutes. And one person talked about how much praise God, boom, boom, boom, boom, thank God, and then immediately, more than one, immediately started cussing. But then another person got in there and started ministering the word of God and how you you should be born again, how you need to be born again, how you need to accept Christ as your personal savior. If you want to hear it, cool. If you don't want to hear it, that's that's between you and God. But his witness, he never lost his witness with his mouth. And now I haven't cussed since I got born again, but I know I lost my witness with my mouth. Because you can say things to people, it doesn't always have to be cussing. And please, I'm not saying walk around and you're just a uh a punching bag, and people can say whatever they want to say to you. There are times you stand up and you defend yourself. I know this. Um, and I always tell I don't walk around growing up out of my fight. No, I walk around like as you get older, you get wiser. Now, you're not gonna walk up and just slap me, and I'm gonna say, Oh, I'm a Christian, I'm gonna turn the other cheek. I'm the only cheek I'm turning is my foot up in your cheeks. That's it. That's just me. That's my hostility part. And no, I don't lose a witness at that because the Bible said the heavens suffer violent and the violent take it by force. Also, Jesus sent the disciples out when he went out, when he was descending into heaven, and he said, ascending into heaven, excuse me. The one thing he says, you put on a sword. So that means you're going out and because I'm not here with you anymore. So you're allowed to defend yourself. I'm saying with your words, don't be so quick to tear things down because you can lose your witness. And we don't want to lose our witness. We don't want to surrender the platform that you may have because we know that your words have great power and your words cover a multitude of genres. Your words just don't stick right here in when it comes to the things of God. They also roll into the political area. And when one UFC fighter got up there and he thoroughly disappointed me. Great match. He won his fight, he beat my man Lewis, knocked him out, etc. And he said a whole lot of stuff. And then he attacked Michelle Obama for no reason. Nothing behind it. I am not an Obama fan. I don't run around talking like that. But I thought what he did was utterly disgusting and totally uncalled for. And whether you want to jump on a bandwagon with people and say, oh, she's a this and she's a that, nothing ever came out, nothing biological. And the other part is mind your business. If this woman is at home minding her business, and you come at her that way, you want to come out here politically, you want to say that she's far left, that she's radical, that her mind said, that's politics you're talking. Because she's done it where she's called people fascists. She said this, she said that, but everything she said, we may not have liked it, but it didn't attack a person, it attacked their ideology, it may have attacked your thinking process. That I don't mind because we're not gonna agree with everything. I can say a bunch of stuff about cowboy fans, but I'm not talking about them in their personal life. And to overstep that was really disappointing to me. So I am appalled by that attack on the former first lady. But I'm appalled about any attack on the first lady. Now you might say, well, what about Hillary Clinton? Hillary Clinton jumped into the in the into the political side of it when she started getting impossible. So she stepped out of just being a first lady. She became a candidate. And and she says things that open up opportunities. But even with that, I would not I would not accept anybody saying that about her, that she's a man. You know, you you say, oh, Michelle Obama, she's a man. No, stop. Just stop. I get disappointed when people say, well, there's no pictures of her being pregnant. And I don't understand it. I don't get it. Why that is so important. One, her husband's still in public figure, but he's not running this country. He may be running the Democratic Party behind the back. And everybody knows he's the puppet bastard. But that's his call. And he even said that his involvement back in it again almost cost him his marriage. But instead, and then even when she got back in and she was attacking uh uh uh now President Trump or candidate Trump, well he's a president again, but he was candidate, even when she was on on behalf of of Kamala Harris. One I think well, I don't know for sure, but I don't think she's overly thrilled, she was overly thrilled with Kamala. But hey, it was every anything against, and I'll tell you why that, because it took so long for them to acknowledge her as the and endorse her as the candidate down to the very last minute before he before they did it. Uh usually if it's somebody that you're you're on board with immediately, they get that endorsement. Anyway, all those things that may have gone on, but saying what was said was unnecessary and it was totally disgusting. But I want people to understand this. The same way, the same energy that you admonish someone for what he said, and that UFC fighter. I want to understand I want many of these pundits, many of these people who think it's funny, the Joy Reid's, the uh Jimmy Kimmels, um the you know, all these folks who will say these things um when you get on the view, the Joy Behires, whatever it might be. I want you to use the same energy that you're using on this malicious attack against Michelle Obama, you should use that same energy to come at people who attack our current first lady. Because she is she is never entered. If you think about it, she doesn't even talk about opposite candidates. Whoever's running against President Trump, she didn't make that a point of conversation. After he won, she got back in, she said, This is what I want to do and be a part of for this country for the next four years. She never attacked anybody personally. You've had people, and I've already mentioned of you, attack the vice president, uh second lady, if you will, the vice president of the United States. She was being before in different areas by people, and all she's doing is she's pregnant with her child. That even came under the thumb of people. Things that and I think I say it because it's both sides of the house, it's both sides of the fence, and it's and like I said before, it's utterly disgusting because none of them are saying anything that deserves this kind of attack. And to build up these kind of things to go at somebody, why? Why at this why? That's not like my dad doing that. That's what my dad used to do that when we get in trouble. He'd be like, why? Why? He made that face like that. So I I adopted that face with saying that. But why? There was no reason to go at anybody like that. So we have to be better than that as a nation. You never have to agree with my politics. Never. You never have to agree with someone. If I decide to run for a political office one day, you don't have to agree with the things I say. But don't attack my wife. Now I'm different than a lot of these cats because I'm gonna find out who you are. We can deal with it. And it's not me. I, you know, I have some rather large sons and and nephews, and and you know, I got different connections. I'm not, I'm just teasing y'all. Anyway, you come at me. You want to talk about me and this, that that's fine. But and it's the same thing. President Donald J. Trump understands he's gonna have people say things about him. President Barack Obama knew it. Uh President Biden knew it, President Clinton knew it. Bush knew it, both of them. Now I'm gonna tell you one thing the difference is, and I said this before, a lot of times the attack back in the day was on policies. You had moderates, you had people that were in the middle. They didn't go either way that we're we're here. Then you have people a little more right, a little more left. We are so far right and so far left, nobody knows what moderacy is anymore. And with that, within that, there's no modern decorum when it comes to that. No one ever made negative comments about uh uh Jackie Onassis Kennedy or Jackie Kennedy Onassis Jackie Kennedy. They didn't talk about Lady Bird Johnson, and there may have been rumors of her alcoholism, but it didn't come out. No one talked about Miss Ford, no one talked about uh uh uh uh Miss Carter, no one no one got into Nancy Reagan. You didn't see now were there parodies done? Yes, but they were done classy, they were not done in a manner to attack somebody like you see. Even when people didn't like the the push for music that uh Nancy Reagan and and and uh uh uh I think no, it wasn't Gore's wife, but anyway, and I apologize for that. But the push at music, people talked about their push at music, they didn't talk about them as individuals. They talked about their wanting to uh uh as far as put um warnings, uh explicit lyric warnings and things like that on that. But that's back in the 80s. A lot of y'all weren't even born yet, but nobody attacked those women personally. So I just wanted to let everybody know that I was totally disappointed by that, and I think both sides of the house, and I just got a message not too long ago, or I saw something on Instagram where somebody posted a picture comparing um uh First Lady Trump and and uh Jenner. Why? Why would you do that? You just told me you didn't like what somebody else did. Now you're gonna go back and do just the you're gonna do the same thing and then try to justify it. You can't justify something that you just condemned and you do it yourself. You can't justify it. You can't because you just said it was wrong, now you're jumping right into the wrong uh uh the wrong area by doing the same thing. So within that, the midterms is heating up. The house flipping opposite of whoever's in the White House is not unusual during midterms. Um, and as a more conservative voter, yes, I want Red to win. But I know how history has pertained itself. Over 85% of the time that they've looked at through history, the house is flipped from the opposite of whoever's in the White House. So it was Trump the first time, Obama, Clinton, most of those times. I think the only time one of the times I know I can remember off the top of my head was when Reagan was a president, uh, was Reagan was president, um, and that's one of the things in hold on for a second there. There we go. So that's one of the things that we have to realize, those things are gonna happen. Um you don't see it, uh you don't see it so much in the Senate, where a lot of times they don't lose both. Um, they don't lose both of the houses. Um but you you will see people they're looking at it, you have different prognosticators. Uh some 270 to win predicts the house to to uh the flip, the dems to flip the house, excuse me, 226 to 205, which will give them 21 uh more uh Congress persons in the House over the uh Republicans. Real clear politics gives the Dems uh plus 5% to win back the House, and Senate Peditions are looking at the GOP retaining the Senate and possibly even expanding their amount of their seats. So, with all that said, with all that said, what we're looking at is a mess. What does that mean for the country? It means an absolute mess where you may have far and you will have far left ideology, and we can look at their track record. Gender is or having uh transgenderism with the uh uh, especially with children. I can't tell you what to do as an adult, but with children and pushing that. When you have over 177 Congresspersons voting against a fraud act that would bring people who commit fraud, make them accountable under the law. Yes, they're accountable under the law, but even more so under that. When you when you have things to put votes to protect children and they're voting against it, that's more of the far left ideology. But then on the opposite side, you have Republican leadership that will be over the Senate. So whatever gets voted on in the House, because the House is just a majority vote, by the time it gets to the Senate, it's dead. So there will be things that will be pushed at the House that will get to the Senate that won't even make it to the president's desk. Or there will be things that are the Senate draws up that has to go to the House that won't even get to the president. So basically, if the Democrats win the House, then you're gonna have our president almost as a lame duck president for two years, which does not build anything for a nation. Now, if he was running, if he if he was afforded the opportunity or say this is his first term through, you don't sweat it too much. Because now you have a you have a a fallback, you have a point of where you can point and say, they didn't do this, they didn't do that, this would have helped us, but they kept going against it as you run for re-election. So uh could Vice President Vance or Rubio or Cruz or whoever from the uh Republican side, whoever gets that nomination for president, can they use the next two years? And if the House is won by Democrats, can they use that as fuel going into the presidential election? Yes, they can, because a lot of things will be blocked in the House. Or a lot of things will be pushed out of the House that Americans did not vote for. And that's why you have uh President Donald Trump in there, because uh Americans voted for a lot of things. But with the presidents uh dropping approval rating, especially among the uh uh independents, it's an albatross to many prognosticators for Republicans. People who are already not voting for him, nobody cares. Because you weren't gonna vote for him anyway. Those that voted for him that are uh lean more conservative might be a little concerned with them pulling back away. But he still has a high percentage of the Republicans. It's the independents that he's really getting hit hard on an approval rating, and that very well could uh end up with a lot of things not working out well in the uh his last two years. And remember, last time through his last two years, the Democrats had the House and the Senate. That's why they were going crazy trying to impeach him. Yes, you could take a simple vote and simple majority in the House. Well, you know you're gonna get it. So, so you know, it was 213 to 212, and everybody voted along party lines, but then when you get to the Senate, you need a two-thirds. Well, it ain't gonna happen. You're not gonna have that many votes. But then this is where you run into it. When the president was so quick for the filibuster to be removed, well, Democrats, if they won the Senate, want to be the same way. A lot of good things to talk about and to think about. So we see that, but even in your thinking, even in your thinking, and we're gonna get back up on a high note because we're about to roll up into this championship series in here, but I really just think it's important that people who are listening to this understand some of our political process. And I told you I had some Mr. Tanner, my my my uh uh my instructor and my history teacher in college, um, and it wasn't even history, it was government teacher in college. Um, now you're going back 40 years, literally 40 years. All right, I graduated this is the 40th year I graduated, you know, since I graduated, so I started college in August of um 1986, right after I turned 18, boom, I was in college. So I know a lot and I and I pay attention to it with politics because I think it's important. Because if you don't learn, then you're gonna burn. And you're apt to make the same mistakes again, or you will listen to what anybody says without saying, that doesn't make any sense. And that goes back to the word of God also. Open up your Bibles, folks. Just don't look at what somebody when they're preaching to you say that's it. Open up your Bible. I love one thing with our ministry. When our bishop says the scripture, the words go up on the screen. You know he's reading from the word. But if not, you were looking at your Bible for all those years, he would say, Open up your Bibles, read it, just don't take what I'm saying. Because, and I he's done it on purpose and laughed about it and then told people. He will say something like a like uh uh Bill 3 and 25, and people he said, There's no such scripture like that. Get into your word, get into your word, such things as and go to Bible college, ECBI, Evangelical Christian Bible Institute, look it up on joycenter.org. You don't have to be in the classroom because we do it and it's out across the world. We have people around the world going to these classes. I need to get back in these classes because every day I realize I need to learn more. But within that, and getting back in the classes, I want to talk to those Spartans Youth Football. Parents, if you're looking for a great spot for your children to learn football, your cheerleaders to cheer, which is a nationally uh championship type college uh championship cheer team. And yes, they have been in different states and have won championships. That's how we roll. I'm talking about the cheerleaders. Football teams that build young men to be tomorrow's leaders, whether they at end up at TCU, Eastern New Mexico, Western New Mexico, they end up at a junior college. If they're if they don't play a sport, even go to college, but they're in law enforcement, they become teachers, they go back to school, they become teachers, they become great fathers and husbands. That's what we want to build at youth, at Spartans Youth Sports. They become great women that serve wives, teachers, athletes, coaches, Spartans Youth football, including our cheer squad. But with the NBA playoffs, the Knicks have finally won the championship. 53 years they finally win a world championship. I'm disgusted. I'm not disgusted because I'm not, like I said, I wanted the Spurs to win. My wife loves the Spurs, she loved Tim Duncan, she she loved David Robinson. Manu Ginobli could do no wrong with her. Uh Tony Parker could do no wrong. Those were her dudes. And in the C them win the championship after 53 years, I must admit, it gives my Raiders a chance. Yeah, baby. Yes, yes, we have hope, baby, yes, because it's been since 1983. So right now we're going on 47 years, 47, 43 years. 43 years since we won us championship. We played in it. We got the bricks beat off of us by Tampa Bay, but we played in it. So 43, so I'm excited. I'm saying, man, we can do this. I don't want to wait 10 more years. I don't want to do that. Can we get it in the next couple years? I don't want to be 67, 68, and they win a championship, and everybody's like, oh no, I mmm. You know, let's do it in the next two years. Next two years, three years the most, two years, you know, two years, year, this year. Let's do something about it. I know cowboy fans are ecstatic. Cowboy fans, y'all ain't winning nothing. Even though them bad boys are loaded up. I gotta get a cowboys and loading it up. But anyway, back to this. Three things I really saw in this series. One was mindset, leadership, and coaching. The mindset of the Spurs was super for three quarters. Then they started playing not to lose. Every single game in this series, they were up by double digits. In the third quarter, either after halftime, in the third quarter, or headed into the fourth quarter. However, it may broke down. Every single game, they were up by double digits. They lost four of those games. And they darn well could have lost, they almost didn't make it to game five. So that so they started to do one thing which is really dangerous. They started to play not to lose instead of playing to win. And once you start playing not to lose, you're guaranteed to lose. What do they say in football? Prevent defense does what? Prevents you from winning. And it almost seemed like the mindset of the Spurs was to play to not lose. The mindset of the Knicks was awesome. Because all they said was, we're gonna make our run, and they're not gonna be able to stand it. The mindset of the Knicks was impressive. I may not been cheering for them, but I would cheer for that mindset because you knew one thing until that final whistle, unless they were down by 20 with a minute left, they believed they could come back and win. The Spurs, unless they were up by 20 with two seconds left, they were always looking over their shoulder. They were looking over their shoulder to see are the Knicks coming. The Knicks have come back throughout the playoffs. Against Cleveland, they were down and came back. Against the Sixers, they were down in different games and came back. Against uh uh Atlanta, not only were they down 2-1, but they were down in other games. So it was a mindset that they already had. This is not over. Which goes right into the leadership of someone like a Jalen Brunson, of someone like a cat, Anthony Towns, uh um uh uh leadership such as Obi. Those things, those leaders that were on that court, they demanded the best from their teammates at all times, and they never lost focus of what they were doing. I thought the Spurs being a young team, the ones who were supposed to be their leaders, did not step up and be leaders. I don't think DeAndre Fox was a leader at all. Uh Bert, Burton or Burns, I can't remember his last name. He didn't really get a chance to get on the court to do anything to be a leader. Uh Wimby is not, I thought he was, but his young mindset, he would say all the right things, but his actions didn't pertain to it. I've talked to a few people, a few different people, and we've all came up with the same thing. And I, the one dude, Shaquille O'Neal, it would not have happened to a Shaquille O'Neal team, and I'll tell you why. Because he would have, not because he's 300-something pounds, because his mindset. Now, he was playing with a killer in Kobe. Wimby does not have a killer. I think Harper can be that person. But, and I'll get into the coaching part. I think the coach neutered him in one game. And that 29-point game that he lost. I think the coach neutered Harper. I digress. Nobody stepped up. But Shaq would have gone down on the block, put his hand up, and said, give me the ball. And anybody on this court that doesn't have spurs on their jersey will not stop me. They did. Remember they, or no, some of y'all weren't alive yet. But for those that were still alive, that were alive, you go back to the Portland series years ago, if it was 1991 or 92 Portland series, and they were down big. And he basically told Kobe, get on board, we're gonna win this thing. And he killed Portland. I'm sorry, Sacramento. Or they did it twice, maybe, because I know they were down big to Sacramento. We're not losing this. And Chris Weber, they couldn't stop him. They just could, they could not, uh none of those guys on that team could play, but nobody on the Spurs had, especially Wimby. You are seven foot four, seven foot five, you got an eight to nine foot wingspan. Why are you standing out by the three-point line trying to gun threes? Take your butt down there to the block, get in the middle of that lane, and make them defend you, make them foul you, make them try to push you, do something to make a difference. But he didn't, and it was mindset, and that leadership would have really made a big difference. Fox left him hanging. I am not a I am not being a conspiracy theorist, but almost like he was trying to throw those games. It did. Go back and watch it. I've seen the highlights, and I said, that doesn't, and I'm not saying he was. I'm not questioning his character. I'm saying it looked like that's how bad it was with the turnovers and the and one person said, well, they said it about it. His ankle has nothing to do with him dribbling and throwing the ball to the wrong person two or three times in a row. And that's why I said I believe when it comes back to coaching one, Mike Brown outcoached the Spurs coach. Uh the Spurs coach, uh, Mr. Johnson, he he he first off to get them to that point was uh terrific work because no one expected them, even though I picked them two, to be uh to beat OKC. I picked him two, but not everybody picked him two. But or not a lot of people picked him two, but I just really thought that Mike Brown outcoached him because there were different decisions made that I just I was just why are you doing this? And in that 29-point loss, when they were starting to fall apart and they needed something to stop the bleeding, he left Harper on the sideline. Harper had 16 points in the first half and they couldn't stop him. If I'm correct, somebody said, I think I said said where he only played three minutes and 33 seconds of the second half, or was it 13 minutes, something like that. It was 24 minutes, so it's still a lot of time. He was not on that court in that second half. And when he wasn't on that court in that second half, they started to make that run. There was nobody there on there that was making a difference at that moment. And because of that, they came back. And I attribute that to coaching. I I'll be the first one to say that's coaching. You're the one who's making that's the final decision. You're the one who's gonna put that player out on the on the uh out on the field on the court, excuse me, field. I'm already football minded. You're the one who puts that guy out on the on the court. And you let Fox out there, and Fox was doing everything but lead. And the Spurs will be a tremendous team as their leadership and their maturity grows. They just were not ready, unfortunately. Uh, and it's Harrison Barnes, I said his name wrong. They were just not there mindset-wise to win, and they didn't have the leadership to win. And the coaching part of it, once again, Miss Johnson is a good young coach. He's gonna be tremendous. He has a great nucleus, they can keep them together financially. He has a great nucleus, but he gotta learn how to win. And they learned a lesson. And I love something that uh uh Wimby said, Wimby I'm be said one thing he took from Jalen Brunson was that control and that leadership, and how he has to step it up even more. But you can remember something, Jalen Brunson he won a championship with some of these St. Bridges and some of these other players in college. Three of them were villain over when they won. So he's been in those big game moments. And he had to and he had to battle through for a few years at Dallas before he got traded to the Knicks. And now look at that. They won a championship. So the coaching part of it, the MVP was Jalen Brunson. He had a tough series, but he stepped it up when he counted uh in crunch time when he dropped 45 points a game. He averaged 28.4 points per game, 6.1 uh assists per game, and he shot 46.5% uh from the field. That's good. That's an MVP type quality. Now, people have said that the Spurs are the team to beat. So Spurs, if I'm correct, Spurs, OKC, Boston, then the Knicks, and then the Nuggets. So they're the five teams betting-wise that they're picked out to uh to win the championship for next year. Nobody mentioned my Sixers. Trade Joel and B. So we can win. Let's go. I like Joel, but he's on the ground too much and he's hurt too often. The Carolina Hurricanes, they walked that aisle. They walked that aisle. And they knocked off the Las Vegas Golden Knights. First championship after 20 years. Basically, the backup goalie came in, did a great job. He replaced uh Frederick Hent Anderson. And the oldest Conn Smith winner ever was uh Jordan Stahl. He had six goals in the finals. I'm a hockey fan. The Hurricanes whooped my flyers. But uh from what part of the games I did see was a very exciting game. Very exciting game or series. Uh a couple that went into overtime. And um I thought it was great. I I thought it was absolutely great. I thought it was terrific. Uh, the series. From what I had a chance to sit down and watch the series, uh, with that, I thought it was a great series. I thought it was really good for hockey. The one thing with hockey is they're never going to leave you disappointed uh when it comes to those playoffs. Them cats get up. Them cats get it on. They do. And because I'm such a hockey fan, hats off to the uh Carolina Hurricanes. And I hope the Phillips, the Flyers, excuse me, the Flyers build back better. Um they made a great run at the end of the year to even get into the playoffs. Knocking off the Pittsburgh Penguins was great. But then, then losing to the Hurricanes, and the way they did was they got mauled. Um, and they were up in one game, they almost won an overtime after that. It was all downhill. But they played harder the whole time. And the Hurricanes are they are champions, and I think they're pretty much betting odds as well to repeat come next year. Finishing up real quick, USA, USA in the World Cup. Awesome job, gentlemen. On that first round game against Paraguay. We have Australia coming up this weekend, looking for another big dub from you. You set records, uh, which is awesome. These cats scored more goals in one game than they did in all the tournament the last time they were in. Which is what, four years ago, 2022? They only had three goals. They have four in this one game. I did pick them to win, and I said it. You heard me say it, I did pick them to win their uh a group, and then go into the final 32, then after that, it's on. Spain had a wow, crazy tie against Cape Verde. Um, I mean, I think Cape May, New Jersey is bigger than, you know, Cape Canaveral, maybe. That ain't even a city, but that might be bigger than Cape Verde, but they would they were able to knock them off uh with that, uh, but that tie was as good as a win. Because the soccer, the way the points are, you get one point for a tie, nothing for a loss, and three points for a win. And then they use the uh uh aggregate total goal score. So right now they're sitting right there with Spain, and whoever else in their group, I don't know the other two teams who played, and I apologize for that. But if one whoever won is sitting on top, and of course whoever lost at the bottom, but they're still in a good spot to uh to make a run, and maybe they slip in there. Uh Germany had a little bit of battle in the first half, and Germany opened it up and they and they put it on, folks. So from the games I've seen so far, the only thing, the matches I've seen so far, the only thing I asked for is soccer. It stopped rolling on the ground every time. Instant replay show the guy didn't even touch you. You're rolling around like you got shot, like like like Tanya Harding hit you in the back of the leg with a stick and you're rolling. It was the chance somebody else do it, but anyway, you're rolling all over the ground, you and then all of a sudden you're miraculous supernaturally, you heal, you jump up and you're running down. Stop rolling around on the pitch, man. Get off the pitch. That's the feel for y'all, okay? If y'all don't know what that means in soccer, get off of there. Get out there and play hard. Get out there and do what you gotta do. I love watching, I'm not a big soccer guy, but I like watching the World Cup. And even after the U.S. gets eliminated, I'll still watch the games because I love great competition. And a lot of people have France or Brazil in the mix, maybe Germany, to win the championship. I think Germany is the pick, if I'm correct, Germany is the pick by many to win the championship. But we will see with this World Cup. But with this said, I'm gonna finish up with this. June 21st is Father's Day. And I want to give a shout out to all you great fathers out there. Even if your children aren't in the house with you, but you're stepping up and you're being a part of their lives. And I think that's awesome. And that's the one thing our country needs to do better is step up and be dads and be fathers and be men. It doesn't take it's a short effort to plant the seed, but it's a lifetime of effort to raise that, to raise that fruit from the seed that you planted. And I pray for even those that maybe mama is not giving them a chance to be a father. You keep praying, you keep pressing, you keep pressing out to be a part of your children's lives. But those that are in your child's home, remember one thing. Don't be in the house, but you're never in the house. And what I mean by it is that you're in the house with your children, but they don't even know you. Make sure your children know it. So, you fathers, you men that are stepped up, you awesome men have stepped up. I applaud you. There are men, my father, William Smith Sr. He's a battler. And I think he's raised four awesome children. That's me and my three sisters. I'm like, I make it the most awesome. I mean, they're cool, but I'm the most awesome out of the four of us. No. Uh my bishop, Dr. Brown, and something God hit me with. You could be a father to many. Because, like Abraham, when they say Father Abraham, centuries down, your words last and they live on. Words that my grandfather spoke to me, my father spoke to me, I spoke to my children, and now they speak it to their children. My sons, they speak it to their children. So those men, the those men at Joy Center, that that my brothers, those men that I work with in law enforcement, who battle on the daily. They miss things. Someone will be working this weekend, they won't be home for Father's Day. But I know that the price that they're paying is for our nation and for their children, and their children's children. Those men that I coach with, my sons, my sons are awesome men. First off, they're awesome men of God. I think they're great husbands, and I think they're terrific fathers. I don't have to agree with everything, but you know what? They learn how to be men. And I praise God for that. And I brought that other thing up about being a father because one of the greatest men I've ever met is my brother Charles Newman. And he passed away in 2022. But years ago he prayed, we were praying, he prayed over me. He said, God said you're gonna be a father to many young men. And I laughed about it because I was like, I ain't having a whole lot of kids. My wife and I, we ain't going out like that. But it's the impact that is made, whether it's through coaching, whether it's through ministering, whether it's through work, things that are said that can make a difference in others' lives. So I really want to say happy Father's Day. God bless you. Serve the King of King and Lord of Lords. Always there's only one to really acknowledge, not the wrestling side, but always acknowledge him in all things that you do in your life. And y'all have a great my cousins. Man, I got some awesome cousins with some great children. And I see them being great fathers. But y'all have a powerful and awesome. Go to church, man. Get out and hear the word. If you can't get there, go to joycenter.org and see what Dr. Brown has for us because he has a powerful message for men. He's already said that. God bless you. Have an awesome and powerful day. This is your boy Bill Smith, God Politics and Sports, and happy Father's Day. Well, folks, that wraps up this episode. Today's episode of GPS, God Politics and Sports. Thanks for listening.
