Hello, hello, everybody. We are back with yet another episode of Wonder Virtue Podcast. This is surviving survival mode part two. If you didn't catch part one, go ahead and go watch that or listen to that and then come back to this one. Basically, the first part is me explaining what survival mode is and how to escape it and thrive outside of survival mode. Part two is gonna be if you listen to part one and you feel like you got off scot-free and you feel like nothing applied to you. Basically, part two is just me explaining what it looks like, what it sounds like. This one is really gonna help you understand if you are in survival mode or not. If you're not, then you're not. But if you are, this episode will hopefully help you identify it and go ahead and start your journey to healing and allowing your way to truly be the God of your life. So before we jump in, I'm gonna go ahead and open us up in a prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, Lord God, I just thank you for who you are. I thank you for being almighty, all-knowing, all-powerful. I thank you for being sovereign. I thank you for being my protector, my healer, my deliverer. I just thank you for being my provider, Lord God. Lord, right now, I just come to you with a heart of repentance or any sins committed knowingly or unknowingly, Lord God. Right now, I just submit this podcast to you. I submit this episode to you. I pray that not one word that comes out of my mouth on today's episode does not come from your Holy Spirit, Lord God. If it's not from your Holy Spirit, don't allow me to say it, Lord God. But I just pray right now for the listener on the other side of this podcast. May their hearts be open, may their ears be open. I pray the same thing over myself, Lord God. As we all are trying to become one of virtue, if the listener is stuck in survival mode, I just pray for both of us. I pray for all of us right now, Lord God, that we truly lean on you, that we lean on your Holy Spirit, that we trust who you are, who you say you are, Lord God. Lord, your word says that you are the same yesterday, today, and forever, Lord God. So I just pray that each and every one of us is able to release whatever trauma, whatever pain, whatever hurt that we are holding on to, Lord God, and that we just truly allow you to heal us from the inside out, Lord God. And I just pray that we are all able to rest in who you are, Lord God. It is in your mighty and matchless name that I pray. Amen. So this episode is going to be about what survival mode looks like as a wife and a mother. So we're going to be a little more specific, but some of these things can still apply outside of being a wife and a mother, specifically because that's where I'm at, and I know that this is a woman's podcast, and we're talking about biblical womanhood. I just wanted to kind of hone in on what it looks like as a wife and as a mother. All right, ladies, let's dive in. I am I'm smiling because again, we are on the road to healing. There is healing, there is freedom, there is power in the name of Jesus. So that's why I'm smiling. I am really just looking forward to us just being able to escape survival mode. So we're gonna go ahead and get started. We're gonna be discussing the physical signs, the emotional and mental signs, the behavioral signs, what your thought patterns sound like when you're stuck in survival mode. And of course, we have to talk about the spiritual signs. So I'm gonna first start with the physical signs. I did a great deal of research just to make sure I really, really captivated what it all looks like and sounds like. And y'all, when I tell you, a lot of these things I had no idea had anything to do with being stuck in survival mode. Like 95% of what I'm about to tell y'all is what I go through and what I have been through. Like I said, it's getting better, it is getting better because this is something that we actively have to choose to work at. I have to continue to choose daily to renew my mind. It's definitely getting better, it's definitely getting better. But I had no idea that some of these things were linked to being stuck in survival mode. So we're gonna start with the physical signs. So we have chronic exhaustion, that's just basically waking up and never feeling like you've rested, like you're just you never feel like you're getting caught up on sleep. And it doesn't matter how long you've slept, you just never feel rested or suffering from stress-induced insomnia. You got brain fog, so difficulty remembering things, difficulty concentrating, mental fatigue, communication struggles. It takes you longer to process information as it's given to you. We have neglecting self-care, so skipping meals or always eating fast foods or what's convenient, forgetting to drink water, ignoring medical needs or health concerns, or even letting personal hygiene take a backseat. The next one is physical ailments such as muscle tension, stomach issues, getting sick often, or frequent headaches. And then, of course, the list goes on from there. And then this last one with the physical signs, it's that feeling of everybody's needs comes before your own. So you just never consider yourself first. Everybody else and their needs is always above you and your own. When I hear that, I'm like, I don't even see the issue with that. But that one, there's a good side to that, but there is a horrible side to that as well. Because no, sometimes you do have to put yourself first and you do have to make sure. How are you gonna make sure everybody else is good and you're not good? That's like that's where the toss-up is, but yeah. Moving on to the emotional and mental signs, we have hyper-vigilance, feeling constantly on edge, always anxious, or waiting for the next crisis to happen. So, an extremely miserable state to be in, like I stated in part one of surviving survival mode. Like, that is not fun. That's not fun at all. Now, what I will say is being vigilant, there's nothing wrong with that. That's that's one thing that I'm not gonna not be like, especially when it comes to my family, myself, my children, my husband, my household. I'm gonna be vigilant. I'm not gonna be laxadaisical with my family, my friends, nothing like that. But God created us to be vigilant, but of course, the devil wanted to pervert it and make it something that it's never supposed to be. We're not supposed to be anxious and walking on pins and needles, but we are supposed to be on alert. We are supposed to be on alert, but just not to that degree to where we are just anxious and scared of everything and just always waiting on something to happen. That's not how God intended it to be. Next one we have emotional numbness. So basically, you're just going through the motions as a wife and a mother, but you aren't experiencing any joy, like almost like you're a robot, you're literally just doing things, but you're not feeling anything. In motherhood and being a wife, it's supposed to be joyous. Not saying that things don't get hard, but these are these are joyous times that we are in, and just again, you know, if you if you watched episode one, I gave the different steps on how to survive survival mode, and so you know, one of those steps was to shift your perspective, or a part and one of those steps was to shift your perspective. The next one is gonna be you have a short fuse, so it's like literally anything could happen, and you it's not because you're mean, it's not because you don't like your family, it's not because you don't love your family, you are literally just on edge, and because you're on edge, any little thing, it just causes you to react, you know, and it just it's just not a it's not a pretty scene. So if you find yourself having little small blow-ups throughout the day, and you just really feel that you have a short fuse, or you recognize that you have a short fuse, you might be stuck in survival mode. So the next one is gonna be resentment, and basically, it's like you know, you feel like you're the only one that does not get any rest, you feel like you're alone, you feel like you're not getting as much support from your husband as you should, or even from friends, from family. You just start to resent the entire situation. Like, how did I get stuck in this cycle? Or you just you're pretty much miserable, essentially, and it's like you resent those around you. The next one is feeling flat or emotionally drained or emotionally checked out. So, basically, again, just that numbness. The last one that I put down for emotional and mental signs is gonna be feeling like your brain never gets a break. Now, this one is one that I struggle with so bad. My brain literally never stops, like it's always something going on in my mind, like a checklist of like stuff I gotta do, doctor's appointments, extracurricular activities, what the school year is gonna look like, how much money needs to be spent here, how much money needs to be spent there. Literally, my brain never stops. It's torturous, it's torturous, like constant, constant, constant noise. Honestly, it all boils down to trusting God. Like, honestly, we do not have to sit here and try to figure out every single thing, every single detail, and that is something that I like. I say I'm actively working on it. I I really, really, really am. But that was a big one, that was a big one for me. Still working on it. Now we're gonna move on to the behavioral signs. So we have doing the bare minimum. So basically, you're only completing the tasks that are strictly necessary to keep the household functioning. So that looks like leaving piles and piles of laundry unfolded. So basically, you're washing the clothes so that you're able to wear them, but you're not folding them, you're not putting them away, you're letting dishes pile up, or doing lots of fast meals. So if that's fast food or sandwiches, or you know, not shunning these meals, y'all. I'm not shunning these meals, but if that's something that you do like multiple times a week because you're literally just trying to make it, like that is what that's what we're talking about here. So, bare minimum, not shaming, but the bare minimum is the bare minimum. So if you're finding that you're always stuck in that bare minimum space, you might be stuck in survival mode. Okay, so then we have social withdrawing. Now, this one is a huge one because I did not know that this was linked to survival mode, but it is, and this is something that I struggle with. Like, I'm not gonna lie, this is something that I really, really, really struggle with. But basically, that looks like ignoring text messages and or phone calls. Now, when we use the word ignore, it's not like I'm ignoring to be nasty or ugly, it's just like my mental capacity. Sometimes I'm just like, I can't even focus on a conversation right now, and I don't like starting and stopping conversations, which is something that I know I I know that I am extended grace to do that, but I'm like, I don't even know if I have the bandwidth right now to even start this conversation because I know it's gonna be a deep one. I'm like, I would rather talk on the phone. I don't know. Sometimes it's it's tough, y'all. It's tough, but that's something. Then we have this is something else that I do. It's bad, y'all. It's bad. I'm telling you, this one is really, really bad. This one is really, really bad for me. But we have canceling plans with friends. This is what Google pulled up, but I added this part, or secretly hoping that they cancel. So basically, I'm not gonna cancel the plans, but if something were to come up and somehow the plans get canceled, I'm like secretly, like, okay, I don't have to leave the house. So it's like, yeah, I it's bad, it's bad, but yeah, secretly hoping that the plans get canceled. Basically, for this one, y'all, socializing just feels exhausting. Not that you don't love your friends, not that you don't love your family, but just kind of being out and being social, just being social in general, it's draining, you know. You're in survival mode, it's like you don't even have time for outside anything. It's bad, it's bad. I I know it's bad. So the next one is gonna be doom scrolling or numbing. So, doom scrolling or numbing, basically, that is you checking out any chance you get. So, you're gonna be on your phone scrolling for hours and hours and hours, basically escaping whatever your reality is, is you escaping it. And I can say this is something that's getting a lot better for me. Um, it's something that I really struggle with, but it is getting better. This one is definitely getting better for me. The next one we have is rarely accepting help. So, the first thing I want to say, y'all, if you've been following along, that's pride. That's pride. So we gotta keep tearing down that pride. One, but basically, with this one, inject help or assistance out of fear of being judged, or even because you simply don't recognize how bad you actually need the help. I feel like you have it all together by yourself, you don't need any help whatsoever. So, again, that pride, but it also can come from a place of shame, shame, condemnation that doesn't come from the Lord. So, you know, just submit, y'all. We gotta submit, we gotta continue to submit these things and accept the help. Accept the help when somebody's genuinely wanting to help you. Okay, so moving on to what survival mode often sounds like. These are the thoughts that we have, these are the things that we say, and so if you find yourself thinking or saying any of these things, you just might be stuck in survival mode. So the first one we have I am just trying to get through the day, or I am just trying to get through the next few days. Y'all, the amount of times I say that throughout the week is insane. Didn't I know that was linked to survival mode? Okay, we're gonna move on to the next one. I don't know what I need. The next one? I never have a minute to myself. I am always behind. I feel touched out. I can't recall the last time I did something for myself. Nobody understands me. I'm just tired. I say that so many times throughout the week. Multiple times throughout the day. But okay, moving on to the next one. I just need everyone to not need something from me for five minutes. I can't keep up. I feel like I'm carrying everything. If I don't do it, it doesn't get done. I don't even know where to start. I never get a break. Everyone gets time off except me. I don't know who I am anymore. I don't remember what I used to enjoy. I don't really have hobbies. I wouldn't even know what to do with free time. I used to say that. I don't say that anymore. But I used to say that one. I shouldn't be complaining. Other moms have it harder. I feel bad for needing help. So if you find yourself thinking or saying any of those things, you may be stuck in survival mode. So now we're gonna move on to this last one, the biggest one, the spiritual signs. Here are the spiritual signs, y'all. Instead of talking with God or praying as you normally would, your prayers turn into just the Lord, just help me get through this day today. Or Lord, please fix this situation. And there's nothing wrong with those prayers, but when that is all you pray, you might be stuck in survival mode. The next one is reading God's word just feels like another task on the to-do list. You're not reading to necessarily gain knowledge or to spend time with God, but you're reading because you know it's a part of what you should do, and you're literally just checking off a box. The next one is guilt dominates your relationship with God, so you constantly are internally telling yourself, I should pray more, I should read the Bible more, I am failing as a Christian. God has to be disappointed in me. That guilt just eats away at you, and it's because again, you're stuck in survival mode, and it's like you are actively trying to find a way out. So it's yeah, it's a lot, it's a lot, and I know it is, but I know it's a lot. But if we truly work at this thing and truly allow God to renew our minds, and we really, really renew our minds and we choose that daily, y'all, we'll get out. We're gonna get out. And God is a deliverer, he's a healer, he's a healer. So the next one, y'all. Instead of receiving grace, you're living in a constant state of feeling like you're spiritually inadequate, y'all. And if this ain't a huge one, if this ain't a huge one for me, like just feeling spiritually inadequate, like Lord, are you really trust me with all of this? Like, how me? Me, not me, me, you literally feel inadequate. God does not always call the qualified, he qualifies the called, and that is one saying that I absolutely love and I truly do believe. But if we in the same boat, you know what I mean. Like, just feeling spiritually inadequate, and it that's a real thing. I actually had a moment this morning, the devil was really, really trying to get at me this morning, and I ended up tearing up a little bit, but it was less about what the devil was trying to do, but more so of the fact that God really has qualified me, and he truly does trust me with all that he has blessed me with and all that he's given me. So that's more so where the tears were coming from. Like, devil, I hear what you're trying to say, but no, my God said that he trusts me, he's put he's placed all of these things in my life, he trusts me to do these things, so that's more so where the tears were coming from. But yeah, just y'all listen, he does not always call the qualified, but he always qualifies the called. So don't you worry, you are not spiritually inadequate. God has you. Seek he first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you. And that's true. That's that's a thousand percent true. So as long as we're seeking him first, we're leaning on him, we have nothing to worry about. So don't be worrying about being inadequate because you're not. You're not. God is going to qualify you. You're already qualified, you're already chosen, you're good. He got you. Just put him first, and he got you. So the next one carrying carrying what truly belongs to God, everyone's happiness, everyone's spiritual growth, everyone's behavior, everyone's needs. Y'all, while we are supposed to care about those things, we can only steward how we can steward, we can only do what we can do. Outside of that, we can't force things, we have to trust God. These these things are not for us to carry. We're not supposed to be carrying these loads by ourselves. We're supposed to steward them, we're supposed to steward them, but we have to allow God to be God. We have to. So, those are the spiritual signs there. So, listen, though not all of those things applied to me directly, I do believe that about 95% of that stuff has applied to me at some point in this journey. And like I said, I just did not want to close out the surviving survival mode without at least doing this because I feel like this is something that you know you could feel like you don't deal with because you don't really know what it looks like. So I kind of wanted to just go in detail a little bit and just share with you guys what it looks like. Looking into what survival mode actually looks like when I was actually doing the research and whatnot, it truly did shock me how much of who we are today comes from and like how we how we think and the things that we do and the things that we say our thought patterns, like just how much of those things are actually rooted in trauma. Like, it is it is sad. Like, when God's word says the devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy, like that is exactly what that means because I know I know for a fact, none of this stuff is what God intended for our lives. Like, this is not who we are, this is not who we are in Christ. This is not who God has called us to be. So we have to actively tear these things down and truly walk in the will and the way and the purpose that God has for us in our lives. Really quick, here are the five steps to survive in survival mode. If you want them in more detail, again, go back and listen to part one. We have step one, forgive. Step two, fully understanding what it truly means to trust God in doing exactly that. The next one is relying on daily bread, just having a heart posture of trusting that tomorrow's grace will arrive tomorrow. Focus on today and what God has for you today. Trusting that God He took care of you yesterday, He's taking care of you today, He'll take care of you tomorrow. Step number four is adjusting your focus to praise. So, again, renewing your mind, renewing your perspective, changing your perspective, focusing on those things that are good. Step five is maintaining Christian community connections. So just making sure you're not retreating, isolating yourself, truly staying connected to your friends, to your family, to those ones that will hold you to the fire, like, hey, you know, I see you're doing this, I see you're doing that, you might need to fix that, you might need to check that. Just having that accountability. I'm gonna go ahead and add a sixth step here. Basically, it's finding out who you are in Christ, completely scratching what the enemy has convinced you of who you are. Like when I tell you wipe it clean, wipe it clean. Go in God's word and see what God has to say about you. And if you don't know where to start, listen, y'all. We are in a day and age where we literally, you can literally go to Google right now, type in what does God's word say about who I am. Okay? I did that right in Genesis 127. We are created in his image. In Psalms 139-14, it says, You are fearfully and wonderfully made. In John 1 12 and Galatians 4 7, you are a child of God. In another verse, you are God's masterpiece. In another verse, you are deeply loved and chosen. In another verse, you are a new creation. And y'all, there are so many. There's a countless amount of scripture that tells us exactly who we are in Christ. That's the truth. That is who we are. It does not matter what the devil has tried to convince you of, it doesn't matter what you have done, as long as you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are a new creation. Scratch, completely, wipe out because that's what the blood has done. That's what Jesus' blood has done for you. Wipe it clean, wipe it clean and truly accept who you are in Christ. Okay, so do that. Do that in honestly, if you want to pause this episode and go do it now. Do it now and stand firm in who you are in Christ. Because that old person, dead and gone, dead and gone, wipe clean, gone. Goodbye. I don't know who that person is. Okay, all right. Those five slash six steps is what's truly been helping me through this journey and truly just truly surviving survival mode and coming out on top of this thing. So listen, y'all, I just had to share this through this journey. God has been just showing me so much and showing me the root of so many different things in my life. And honestly, y'all, I'm not I'm not knocking therapist, I wouldn't. Never do I would never knock therapy, but when I tell y'all, Jesus, God, is like the ult, not even like he's the ultimate therapist. Like, I have not had actually, I think I may have had one therapy session, it was like a marriage counseling session or a marriage therapy, a marriage uh therapist session or something like that. But I've never had like a one-on-one therapy session, right? But when I tell you it feels like I have been, like the way that God will show up and show out, if you just ask him, God, where did this stem from? Why am I like this? He will literally show you. And sometimes it's in the craziest ways, like you know, it could be through, it could be through conversation with a friend, it could be through something that you watch, like literally, like you get on TikTok, and a question that you ask God, there's somebody that's speaking on that exact topic, and then there's your answer. Like, if you just ask, he will answer, y'all. Never been to a therapist. You would think, you would think I've been in therapy for years. The amount of growth that has taken place. Like, not even not even to brag on me, but literally to brag on my God. Like, he is the ultimate everything. Like, y'all, he's amazing, he's amazing, he's amazing. So, so the key is y'all, we have to partner with him. We actually have to seek him. We have to actually want healing, we actually have to want the freedom, we have to actually want the deliverance. Okay, so just make sure you are truly seeking him. Make sure you are truly seeking him, leaning on him, ask, and he will answer. He will answer. This isn't anything that we can just be laxated about. We can't be lazy with this thing. Like, this is something that we have to actively work at daily, we have to choose this thing daily. And I say that because y'all, the devil don't play fair, he hasn't played fair since day one, so we don't play fair either. We gotta act like we know who's stepping before us, but again, we have to partner with the Lord. We cannot just sit here and be like, Jesus, fix it, and just sit here and act like there's nothing that we have to do. No, we have work to do too. We have work to do too. This stuff here that we're dealing with that we're trying to come up out of, this trauma, this pain, this hurt, this bitterness, this resentment, this unforgiveness, all of this stuff is deeply rooted. And when I say that, I think about I think about a tree, right? If y'all have ever seen a picture of a tree or like a diagram of a tree, and so you can see the top part of the tree, but then you can also see the ground and you can see the underneath, and you can see the roots. You can see the top part of the tree, you can see the bottom part of a tree. How many of y'all know how deeply rooted those tree roots are? Now, it's deeply rooted. We know that the roots are there, we can't see them. We can't, I mean, unless we dig the tree up, but we can't see because it's underground. We still have the manifestation of those roots that we can see. I'm using myself as an example. I am 30 years old, I started off as a baby. Things happen, those things that happen, those are the roots. You know, same thing with the tree. You start off with the seed, you water it, that's the thing that happens. The roots start to grow, the tree starts to grow. The things that have happened over my life, those are the roots. Same way you water that tree, those are the roots. I get the parallel here, right? We can't see, we can't see the roots, but they're still actively growing, they're getting deeper and deeper and deeper as the years go on. The same way the traumas, the pains, the hurts, the disappointments, those things are getting deeper and deeper and deeper over the years. And just because we can't see what's being done doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The same way, just because we can't see those roots getting deeper and deeper and deeper, it's still happening, you know. So we can't ignore, we can't ignore the traumas, the pains, the hurts that we've gone through because they're still there, and it affects it affects what we see, it affects who we are, it affects how we walk, it affects how we think, it affects how we talk, it affects how we maneuver in this life, y'all. It literally matters, it matters, and we have to do the work. We have to uproot those nasty things that the devil has planted in our lives. We have to. It's like it took years, it took a long time for those roots to be planted. This is not gonna be an easy fight. This is not something that just happens overnight, it didn't grow overnight, so we can't expect it to just now. Don't get me wrong, don't get me wrong. God can do anything, God can do anything. So I'm gonna start there. But when we're talking about the renewing of our mind, that's something that we have to do, that's something that we have to actively choose to do. So that's what I'm that's what I'm saying. Not saying that God can't heal overnight because God can literally do any and everything. Literally, literally, so that's not what I'm saying, but I'm talking about the part that we have to play, and that is choosing to renew our mind daily. Proverbs 1722 tells us that a cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. What this means for survival mode is prolonged stress and burnout do not just stay in your head, having no effect. These things literally drain your body, leaving you feeling fragile, broken, sick, weak, and completely dried out. So, again, like God's word is always gonna prove itself true. So when I tell y'all this is this is nothing but the truth, it's I'm gonna read this verse again. We're gonna read this verse again. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. That just goes to show how important it is to renew your mind, to shift your focus to praise, to not ponder on the negative, y'all, to not ponder on the negative. In Jeremiah 17, 7 through 8, it says, But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. If that is not a word within itself, it says, It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. Too good, too, too good. Okay, so listen, while you choose this journey with the Lord, give yourself some grace and trust that he will carry you and that he will deliver you. I just read a quote and it's way too good not to share, y'all. This was the quote. Healing from trauma is often God's work of moving our roots from the soil of pain into the living water of his presence. The deeper the roots grow in Christ, the less the storms of the past determine the fruit of the future. Too good. Like I said, too good not to share. Galatians 6 9 states, let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Remember, the renewing of your mind is a process that you have to choose to partake in daily. It does not happen overnight or by happenstance. Do not grow weary or tired. At the proper time, we will, we will, and we shall reap a harvest. If we do not give up. So I say that again, I'm ending the episode there again. Don't grow weary. Don't grow weary in doing good. This is the good, it's a process. Don't give up. Don't give up. There will be a harvest if we do not give up. There's a contingency. If we do not give up. If you are not already a believer in Christ, but if there was something on this episode that just really tugged on your heart strings, really make you want to know who my God is, who the God is that I serve, and you just really feel Him speaking to you right now, you really feel Him tugging at your heart. I want to offer you a prayer of repentance and salvation. If you are watching this on YouTube, I'm gonna put it on the screen. If you're listening to this on Apple Podcasts, I'm gonna be saying the prayer and I'm gonna do some pauses so that you guys can repeat after me. So, dear Heavenly Father, I am a sinner in desperate need of a savior. I believe what your word says in John 3.16. And Lord, I thank you for loving me this much. I repent right now for my sins and for breaking your laws. I genuinely ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son, who has died on the cross for my sins. I believe that he rose on the third day for my victory. I now declare and receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. May the blood of Jesus speak on my behalf from this day forward. Thank you for seeking after me and accepting me into your kingdom. Amen. So, yes, ladies, we have concluded another episode of Wonder Virtue Podcast. If you thought you got off scot-free in part one, but you came back and you listened to part two and you watch part two and you realize that maybe you are stuck in survival mode, listen, y'all, it's okay. The reason why it is okay is because now you have the recognition, you understand, and like I say, y'all, and like we all know, there's healing, there's freedom, there's deliverance in the mighty name of Jesus. So listen, start the journey today. Start the journey right now. Pray to God right now. As soon as this episode ends, and it's ending now. I will see y'all next week. Bye guys.
