Each episode invites open dialogue, challenges assumptions, and reminds us that understanding starts when we’re willing to listen.

Welcome to the Amjits podcast, the How I Survived series. In these mental health episodes, I'm creating a space for real conversations about the things we often keep to ourselves, our struggles, our healing, and the stories that shape who we are. Hey everyone, and welcome back to the podcast. Thank you so much for being here today. Um, this episode is very personal to me. I've gone back and forth about sharing this story, but I think it's important because mental health is something that affects so many people. And sometimes hearing someone else's experience can remind us that we're not alone. Um, today I want to share my own journey with mental health. So when I was in high school, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and anxiety. At the time I didn't really understand what was happening to me. Everything felt confusing. I knew something was different, but I couldn't explain it. And the uncertainty was one of the hardest parts. Looking back, I know that both stress and genetics played a role in my diagnosis. But when you're living through it, you don't always have those answers. You just know that life suddenly feels different, and it can be scary. One of the most painful parts of my experience was wasn't just the diagnosis itself. It was feeling alone. As my mental health struggles became more noticeable, I lost most of my friends. That was incredibly difficult because during a time when I needed support the most I felt I was losing the people around me. There were days when I questioned myself and wondered why this was happening and whether things would ever get better. I felt isolated, misunderstood, and uncertain about my future. Over time, though, I've learned that a diagnosis doesn't define who I am. It's part of my story, but not my entire identity. I've learned to understand my mental health better, to recognize when I was needing support, and to appreciate the people who truly care about me. This journey hasn't always been easy. There have been setbacks, challenges, and moments where I've had to keep moving forward one day at a time. But every challenge has also taught me something about resilience, patience, and even self-compassion. If you're listening today and you're struggling with your own mental health, I want you to know this. You don't have to face it by yourself. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it's talking to someone you trust, a mental health professional, or joining a support group, there are people who generally want to help. Healing doesn't always happen overnight and progress isn't always a straight line, right? Some days will be harder than others, and that's okay. What matters is that you keep going. Your struggles do not define your worth. You're more than your diagnosis, more than your harder days, and more than the challenges you face. Be patient with yourself. Celebrate even the smallest victories, and remember that hope is always possible. Thank you for listening and allowing me to share my personal journey and journey with you guys. If this episode resonates with you, I hope you'll share it with someone who might need to hear it. Take care of yourself, be kind to yourself, and remember, you are never truly alone. Until next time, thank you for listening.
