“Medical grade skincare” can sound like a promise, but what does it actually mean when you’re staring at a shelf of serums and hoping for real results? We talk with Karrie Decker, master esthetician and founder of Last Call Skincare, to cut through the noise and get practical about what changes skin and what only feels good for a day. If you care about anti-aging, dark spots, texture, or sun damage, this conversation brings the focus back to the science: active ingredients, how they work, and why true improvement has to happen beyond the surface.

Karrie explains the core misconception she sees everywhere, that “medical grade” is a vague marketing claim instead of a conversation about higher concentrations of actives designed to penetrate and support cellular change. We also dig into how modern skincare science and advanced biogenetic technology can make high-performance formulas more gentle and more consistent for real people with real skin. Along the way, she shares hard-won perspective from growing up in Florida beach culture and why the next generation has “no excuses” when it comes to prevention, sunscreen, and smarter routines.

Last Call Skincare is also a personal story. Karrie opens up about the transformation behind the brand name, her sobriety journey, and why she believes it’s never too late to show up for yourself. She also talks about founding Boozeless Babes Sarasota Social club to help women navigate the social side of sobriety, plus her commitment to philanthropy and giving back locally. Listen through to hear what’s coming next, including new product drops in the works. SPEAKER_04

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast Live. Are you in need of a master esthetician? One might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Carrie Decker, with Last Call Skincare. How are you?

SPEAKER_01

Hi there. I am doing great, Virginia. Thank you for thank you so much for having me. This is exciting.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. We're super excited. We're really excited to hear about you and your business. Can you tell, can you tell me a little bit more?

Building Last Call Skincare

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. So Last Call Skin Care is a medical grade skincare. It's made in the USA, born for my 20 years in medical aesthetics. And I formulated it knowing that actives are the only thing that cause molecular change in the skin. So the catalyst to creating it was when the science evolved to make those high-performance active ingredients gentle on the skin. That has been so exciting for our brands. And the last call name, it's a nod to my sobriety journey.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's awesome! Super cool. Super cool. And your skin is beautiful.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

A Story Of Survival And Sobriety

SPEAKER_04

So how did you get into this?

SPEAKER_01

So it came directly out of transformation. I'll give you a little history to help explain that. So I was born to a 16-year-old mother when with mental illness, and I navigated her instability while growing up in St. Pete. And questioning her dysfunction, I became her scapegoat. And when I was in 10th grade, she orchestrated my abduction. I was pulled out of school and out of state. Three months later, I managed my escape back to Florida. And when I got back, I rented my own home. I earned my GED and I enrolled myself in college all before my high school class even graduated. So yeah, I built a solid career in medical aesthetics. Honestly, I survived by becoming an overachiever, but I was numbing the pain with alcohol the whole time. So the big turning point was at age 50, I met my wonderful husband. I went full no contact with my mother. And as soon as I did, I got sober.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. That's impactful. Congratulations on your sobriety. That's incredible.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you. Almost two years here. 7-Eleven.

SPEAKER_04

Wow. Awesome, awesome.

Medical Grade Skincare Myths

SPEAKER_04

Um, so can you tell me some myths or misconceptions in your industry?

SPEAKER_01

Sure. There's there's actually a lot of confusion on what medical grade grade skincare really means. When professionals say medical grade, we're simply talking about the high concentration of active ingredients that penetrate down into the cells because that's where we create actual actual change that changes lines, dark spots, and texture. Otherwise, we're just sitting on top of the skin with your product hydrating dead cells. And being 52 and being raised on St. Pete Beach during our infamous baby oil days, which we can remember. I personally know what the skin needs to help reverse sun damage and aging. I always say my generation just didn't know any better. And there's no excuse for the next generation. They have all the knowledge and wonderful products, right?

SPEAKER_02

No excuses.

SPEAKER_04

None. Okay, so we know marketing is the heart of every business.

Who It Helps And Why

SPEAKER_04

Who is your target customer and how do you attract them?

SPEAKER_01

Good question. Honestly, anyone with skin. Seriously, the person who's ready for actual cellular change and are done with products that just sit on the surface and do nothing. So my customer is someone who wants advanced biogenetic technology. And I attract them through my large network of the spa industry. Very fortunate to have a good network.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Have you ever thought about having your own podcast?

SPEAKER_02

My own podcast? What a great question. We'll see what the future, what the future shows us here, right? Yeah.

Boozless Babe Community And Giving Back

SPEAKER_04

Um, okay, so outside of work, what do you do for fun?

SPEAKER_01

So I founded a community called Boozless Babe, Sarasota Social. And we're on Facebook and we host events here in Sarasota because one of sobriety's biggest hurdles, as a lot of people know, is the social piece. So I created a space where women can connect, have fun, and not feel like they're missing out of anything. So I'm also passionate about philanthropy in our community. Giving back is just so central to healing.

SPEAKER_04

I love it.
