People or things, you know, kind of pulling my attention and it's no like be still, um, stay grounded until he says go and be selective and say no.
SPEAKER_02Hi, welcome back to the Everything Kingdom podcast. Uh, it is me, your host, Lucky, and I'm so thankful to be here again with you. Uh, we do have an amazing, amazing guest. She's the first female guest that we've had in the studio to uh up to this point, and uh I can't wait for you to get to know her. She's an amazing wife, a mother, a business person, a minister of God. Uh the other things that I cannot even say that she does. Uh she's like one of those people that are behind the scenes secret spies and you know stuff. But all that to say that I'm excited uh for you guys to get to know and hear what she has to uh teach us and serve our community. So I'm so thankful. Angela, welcome to the city.
SPEAKER_00Thank you.
SPEAKER_02How are you doing?
SPEAKER_00Good. The secret spies part sounds awesome. I'm like, am I? Yes, I kind of am.
SPEAKER_02Do you have any hidden talents that you don't tell people?
SPEAKER_00I mean, well, I uh I don't know, hidden, maybe. Um I'm really fast, but that was something I learned growing up. Like in, you know, track kind of thing. I don't know if that's so won a ton of awards in that area. And just showed up one day wearing vans at like sixth grade, um, you know, like a competition, and then it turns out I'm actually really fast.
SPEAKER_02See? I didn't know about you. Completely forgot about you. So I was right on that one. Oh yeah. Okay, so but welcome our viewers and our listeners on the other side of the screen. They have no grid of who you are. They'll have to get to know you. Um tell us who you are and how your relationship with Jesus began and potentially what you do for work.
SPEAKER_00Wow, yeah, who I am. Um, so my name is Angela. Who I am is who God says I am, right? And that took me a while to figure out. But um, I'm originally from California. Yes. Um yes, I love California, um, especially in the winter now that I'm in New York. Yeah. Um I I actually I started my career right out of college um in out-of-home advertising in LA. So I started there as an assistant and then realized that a promotion was going into local sales. So I said, sure, I'll try that. You know, put on my resume. Did that for a couple years. Um, and then and then as life would have it, or you know, and God was like prompting me to move out or do something else. Um, I remember coming to New York and setting foot on the soil here and like feeling like, oh, I need to be in New York, but not understanding why or how. Um so, you know, I guess it it just it relates to my career path because it was um, you know, the desire to move, but then figuring out, okay, how do I get from LA to Cal to New York? Um so, anyways, um did that and then um and I'm talking about who I am, but I'm I'm like, I'm like, because now I'm I'm an ad an out-of-home advertising sales um executive in New York City at this point. And um, yes, I'm a mother of three amazing children. I love Jesus and um yeah, and working for the kingdom is kind of my heart.
SPEAKER_02Uh I've come to realize that uh it's when we're asked like who we are, sometimes we think what we do is not part of who we are. But actually in the Jewish culture, what you did was also part of your your identity. Let's say Jesus was known as rabbi, teacher. It's like you say, teacher, it's like what he did, teaching people actually became part of his identity. But the only problem here in our culture now is that it's perverted that as soon as you ask someone, let's say, who they are, what we we first say, it's like we don't talk about who we are. We just like want to think of like, how can I impress this person with what I do? And that's not what you did. So you explain it really well in like who you are in the Lord, uh, you are a wife, you are a mom, but at the same time, you're like, oh, this is so what I do because also is part of who you are. So you answer the question perfectly. Oh, good. That is true.
SPEAKER_00It's like, yeah, who am I versus what I do? And I and I think I don't I don't mix those anymore.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think I figured that out earlier in my career, but now it's like, oh yeah, here's yeah, here's who I am, and here's what's good, you know, what you get with me, and then I can do all these other things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So amazing. From California to New York City.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Why is that?
SPEAKER_00Well, why is a good question. No, when we um I mean why? I it's you know, it's the Lord pulling and prompting, but uh so the first time that I had visited New York, like I mentioned, I had set my feet here and I just I felt I felt what I didn't know was God calling me, but I was like, whoa, I need to be here. Um but that point of my life didn't make sense to figure out how to get from LA to New York. So I kind of like put that aside. And then a couple years later, you know, my life in LA, it was transitioning and it was just, it was kind of dead, like in ways of like my career was thriving. But personally, you know, I was in my 20s trying to figure out um, you know, my like my main thing would be to to get married, raise a family, be a mom. Like that was always my heart's desire. Um, career was like, yes, I could do things well and I'm and I'm going to do the path, but it was never my number one. Um but I'm not gonna waste time. So, like in the meantime, it was like, okay, build my career. But in LA, it was time to make some moves in terms of like, you know, like for my life. So then I had an opportunity to um write my goals down in 2010. And one of them was moved to New York. I just I was seeking change. And so by the middle of 2010, I was like, wait, I'm still in LA. I haven't moved yet. And so, you know, I connected with my mentor and um he's like, you need to move with a job. And I'm like, I don't want to move with a job. And he's like, why don't you look at, you know, what your company offers in New York? And I'm like, no, I want a complete change. I said, fine. So then I look, and there was one position available um in New York City. And so, and it was it would be a promotion. So I said, okay, I'll like no I'll consider that. And the next day, that hiring manager showed up in my LA office, like, you know, as God would, that's how he does it. He starts orchestrating things to open the doors. So then I realized, took the opportunity, and said, Hey, you know, I'm Angela, you should hire me and let's have coffee. And then in the meantime, the one person I knew in New York City, um, she, her roommate was moving out and at the same timing. So God provided that, like a possible place to live, a possible uh work opportunity. So I signed my lease the ahead of signing my um acceptance for the promotion and um and decided to move to New York within one month. And and as God would have it too, I ended up my office is in the Chrysler building. Wow. Um, the one person I knew happened to live in the West Village. She was going to NYU. So I just showed up in this most in the most amazing uh like experience for starting my New York. Wow. Um and I came, you know, with just a couple bags and my heart was prepared, like ready for what was next. Um and then started my journey in New York. And within that year, I met my um now husband, Eric. So it, and then it changed my life forever. And, you know, 15 years later, I'm here still. I would I didn't mean to stay, but you know, I kind of was like, oh, go, you know, go where you're called and then and then see what happens with the effort, you know.
SPEAKER_02But do you feel called to New York City?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Yes. That's what I felt, I think, when I when I stepped out of the subway. Like I felt like felt Jesus. I felt the Holy Spirit. Like I felt, but I didn't know it then in a way. I didn't know because I wasn't walking with Jesus completely at that point in my life. But I I know that that was that prompting.
SPEAKER_02Oh God. That's just I am fascinated with the stories of how people come to New York City. I thought mine was the creators, but I'm like, now listening to people's stories on how God like ordained them, planned for them to come here and how they've been able to juggle things. And I'm like, recently someone has told me no one comes to New York City unless they have a word from the Lord that you should go to New York City. Otherwise, it's not for the faint-hearted. Like, there's no way you're gonna make it through in New York City if you're not called here. There's so many moving things. So I was like hearing all stretching back to how far you've come and working with the Lord to be here is just beautiful.
SPEAKER_00I mean, if I really think about it, where I grew up is is called SOMUS in California. It's a small agricultural town, like m very few people, um, like it's very small. So the fact that I'm in New York City and like operating in this way too, it surprises me as well, where I'm like, oh wow, like where I came from versus you know what you can do, or I don't know. I just it it uh it surprises me as well. Because if God has that plan for you, then He'll prepare you for it.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful. It's amazing. How did your journey with the Lord begin?
SPEAKER_00It began it began where did it begin? Because I think about like what I'm born into. So I was baptized Catholic. Um just I grew up Catholic somehow.
SPEAKER_02My family, at least they were partly Catholic, would go to church and only on Sunday and Easter, rather on Christmas and Easter. That's how much God I knew. Twice a year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So it started that and then and then I was raised in the Methodist church, but I didn't really connect. Like I didn't connect those dots there. Um and then in about and then I just I didn't really get it. So then by seventh grade, I was like, I don't understand. And then the and then, you know, what happened was God actually, one of my my best friend, still my best friend, um, he ordained us to connect the day before kindergarten. Our parents had a play date, and this family and and my my best friend Mary has been in my life ever since, but they're Christian. And they she had invited me to a youth group in um high school. And that's really where I met Jesus. So it was through worship and connection and you know, just showing up and being broken, especially in high school, that time of your life. Um, you know, and and she, their family would invite me to church throughout, you know, throughout kindergarten, through um high school. So I had an I I'd start to met, I had start to meet Jesus, um, but I had an encounter with him in in high school at the youth group, and it was through worship and just felt the presence of God and and knew it was different, like knew it was him. But then coming out of that wasn't really steward in a way of like reading the Bible or like continuing my path of going to church on Sundays. So then um, you know, like so then I actually I went back to Catholicism, like in college and as I was like seeking other things. Um, but that would be like my church, would be like going to church, like going to church, like, but not really experiencing um the depths of what exists. And I think growing up too, like I would be seeking, like I would sit on my roof, um, um, you know, outside of my my room, just looking at the stars, like I mentioned, the agriculture, like where I grew up. You could just see the universe. So I could see the stars and I would, I would pray and I would ask God. I believed in God. Um, I just didn't know how they all operated together. God, son, Holy Spirit until um, until that encounter I had. And then, and then it honestly it wasn't until and that was when I was 16. And then I like remet Jesus in the same encounter um in my 30s in Montclair, New Jersey. So there was this gap in between. And then that's where God brought me back to that same worship um connect like encounter with him from being 16. And but this time was like, here's what you're gonna do. Like, you know, and I just jumped into reading the word and like it just caught on fire from there. And that's when I'm reading the Bible, I'm like, this is all in here. Like these are all the truths. Why did someone tell me earlier? I'm like, these are things that we say sometimes in the world, but you don't know that they come from the Bible.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So many people have come to um go to youth camps or uh go to youth groups or worship groups or whatever. And like to hear the stories of like where that leads is amazing. I wanted to ask about like with that story in youth and how you studied your journey with the Lord, did it have an impact on what you do now when it comes to ministry?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think in just in general growing and always having this heart to be a mother to my own kids and then and then understanding in kingdom culture how you can be a mother to to other women, other um generations that um I just recognize that the heart is like um always ready, you know, no matter what age you are. Um because you're really experiencing all these like real feelings. And I remember writing them down in my journal as I was growing up in with the intention to show my daughter someday, like because I wanted to be relative to wherever she was, you know, starting in, you know, I think I started in like third grade. And I have like these like, you know, life. So I I guess I say that because it's like it, it's very relative. Like, and we can't forget our youth because that's where um so much development happens and opportunity and you know, growth.
SPEAKER_02That's just amazing. Uh we have a saying that there's no junior Holy Spirit. You probably have a you've heard about it, uh, but literally we're saying one of the stories that I've seen happens to through young people is we are we are having these healing rooms spaces and they brought this gentleman who had an issue that needs to be healed, and we prayed for him and there was no breakthrough at all. So someone had an idea like, let's just take him to the kids. They took him upstairs to the kids and they said like, draw a picture, whatever you feel like God is saying about this man. So they started running around, got a piece of paper, drew stuff on it, and one kid came and put this on this guy's chest, bam! This guy falls back on the ground, and by the time he wokes up, he's already healed. They didn't have to do anything, they just like drew something on the piece of paper, and he just placed it on his chest. So I've ever since that story for me, I'm like they are so pure. Yeah, they are so like innocent, they are not trying to make anything up. They're just like, I think this is God, I'm just gonna go for it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I'm so thankful. But because of that, now I want to bring it to you. You run a kid's ministry in your home.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Tell listeners what's that about and how did it start? What's the goal? What are you aiming to get out of this?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so in um it actually came out of the pandemic. So in 2020, you know, when everything was shut down, it was it was God prompted me, like, hey, you know how to gather women. Um, we would do small gatherings with women, you know, in years before and and hosting in my home. Um, you know how to do that. But what about the children? And I was like, oh, you know, and so I was like, okay, God, so we had this conversation. What does that look like? And it really was like, gather, you know, your close friends and their children, and let's let's just talk about the word and let's bring um conversation into this like really small space at the time with just your close friends and their and their kids, um, and just teach them like there that God's available. We don't need a building. We could just gather and host his presence. And so it started there and it was meeting once a week and and the intention was connection. The intention was to have a space for the kids to be kids. It was all about them. It wasn't about, you know, like structure in terms of like you're gonna sit, you're gonna do this. No, it was like, hey, we're gonna worship, hey, we're gonna um learn scripture, we're gonna, we're gonna talk about Jesus, we're gonna be relative to what's going on in your life, and maybe we'll do a craft or something to connect us all or game. But it was very um, yeah, it it it was just a space to honor the Lord and to connect with in community.
SPEAKER_02How many are they?
SPEAKER_00Well, at that point, it was just, let's see, it was just like five of my girlfriends, and we each have like a couple kids, so 10. And then um over the years, so it it kept going and it it grew because it was never a no. It was kind of a place where you could invite someone too in your local community within that, within that group was like if you met a new friend or I tell my kids if there's someone at school you want to invite, we'll meet on Tuesdays. So it was kind of a space. So I uh, you know, at one point it was like 25, 35 kids. Um, you know, we have a backyard, we'd meet outside and they would play worship. I mean, you could feel the presence of the Lord, like the goal or part of it, or what I recognized was like their worship was like like overflowing into our neighborhood, you know, beyond walls. And that was that's always the it's like how you know, when Jesus shows up, he just there's no boundary. There's and and we want um, you know, so many others to like hear Jesus and the joy and all that and be interested.
SPEAKER_02And has there been the greatest or one, has there been a lesson that you've learned just being around kids?
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. But in terms of I think letting them lead, I think is something that that I've learned how to to to say, wow, like, you know, this isn't about like a structure or me saying, here's what we're gonna do. It's like this is your space and like God wants you to to be a part of his kingdom too. So you, you know, you're in charge, you lead. And so seeing kind of what fruit comes out of that, their confidence, their um, you know, presenting to each other, they they would preach to each other. So we would just assign someone to, you know, to bring a word and they would work with their parents and or themselves and they would just bring the word. Like they're it's so powerful. So I would learn yes from them in terms of um anything from how they how they move and operate to how God's using them, what he wants to say.
SPEAKER_02It's just fascinating. Um because uh I think it's in Matthew 18, and the disciples are arguing of who's the greatest in the kingdom of God and you know uh who will be the greatest, you know. And the way Jesus demonstrated that, he brought a kid in front of him and he showed it to them like see uh if you're able to humble yourself, yeah, if you are able to be teachable, the greatest in the kingdom will look like this. And for me, the reason I ask you that, and you perfectly pointed it out, like it humbles you, it shows you humility to the greatest level. They are teachable, the you know and in my heart of hearts now I'm thinking of one of the things you've just said in this very session. You said that no matter the age, if someone is ready, their heart is ready. I I can I I don't I can't put it right the way you put it, but you're like, no, someone is ready irrespective of their age.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That means that's for me, to me, that's very kingdom thinking. That is very heavenly in the I'm not selecting who and who's not. I'm just like it's like I'm throwing a net to as far as it can go, and whoever's ready is gonna jump in that net and be like speak into that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, that's it's this it's the um the the spirit, you know, the spirit within. It's the it's that, like that's just the heart, the spirit, like it we were just connected back to the kingdom.
SPEAKER_03Where do you see the next generation going?
SPEAKER_02Because you when you put your time and your investment and your resources to venture into a ministry like that, you have a bigger goal of shaping the next generation. Uh where do you see this is I feel like most like a vision to what the next generation is gonna look like. Um what do you see coming out of that?
SPEAKER_00I I felt like my part of it was to raise like um like an army of children, like as if they have to fight, like they have to prepare for battle. They're uh like how how are we equipping the next generation for what God has for them, which I don't know. But I I felt the prompting of like prepare and and m and it's an army. Like they're like, um, that's the best way I can describe it. Like they're in training for what's ahead, which is unknown, but it seems like Like they're going to battle, you know, they're going to go fight, and they have to be prepared at a at a young age now, even more than than before it feels like with the way the world operates. But that that's sort of what so I don't know. I know there will be leaders, I know they will be like, so it's just this idea of like raise them up, you know, and prepare them for whatever God has individually, and then um so that they understand how to come together and then they can fight. You know, sometimes they'll be on their own, but then they need the the full army to like really make, you know, moves um in support for each other.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_02That is so contrary to how I grew up. Where I grew up, as soon as you're born, they tell you how they want you to be a doctor, which is amazing. I don't I don't I don't discredit that at all. It's just I realize as soon as I was in maybe sixth, seventh grade, I'm not very good at math and sciences, and I was like, I don't want to be a doctor. Oh, you're gonna be a doctor. And I'm like, no, I'm not. So and what you're trying to say here is you're letting kids and what God has put in them be developed without having an agenda of what you want them. You have desires, what do you want them to become, you pray into that, but at the same time you're very you keep them with open hands to what God wants to do with them. You just prepare them for what is to come.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's really it. And then and then steward the other things that they're, you know, natural at or have to complete, like like school and that stuff. But but it's really, yeah, I think I've learned that too. It's it's it's because it's your experience with life. It's like life is the gift, you know, and like we're alive and we're breathing and it's God within us, and that's that's the gift. But how are you gonna steward your time on earth? You know, it's temporary. And yes, you have to like, you know, depends on what you're looking for, but yes, you have, you know, you hope for a home, you hope for um a car, you hope for like these things in the natural, and that takes effort and work. So you have to figure out how to do it, but then the heart is is the part that you want to like figure out, okay, how do I how do I actually grow in what God's calling me to do and still, you know, maintain a lifestyle that is your choice.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Uh for someone who's watching this and you're wondering why w get to camp on this for a minute. If you've been in New York City, there are places that I've worked for like almost a whole day and I've seen only one kid, or maybe no kids at all. So this is a city where people have been nervous about having a family or kids at all. So to see someone invest space and time to gather kids and like invest in them, for me, you have my utmost like honor and respect. Because like in here in New York City, most people actually we want to climb the ladder as fast as we can without anything slow slowing us down. And kids will slow you down.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like it or not, they will you are a mom, you know it. I am a dad. And I know for sure that um they will request things that I saw not on the list of things to do, but you have to prioritize now. So you're taking your time off what you do, because you are a businesswoman, and I wanted us to jump into that. I wanted to hear all about I don't even know how I don't even I don't even know how you balance that.
SPEAKER_00It's seek, seek first the kingdom and all will be added is the like that scripture comes to my like that's at my desk in my office too. It's like it it seek first the kingdom and all will be added. And the kingdom is is not about what we do, it's who we are and how we operate. So it's okay. So it's okay. So how is how am I? How is my family? How's my husband? How are my kids? Like, you know, that's that's just a priority of mine. And then it's yes, and the how am I is how am I stewarding, you know, my what what I've what I've what I've chosen to be a part of, you know, which is which is my profession and recognizing those talents and efforts. And and that was a whole thing too of figuring out how that fits into my life. It's not, it's not even not who I am. It's like um, it's something that I get to do, um, but it's for the lifestyle that I have learned I wanted, you know? Um and that's and once you figure out that's where it lives, like that's where it can live in my heart, then it's and and my um and my efforts in action and all of that, then then there's it opens up more space for for the heart stuff, which is what I care about the most, um, which is to build, uh build culture with my kids and do all that, do all that. Um so and yeah, so in terms of like, I guess that's just how I think about it first. And then yes, everything still needs to be done well and to the best of my ability. But sometimes things um yeah, don't happen as quickly, or I have to figure out how to balance things, um, change my schedule and do all that stuff. But but my my heart is always seek first the kingdom, and then everything will be added. So I can't miss a deadline for work, but I can I can wait a few minutes and connect with my kid and say, you know, like, okay, what's going on? Can I, you know, have that heart check and then say, okay, I I need I'll let's talk about this, you know, in the evening, but address it and then move to the next thing.
SPEAKER_02So you mentioned something something that is a core thing of this entire show or this entire book that we God is writing is the kingdom culture. Uh whatever you do on a re on a regular basis, on a repeated kind of like basis, actually, is you're setting culture without you knowing. And what you're doing, you're setting culture, the culture of heaven into these kids. You're setting culture of it's like some things we do out of intuition, out of like a gifting, or out of naturally. We just do them, we think they're natural. But for me, what I'm thinking what I'm seeing in your story is the desire to see something different from what we are experiencing out in the world. And you're not trying to point fingers, you're just trying to change one person at a time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and myself. And I think like I like always, like it's kind of um and I think it's in obedience and in learning, um, like obedience and discipline, um, kind of at the foundation. And I I guess I'm tying it back to like every day when I come to the city, I'm on my way in, you know, I'm I'm in the word, I'm listening to a podcast, worship music. Like I'm preparing my spirit for for the battle of the of ahead of the day. Like that's every day, you know. New York City is no small thing. Oh no. You know, it's like you're I'm on, and we live in New Jersey. So coming in, um, you know, on the train, I have some time to kind of like set my spirit. And then it's like I get, I get onto the ground and I'm like, okay, here I go. Like, let's go, Lord, you know, what do you got for me today? And it's kind of that partnering with him that I think that's how, at least for me, that's how I set my the foundation of every day. And then and then he takes me and then we go, and then I go into my business and I go into um, you know, I my place of business and I'm and I'm there, but I'm with him. And so it's and then that's a whole other challenge of figuring out how to, you know, how to stay in that and also, you know, meet all the demands of a high demand um position.
SPEAKER_02What has been the most challenging thing in this season that you're in right now?
SPEAKER_00You know, when you're like like uh when you plant seeds and you're kind of just rest not resting, you're not resting because you're doing something, but you're kind of like wondering what's going to come out of the season. Like, and you have to stay grounded. And, you know, to me, God was like, okay, refresh yourself, um, slow down, um, you know, make sure that's good first. That was like the whole month of January. And then it's like, then no, then it's like with then with my kids, my husband. And so I feel like this last this season has been about planting. Um, so what's challenging is to have, you know, it's almost like someone's ready to pick you out before you're ready. And so it's getting back into being like social and and kind of, you know, because fourth quarter ends so intense and we do so much at the end of the year that it kind of like the capac I I'm able to, but God's like, no, don't. And so now the challenging part is to figure out how to, how to either like when is the right time to come out and how to balance it in terms of like like, are we sprinting? Are we like like I'd like just like a nice jog or a walk? Um, so I think that's a challenge for me is figuring out how to come out of this place of like um being grounded and knowing God's gonna grow something, but without going too fast.
SPEAKER_03To someone who is listening out there and they're watching this show, what would you say to them if they're going through the same thing that you're going through?
SPEAKER_00I would say to go at the Lord's pace, to still go at the Lord's pace, even though even because what I feel like are people like people or things, you know, kind of pulling my attention and it's no, like be still um stay grounded until he says go and be selective and say no. Because uh a no to somebody is a yes to something else. So I love no. I love saying no. Like, no, I'm not available. No, I can't. But it's because it's so freeing. So I would say continue to do that if you're in a season like I'm in, and then listen for the prompting to not to go and move when it's time, but not too soon.
SPEAKER_02So good. I I am learning the I think I asked that question for me, not for anyone else. Uh yeah, but all that to uh I'm gonna bring this to uh a different kind of conversation, but I didn't want to end on that note. What I wanted to hear is a testimony of what you've seen God do in the kids.
SPEAKER_01Oh, in the kids specifically.
SPEAKER_02Like it could be it could be in the kids and then we could jump in like in the business world after, but I feel like I wanted to sit on the kids thing for a minute.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because like we don't get as many people invested in the children or the next generation like like you are. So I wanted to hear some of the stories that you've seen, or maybe a life change or whatever, uh, to see how they could encourage us as a movement, as a people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So the kids, the kids, our kids, our family's kids and friends, Dave and the kid at the children's ministry, they've gone through many years, many seasons. All of the families involved are actively serving in their in the community. So there's been m many times where we've like gone out, we've done um, you know, we've did Christmas caroling with at senior homes, we've um like decorated kindness rocks and left them at the subway station. We've, you know, they're they're like um they're used to acting in faith or acting out, like, you know. So so uh one of the testimonies is that um uh with the greater hood, my husband and I run a nonprofit called For the Greater Hood. And um, you know, we host pop-up shop experiences and we um bring in guests who who are in need. And one of the ways we bring them to the pop-up shop is on a bus. We go pick them up wherever they are and we bring them to the pop-up shop. So the whole experience is an active place for children to serve. Um, and they'll serve in the store. And I felt God be like, bring them onto the bus. And so we grabbed a bunch of the kids, my daughter included, and um brought them onto the bus. So the bus, if I can describe it quickly, is just that um we show up at our guests' place of shelter. So we partner with different um homeless organizations, um, um, domestic violence survivors, etc. So the people um coming onto the bus may be in a different state of mind than Joy or, you know, like there. And so our role is to kind of welcome them with the presence of God and love and just love on them. So we let the kids know that, but we've also learned it's a space to minister and speak the word of God on the bus. So we brought them on the bus, we've picked up our guests, um, and we've I've seen them preach their testimonies about Jesus and people accept salvation through them. So they would stand in the middle of the bus, like the the aisle, and we just talk about Jesus. And, you know, and and and then after, even or or to build on it, then um, you know, we ask for salvation and then we ask if anyone needs healing. And people raise their hands and the children have gone over and prayed for them. I've seen children lay hands on knees and the knees work. I've seen, um, yeah, I've seen um uh my daughter and and our and her friend pray over um a man whose back was not healed and then he was healed. Like there's and he walks off the bus. Like they're they're just the Holy Spirit's actively working in them and moving through them. So so when we say go, like I'm like, hey, come on the bus, they're like, okay, and they just get on. And then and then, you know, there's no preparation. It's just God within them that's coming out of them. Um, so yeah, so I've I've just seen the miracles of God work through them. Um, I've seen him work through them, um, by them just showing up in in obedience and belief, you know, healings, salvations.
SPEAKER_02So, so good. This is just this is just pouring water on my soul. But I wanted you to end our conversation uh with the work that you do, the business side of you that most people don't get to see. I've always experienced you as a mom. Ever since we met. I've always experienced you as a mom. But the other side of what people don't see is the amazing, brilliant business person you are. You can sell anyone anything. That's what I feel like. Talk to uh listen.
SPEAKER_00Sales is funny that I landed here.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah?
SPEAKER_00I'm like, well, yeah, sales, you're kind of like, what is sales? Like, I'm like, oh, like I said, I was like, oh, I'll just try this job. It's good for my resume. What's the promotion? Oh, local sales. Okay, I'll try that. And then it turned into national sales. I'm an advertising sales. Um, I sell out-of-home advertising. So I work for Clear Channel, which is um a national company. We have billboards all across the United States, um, top 50 DMAs. We operate in airports and um and and we can we have like full market coverage of of the country, essentially. So what I do is I'm on a team of 20 people, and we can sell um out of home across the country. So a brand would come to to me and ask about um, you know, delivering their demographic or their audience. And so I would come up with a plan of how out of home could do that, um, you know, from LA to Miami to Chicago to New York to Texas, all across the country, um, and then build that that plan and and negotiate and land on a deal and then, you know, post their their brand up on a billboard.
SPEAKER_02So it is possible for someone to be a business person like you are, and be a minister and be a mom and be a wife, and be all those things.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02What I'm looking to see here now in the business side of things, how have you seen the kingdom of God or the culture of heaven in your line of work?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I've been in the out-of-home industry for 20 years now, which is wild. 20 years is a long time. Wow. I've seen, I've seen actually the opposite of kingdom. I've seen, I've seen, I've seen like, and I don't know if that's just in business and learning, like as you grow in business, what and and work at in corporations. Um, I've been through a couple different companies um to know to know what's kingdom, what's not. Like I think that's part of like just growing in your career path and with the Lord. Um, but I've seen kingdom, I've seen kingdom more recently when I've chosen to host the presence of God um in my workplace, um, to choose to be praying and prayerful in my hallways, um, to be available to offer prayer, to be bolder in those areas. I know the last couple of years I've felt like be bold, you know, like like show up, like be your and and I think that it is hard sometimes to do that. But in the last couple of years, I'm trying to be more open to, yeah, like, hey, do you need prayer? Um now people in my office know I'm, you know, I'm a believer and they like, they're like, pray for this deal, you know, like they're it's like a, you know, it can be a joke, but I'm like, oh no, watch God do it, you know, like watch him do it. And so yeah. So I so it's um, so I've seen kingdom, I guess, through my own, like through, through, through like the act of living God within me and then partnering with him to just be more bold. Um, yeah, because I'd love to like, um sometimes I'm like, where's all the Christians at? Like even within my industry or like my the co the corporate world. And we're we're out there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But why are we not like, you know, hey, let's, you know, like praying for more or I don't know. It's tricky sometimes, I guess, with culture. It's not easy. It's not easy, but it's kind of just like, you know, it's but it's what the Lord wants. Like He's He's really active in all of us, whether we know him or not yet. So it's sort of like what's how are we gonna work with him in our day, day to day?
SPEAKER_02I have to think that if God has placed anyone in a workplace, in a work environment like that, you're like the modern day Joseph's, modern day Daniels that get us placed in people that you think are crazy, but his love and pursuit of them is just why you're there in that place in the first place. So that you could intercede, so that you could pray, so that other people could see the kingdom in how you work, in how you excel, in how other in all other things. But I would love to have you again, because I feel like I want to dive deeper on that kind of subject. And uh what I want to uh how I want to end this thing today is what would be the one thing you feel like you didn't talk about if there's anything that you didn't mention that sh maybe slipped out of the way or we forgot to mention it. What would that be?
SPEAKER_00Oh, well thank you for having me and just uh being open to conversation. I hope it was um fruitful. No, I really wanted to just talk about identity and in general, and I think we did, just knowing um, you know, who we are versus what we're doing and having that confidence and reminding people that um you are who the Lord says you are, not who someone else tells you you are. And there's just so many truths in scriptures, you're fearfully, wonderfully made, you know, be bold and courageous in those moments, but you you actually have access to it. And so I would just encourage people to know that because from that place, like all things are possible with the Lord because He's gifted each of us with special gifts that can't be comparable. And if we if we can figure out what those are, then then the sky's the limit. And that's when that because God will do the impossible through you if you believe and partner with him and and have um that understanding that that it's him doing it, you know, while you're seeking him.
SPEAKER_02This is just beautiful. I you know, some we have a saying in uh where you grew up where it says that nice things always end on a note like that, they end on a very high note. They like taste really better when they are ending. It's kind of like Jesus' wine at the end, you know, the last wine, but it's amazing. So if this has blessed any of you guys that are watching and uh gonna be listening to this, thank you so much for tuning in. This is the Everything Kingdom podcast. And if you are able to subscribe to the channel, that'd do us so much good. That means another person is gonna be able to hear the gospels preached to them because of your extension of this show. Again, if you are able to share this, that'd be amazing. But other than that, I wanted us and us as a community to thank you, Angela, for one coming in today. Thank you for honoring the show and serving our community with your wisdom, with your insights, with your time, with your resources. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I wanted to ask one last thing, and that's gonna be you to pray for whatever that is on your heart for us, for the people who are watching this show. And that's how we're gonna close.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Lord, thank you, God, so much for this time that we had together. Father, I thank you, Jesus, just for who you are. We just honor you, God, and we thank you, God, that you're always working in us. I just pray, God, over every person listening, Lord God, that they would know you more, that if um curiosity has sparked, that they would seek and ask more questions about you, God. I thank you, Lord, that you have gifts for each of us, Lord. And I pray, God, that we would each find those gifts, those jewels, those diamonds, Lord, that you would help us um to pull out the best in us, God. I thank you, Lord, just for all that you have. And I thank you, God, for the impossible. I thank you, Lord, that all things are possible with you, that you are a miracle worker, that you are king of kings, that you are just you are the Prince of Peace, Father. And I thank you for that. I thank you that we have um that we're able to, that we, that we have access to that. So we love you, Lord. We praise you in Jesus' name. Amen.
SPEAKER_02Amen. We are going to break bread as we end this. But these are my takeaways from you speaking. One, seek first the kingdom of God. Matthew 6 33. So favorite verse. I'm trying to borrow it from you now. If you're going through a challenge, go at the pace of the Lord. Go at the pace of Jesus. Another takeaway is everything stems from your identity in the Lord. That's how everything functions. If you're wondering who you are and what God has called you to be, Angela just taught us that actually seek what God says about you, not what people say about you. Everything is kingdom. She also mentioned that even in workplaces, God is able to show up. You can pray, you can be bold. At the same time, you're preparing the next generation and you're doing the simple things by I can maybe not stop my like deadline at work, but I can spare two minutes to talk to a kid, to talk to a person, and then maybe set up an appointment for the future.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02Brilliant. Well put. Thank you very much. Let's just break bread because I want to make sure that you get out of here before it's too late. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you. I think we're gonna end the show and whatever this is, we're just gonna put it in the end. So no pressure. Jesus, thank you for your but your body. Thank you for all that you provided for us. Thank you for this team, and thank you for our guests that are coming in. Thank you for the wisdom.
SPEAKER_03And we declare that by your stripes, God, we are healed. Yes, sorry. Thanks, God. Thank you, God, for your precious blood. Thank you for your kindness and glory. We give honor to you, God.
SPEAKER_02And we speak this for the next generation, for the kids that Angela's talking up talking about, the ones she's that that are under her care, even at her workplace. We agree with her in faith that whatever she's pursuing, God, would you extend your hand of favor towards it? God, we pray that actually you go before her at her work in her businesses. There there be deals that are unexpected, that there be moments that actually she did not even pray about, but you get to work in glorious ways to see those things come to pass. May you fulfill all the desires that she has, but above everything else, may you see the person transformed the intended person in Angela and her team, that which you intended to come, that at the end of the day, they look like Jesus. And that will bring her so much joy in Jesus' name.
SPEAKER_01Amen.
SPEAKER_02Angela, the show's done. Thank you very much.
