🎙️ Creating a Worship Culture | Fatherhood Changed Everything | ft. Noah Harrison
What does it really mean to create a culture of worship? Is it about the songs we sing on Sunday, or is it about the lives we live every day?
In this episode of Everything Kingdom Podcast, host Lucky sits down with Noah Harrison—worship leader, artist, and new father to twins—for an honest conversation about how worship extends far beyond the platform.
Together, they unpack what it looks like to build a lifestyle centered on God's presence, lead with authenticity, and cultivate a worship culture that begins in the heart, curved moments with Jesus alone to transform homes, churches, and communities.

Did I make space for the Lord to show up and did I honor him with my worship? Yes. Great. Okay, it doesn't matter what I said, doesn't matter what I did.
SPEAKER_05Hi there. Welcome back to the Everything Kingdom podcast. It is me, Lucky, back in the studio with my very good friend Noah. It's the first time we get to have you in the studio. Let's go. And uh what I would love for you is to uh introduce yourself uh to our audience, let them get to know you, but uh as well, we're going to introduce the subject we're gonna talk about today, which is worship and uh the presence of God and you being a dad and creative ideas and all those things. And before all of those things, we are going to break bread. Uh, this is a culture that we do have here that on every episode we get to share the meal with our Lord, but also with our listeners and our viewers out there. So, King Jesus, we thank you and honor your body that you laid down for us. We take this on behalf of New York City, on behalf of our listeners out there, that your blood, lady, and your body, lady, be speaking the perfect, perfect covenant of the Lord, and may we be able to say that by your stripes we are healed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Lord, thank you so much for this cup.
SPEAKER_05Thank you for your blood that spills but is still speaking, and every flow of it actually is salvation unto us, unto the nations, and to our cities. God, we bless you and we bless our listeners.
SPEAKER_02And we say this that as for me and my city, we'll serve the Lord. This is awesome.
SPEAKER_05No, welcome to the studio. So glad you're here.
SPEAKER_00Me too. I'm stoked to be here.
SPEAKER_05Yeah? How have you been and how are you doing?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm doing good. I'm doing very good. Um, it's a it's a crazy week. Uh my wife Carling is in Montana right now with with the twins. And so I'm by myself for a few days, and I'm there's there's so much freedom, I don't know what to do. I'm stressed out with how quiet everything is, and I'm like, this is it's too it's too crazy. It's too or it's too not crazy that it feels crazy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So it's so amazing how you got used to having two. So for those that I don't know, uh Noah is uh a brand new dad. Is that how you say it? How do you say it? It's uh Yep. A twin dad. Twin dad.
SPEAKER_00Our our babies are like three a little over three months. Three months. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Boy and a girl. Boy and a girl. They are so cute. They're amazing. I was so stunned watching them in worship being quiet for an hour and a half of worship, and they're like, no one is screaming, no one is crying in a room like that. I was so impressed.
SPEAKER_00I was I was very impressed as well. Did you expect that? In a way, yes, because they as long as they're strapped onto your chest. We have these little strap chest things. As long as they're on there, they're knocked out. They're they're like, we're good. But as soon as you take them off, that's when the trouble starts.
SPEAKER_05I'm laughing because I've seen in New York City uh parents that put like kids on a leash, you know. Just make sure I don't lose a kid in New York City. You said straps, and I'm thinking like that's always an interesting thing.
SPEAKER_00I'm always like, I'm like, I get it. I don't know how I feel about it, but I do get it. I I understand.
SPEAKER_05Like it could be worse. So you're like, I'd rather see that. It's amazing. It's fascinating. I was like, yeah, I see what you're doing, but yeah, it's really funny. Yeah. I've seen like, at least I've seen it three times, and like every single time I stop, like, hmm. That's a very good idea. At the same time, I wonder what people are thinking when they watch that. So it's fascinating. But um, we love to talk about worship, and uh, I would love to lay some groundwork here for our listeners. When I'm reading the Bible, I'm reading through the lenses of heaven and earth, like the two realms that are similar, different, becoming one, or the above and the in-between. And reading through the book of Revelation and looking through like through this week, it's been uh Isaiah 60, rather, Isaiah 6, that is on been my heart. Like, you know, Isaiah sees the Lord and I saw the Lord, and everyone is singing holy. I'm thinking every single time people mention that they've been in heaven, most of what they are talking about is how God is adored and the affection towards God and the worship and how they are singing this forever song of the holiness and the beauty of the Lord. And I wanted to catch your mind from a worship leader's perspective, because I wanted to ask you to like even tell our listeners like what you do. Some people don't know you, that actually you are a worship leader. Yeah. I wanted to catch your mind on all those kind of things.
SPEAKER_00I will tell you the first time I heard that about that verse when I was a young lad, I was a little nervous because I was like, are we really gonna be worshiping nonstop with no breaks, no food breaks, no pea breaks? Um no, but uh but no, man, yeah. So okay, worship. Um I let's see. I started leading worship when I was yeah, I was a very young lad. I was probably 13 or 14. And um my parents had a a small group church kind of thing that that we were doing for a season. And so my dad was uh, you know, like unofficially the worship pastor. I mean, he wasn't the worship pastor, but he just would lead worship a lot. And it was around the time that like we were doing like Ren Collective. Did you ever listen to Ren Collective? No. Okay. Uh that and like uh we would do like enter the worship circle. But we would uh we would just literally circle around, have a cajon and an acoustic. Oh, and we would just sing some worship songs. So my dad, um, he he noticed that I was interested in playing acoustic. And so I started singing and leading around that time. And um, and then later on in my high school years, I started serving at a bigger church in my hometown in Michigan. And um, I really uh I was probably maybe 17 or so. I was serving, but I was also like really uh like my heart was really coming alive to follow Jesus and like to like kind of go all in. Um, because I grew up a Christian, but I think in that season I was like really my faith was becoming my own. So um, so yeah, I started probably when I was like 13 leading worship. Um, but probably more than leading, I was just playing songs by myself in in my house. And I would I remember like every Saturday morning I would hear my dad sitting in the living room playing worship songs. And so my childhood was that, and then I think towards the latter years of my high school, I started serving at a church, and um, and as I was like, you know, my heart was setting on was being set on fire for the Lord, I was I was starting to like also grow an interest of like the um the excellence side of it, of like sound and songwriting and um, you know, musicality and all those the all those elements as well as the spiritual side of it. So um uh when I was 18, maybe I was 18 or 19, I moved to, I think it was 19. I moved to Redding, California. There was a a couple that was helping uh lead at our youth group, and they were kind of taking me and my friend under under their wing, and they really encouraged us. They said, Hey, if you want to go deeper with the Lord and you want to go deeper in worship and music, you should move to Reading. Like there's a there's a really beautiful movement of God happening there. And so we did. Me and three other dudes, or four, I can't remember how many guys, there's a lot of guys. We all moved to Reading and uh did BSSM. Uh and so I led worship in BSSM all three years, and um just kind of thinking through my my worship journey. And uh after leading in BSSM, I I stayed in in Reading, got married, continued to serve as a worship leader um on Sundays, and then uh a couple years after that moved to New York City with my wife, Carling. And um I I moved here to help be a part of Bethel, New York, and to be the worship pastor and to build the worship team and the worship culture here uh at our church, and uh and that's what I'm still doing.
SPEAKER_05Man, what a journey. It's amazing. I uh when I first met you, I remember I was so drawn, both you and your wife. Yeah. I was working at Trader Joe's and I was in Reading, and you were in Reading. But also I cannot forget this. This is the best worship set that I've ever been a part of. We were in Reading, it was July 31st of 2022. And you and I remember I think it was Christine DiMarco, you were leading worship uh at the 10:30 in the morning. The service is the most packed one, it's like you know, it's the main service I would say in Reading. And we're expecting like this, we don't want this to end. And we saw, I think Tom Crandall came to close worship. And we found ourselves like going back into worship and we sang this song, uh uh The Holiness of the Lord about Isaiah 6, I saw the Lord. Yep. I don't know, maybe that's why it's been on my heart all day. And I saw we sang that song for over 35 minutes. One song, and there was no preaching, there was no collecting of tithe and offering, there was nothing. We just sang worship for two hours straight. Yeah I'd never been a part of anything that looked like that. I remember sobbing on the floor, worshiping. I didn't know what I stopped worshiping to just like you just shaking and vibrating and like don't know what you're doing, but just don't want something to end. It was amazing. So that was my introduction to you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Wow. Dude, actually, it's funny that you bring that set up because I do I remember I think that might have been maybe it was Christine's last set before she moved. I can't remember. But I remember that that day it was like it was actually very pivotal because um and maybe this kind of goes in line with everything we're talking about, but uh yeah, I remember we were we were doing the set and we got to it was I saw the Lord. I saw the Lord seated on his throne. Christine was singing that. And um and and yes, it it it just kept going and going and going and going. And uh and yeah, I remember like there they canceled the message, canceled all the formalities, and we just basically saying, You are holy, oh so holy, holy Lord of all, for like an hour. And um I actually remember I I I'm always learning, and I was definitely super learning at that time. I remember it was almost like there was so much space. We were doing we were doing this over and over again. And I remember um I actually at the end texted Christine when we got out, and I was like, hey, should I have done like should I have jumped in? Should I have done this? Should I and I was kind of overthinking just from a worship leader perspective. Yeah. Um, like kind of did I drop the ball. And she she texted me something really uh that stuck with me a lot. She was like, you know, I've spent way too much of my life overthinking worship sets, overthinking, did I do too much? Did I do too little? And she was basically just encouraging me to get out of the way in a worship set and get out of my head and just be like, essentially, like, did I make space for the Lord to show up and did I honor him with my worship? Yes, great. Okay, it doesn't matter what I sang, doesn't matter what I did.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00So I remember that set. It's just funny that you bring that up. I I learned a lot that day actually about creating space for the Lord. And um, you know, I I think Christine also talks about like setting the table in worship and then getting out of the way. And and I I think that as worship leaders, um sometimes the big challenge is like we want to show up and be big and lead the room and all those things are great, but sometimes we um forget to like get out of the way and let the Lord be honored in the room and be welcomed. And sometimes it's easy to make it about us and our cool voices and our runs and our our new song. And um So yeah, that day I I'd learned a lot about making space and getting out of the way. You know?
SPEAKER_05Those moments are so precious, so much so that I remember I think again there was a moment, I don't know who was leading, they ended the song and wanting to change to go to a different song. And actually the audience kept singing the same song that has been sung by worship leaders. That's it. And the worship no, not that set. There was a different set. And actually the worship leaders had to jump back on and follow the audience for the congregation as opposed to them leading. So I was so stunned.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I was like, you're joking. I was like, I I I I don't know how to put those into words. Because for me, I'm looking at again, I'm looking at myself, I'm like, did I do this? Did I? The I, I, I, I in me want to like, hey, I want to affect this, I want to have control of this, I want to make sure that you know I somehow direct traffic. But that what you just shared right there is so powerful that letting the Lord and setting a table for others and just for sure.
SPEAKER_00I've I've had moments like that for sure, where I'm like, okay, I want to do this, and then I'm like, well, no, actually, we're not doing that.
SPEAKER_05That was such a great training place for you. Yeah. The chaos, the noise, the fast pace, it's go go mode. How has that been like for you? Because Redding Reading as a city and New York City are total opposites.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I would say that I'm not a city person, um, in the sense of I didn't grow up in a city. I didn't it's not my normal. And so being here, I've really had to prioritize. I'm still learning how to do this, but prioritize, for lack of better words, the the reading thing you're talking about of quiet nature, relaxing, non-busyness. I've had to create and sometimes fight to create moments where I can have that for myself easily inside the city.
SPEAKER_05To have quiet moments. Oh. Yeah. Just making sure someone someone who's a New Yorker, they're they're only used to one side of being busy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. No, I I have to, Carling and I now it's I I don't know how we do it now with the babies because it's kind of just we're all in. But I've had to like intentionally in moments be like, okay, I'm going to the park for 20 minutes. I'm bringing my Bible, I'm doing this, I'm going to uh maybe bring my headphones and turn the noise canceling thing on. And I'm I'm going to create a space right now for me to rest and receive from the Lord and connect with God and and sometimes just sit in silence. Uh, because it's yeah, New York is is crazy. There's not there's not a whole lot of silence. So I think I've had to be okay with that and then go, okay, I'm going to create carve out moments where I can have that intentionally. Because it's not going to happen unintentionally. I have to like make it happen, you know?
SPEAKER_05With with you being a dad right now, I think it's even like it it can come at a better time than right now. Yeah. I mean, your babies are just amazing, but you still as a person need those kind of spaces. I wonder, like, what life looks like for you with diapers and uh, you know, and sleepless nights, and uh, you have to lead a four-hour set in the next day. Yeah. Take us through that. How do you manage that?
SPEAKER_00I will say leading worship sleep deprived is a different experience. It's a different experience. Um, but dude, I've had yeah, I've had to just kind of like adjust on certain things. Um, I've had to sometimes just be okay with uh doing a little bit of audio Bible sometimes um because I can't just sit there like there's there's a lot going on. A lot of diapers, yeah, a lot of a lot of poops and peas, lots of clean cleanups. Um and so I think I'm I am still figuring out what it looks like to create that space with like Bible time, time with the Lord, rest time. I'm still I'm still figuring out how do I do this sustainably, regularly, all this stuff. Um, but I can just tell it's it's already looking different. Um it's not all it's I obviously can't just go, hey, I'm doing if I'm at home with Carling, I'm and I'm available to help, then I'm helping, you know? Um and if I'm if I'm working, if I'm meeting with people doing that, then I'm obviously doing that. But I think the in between is I'm I'm figuring out the the rhythm of my life of how I can continue to steward the all that stuff. So yeah.
SPEAKER_05Is it okay if I sit here at parenting for a minute uh with you? Um what is um what is the one thing that you feel like God has been teaching you in this period of time, being a brand new dad?
SPEAKER_00Well, I have a song coming out or a song that just came out called My Honor to Need You. Um Carling and I wrote it together. It's one of my favorite songs on our project that's coming out. Um but I think the the uh the idea of that song is what I feel like I'm learning. And that's a a lot of my life I've felt like I want to be independent and prove to God and prove to people that I can I can do this thing. I don't need help. I can, you know what I mean? Like I'm strong. And I think that the season of having the babies, I have felt more stretched than I ever have and pushed way beyond what I feel like I can do on my own financially, with time, with work, with everything. I feel very pushed to my max. And so I think what I've what I've been learning through having little babies that need me is that God is really happy for me to be at my breaking point where I I I have nothing else to give and I need him. And I think that that feels vulnerable to be at that point. But I I'm learning that God is actually really stoked whenever I can just go, hey, I don't have a whole lot of strength. I need I need you and I need your help. And so yeah, I I think even having these babies, I sit with them and they can't do anything for me. Um, in fact, I have to do everything for them or else they'll literally die. But if we don't feed them, if we don't take care of them, protect them, all this stuff. And but I but I sit with them and I I love them so much. My heart is like explodes for them. Wow. And there's no part of me that's like, Jack, you gotta pay rent, buddy. Yeah. There's no part of me that's like, Jack, you gotta clean the house. I'm like, obviously, I know that you can't pay rent and clean the house. Yeah. Um, and I love just taking care of taking care of them. So I think in that way I see myself as a father with these babies. I'm like, oh, okay, I wonder if this is kind of how the Lord sees me as a little little infant that can't really do that much. But honestly, I just love having them and I love that they're my babies. And so I think that part of my life uh in this season, I I feel like I'm really I'm learning how to be okay with being the the infant to the Lord, you know, as I'm as I'm taking care of infants. Wow. Um so I would say that's that feels like yeah accepting my limitations and not being there's a line in that song Carling totally wrote the lyrics. It's my limitations you do not despise. In my weakness your strength shines. And being okay with that, my my limitations are are not a bad thing. And if I invite the Lord into it, it can be a really beautiful thing. His his uh his strength can be made perfect in my weakness.
SPEAKER_05I was listening to that song in the morning in my kitchen today. It's a beautiful song. I must tell you it is for anyone who's been in a spot where you're like, I've run of I've run out of options. Or the most wisest thing to do right now is trusting God's strength and God's provision and God's resources than my own.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's gonna it's gonna speak to you more than anything. It was it's just a beautiful song. I love it very much. Thank you. I I'd seen clips and clips because you're releasing on the album you're releasing like a song or two here and there. I think so far only seen three.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But we're gonna have like I think I want to talk to you about that later. I I'm just uh I'm just blown away on how see New York City is no like any other city that I know in the world. And being a parent alone in New York City is enough. Actually you being here by yourself alone in New York City is a full-time job. Just you alone without having kids at all. And then you have kids and then you have to lead a team or teams of people and then you have a family to feed and all of that. You talked about prioritizing your like time with the Lord. Are there anything that is on your heart like you like to recommend to someone who's in the state or in a place of being busy because of how life is in the city they should prioritize other than their time spent in the quiet.
SPEAKER_00I think that like there you have more capacity than you think you do is one thing I'm I'm learning, I think. And for example, I think there's certain things that you may um you might not even realize it but you actually have space to whether that's reading the Bible or praying or whatever it is. For me I was realizing there's a lot of times I'm on the train and I'm I have my headphones on. I'm listening to music, listening to whatever and I've been realizing okay like if I have a 30 minute train ride, that's 30 minutes I can be sitting there, I can actually be connecting with the Lord, I can be, I can bring my Bible, I can um you know listen to the I can whatever. So I think that just looking at your day and being like, yeah, maybe I'm working all day maybe I have responsibilities after work, before work. But um the little like transitional moments throughout my day, where can I implement that? And then also like where where in my day can I like be inviting the Lord in and praying and talking with the Lord even while I'm doing things, you know, while I'm changing my diapers, while I'm uh you know working on something for church or for the worship team or um so I think I think that like if you really look at your day, there's there's more opportunity than you might think to to have that.
SPEAKER_05I think we get I I personally love making excuses. That question was mostly for me not for anyone else listen it was just me asking because I know I've made excuses of how busy life is of how busy the city is and then as you're talking you remind me I've read the book Practicing the Presence of God. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think it's by brother Lawrence Brother Lawrence I haven't read it but uh my wife talks about it.
SPEAKER_05Oh my gosh this guy would make his quest was actually his request and his plan was to be aware of the presence of God 247. Yes whether he's asleep whether he's awake that when he goes into a prayer room and his presence of the Lord his awareness of the presence of law of the Lord will now change just because he's doing dishes so he will have the same awareness of the presence of God as he's doing dishes or as he's praying in an intense moment. I'm like oh my gosh he never claimed to have arrived but at least that was his goal that I'll be aware of the presence of God 247. It's pretty epic. It is stunning and when you're talking about that when you when you're speaking that's what was in my heart like hmm I wonder if I'm on a subway I can still be aware of God yet being present. When I'm talking to Noah I can still be present and at the same time be so in tune with what God is saying and still. Yeah. But I would have to switch gears here and uh talk to you about leading worship in a city like New York City and what my my intention was um I our our goal here and our idea is actually to uh talk about the culture of heaven and how it has an influence on the culture that we live in today. It's not that there are no worship churches or ministries in New York City but part of your primary reason to come here is to sit and help develop or cultivate a worship culture.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Talk to us about that.
SPEAKER_00You know I had the pleasure of getting to be in Reading for it was about six years and got to sit in a a pre-built worship culture that is I mean it's one of the most beautiful places to lead worship and to be in worship ever. It's it's beautiful. So I got to be there and it's people call it a greenhouse, you know, because it's like it's it's awesome.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um you got to people would joke about how in BSSM like you could just like say the word fire in a worship set and then the room would be like and um and then move and moving into a city where um you can't just say the word fire in a worship set and people cheer. Like maybe you could maybe you could yeah potentially but um dude it's been really good. I've been I think I've been learning a lot and I've I would say um in some ways um I have been really surprised by how people do engage in worship. Like even last Sunday we had a Heidi Baker with us for that that big service and um I was talking to Carling after about like it was kind of awes like it was shocking how how many people were engaged the whole set. Yeah. People were um like I mean they were singing really loud. Um so in some ways I've been surprised honestly like how hungry people are in worship. Um I think um I think one thing that I could say that I feel like I'm learning as we're doing this and leading worship in the city is that it honestly just takes time. It really takes time to build something because um because trust takes time to build with people you know and so I think as our as our church um continues to change and grow and mold in different ways. Yeah and and even as I connect with other even outside of our church other ministries and other people that that lead worship here, I think I've just learned like it's not a flash in the pan. It's not like you show up and you know it's it it takes time to build relationship with people. And so um even in a city that's really busy I I actually feel really hopeful and excited about the culture of worship that we're building and and other churches as well in the city. But I do think that it's I think coming from an environment like Reading, it can be easy to like leave and then go, okay, like let's see the same thing happen here. And also it's like the expression of worship in a different region is going to just be different. Wow and that's okay. Like it's a different very different diverse group of people. And um and also as we're building trust with people in the city it's also like what what is our sound? Like what is that what does our expression look like?
SPEAKER_05Wow.
SPEAKER_00And I think that we're still like figuring that out.
SPEAKER_05We're still the identity part of like what we bring.
SPEAKER_00Yeah it's I mean and I actually love like the on our worship team there's so many different church backgrounds and ethnic backgrounds that people are they're coming into with and I'm yeah I I love I love it. I love getting to see like okay what is that you know somebody who maybe grew up in a Spanish Pentecostal church right like versus somebody who grew up in you know fill in the blank. So I'm yeah it's I guess I'm kind of dancing around a little bit but um I think long story short I feel like it it takes time to build trust and that's that feels like that's what we're doing.
SPEAKER_05I I had a question about like why worship why do you think is very important for us?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm to me to me it feels like one of the main reasons that we're here like to to worship God to honor him like the main reasons we're alive I mean and so I think that um as when we gather as a church like obviously the having a teaching is really important to like to grow in our understanding of scripture and knowledge of God and revelation. But I think in worship there is um number one we're honoring the Lord and so we're giving him honor and glory in our worship. And then there's also like this there there's so much in worship that I think happens that is under the surface that we don't see. Wow. You know like there's so much where it's like you you're worshiping the Lord and you may not realize it but there's like certain things that are lifting from your life you know maybe like burdens or anxiety depression uh all these different things so I I don't know I mean that's a that's a huge question. No I would need to ponder but I I just think that like worship is so much more than just uh singing songs and making music. Like it's it's uh it it's also like in worship we join like in the corporate setting we join together and we sing together as one voice which is also a super powerful thing you know I asked that question with my friend in mind uh he was surprised that we have worship sets that go on for like an hour.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah he's like you would worship for that long they felt like that was too long to worship for an hour and I'm like oh God. Yeah sometimes my voice at the end of that is like so that I'm thinking oh man I don't know how to tell you man uh I I just love worshiping and I'm like you come you hang around us so long enough you're gonna realize that that's who we are you know we don't know how to do any other we don't know how to do life without worship you know so I was like me asking no maybe he has a better it will help me here to answer my friend's question without me having to answer them. But yeah that's that's amazing Noah thank you and I want to uh talk about the excellence side of worship where you get to uh practice the chords and like you know lear the uh the rhythm and like uh the beats of the song and everything uh that's the creative side of you that I want to tap into yeah uh you've just released an album uh at least you released it uh not fully like fully released but some songs singles what songs are on the album so far that you have so far we've released Christ That We Lift Higher um He Wasted Nothing and then the last one was My Honor to Need You What's the name of the album Do Not Go Gentle Why that name um it is uh it's actually from a poem um which I was reminded by in the movie Interstellar uh they read that poem throughout the movie um the yeah the name Do Not Go Gentle I think it encapsulates the idea of I think that the project is is meant to be an encouragement to the the believer who's walking through hardship and the the phrase do not go gentle the poem it was originally about um uh someone passing away and basically just encouraging them to not just give in to death but to fight to the very end uh which is a little dark um but the the project yeah I think it encapsulates this idea of like hey just because you um are serving the Lord doesn't mean that you're not gonna have hardship and really tough things that happen in life and so the project is just meant to really encourage people to go, hey, we're not gonna try to be naive to like the hard things of life, but we're gonna like face them full on with the Lord and not try to just like duck away from heaviness or all these different things but we're actually going to, you know, Psalms 23 walk through the valley of the shadow of death um you know I will fear no evil.
SPEAKER_00And so a lot of the songs are are kind of centered around that psalm actually and and really just encouraging people to um instead of just like giving in to fear um to actually like face things head on and um and also to not be stuck in um you know that psalm says I walk through the valley of shadow of death so not stay there but actually to walk through it and out of it. And so yeah it's it's meant to be the project is there's some worship songs in it. Yeah. But it's also there's a few songs that are more like process songs like walking through stuff.
SPEAKER_05How many songs is he gonna have eight songs. Eight song in time what has been the biggest challenge to um not just in the project yeah but like could be in the whole experience of moving to New York City could be different like because I feel like that is connecting to something and uh the outside or the outcome of like or the process of all the challenge and everything it looks like God is producing something through that or at least in some measure. Yeah. I just want to hear your heart like as have you had anything challenging that like speaks or you just like as a creative mind just yeah definitely yeah I mean I think that um you know as as I I mean I'm I'm still very young.
SPEAKER_00I'm 28 but you know I've been leading worship since I was a a kid and I do think like as the years have gone on I think I just used to do stuff just because it was like oh awesome like I love Jesus let's worship and I as I've gone on I I think that I've I had definitely have experienced more hardship in my life within my personal life and my family um as I've grown I've experienced a lot of like pain and and really suffering. And so I think for me the thing I've been like that has been my challenge is am I going to still come back to the same place with the Lord and give my life as an offering or am I going to sit in my you know my bitterness my sadness whatever and and stay there. And so not that I didn't yeah yeah so as a kid I think it was easy to show up on Sunday and you know like let's get hallelujah da da da and and now it's it it it's just different as as I get older I'm like okay there are more things I actu it actually costs me something to show up on Sunday and and sing these songs because internally I'm I am I'm I am aware of certain things yeah that are hard and I'm also going that's okay I'm gonna I'm gonna worship the Lord through it you know that's amazing bro really not so many people ever you're not that vulnerable but too they're not honest with themselves right there like actually it's okay not to be okay.
SPEAKER_05And in the midst of all that you can still bring that to the Lord it's some it's wonderful. And that as well I think helps me understand where your mind is at before you lead worship or when you're leading worship. Because you've led thousands and like you know rooms that are full of like so many people millions. You know and uh I'm thinking about how you stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit and the presence of God in midst of all the noise and everything you're like how how is that that's a good question.
SPEAKER_00I think it's uh for me I I try to have a keep a rhythm of prayer with the worship team of like before we start we pray together we read scripture and um yeah I I try to make sure that before even with like exciting or chaos stuff that we're taking some time to slow down. Even if we pray as a broad team um still cutting out some moments for us to like have a little bit of like we're gonna slow down and connect with the Lord. Um yeah like carving out moments like that for for myself personally and then for our worship team what would what would you tell your young self as a worship leader? I would I would tell my younger self to keep my eyes on what's in front of me. I think as a young worship leader it's really easy to look around and see what other people are doing and see their big moments and their successes or whatever and feel like oh maybe I'm not getting that same thing or I'm not seeing that and feel like a failure because I'm doing that. And so I think I would as I'm growing becoming a father I think I'm learning that my job right now is to do the thing that's right in front of me and the the thing that the Lord has trusted me with that's that's what I'm supposed to do. And so yeah I would encourage I would encourage my younger self to stay the course keep your eye on what the Lord has right in front of you. Don't worry about 20 feet away 30 feet away like what's right in front of you right now. Be faithful to that.
SPEAKER_05So so powerful wow wow no what an honor to have you here those are just big like revs you're dropping right in the case questions I was not that's amazing you you tackle them like you know like a piece of cake so I'm sure uh our listeners are going to love these and they're going to like uh dive deep with this because those are like lifelong messages and I'm so thankful that we get to have you in here uh uh take us through the process and everything. SPEAKER_00And Lord I pray that anybody that is maybe feeling overwhelmed by comparing themselves or trying to figure out if they're doing the right thing or they're living in the right place, I pray that you would speak to them, Lord, and that you would just um yeah just show them like what's what's what is the thing that you're trusting them with and what is what's the thing that you have for them right now. Not five years from now not two years from now but like what's the thing that you are calling them to be and to do right now and um yeah in Jesus name thank you so much amen thanks so much for watching the um the episode this is the Everything to Know podcast and until then cheers
