There is so much powerful energy today, but it's subtle and it's internal and it's in that womb of our personality, that protected space where we can grow. It's new moon and cancer day, and it's conjunct the retrograde Mercury and Cancer, which means that they're right next to each other, and there is a lot of energy that we could harness for our growth. I have noticed with lots of different people that new beginnings often do mean leaving something behind in the past, that new beginnings have excitement, but they customarily have some kind of grief that's associated with them as well. But this new moon in Cancer feels like this next chapter is beginning by returning us to something important, something that we forgot, something that we outgrew before we fully understood what its value was. That's the invitation of this new moon in Cancer. Look, the moon rules cancer, and the moon is therefore very at home in cancer. Emotional receptivity, instinctive, protective, intuitive, domestic, nurturing, maternal. There's a lot of words, right, that go between the moon and cancer because they're both functioning on the same plane. When we have a new moon, that means that the sun and the moon have come together and that conscious intention, conscious intention, the sun, and inner emotional needs are occupying the same space. In cancer, it's not loud or necessarily very ambitious as a beginning. And we talk about new beginnings because new moons are the new beginning of the next 28-day cycle. Cancer is not simply about becoming emotional or retreating into the past, it's about understanding what gives us our origin, home, family, ancestry, safety, care, all of the inner structures that allow us to grow. Enter Mercury retrograde, conjunct the new moon. This is the very unusual part. It's very interesting to me. Mercury in retrograde in Cancer is our thoughts going backwards while the lunar cycle is beginning, creating somewhat of a paradox between the two that the future may be asking us to retrieve something from the past. The Mercury retrograde in Cancer, which we talked about last week, is like an old memory that we're now understanding differently, a conversation that we may have had that needs to be reconsidered, a family story or an inherited belief that we're reviewing. I think a lot of people right now are having images of their childhood or if not even their childhood, just an earlier time in their life where they're getting images that are recreating and they're understanding how the present is being reinforced by what they learned at those times. You know, there can be emotional truths that we knew before we even learned how to explain them away. There are parts of ourselves that one one time at one time felt very natural and we gradually abandoned them for one reason or another. So Mercury and Cancer is not logical. Memories come through feelings and dreams and familiar songs or activities in particular. I had one the other day, just you know, putting water sealant on a small wood area outside the house, you know, and I had a whole memory of doing that as a child. And then, of course, it wasn't specifically about that activity, it cascaded into all the feelings that surrounded that and the relationships that made that possible and that created that. So that capacity to be able to review what we believe and who we are and what sustains us through the revisiting, through an emotional encounter, sudden awarenesses of what may be missing in our lives. And because this retrograde Mercury has conjunct the new moon, the reflection itself becomes the seed of the new beginning. Right? What we remember now may be the motivation, the initiative for what comes next. The new moon being invisible, right, we can't yet see what is the beginning. And so it's less about declaring a goal that we have and more about creating an inner environment, a sacred inner environment where something can grow. Um, what part of us needs emotional um care and emotional safety? What does home mean to me now? What memories am I coming up with that I'm finally ready to understand in a different way? Is there something that I need to protect, not from fear, but because it's becoming more of a reality, a conscious reality. So, you know, we do imagine that growth means moving further away from who we were, but sometimes new beginnings happen differently. Perhaps we have to go to an old feeling to create greater wisdom. You know, we remember what truly nourished us. We listen again to something within us that had been speaking quietly for a really long time, and maybe we haven't been listening. And then we find that the new moon in Cancer that the path forward just begins by remembering that we've always been home. I'm Craig Martin, and this is Sage of Stars podcast, and I'll talk to you real soon. Happy new moon.
