Sage of Stars
Welcome to Sage of Stars, an astrology podcast about self-understanding, personal growth, and learning how to work consciously with life's experiences.
Astrology is more than prediction. It is a language of meaning, a tool for self-discovery, and a framework for understanding the patterns that shape our lives. Each episode explores astrology not as something that happens to us, but as something that can help us better understand ourselves and make more intentional choices.
Whether you're new to astrology or have studied it for years, you'll find practical insights designed to help you recognize recurring themes, navigate challenges, and make the most of your opportunities for growth. Through discussions of natal charts, planetary cycles, houses, signs, and current astrological influences, we'll explore how astrology can become a powerful tool for self-awareness and transformation.
If you're looking to learn astrology, deepen your understanding of your birth chart, or discover how astrology can support real personal development, this podcast is for you. It is also a companion for students seeking astrology education and astrology classes that emphasize understanding, application, and meaningful change.
Because astrology isn't just about knowing what's coming next.
It's about understanding who you are, why you do what you do, and what you choose to do with that knowledge.

July 23 - Mercury goes Direct - A Home Within
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Building on the retrograde and moving forward is the point of the Mercury retrograde cycle. But sometimes we miss that because we focus on the difficulties of the retrograde period instead of its gift. We move forward by integrating the past so that new movement is aligned and examined with purpose and intent.

Mercury is going direct today and it stays direct until late October. One of the things that we want to remember is that it hasn't changed sign. It is still in the sign of cancer. It's finally moving direct, but most people breathe a sigh of relief, right? Communication just got easier. My plans can start moving again. Life can be a little less tangled up. I think those things can be true, but there's something more important right now, which is that it isn't going into a new sign. It is still in cancer. And the lesson hasn't changed. Only our ability to move forward with it. Cancer asked us to examine uh emotional foundation, emotional conditioning, um, family memories. It said, how faith, how how safe do I really feel? Uh, where do I belong? What memories am I still carrying? I think what emotional habits, habitual emotional habit patterns shape my life? Are there any of them that are good? Are there any of them that need to be examined? During the retrograde period, Mercury always invites us to revisit those type of questions, but this cycle, it was in a Cancerian way. It had to do with emotional memories and things from the past and the way in which we are nurturing ourselves. Not really to judge them, but to understand them better, to understand where they came from, how they originated, and how they may still be affecting us today. So retrogrades aren't about changing that. They're not about changing the past, they're about changing our relationship to the past. Maybe we remembered someone or we remembered something. Maybe family uh showed up. Um perhaps we realized that we were protecting ourselves in a way that didn't really serve us any longer. And now Mercury goes forward today, which is very exciting. We all like that, we all like that. We all like the forward movement of Mercury, not because the past disappears, but because we've learned something from it, and it's that understanding, that review that allows us to move forward. So cancer doesn't ask us to forget where we've been, it doesn't say, like, okay, um, we're reviewing so that we can like see it and then dismiss it or hide from it. It says that it's time to build home inside of ourselves that's stronger. That I really like a lot. How does the idea of sacred home evolve inside of us, inside of our inner world? So the direct movement is a moment when we can put those realizations that we had during the retrograde into practice, create a different conversation, create a different conditioning, build different boundaries or different ways for caring for ourselves. As it moves forward, I think the question is not, you know, what went wrong during the retrograde or thank God it's over. It's so limited, really, in viewing it that way. There's a purpose for every movement of the planets, including the Mercury retrogrades, which happened three to four times a year. There's a real reason for that. And the question should be: what did I finally understand that I couldn't have understood if I hadn't reviewed or gone through whatever struggle I went through during the retrograde? Because that's the real gift of it. It's not about delaying or confusion or screwing up your communications or having your emails not go through, but it's about clarity that we gain by reflecting. And so now that it's direct, it's time to live what we've learned. I'm Craig Martin. This is Sage of Stars. I'll be speaking with you real soon.
