Hello and welcome to Dad Please, the podcast where dad and daughter talk about the things we love and the things we definitely don't always agree on. From concerts and city adventures to books, movies, and our favorite foods, each episode is full of stories, laughter, and a little generational debate.

SPEAKER_02

I'm Hamlin, the dad, and I'm Alex, the daughter. Together we're exploring our favorite places, sharing what we're reading and watching, trying new food, and of course, telling more dad jokes than anyone actually asked for. So grab a snack, get comfortable, and join the conversation.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to Dad Please. Welcome to Dad Please. It's me, Alex.

SPEAKER_02

And it's me, Dan.

SPEAKER_00

And today we are going to deep dive into all things Disney. Because of course we went to go see the one and only Demi Lovato. Going to see Demi Lovato brought up some memories of, I don't know if you guys remember, but the Disney OG movies. So Disney original movies. I was trying to find out what were the top Disney movies, the original ones. So after looking through many websites and combing the web, now this is not the specific order, but these are amongst the top 10. And so from different websites, accumulation is a movie called The Luck of the Irish. High school musical. Yeah, Cheetah Girls, Halloween Town, Xenan. Zenin. Yeah, the girls 21st century, girl of the 21st century, Smart House, The Color of Friendship, Camp Rock, Rink, and then Tide for Being in the Top 10 is Wizards of Waverly Place and slash the Proud Family movie. So I remember always being excited to see which Disney original movie was gonna come out. And there's so many. Those are just ranked amongst the top 10. But I mean, there's other ones like Wendy Wu, The Warrior Princess, Lemonade Mao.

SPEAKER_04

Live Lemonade Mao. Love Lemonade Mao.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Cadet Kelly, Twitches, get a clue. And then of course, as time went on, you have the newer ones like Descendant. Um, I know they have that zombie movie. So they do still produce Disney Channel original movies. I don't think it's as big. I think it's still big. I mean, I just remember seeing all the Disney commercials of things coming out, like, oh, the Cheetah Girls is coming out this Friday and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_04

The Cheetah Girls cost me a lot of money.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Alex loved the Cheetah Girls. That was our first real concert. I think we've talked about that before. That opened her lab for music. Um back when in eight, from I think it was from 86 to 88, they had the Sunday night movies. They had good movies like Polly with Keisha Knight Poulium and Claire Huxtable on there, and they used to have those shows. Every Sunday night it was like an event for the family. And um, it was for like two years. It seemed like it was longer, but it was from 86 to 88. And um, but they would have had a lot of good movies. Polly, which is my sister Keisha's favorite Disney movie of all time. Um she was on there. So really, really good movies. They've had they have a history of it. They've been doing this for a while, and like Alex said, they'd advertise for those shows, those movies, and you'd be ex the kids will be excited for them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I just remember times like that, and I'm sure they still do it now. I don't watch the newer Disney too much, but I'm sure they still do like Disney original movies, and you know, they used to do the little Disney sign where they would fill it out with the wand and everything with the celebrities. So I thought that it would be pretty cool for dad and I to rank some of our movies. I said top five, we can do a top five ranking. Okay, and like I said, what brought this on was seeing Demi Lovato. So I just, you know, she was in Camp Rock, she was a really big part of Disney before she This is me.

SPEAKER_02

This is real, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, before she became like into her adult era. So out of the top ten movies, and I will say we can pick one that is not in the top 10 on the list that we have. So anyone that you could think of that's not on the top 10 from the top 10. So I guess my top five, or I'm gonna pick four from this list. For five, I would say The Luck of the Irish. I did really like that movie. I thought it was such a unique movie. It's essentially a kid who plays basketball and he finds out he's like part leprechaun. So do check that one out. That's a good one. Four, I'm gonna go with I really like I I have to put Camp Rock on there since I did see Demi Lovato. So I will say four Camp Rock. Three, I am gonna go with High School Musical.

SPEAKER_03

Can't believe I thought I'm on your list.

SPEAKER_00

I know. Um, two, I am gonna pick a movie that's not on the list. So for my number two, I really did like Wendy Woo, The Warrior Princess with Brenda Song. I thought that that was such a great underrated movie. So that will be my two. And of course, number one will be Cheetah Girls. Of course. So that is my list, and now it's on to dad what he would pick.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, my number five on the list would be um the Proud Family movie. Love that movie. That was really good. Four, I would put Camp Rock, I think. I would put Camp Rock at number four. Number three would be The Cheetah Girls, and number two would be Lemonade Mouth.

SPEAKER_00

He really loves Lemonade Mouth.

SPEAKER_04

My number one flip-lifing with that in my head is Halloween Town. That's one of my favorite Disney movies ever. I would watch that every Halloween. That's a really, really good movie. All of the Halloween Town movies are so good.

SPEAKER_00

And that's another thing, too. Disney used to do kind of like seasonal things like Halloween Town, and then they would have the Christmas movies. That would be really cool.

SPEAKER_04

Big do we watch Halloween Town and we watch Switches as well. Like we just have a whole list of we watch every Halloween.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so let us know what your favorite OG Disney movies are. And we saw Demi Lovato, which is a highlight of our week, and we will get into that. But what we've been doing all week and pretty much half the year is following my little cousin and her track season. So we both ran track, dad and I, and I have been wanting someone in the family to run track. So my little cousin is actually running track this year, this season. And so we have been really taking that's been taking up a lot of our time.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, between um soccer season and track season, it's been it's been a team effort. Mama has gone um to a lot of track meets and she wore good shoes, so no dust. Yes. And my sister even came down one to one track meet from Austin. Alex has been going to a lot, and my sister Destiny is kind of trying to figure out what this track life mom is about. She's like, this is a lot. Because Destiny was a basketball player, so she doesn't understand the long days and being out all day and everything.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, and it's also been a very rainy track season. So we've been running into a lot of rain and lightning. Let me tell you, lightning in us, we have beef with lightning, okay? Because for one of the track meets that we went to, it was apparently one, it was so long.

SPEAKER_04

It was, yeah, it was too long.

SPEAKER_00

And we were literally waiting in the car for like six hours because it was so hot.

SPEAKER_03

So hot.

SPEAKER_00

And right when um my little cousin was just about to run. She was in the third heat. Third heat, and she was on the track. On the track. They said, Oh, there's a lot of things. They ran a third heat in it. Yeah, they read the first thing like, oh, there's lightning. And so with a track meet for non-track people, if there's lightning in the area within about, I think, 15 to 20 feet, they have to cancel the race.

SPEAKER_04

Well, that do you have they have to wait 30 minutes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they have to wait 30 minutes and then every time lightning strikes, they have to wait a minute.

SPEAKER_04

The timer starts over. So that's like with any outdoor sports if that's inside the football track, but you know, track is what we're on right now because that's what we're doing.

SPEAKER_00

So they have to stop and wait, and then they have to see if the weather's gonna change. So essentially they ended up just canceling the meet.

SPEAKER_03

Because it was so late in the day.

SPEAKER_00

Because it was so late in the day and they still had so many events to go through. So they canceled the meet, and it didn't even really rain.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_00

And I will say the last meet that we went to, they canceled, it started snowing.

SPEAKER_04

We saw the lightning. We didn't see the lightning in the other meet. And we're like, did they just do the lightning so they can say they canceled it so they went so they can be done with it? Because they were way behind.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so it was it's been an adventure with that track season, and we are trying still trying to figure out what which event she's good in. When I ran, I just ran high school track. My mom and dad ran in college. Um, in high school, I was a quarter mile runner, so I ran the 400 and the four by four, and then I also ran um the relays, like the four by two. So I really want her to run the 400, but we're trying to figure out what she's good in. And so putting her in a lot of different events, I would say.

SPEAKER_04

Um from the 800 town to the 100.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I did run the 800 as well because I did cross country, but so far I would say she's really good at the 800 and 400 races. I don't, I kind of think she's like me in a sense. I was never good at the 100. I could never take off with enough speed. And so I really think that she is kind of like that in that sense. Yeah. My mom was a hurdler. I did try hurdling once, fell, never did that again. But my mom did run the hurdles and then the relays, and then dad ran the one, two, sprint relay, and the mile relay, and sometime the open quarter.

SPEAKER_04

I did not like the quarter.

SPEAKER_00

So the mile relay is the four by four. So everybody runs the 400, four people, and they pass the baton. And then the sprint relay is the 100, and four people run a 100 and pass the baton.

SPEAKER_04

So a lot of mistakes can happen in a four by one. You shouldn't drop the baton in a four by four. You're literally turning around taking it. The four by one is more of a blind handout. You you have to trust that the person's gonna put the baton in your hand, and that's what they've been working on because Micah's gonna run the four by one um this week coming up. So they've been practicing it.

SPEAKER_00

But they keep canceling, so she hasn't been able to run the event yet. But we're excited. I I told dad, like, I feel more nervous for her than I ever felt when I ran, and I think it was the same way with my parents. They always said they felt more nervous for me, and I just always feel so nervous for her. Like I wanted to do so great. And I mean, I think it's been fun for us just because we really enjoy Trot. Um, we're big track fans, we watch it every year. We really want to go to Oregon to go see a track meet there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And we really want to go see track in the Olympics one day.

SPEAKER_04

Uh, what I love about track is when you run in college, especially, I mean high school as well, depending on what track meet you go to, you see a lot of the people that you look up to. So I met Liord Burrell, who was an amazing, amazing guy. He was very, very kind, very nice, um, very complimentary to me because I was working out at uh U of H one day when he was the head coach and just a very, very nice man. Um, and but you meet some people, he was like, These people are even better than what you think. Then you meet some, you just like very disappointing in who these people are.

SPEAKER_00

So Yeah, so it's really fun. And you know, her um uncle also, her other uncle also runs track. He's currently running in college right now, so she has a lot of I guess inspiration to see. So that's I think why she wanted to do track or run track because there's just so many people who have done it before, and she is so athletic. She is she has a gift, the most athletic, probably, in the family so far. She's so good. She um also plays basketball.

SPEAKER_04

She loves basketball. That's her first love.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, she loves basketball. She also has done soccer, she's done flag football. So she's just athletic overall, and so it's really exciting and it's really cool to see her on this track journey.

SPEAKER_04

I think it's really cool that she gets to see William, um her other uncle run track because my sister, my brother don't even remember me running track because they're so much younger than me. My sister right after me, Keisha does, but Destiny and Ricky don't remember me running track because they were so young when I ran. So I think it's pretty cool that she can see her uncle run and see him doing the things that he's doing. And he's, you know, he's a freshman at U of H and he's doing really, really well um this year. Like it's a learning experience. People don't understand that. You can be really, really great, but you come in, it's a different experience coming into college. And I think that um William has handled that very, very well, and he's doing really, really well. And I think, you know, sky's the limit, he's just gonna get better with this year of experience. It's just gonna be even better next year.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and he was really good in high school, and I think that will show in college, and he's a very hard worker, so we know that he will do really well throughout his college years, and that is very exciting to see. We still need to go see him um in a track meet. We just watch on YouTube.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, we watch him on TV, but we'll let it see him up.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, all the time, but we haven't gone to A Track Meet in person, but we will definitely be trying to make it out there. And you know, if you want to see more of our little cousin's journey, her mom does have an Instagram page for her that follows her journey in her sports life. So go follow her. I will make sure I drop the Instagram and give it to you guys. So just go follow her and give her support on her athletic journey.

SPEAKER_04

And I mean, there's a lot of good track clubs out there. There's the Wings track club, um, there's also the Paralyn track club, which my friends, one of my good friends from high school, actually is one of the one of the big coach head coaches over there.

SPEAKER_00

They have a lot of good team like what people are Kane H Town, there's A-B track teams, so yeah, it's a lot of good track teams.

SPEAKER_04

You find people and teams like you know, they'll get them better. Like I try to tell people, your kid is not gonna be, everybody's not you same boat, and you have to be okay with that. The culture says something that Mike has tracked me, which is true. She said, you know, when you get the sprinters, the sprinters are just gifted. God just touched them. He said, When you get sprinters, you're just thankful that you got them. You can make people faster, but when you get people like that that are special and you can work with them and just help them to get, you know, faster is one thing. But you know, sprinters are born. I agree with that statement that, you know, and and it it helps when you have that.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, so it's been really exciting to follow her along. So we'll see if she wants to continue this journey, but if not, I got two more kids to work on.

SPEAKER_04

Baby Alex said, Baby Alex is the one who's named after Alex. That's what Alex says. She's named after Alexa.

SPEAKER_00

She said he wants to run track.

SPEAKER_04

He said he wants to run track more than anything. If we knew this was what Michael was really gonna do, we had like we would make a lot more investments because you need to have tents, you need to have fans, you need to because it's hot. It's a it's it's a long, it's a long day. It's fun. When you're running, you don't realize how long of a day it is.

SPEAKER_00

But when you're the parent or the you're watching and waiting, you're like, oh my god.

SPEAKER_04

When you're younger, you just hang out with your friends and it's fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I do have two more kids. Um, and the oldest are little dancers, so she's just gonna stick to dancing. And so I I have given up with her, but she'll be a dancer and she's really, really good. She's so good. I think her mom actually has some videos of them dancing. She's such an amazing dancer, very expressive, and it's you you'll tear up and get goosies when you see her dance for sure. But yeah, so we'll see. But it's been an exciting, eventful season, I will say. But we did go see Demi Lovato on Memorial Day. So it was very nice.

SPEAKER_03

Made the traffic very nice.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, very nice traffic. So, of course, because we saw Demi, we do have our vinyl records spotlight, and that is her Tell Me You Love Me album. Now, Demi Lovato has a lot of albums, she's been out for a very long time. She's been out, you know, since Disney. I mean, her Camp Rock days, her Sunny with a chant. So she does have a lot of albums, but this is one of the albums that I have. And so one of Dad, which I guess I'm already gonna tell you his favorite song. But I guess okay, first let me backtrack and tell you some of the albums, some of the songs on the album. Some of the songs are sorry, not sorry, tell me you love me, daddy Issues, lonely, featuring little Wayne, Cry Baby, Games, Only Forever, You Don't Do It For Me Anymore, Sexy Dirty Love. So, a little quick fact about this album, Lemmy Lovato's Sorry Not Sorry song was actually the first single in the album, and she did get a lot of pushback from that song, and she has stated that that's one of her favorite songs, so she really sang. Yeah, she's really fought for it to be on the album.

SPEAKER_04

It's so good. That's such a good song. That's my favorite song. Now you're out here looking. Okay, did he determine it?

SPEAKER_00

That's his favorite. My favorite is Tell Me You Love Me, which she did sing both these songs at the concert. So we were very excited to hear that. But um, like I said, she has so many albums, so many great albums. That's just one of the albums that I have, and that's one of my top albums from Demi Lovato.

SPEAKER_04

So you know what they said too? They said the sorry, not sorry. They said Jay-Z is the one who actually advised her to release that song. Wow, so that he and told her to make a um make a fun music video.

SPEAKER_00

And it is a good music video, and it's a good song. So I'm really glad that she fought for that song to make it.

SPEAKER_04

She says she did the video, it was inspired by a real life pop after she broke up with someone.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so Demi is, you know, and Demi's been through so much if you followed her story, and it's so nice to see her come back on top, I guess you could say.

SPEAKER_04

It's just the whole song is a vibe. Like, so I love like it starts off, you know it's on fire. She's like, now I'm out here looking like revenge, feeling like a 10, the best I've ever been. Like, and then like the chorus just go, she's like, you know, like she's a um, she goes, now payback is a bad, and baby, I'm the baddest. You missing, but she said another word with a savage. Can't have this, can't have this. Ah, that's my that's my I love it. And she's like, I like to take it easy on y'all. And it'd be nice of me to take it easy on y'all.

SPEAKER_00

But now Yeah, that was the most hype dad was at the concert. Like the only time he was really hyped at that concert.

SPEAKER_04

I will say, um, I will say Demi, Demi can sing. Yeah. At the rodeo, and Demi can sing. Like, she was out here hitting notes like she was in, like, she like it rent was due. Like she was out there, and her whole setup was really, really nice the way she did it.

SPEAKER_00

Back to the beginning.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I'm out of order, shadow.

SPEAKER_00

Dad's out of order. So it did take place at the Toyota Center, and like dad said, there was no traffic. We parked in a lot like right across the street. It was only $20, not too bad. The walk was like five to ten minutes to the center, and we got there. Actually, this was the earliest time we've ever been to a concert. We got there like at seven something. The concert didn't even start till eight.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we got there really early, but they said that the traffic could be bad. So we and we had that new edition experience that we had with the traffic. That that kind of threw me off a little bit. So I wanted to make sure that we weren't rushing and I wasn't frustrated. So and they started on time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they started on time. I woke up on that. The opener came out right at eight, and then Demi started right at nine.

SPEAKER_04

So it'd be speaking of the opener, Adela. Yeah. Oh, she just gave me the finger telling it to stop. She did okay.

SPEAKER_00

All right, so we got there. We did go to the merch line, and it was very, very long. But it went by really fast.

SPEAKER_04

It went quick. It was fast, it was long, but it was quick.

SPEAKER_00

And they had reasonable prices. It was original $40 prices. They had vinyls, they had over $35, which is in bad for vinyl. And they had also opener t-shirts as well. But we ended up, I well, dad never gets anything, but I got like a demi lavato shirt.

SPEAKER_04

I didn't see any of Delas with stuff. I ain't said I'm just writing a lot of things.

SPEAKER_00

I think they sold out, but I got a demi lavato shirt with her tour in the back. And then we walked around because dad saw someone who had dipping dots.

SPEAKER_04

And I stopped the lady. She was laughing when I scrapped. That's a ma'am, ma'am, ma'am, ma'am. Where'd you get that from? She just started laughing.

SPEAKER_00

So it was like, it's always somewhere. You just have to like walk around the whole Toyota Center sometimes. So we did get our dipping dots.

SPEAKER_04

Dippin' dots need to endorse us because I talk about dipping backs. We talk about this all the time. I dippin' dots, I did try to give me some freaking some free dipping dots. I knew I wanted to buy something, but you have to have a special refrigerator. I was I also thought about buying a freezer to give me just have dippin' dot.

SPEAKER_00

He's obsessed, but we did get our dipping dots. He got his banana split. I got my cookie dough, and then we did go to our seats, which I was really shocked by our seats. So dad got us club seats, and that spoils me too much because now I never want to sit anywhere else in the Toyota Center. So we were in section 109, row two, seats one and two, and the stage was just like right there. So for this concert, Demi Lovato had a pit. So she did have floor seats, and then she had a pit. So it was like a mosh pit in front of the floor seats. So some concerts do that, some don't. But Demi Lovato have that. But we had amazing seats. So the club is basically you have your own bar, you have your own food, and you have your own restrooms. So it's really, really nice. And it was really fun. I don't think I've sat in club before. Dad says we have, but I don't remember which I think this might have been. I don't know, but it was really fun. I really like the club section. I love the club vibe, and I would highly recommend.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you can you don't have to go anywhere out. Once you get in, that's there's food there, there's restrooms there, everything is right there. Yeah, so you get treated like a king and the queen there. It's it's amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And then of course, our neighbor friends, our concert friends, were really nice. The people sitting next to us, um, they were really funny.

SPEAKER_04

They were hilarious. Um, I didn't get the sister-in-law's name, but she was funny too. But Candace was the Candace was the lady who was there. She was really funny, and I won't say everything that she said, it was hilarious. I'll keep it between us, but she was funny, and when I tell you they were a whole vibe, they were a whole vibe.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so energetic throughout the concert.

SPEAKER_04

They were there with that with her daughter, but her daughter was in a mosh pit. And but they were like, they weren't doing it. They were like they when they were when they need a seat.

SPEAKER_00

Uh which I don't blame them because I've done the mosh pit, I've done outdoor concerts, and I need a seat every single time.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Candace was great. She told me when I told her we were gonna talk about her. She said, Um, make sure you talk about my about my travel agency. So she has a travel agency, it's memories emotion luxury travel. And her email is Candace at me M-O-R-I-E-S-I-N-M-O-T-I-O-N dot travel. And I'll well she'll drop that as well, but I want to make sure that I told her that we would. And they when I tell you they were a whole bob, they were so funny. It was so funny.

SPEAKER_00

It was such a fun time.

SPEAKER_04

They were amazing. And I would tell if her husband ever hears this, let me tell you, Candace loves you.

SPEAKER_01

She was she was showing us pictures that she was trying to she was um telling Alex about her son and trying to make she was she was trying to hook up everybody if she was trying to hook that set that lower.

SPEAKER_00

She was talking about talking to one of the workers there, and she was like, I have a friend who's your age, and she was just playing matchmaker the whole time.

SPEAKER_04

She was trying to hook Alex up at her son too. So she told me, Girls, you have my number, so we need to call me. And um, and she was funny and she

SPEAKER_00

showing us the pictures of her son and then she said a picture it was a picture with the dad in the son she said oh you can't have him honey that's my big oh look at him oh that's my baby she loves that man like so and they were so fun it's always fun when you meet people at concerts and you can have a whole vibe with them so they were so fun and we stopped by I mean we were there within the whole time talking and chatting so like dad said now we can get to the opener she opened at 8 p.m. Her name is Adela. So Adela is a singer songwriter and dancer. She rose to fame from a reality show called Dream Academy which as many of you know that was how the group Cat's eye was created so that's how she rose to fame and she said during the concert some of her inspirations of course she idolized Demi Lovato Selena Gomez and Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus and I think it's really cool that you idolize someone and then you get to perform with them and I think that is so cool. It's like a full circle kind of thing. She's amazing she can dance yeah she can sing and sing. So her stage was like with a bar kind of like in ballet so she did a lot of ballet moves she was so flexible and she had several dancers with her very beautiful girl very energetic I mean very good dance.

SPEAKER_04

I mean ballet dancing anything she was doing everything she was doing everything. She's Slavic born she lives in LA now okay so there you go.

SPEAKER_00

All her songs were good so we'll have to give her a listen and she was really good.

SPEAKER_04

I was impressed and she could dance he could I was impressed with her singing but her dancing was amazing. She went to so many different things and you're terrific when she talked to you be like breathing catching her breath but she was killing it. She was really good she danced pretty much the whole thing.

SPEAKER_00

She did and she came out from like eight to like 830ish 835ish and she sang several of her songs. And then she did a song with Demi she came back and did a song with Demi at the end she came back out and did a song with Demi Lovato and she was really good so definitely we'll be listening to her more and I highly recommend giving her a listen. She was a really good performer and hopefully one day she will get her own big stage and dad and I will definitely buy tickets to go see her because she was so good.

SPEAKER_03

She was amazing.

SPEAKER_00

And so Demi Lovato did come out exactly at 9 p.m for us in Houston.

SPEAKER_04

They love when they're on time. Yes and she was represented from Texas I don't know if y'all know she's from the Dallas area that's where she grew up she was born in Albuquerque but she grew up in Texas and Dallas. So she was very happy to be home.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah she said that too and we were her last concert um I think the other two are like the casinos or something like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah but way out in food we were the last one on the tour yeah we're the last one on the tour.

SPEAKER_00

So she came out and she did a lot of her new albums so she did start off with um fast which is her new album. I I don't want to be that person but I I we listened to her new album a couple of times. I know a lot more of her older songs but her new album's pretty good too.

SPEAKER_02

That's nice.

SPEAKER_00

So she did do a her new album and then her little second act was like more of her older songs. So you know Heart Attack Tell Me You Love Me Competent and she had dancers on stage that were really good as well. She was dancing as well let me let me interrupt you out the way she came out the way they did they did a lot of backstage when she came out to the behind the things and they had like a garage or what type of thing to the video camera guy because he really got good angles and the way he was following her all over the place was really cool. And she had dancers and then it was kind of like kind of like yeah like a garage setup area type of thing and like the doors would open and she would come up from different areas.

SPEAKER_04

And they would get her backstage and get the dancers backstage with then walking back and doing day it was it was really it was a concept that I hadn't seen before and it was pretty cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah it was really cool. And then they had like um where she it was kind of like a cutoff where she could walk on top of the stage. So she was up there a couple times too singing and she can sing.

SPEAKER_04

She's got no she can she can she can go like she was hit no to you just like okay Demi I hear you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah she could sing really well and it was also her wedding anniversary so she said that basically so one like thing about Demi's show is she goes through her eras so in one part of the section she will let the audience pick one of her eras so like her camp rock era her funk pop era her she just lets them pick like in a bag she brings out like this whole rack of costumes and she's like which one am I gonna sing? Which I do feel like she already knows.

SPEAKER_04

She already knows. So they chew their music up way too fair.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah and if not a lot of band I think it's like like recorded even I think it's yeah rehearsed so I really do think like the number the audience picked which is cool because she does involve the audience and they can pick a number from a bag I do think that maybe the numbers are all the same.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah I do too I think but it was so good.

SPEAKER_00

So for us she did her um I think it's forever for me right Ever for me. So her like kind of like punk rock um era she did that song.

SPEAKER_04

If you didn't know some of her songs you still were just like you were still pretty pretty good. So we said we know that my favorite song was sorry not sorry but I will tell you tell me you love me she was killing that song she sung the heck out there song my favorite song she sung Heart as Heck was really good. She did that one I like the skyscraper song that is really really good. Those are like her older yeah but she I mean Stone Cold she she I mean she when I tell you she was killing that when she said tell me you love me or tell me you love me I need someone on days like this I do like she was she was killing it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah and she's a like from her really don't care that's like from her early album so that's like what does she keep calling us Lovatos Lovatos and she's like these are from my day ones and I was like yes Debbie I've I've been watching you since Camp Rock Sunny with a chance like I love it. So it was really cool to see her perform her music and it was like dad said we did see her at the rodeo but like we've said before the rodeo acoustics aren't the same so being able to see her in a full out concert was really really cool and she her dancers were really great all of them could dance and it was really cool because she they highlighted them she highlighted them like yeah she highlighted them she put their names like on the um camera on the thing for a bit to move up they they could dance. It was really cool and she was just such a vibe it was such a great time and highly recommend if she is in your area next concert go see her because she is done.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah she was really good I and we always like you know we don't like I don't want to say we people watch but it's always every concert has a different vibe different people so it was a different there was a it was like it's always different crowds which is always really fun to see and see who actually also like them.

SPEAKER_00

She brought out different people there were so many different races so many different cultures there was a lot of different people there. And I have to like that reminded me too like these are probably all the people who sh grew up with her. Yeah so you know like we've been seeing her since like I said her day one so we basically grew up with Demi Lovato so that's all who we want to see like there was a couple kids there baby their parents probably had them watching all the shame yeah and even though like there weren't as many kids it was a lot of adults I will say there was a lot of adults so it was so much fun and I just like I said it's so nice to see how far Demi Lovato has come and to see her journey of I don't know if a lot of people followed her but to see her journey from her being a kid to now her being an adult her being married her touring you know she hasn't gone on tour in a long time her it's not that deep tour that's what the tour was and it was a really good time and a really fun experience. And I have to say I would give her a Jackson 5 just because I think she was I I loved I think she could sing.

SPEAKER_04

She's biased because you know she grew up with Demi so that's a childhood real I think she was really really good. I'm between a Cold play and a Jackson 5 I think maybe I'll give her a Jackson vibe because it's something that I hadn't seen before um the way the cameras were going that there was just a really it was a vibe and she could sing like Demi could sing. She could hit some notes and her dances were amazing. It was just a really good show and I I give her I'm gonna give her a Jackson vibe because her opening actor Della was pushed over the top she was so good. She was a really really great opening I knew none of her songs but I was real vibing and I could feel her song like it was just a good song. She was dancing I was just like she would do movies back like oh okay I see you like it so I would give it a Jackson Bob as well.

SPEAKER_00

It was so good. So um highly recommend next time she goes on tour go see her. We did stop to get food before like always so we did stop at a place called Mongo's in Pearland um it's basically a Mongolian bar and grill. So essentially it's kind of like hibachi style but like you walk up and they cook it for you and then it's like a dining experience.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah you have bowls and you put the the certain things in that you want in there and you have to fill the bowl up and if once the bowl is full you know if you want more stuff you have to get you have to get more of me I stuffed my bowl.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah dad goes crazy. So they have veggies meats and then you pick your carp. And so dad and I did our own bowls and I did a noodle bowl with chicken and beef and dad went crazy and did chicken beef. He did white dark meat beef shrimp eggs and rice.

SPEAKER_04

And it was good too and oh and I put them in a honey sauce where they never garlic sauce I told him it was good. So I don't know if like from based on what we said I'm not a saucepan at all. So we like some mayo yes I don't eat sauce like I added a little sauce in it it was really good at added flavor to it I like too then you can you teasing your own your own food but it's kind of hard because the bowl is so little you want to kind of mix to that but you can't you know so but it's really cool.

SPEAKER_00

It's a fun little experience and it's like semi you know hibachi not hibachi they cook it for you but you don't sit there and this big old it's a big like round thing and you can watch them if you want to they'll let you watch them if you want to but I mean we just go back and sit down. I mean once you see it once it's not necessarily what you're like when you first do it it's kind of fun to watch and you know so we did that and then we did um pot sticklers for appetizer.

SPEAKER_04

I'm obsessed with pot sticklers pot sticklers.

SPEAKER_00

They were pork and then we got lemonade but I would highly recommend it's in the Paraland town center. It's really fun it's not too expensive.

SPEAKER_04

And if there's other things to do in Paraland you can go after or you can go get you some tip treats and they have other places over that you can get snacks and stuff on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah you can even shop you can walk the fruit off after you eat it if you want to soft or and they don't have ice cream you get they give you free ice cream at the end too yeah you can get a free ice cream from the ice cream thing chocolate or vanilla you know your plain ones but you can never go wrong with chocolate or vanilla ice cream.

SPEAKER_04

We have a kid there were some kids that came in and got some ice cream I don't know if they were supposed to but they do I think you have to like buy a meal and then get ice cream but I don't think they could yeah but you know but we were talking about ice cream another thing dip and dot I've been supporting them since 88.

SPEAKER_00

I need them to give me some free dip and dots but so that was our eating place and so today our chop segment what I have created for dad so I did it based off of of course like I said I keep saying it camp rot that's where like you know I saw Demi Lovato first.

SPEAKER_04

So the meal is a campfire style meal and ingredients are strawberries chicken marshmallows and potatoes she tried to stomp me and she's like make it a campfire meal what what does that even mean so okay so I feel like you know you need something special a little chaotic a little comforting slightly dramatic and fully like you know we make this understairs why singing emotionally like at 1147 at night. So um it's a full campfire dinner featuring strawberries chicken potatoes and marshmallows I call it the coup for the campfire meal that's what I that's what I named it the coup for the campfire meal the main dish is the confident campfire chicken oil packs we'll make full packs you need chicken thighs or breast garlic butter paprika rent seasoning salt and pepper and a little honey for sweetness and then we can add some baby potatoes in there that's the potatoes onion slices bell peppers if you want some extra color or drama and you wrap it in fall and cook it over the fire or or the grill until it's crispy and smoky. Then on the side we have I call it the heart attack strawberry campfire salsa you dice the strawberries jalapenas red onion cilantro we may remove the cilantro and you know a bit of that flavor and some lime juice and you serve it as a chicken or with chip because Demi would absolutely approve of something sweet spicy and emotionally complex. And then the bonus side you call it the sorry not sorry loaded campfire potatoes. You take the baked campfire potatoes and you load them with cheese, sour cream, bacon bits and green onions. It's optional but you can aggressively sprinkle extra cheese while yelling this is my confident era. And then for the dessert we have the skyscraper strawberry marshmallow s'mores. You take you toast the marshmallows and sandwich them with graham crackers, chocolate and fresh strawberries or you can go full chaos and put strawberries inside the marshmallows before roasting. And then tonight's meal will be sponsored by emotional support potato slightly overcooked marshmallows and denying the butter vocal powerful enough to make the campfire burn brighter.

SPEAKER_00

Okay well I'm excited because I was actually trying to figure out what dad would create off of this because I did feel like this was one of our crazier baskets. It was so I was like dad like I was gonna change and he's like just give it to me I will figure it out so I am excited to try that out I was like trying to figure out what he was gonna make. So catch that coming soon on our YouTube segment we will be posting that. But I'm excited okay so enough about food because it's making me really hungry. All of this talk about Demi Lovato and Camp Rock brings me back to childhood and a big thing in childhood were toys and so I think I remember dad talking about how when I was in my superhero era, which I kind of still am about all the toys that used to come out with TV shows and how the toys were popular because of the TV shows or dad knows more about it. But the question is are today's toys as connected to TV shows as they used to be so I know dad can go in a little more about toys in the 90s and 80s and different things like that.

SPEAKER_04

So He-Man which is one of the the biggest things the first thing that comes to my mind is He-Man He-Man was a toy that was created and then it because the toy they created a TV show based on this card based on this toy that they wanted to do and um as a response because they turned down a toy that ended up blowing up and so they created their own He-Man and for like two years nothing could touch He-Man like it was the biggest thing they created like 63 episodes in one season for the He-Man and um now that I look back at it let me let me let me explain I love He-Man still love He-Man you know OG but you watch some of the newer He-Man and you understand some of the stuff like I watched the 2002 um He-Man I tell people that's probably the best one I like the one that they did on Netflix as well but the one in 2002 was so good and it was so well written I was mad that they turned it off but it was a really really good show and they turned it off basically because the toys didn't sell as much as they were selling. That happened with Green Lantern too the animated series very very good show very well written but the movie didn't do too well and the T and the and the toys didn't sell too well. So they turned it off and they turned it off like on the cliffhanger which I'm still mad about that. So if the Green Lantern people ever hear this could y'all tell me what y'all were gonna do with Aya because I really want to know but you know whatever I digress. But a lot of toys I don't think it's as much now you have games that are based on that like He-Man the new He-Man game is coming out I was talking to my friend David about that and I was talking to him about it and he's all excited too it's a He-Man scrolling game and it's kind of going back and forth and they basing it because the new He-Man movie is coming out so they're trying I think trying to put it out around the same time but even my based off He-Man She-Raking She-Ra was so well written Thundercats another one and I felt like when we were when we when I was growing up back then they just sold the toys and that's what they were really selling it for like there was no no no rhyme or reason like you will go back and you look at the shows they didn't really have it you didn't know how he-Man became He-Man you know they just threw a He-Man cartoon and we were like oh yeah baby let me play with my He-Man toys so then you get shows like She Red who had a premise they you know they did that with He-Man they bought it out from He-Man Thundercats at a premise G.I. Joe was another popular show that had toys that they sold so yeah so back then now not so much and like I said that's why I think the Toy Story 5 thing is so true because these kids don't all they want to do is they don't play games like my grandsons quit playing toys when they were like seven or eight. Like I was playing toys I was like 12, 13.

SPEAKER_00

There's a lot of technology and video games now compared to toys and I know that there are shows now I feel like that they create and they create toys based off of the shows compared to how during dad's time they created the shows based off of the toys but now you know you have like the Papa Show show and they have toys based off of it not necessarily the other way around.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah and so I thought that was really an interesting tip.

SPEAKER_04

And they make video games more for them like even those little apps not even sometimes video games they just make apps and they do that and kids will play on the tablet like I will just play on this tablet and just play games like little games that are that he likes and you watch these games and not like they're based off of TV shows. And it's just different and that's what I was trying to remember I knew where there was it was Star Wars. So Mattel had passed on Star Wars and Star Wars blew up the the toys blew up so they created he-Man for that reason and then they they brought he-Man back and they're selling they're selling the old school he-Man they're bringing them back and people buy them because people are collectors and I wish I would have cut some of my toys back in the day because like they are some of these toys are worth a lot a lot of money and um you know you buy the toys but like it's a different time.

SPEAKER_00

These kids don't have Saturday morning cartoons like we did they show they showed the two I can remember watching I remember my grandpa putting on TV for my cousins and I and we would watch like obviously the shows weren't like the superhero shows our shows were like Dora Candymanny like on Disney Channel and we would have a couple like superhero shows. I mean I remember um I I think it's like Jake and the dragon show that would come on on Disney and we would watch shows like that. And I mean I think about like dad says with the new Toy Story 5 movie coming out in June later in June it's now centered around like this tablet because that's what kids are on. And if you look back at the earlier movies like Toy Story one and two how Andy is obsessed with Woody and Buzz but you could see how his room mirrors that like they had he had the bed spread he had the posters he had like the toys that went along with Woody and Buzz and you don't see that as much anymore. I mean of course you still have like the the bed sheets and stuff but like it was just how it was centered around this one toy and then I think about it too like the commercials to get the toy how there used to be commercials about like advertising this toy and growing up I think that was still kind of around like when I was growing up I mean the early 2000s but it's not as relevant now. I mean I can remember loving to go to Toys R Us. I mean there was a Toys R Us that was just for toys toys galore.

SPEAKER_04

I don't want to grow up I'm a Toys R Us kid that was yeah and now I mean Toys R Us is shut down.

SPEAKER_00

I mean I don't even know if some of these kids know what Toys R Us was and they would even go to the store and buy toys like that anymore like no I mean they have toy sections but you can tell like it's different. Like you can tell it's more video game geared and a lot of the toys now are very um like they do more things I would say because you have to be very creative with how you would do your use your toys like there was voice boxes but it wasn't a lot of like words.

SPEAKER_04

You know you have to be creative and how you would play with your toys but you even saw that in Toy Story right to my Bez was Buzz was different. And even they had a Buzz like your commercial Bez was so different from Woody.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And even then the difference in that and how it was still he would still play with his toys and how Buzz was still you know compared to now where they don't really and I think you can see the change a little bit in Toy Story 3 too with like kids how they cared for their toys. I mean I remember my aunt telling me what she would do with her Barbies and she had like a Barbie dream house and she had the cars and all the Barbies, the Ken's and the you know and the different scenarios she would play with them.

SPEAKER_04

And now I mean you could like dad said you can play the Barbie game online or like a I think too and this isn't not a shot at these kids or anything I don't want anybody think because you know we have we have young kids in our family. I think they don't they're not as creative because when we grew up playing with our toys like you said your aunt would make up games with her toys and she would do stuff like that. Now they just play Roblox and Fortnite and games like that.

SPEAKER_00

And so I think too like even with um my older granddaughter like I feel like sometimes like when we wrote stories our stories were more were different because we had vivid imagination you had to have imagination in order to play with your toys yeah and I feel like too there wasn't of course there wasn't as much technology you know you had your simple video game devices but it was much more of a toy kind of world I mean like I said like they had a lot more toys like a whole store dedicated to toys and that's just not available anymore.

SPEAKER_04

No. But I mean you can turn it from Walmart and Target but it's not as big as toys the rest was all toys. Yeah like it was nothing else it was just all toys and so I just think even KB um toys they used to have a KB toys that's not out anymore. A lot of their clothes they were at the mall you go to the mall and your parents be shopping you were like I want to stop at KB toys and so it's so different now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah and I think it's really crazy to see the change. I mean even from the change between when dad was a kid till when I was a kid and now when I was a kid to these kids how different it is and it's just crazy.

SPEAKER_04

I think too when we say that too like I tell people it's a joke it's a running joke and my sister and I um Keisha say that all the time it's like these kids don't have the experience and I've seen other people say that grew up in our times you don't have the experience of running to the bathroom trying to get to the bathroom and get back before before your commercial was over with to see this show that you're watching every Saturday like that was the day you never wanted to wake up early but on Saturday you woke up early sat in front of the TV with your bowl of cereal played until like 12 o'clock until the shows went off like 12 1 o'clock is when they went off and then you would go outside and play. But it was Saturday everybody knew everybody was going to be in there at Saturday.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah and it's just it's just crazy how much times have changed but I want to do I want to ask dad I don't really remember I never remember stuff guys that's the problem with dad and I dad remembers so much and I don't remember like certain things but I do know that dad would always talk about toys and the TV shows that so that's kind of what brought up this little discussion. But I do want to know Which franchise had the best toys growing up?

SPEAKER_04

I'm biased. I'm going to say He-Man. I loved He-Man. He-Man was just, it was just stiff, it was just I mean my imagination. And they had Castle Grace Co. and they had all the little wives and they had the things like that. Another one that I know was really, really good with Teenage Beating Ninja Turtles had really, really good toys. They still um do their old, but they had really, really good toys as well. But I am a He-Man fanatic. G.I. Joe is very popular with some people, but I am a He-Man fanatic. That's what I had. I had He-Man, and um I loved He-Man.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. I don't remember too much. I can remember having a Door of the Explorer backpack with all the stuff in it. So I guess I could say that. I was a big door of the Explorer fan. So I do remember having the backpack with the mat, then you could like put stuff in it. So it was like a hard backpack. It wasn't like the soft one. So I do remember that. So I guess I would probably say, I guess, my door of the explorer.

SPEAKER_04

You still have a door of the explorer. Your last gift that grandma grandma bought you was a door of the explorer that grew her hair. At least in the cabinet that we have saved up that nobody could touch when she was a little girl. People would be like, they'd be like, Oh, can I see a doll? She's like, No, my grandma grandma bought me that. Nobody can play with it. So she still has that toy. It was the last gift my grandmother bought her for Christmas before she passed away. And so she still has that. And she has a cymbaline king that my grandmother gave her. Those are the two toys that she still has in storage.

SPEAKER_00

See, he remembers a lot more than I do. But okay, so if you could have one toy from your childhood back in perfect condition, what would it be?

SPEAKER_04

Probably maybe in the Mario, I not only Mario counts the Mario game, because that game is worth a lot of money, the original one. But if I had the same one, it'd probably be my He-Man, my uh like original He-Man not opened up because some of these things like And you could sell that for a lot of original. I'm looking down like the 1979 prototype Baba Faye action figure went for $1.34 million.

SPEAKER_00

Or like people are collectors and they're gonna be able to do it.

SPEAKER_04

Or maybe one of Keisha's Barbie dolls, because those Barbies, certain Barbie dolls sell for a lot of money.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and especially now they're making so many different types of Barbies. I am not too sure if Barbies are still very popular, like with toys with kids playing with them, but they have like different types of Barbies. I know they're including like Barbies who are disabled, and they're including different races of Barbies now, so it is expanding. I mean, we did just have the Barbie movie, so that might have brought back some popularity with the toys. I'm not too sure how it's doing though, but I my aunt was a big Barbie fan. I had Barbies, but I wasn't the biggest fan of Barbies. But you're not my aunt was, but I did have Barbie dolls, and so I don't know if maybe it's making a comeback with the new Barbie movie that came out. But last question what TV show would have made the best toys but never got them? Um did Static Shock have toys?

SPEAKER_04

I don't remember if they did or I love Static Shock.

SPEAKER_00

I recently just watched that show because I was, like I said, in my superhero era and I was watching all of the shows. But Static Shock was a really good show, but I don't know if they had to do it.

SPEAKER_04

They didn't really have some, but it's not a lot of toys that they really it wasn't really like they had some, but it wasn't like I don't think they made it as big of a deal as some. I'm looking it up now and I see some stuff, but it wasn't a lot of big things. I would probably say for me, maybe I love this old show. It's called Thunder the Barbarian. I think that would be really, really good to to that would have been a good one to have was Thunder Barbarian. I know it's not a cartoon, but they should have made some Golden Girl toys. I would have I love Golden Girls, but you know, that's neither here nor there. But I think um Thunder the Barbarian is really good. They have some old, like some other things that I feel like they didn't get enough um push for. So Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So let us know what your favorite toys were growing up. And I mean, I remember some other toys, like I remember having a Tamagotchi. Now that was like a little thing where you would take it. Yeah, so you you know, it was kind of like a mini Sims, but on a little device, and you would play with it. So I do remember certain things, but let us know what your favorite toys are and what your kids' favorite toys are now. So yeah, compare.

SPEAKER_04

Talk to a kid and compare your childhood. I don't know if some people do it. Alex and I talk about their generation isn't as far back as now the generation is now from where I grew up, knowing the times I grew up in.

SPEAKER_00

So okay, so now it's one of our favorite parts, our blind ranking. So the blind ranking is going to be songs from the Demi Lovato concert. So it's just a mix of all her songs.

SPEAKER_04

Give me what I need. Give me what I need.

SPEAKER_00

So, first up is Tell Me You Love Me. Now I know I usually go three, but that's gonna be one for me. That's my favorite song.

SPEAKER_04

So mark this on the calendar. On this day, on this episode, Alex Fix Something One. I'm gonna go two with that one because the way she sang that song at the concert was amazing. So number two. I'm holding out for one thing. You everybody knows what that is.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, we do. And the second one is Really Don't Care. So that's where we don't have her early albums. Um, I'd have to say, I guess three.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna go three with that one. I like that. The beat of the music is really good. I really because I really don't care either way.

SPEAKER_00

Our third song is Sorry, not sorry.

SPEAKER_04

Now I'm out here looking like, okay, that's number one.

SPEAKER_00

That would be my number two. That one's really good, I will say. So that'll be number two. The fourth song is Stone Cold. Um, I really like Stone Cold, so four.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna put that four because I would have put that before number three. I like that. That would have been my third song, but I really don't care. Sorry, not sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Our last song is Cool for the Summer. So I guess that'll be both our fives.

SPEAKER_04

I'm okay with my list of the auto flip towards three and four, because I really don't care. And I'm sorry, not sorry.

SPEAKER_00

All of her songs are so great, including her new album. But that is our blind ranking. Let us know what yours is in the comments. SPEAKER_04

Oh, wait, wait, wait. I have something for you. I have something for you.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Why does Rudy have a hard time understanding bullseye? This is an honor of my mother.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_04

Because he is a little horse.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh, Dad, please.
