What's going on, sports fans? Welcome to another edition of the Destin FM Scoreboard Show. As always, I am your host, Rich Cunonas, as we are putting a bow on another week of the local sports college, minor league, and professional teams in our backyard. And I gotta say this, you know, now that we are fast approaching the dog days of summer, you got a lot going on with some of these high schools with recruitment, transfers, spring summer practices, summer school, the graduation schedules coming out. Oh my goodness. I mean, so much is going on in our area. And we always encourage you guys, first and foremost, thank you so much for staying connected with us, checking us out online, following Destin FM. Uh, we always want to start by saying thank you very much. The support has been just fantastic. As always, get social with us as we typically will rip through about 15 plus to 20 plus minutes on the air, uh, Facebook Destin FM, I G, Destin FM, X at Destin underscore FM, and TikTok at Destin FM for myself. Very easy to do. You guys have been following me for the last several uh weeks, almost for the last couple months, on X and I G at RichQ on Q. And of course, TikTok, uh RichQ on the mic, the YouTube channel at RichQ on Q, or you can just Google Rich Canone's. You know, we put a lot of shorts and videos up as well. And um, don't forget Monday to Friday, you can always tune into on Q, which I do as well. Uh on the uh East Coast, we do a lot of what's going up and down, uh, talk a lot of sports, what's going on uh East Coast, uh, all the way up to uh Philly, New York, down to DC to DMV, and of course to Florida and the panhandle. So, as I mentioned, high school, uh, you know, not too much. I mean, some area schools are still looking to fill the void with a couple of um coaching hires, and I know schedules have been coming out. We've been hitting on the schedules over the last uh two or so uh weeks, and it's not gonna change. I mean, obviously, you know, the more information that becomes accessible, that's what we want, right? So uh, you know, I I can just say this some teams, football's right around the corner. We know that uh we know that some teams are retooling, some teams brought in some new coaches. I think next week we will probably um do a little more with the scheduling because it's fluid. It it really is, and and we want to make sure we hit Fort Walton, South Walton, Walton, Destin, Crestview, Niceville, Milton, Pace. We want to make sure that we hit all that Choctaw in a nutshell. And I'm still trying to get a little more clarity on the scheduling, but we know football is going to take center stage. I mean, we already know that. I mean, I I can tell you this, you know, they already have some of these spring camps going, these mega camps going, and they're they're fantastic. They're just absolutely the turnout in our area. Uh, it's been uh just flat out incredible. Uh, I know Chuck Tall, they take uh part in a lot of the mega camps, right? They're all over the place. I think they're in Mercer University. So uh if you give them a follow on X. Uh, you also got uh some players right now that have been um committed, like for instance, um I can tell you that uh Donovan uh Dark, uh just uh the outside uh lineman uh just got or just committed to um Kent, Kent State. That's a Mac school and obviously had a standout career uh with Niceville. So players are uh they are you know pretty much um latching on, right? Uh we saw that Avery Cowles uh got an offer from Lindsay Wilson flag football, which is pretty cool. Uh and like I said, you know, the list is gonna keep going on and on and on and on. Now, um Niceville, you know, people are looking at them to really make some big time noise this coming season, as well as Destin and as well as Choctaw and Fort Walton, you know, I'm not gonna sleep on Fort Walton. We talked a little bit about some of the players that are coming back, uh what they're looking to do, you know, what they're looking to build upon. And I know that their coaches are absolutely, you know, well entrenched, well engaged. Uh they had that summer aid going on uh for the freshmen. Uh and uh if you look at some of these other uh players, you know, look, they're they're gonna come back, they're gonna have a uh chip on their shoulder, are they not? And I think a lot of times what we see, especially in high school, when teams have tough seasons or teams have really tough playoff losses, like uh it's sometimes you just you want to kind of wipe that away, right? Now for Walton, if you think about their schedule, they're gonna open up against Walton, then hit the road against uh uh the Raiders, then they have Escambia in October uh just to kind of start things off. So it's not a uh it's not a walk in the park, it is not a cupcake schedule, and I think you're gonna see a little more of these local teams open up the playbook offensively, and I think we're gonna see that. I you know, there were some teams that relied a lot on the ground game last year, there were some teams that were able to kind of have that aerial attack. Now, mark it down. Destin takes on Walton, that's October 9th, and that game will be uh at Walton. So if you look at some of their first couple games, you know, the schedule starts to kind of filter out at Walton, and then they come and they take on uh Grace View. Uh so you've got Walton. Uh, that if you look at their couple games, they go uh they host uh West Florida, then Arnold. They've got for Walton Beach in September, Freeport, South Walton, Destin in October. So we'll go through the scheduling. And I promise you, we're working very hard to get some of these coaches on. You know, Destin obviously last year did not have the type of season they wanted, one and nine, so they want to flip the script and get out to a good start. As far as uh minor league baseball and the wahoos, uh, we told you this during the weekly 62nd scoreboard. They had a couple players of note that deserved uh some recognition. That I think ultimately, I love the fact what minor league baseball is doing now. Like they're trying to recognize, because obviously it's the uh Olive branch to the minors, whether it's single A, double A, triple A, but they're starting to recognize some of these players for you know their performances uh on the field. And I love the fact that the Southern League uh gave a little credence, right, to Carson uh Milbrand, who was pitcher of the month in May, uh outfielder Fenwick Trimble, who was named Player of the Mont. And Pensacola right now, kind of in the midst of that six-game homestand against Chattanooga. Now they'll have uh Friday, which is when we come on the air. First pitch is going to be slated for 6.05, so we'll get this fired off prior to. But, you know, they, the Wahoos, have been a little uh hit and miss. They've been a little hit and miss over the last several series, and they got to figure out a way to just consistently get on base and um manufacture runs. And I think that was kind of the case on Thursday night. You know, Dishme took a no-hitter into the six, that was just his second double AA start. Uh, but again, you know, Pensacola, they they fall two to one on Thursday night. You had a two uh two-out RBI single that gave the lookouts a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, and then you had that double play late, and that pretty much um styming every rally from Pensacola. Now, Dishme, uh, Alizar Dishme was called up from high A Beloit last week. So, you know, again, you got a young pitcher, you're gonna feel him out. You want to try to get on base, you want to manufacture runs, you want to help him out and give him a little bit of run support to get things going. Now, if you look at their schedule coming up, it's not easy. It's just it's not easy. Like they need to figure out a way, they got to go on a run where you're running, you know, you're winning four of six. Can't be dropping two of six when these series. Think about this. So Tuesday get to win five to four. Then they come back, they lose four to one. Then they come back on Thursday, lose two to one. Now you've got uh Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Sunday, by the way, 405 first pitch. You have Monday, then they hit the road against a pretty good Columbus team. Then they're gonna see Chattanooga to close out the month of June. So you want to bookmark that, and you just want this team to kind of keep hovering, you know, right around 500, a couple games over 500. Uh SEC, college football news and notes. We've talked about it over the last two or three episodes of the Destin FM scoreboard show. A lot of you guys have been asking me because you know I talk a lot about college football uh during the week on queue. If you're looking at some of these power rankings in the SEC, look, Texas, you got to have them at number one along with Georgia, right? One and two respectively. Texas returned that load it roster. Obviously, you got the Heisman Trophy runner, front runner, uh, Arch Manning. You got some outstanding offensive weapons. Georgia, we know Georgia always comes to play defensively, and I think you know their defensive baseline still remains intact. Uh, obviously, under Kirby Smart, they are a perennial college football playoff lock. A team that's retooled, reloaded, LSU. They uh had a massive overhaul through or via the transfer portal. They've got a ton of upgrades. I think they might be a dark horse sleeper. Texas AM, I would say four to five right now. Uh, they've got some pretty good over the last several years, top 10 recruiting presidents old miss, it's all about that offense, right? They're gonna be in the top five conversation. Alabama, look, you know, you can't put them high in the rankings just because they're the Crimson tide. You got new coaching systems, they're navigating through a pretty tough traditional phase right now. They're a physical team. You still know they command that respect. Are they the Alabamas in the past? It's yet to be seen. We'll know, you know, the first two to three weeks of the college football season. Oklahoma, I would say Tennessee, Missouri has been hit or miss, but they're coming off a couple strong seasons now. They want to build upon that eight-plus win. They've got a brutal 2020 schedule. Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Florida, you know, look, they kind of came back down the light. Then you got Auburn, and they're just too inconsistent. Arkansas, Kentucky, I think they both hinge on the quarterback play, especially Kentucky, and then Mississippi. And they're kind of like at the bottom right now, if you're looking at those types of rankings, which we will dive into a lot more. John Bueller from Fan Side, it covers the SEC in our backyard. He's going to join me most likely in a week or two uh on a future Dustin FM scoreboard show. As far as you know, the NFL, uh, so uh everyone is up in arms. Are they not? With somebody's signings right now, all I'm hearing is what the heck are the Atlanta Falcons doing? Why are you breaking the bank? Why are you breaking the bank on wide receivers? That is a no-no. Well, listen, it is what it is. Like, if you want to be able to give that money to B. John Robinson, so be it, right? But you got to pay guys. And Drake London is a star. I know people look at this contract. It is a massive contract. It was a $140 million extension. It's a four-year deal. You know, great job by his agent. He's not going anywhere. He's one of the highest paid players in franchise history. I'm almost choking. I got to take a sip of my fresh roast of coffee. He's one of the highest paid players in Falcons history. So he can earn up to $150 million if he reaches incentives, and that'll put him under contract with the Falcons through the 2030 season. Think about some of these players: JSN, Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, now Drake London. He's kind of in that middle tier, right around 3536. Drafted number eight in 2022. Uh, he is a very good player. He got paid even though he sat out five games because of an injury. But when he's on the field, he's explosive. Now, I guess what do they do, right? Now they're going to turn their attention to who? The other skilled franchise player, and that's uh Bijan Robinson, who's heading into his fourth NFL season. And they picked up his fifth-year option for the 2027 season in April. So uh wide receivers are getting paid. Back in the day, wide receivers didn't really get paid. It was always the DBs, it was always the tackles, the edge rushers, the pass rushers, the quarterbacks, and the running back to some extent. Now, wide receivers are getting paid, which makes him the third highest paid wide receiver behind Seattle's JSN, and as I mentioned, Cincinnati's Jamar Chase rounding in out at $40.5 million. I mean, that is, as we like to say, mucho, mucho, mucho dinero. Uh, sticking with the NFL, Russell Wilson announced his retirement. He's going to join the CBS uh booth. Uh, no surprise, you know, Russell Wilson. I think he's a Hall of Fame quarterback. I know that's up for debate to some, but I would say that given the body of work, and let us not forget the run that he had with Seattle and winning a Super Bowl. Should have won two Super Bowls if it's not for Malcolm Butler. Uh, you know, do you kind of gloss over the last couple years, bouncing around with Denver, Pittsburgh, and then of course, cup of coffee, six games with the Giants. He did throw for 26 touchdowns a couple seasons ago with Denver, but his numbers speak for themselves. Over 350 touchdowns, 46,000, pretty much 47,000 yards. Actually, if you add in his rushing yards, which is way over 5,000, he's tallied 50 plus thousand all-purpose yards, passing, if you will, and rushing as a quarterback. But the main thing is the passing yards, 46,000. If you also add in his rushing touchdowns, another 31, that gets him a total of 384 for his career. A lot of Pro Bowls. Uh, I don't believe Russell Wilson ever made an all-pro. Uh, but as I mentioned, uh was in the conversation when it comes to um MVP conversation. Look, I he to me, I I I I think he's a Hall of Famer. I really do. I think he's a Hall of Famer. Uh, I I just, you know, Pro Bowl nine times, you win a championship, dual threat quarterback. Uh, you know, you can have the bar talk debate down the road, what if he would have played baseball? But the bottom line is for his size, what he did with that Seattle franchise, and how he carried himself, obviously he was a little different towards the end. Uh Russell Wilson to me, I think he's gonna be a lock to make the Hall of Fame. It might take a little bit of time because we've seen over the last several years kind of the bias with some of these writers and their agenda towards some of these quarterbacks. Um, NBA Finals game two. NBA Finals is Friday night. The Knicks stole game one. My New York Knicks stole game one on the road against San Antonio. They were down 14 to the fourth. Jalen Brunson decided to wake up. The Knicks said we're not going to play with our food anymore. They win by 10. They are a four and a half to five-point dog Friday night again on the road against San Antonio. Uh, it'll be interesting to see if uh Harper starts for San Antonio, if they mix the lineup, the starting lineup a little bit. But the Knicks, to me, they're on a mission. They won 12 straight postseason games. It's a historic run. They're a very good defensive team. Carl Anthony Towns has stepped up. Hart has just been the X factor. They're well balanced. They have bench players, uh, they play with a lot of confidence and they're coached up. I believe if the Knicks win tonight, it is going to be Friday night. It's going to be a short series. I really do. I think they're going to have an opportunity to close it out in New York, and it would be the first parade for the New York Knicks since 1973. All I want is one before I leave this Earth. And I don't think that's asking a lot, to be quite honest with you. Uh, baseball, before we wrap it up, Marlins Ray started three-game uh set this weekend. Marlins Red Hot three in a row. Uh Tampa's lost three straight, four out of five. Yankees got some crushing news, absolutely crushing news with uh Aaron Judge on the I. L. Brutal. Absolutely brutal. Now, I I know you know everyone's talking about this fressed fracture, but he's gonna be re-evaluated. It's a rip fraction four to six weeks, out indefinitely. We know the numbers with the Yankees when he's in the lineup, and we know the numbers for the Yankees when he's not in the lineup. Keep it at dad. Well, I'm saying I would just keep it at dad. So, all right, as I mentioned, we're gonna try to get some of these um coaches on. I'm gonna try to um see if we can track down uh Raphael Kratch, who's the uh Crestview Girls basketball head coach. They've been doing a lot of uh summer. Um, they've got some uh camps going on. We want to try to track them down. South Walton, we're gonna South Walton, we're gonna look for some of their coaches as well. Destin, we haven't forgotten about you guys. Uh, we are gonna bring on some of their head coaches, and we got some more ADs that we want to also spotlight as well because school's out right now. We want to try to get them before it really starts to get busy, July, August, as we start to prep for that fall sports calendar, which is gonna be very, very busy. All right, that's gonna start wrapping it up on another edition of the Destin FM scoreboard show. As always, you guys are phenomenal.
