Hey there, and welcome to the Modern Etsy Seller Podcast. And what you're wondering, this is the segment where I answer one specific Etsy question in under five minutes. I'm Melissa, a busy working mom with two profitable Etsy shops, and I help other busy women make money with Etsy and print on demand. So let's get to today's question. The question is: do I need to add video to my Etsy listing? So you don't have to include video, but I would definitely encourage you to. It's only going to help. It's never going to hurt your business to give buyers another way to experience your product. And Etsy actually just started allowing two videos, which I think is a really big deal. So let me just quickly go over the role that video has in your listings. So, first of all, like I said, you have two potential video slots that you can now fill. The first video slot can be seen in the search results by potential buyers. Though I do want to note that this is only true if they are searching on a desktop, not in the app on your phone. But if they're on the desktop and they hover over top of the image, the video is going to start playing. So the job of this video is to stop the scroll and have someone click into the listing. So the video should show the exact product featured in your listing. This is not the place for one generic video that you reuse in all of your other listings of that product type. And here's why. Think about how buyers shop. They search for something and then they receive pages and pages of possibilities, right? So they quickly scroll through all of these pages. And if they hover over your listing and the video starts playing, but they don't immediately see the product that they were just looking at, they're gonna easily lose track of it and keep scrolling. On the other hand, if they still see the product, but there's also movement, you've interrupted their scrolling pattern and given yourself a much better chance of earning that click. The good news is this video doesn't have to be complicated. It could simply be your listing images with subtle zooms, pans, and fades between them. It's actually much easier to create than most people realize, and you can do it right in Canva. And if you want some help with this, like send me an email. I'd be happy to walk you through it. Okay, so now the second video that they've just added is going to live inside your listing, and its job is completely different. This video's job is going to be to help you secure the sale. By the time someone is watching this video, they've already clicked into your listing, so they're interested. Now your job is to answer any remaining questions and remove any doubt they still have. Unlike that first video, this is one you can absolutely create once and use across all the listings for that particular product type. This is where you want to show the product in someone's hands and actually being used. Let's say it's a mug, for example. You're gonna hold it and show it from different angles. You wanna place it next to everyday objects so buyers can get a feel for its size. Maybe pour a cup of coffee into it or show yourself putting it in your cabinet. If it's a journal, flip through the pages, show someone writing in it, and let buyers see exactly what they'll receive. My recommendation is to create this video using the sample that you likely purchased at the start of choosing this product. It's a one-time investment that you can use over and over again. And it does a great job of building buyer confidence. So again, while you don't have to add video to your listings, I highly recommend you do. It is one of the simplest things you can do right now to stand out, build trust, and give buyers all the reasons to choose your listings over the one right next to it. All right, that's it for today.
