SPEAKER_06

Hello Kenneth. Hey buddy. We got a busy night tonight, man. Let's do it. Let's do it. So we're going to start out. You and I do some chit chat, and we'll bring on Austin Argane, who won the Nut Crusher. And we'll bring on Keith Rudestil, who won best of Texas. Finally didn't let me down after I don't think we did picks last week. You weren't on a chip.

SPEAKER_11

Did I mean we can assume you would have picked him.

SPEAKER_06

100%. But you know, that doesn't really pay the bills. Uh, you know, I didn't actually pick him on air, so that's why he won. Cool. Good for him. Um, then we're gonna do Oki Showdown and Vortex Vengeant previews. We'll bring on Justin Watts, uh, who I'm sure will be colorful. And we'll bring on uh we'll bring on Matt Steiner, who's also the uh center fire director and uh one of three match directors for that match. And then uh we'll finish up with some closing closing notes, but we're gonna be busy, man. Um, as were you last week. What was going on, dude? Uh so last week I missed the pod and uh had uh one of my best friend's birthday parties to go to. Had a good time, ate some good food, ruined my diet. You're foodie. Oh, yeah. I am a little footy. Uh we went uh we went to uh a uh little local like Italian place where they do all their own handmade pasta and stuff. It's called Fiorito. It's super good. If you're ever in Wichita, anybody listening, definitely check that place out. Really good food. Heck yeah. But uh then I had uh had a little match out at uh STC this past weekend, just uh regional match. Had good turnout, really nice weather. Did you shoot it or did you just host it? I just hosted it. I didn't have time to load the ammo last week. But uh we had a lot of fun. It was a good match. Guys shot really good. Wind was fairly cooperative and uh had a bunch of the Okies show up trying to get a trying to get a uh a peek at the range before Punisher. But uh I'm gonna share my screen. Let's take a look at the results from that match. Is this gonna surprise me? I haven't looked yet. Uh take a take a peeksies. It was uh peeksies. It was uh I I set up the course of fire to try to just search for yeah, STC. There you go. 425, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so uh I set up the course of fire to try to get through the the match relatively quickly because we had some potential storms coming in that evening. Okay. So and guys uh smoked it, shot really good. Josh Longhacker came in, dropped two. Wow. And one of his points was a timeout on a 10 position stage. And then he missed one shot. So nice. Yeah, couple of these dudes I think are signed up for this week. Yeah. Shooting matches either at uh at Justin's Okie or uh out east at uh MKM. I think Nick and Josh Taylor. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. Dang. Yeah. Oh Derek, what happened to Derek? Uh 10 points. He was too busy checking his hair in the mirror, I think. No, he he he shot fine. It was just uh there was just enough opportunity on some switchy wind to miss a few targets. So Yeah, that happens to the best of us, man. But yeah, it was a good time. It was fun, really fun match, really nice day. So I mean that was always good. 38 shoot. Yeah. Yeah. Not bad. Right on. No, that goes pretty quick. Eight stages, 38 dudes. Like you you gotta be ready to shoot, right? Yeah, I I had uh just five squads shooting eight stages, so there was still uh it was like s seven to eight man squads, so perfect. They had plenty of time to do what they needed to do, but it flowed flowed quick and uh nobody complained. There you go. Yep. I uh I flew out to California last week Wednesday and thought I was being smart. I'm like I took a like an 8 p.m. flight. I got uh maybe nine o'clock, I don't know. I got in out there at like one in the morning. And I'm not a I'm not an idol, and I just you know, as I get older, it gets worse. So got in there super late, drove up from Sacramento up to Williams, which is near our buckle where the match was, and um didn't get into like 1.30 Thursday morning, kind of slept in and went out and helped uh Dan Bertin set up the match. Well, yeah, waters and stuff like that. He was running ROs through and stuff. Um got to help a little bit with setup, you know, logistics and Friday, uh a little bit more setup, and then um zeroed my rifle. Um I man, I so I took a sportsman sportsman rifle out there. This is the MDT Hunter Challenge, it's the first pursuit match. Um I had had I took a Mark V that was mounted on something else, and I dropped it on a sportsman rifle that I knew shot well. Um and like I I had I think 150 rounds of clays ammo shooting 153A tips. I misspoke last week and I said 156. Joe Thielen, who's gonna listen to this and probably correct me again. It's 153a tips, I'm just gonna keep saying that. Um then I I I was on paper, I was off by like half a mil, dialed in the scope, sent two more, they were both touching. Like, cool set sent at 400, 800, like 1100, they all hammered, um, ready to go. Unlike our friend Josh Edget, who's not on the show tonight because he's tonight is Tuesday night, and he is doing everything he can to get ready for vortex mentions this weekend. And like, so can't make it, but he did send me a 10-round group that looked really good. Uh so you should do well this weekend. But he should post it online. I might post it online for him and tag date or Rick Reeves. I think if you post a forum, it's not bad uh bad GG, but I'm not sure. Yeah. Man, I you know, some guys take it super seriously, right? Where it's just like they gotta keep down when was the last time you changed your dope or seating depth or anything on you know, your powder charge, any of that for your dasher? Uh well, I did change my powder charge when I went to uh maybe two years ago. Yeah, when I went uh went to running back to running 28-inch barrels instead of 26's, but other than that, so you took a couple tenths out, right? Yeah, I mean that's it. Yeah, to get to the same velocity, and it's still hammers, right? Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah. I Josh is I haven't touched with seating with seating dye in years. Right. To clean it or adjust it or otherwise. Yeah. Josh is a tinkerer, man. He just he can't let well enough be alone. And you know, if it's not if it there's one shot out of ten that falls outside of uh you know point two group, like oh start over, throw that barrel in the trash. He spends a lot of time abusing himself.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

But man, I'll tell you what, I I um I chickened out on Friday at the match last weekend. I was gonna shoot Sportsman Division and just go go at it, you know, as an individual solo. And um I did I did get to watch a couple shooters because I had no idea what to expect. I got to watch a couple shooters shoot one stage as a as a uh as a team. It was like, yep, I'm I need a teammate. I 100%. I need I need a fallback plan. Um it turned out to be awesome. I shot with uh Jason Alvis from uh Arizona. We had a great time. We had a great time. You guys finished pretty strong, didn't you? We fin yeah, out of teams, I think there was like 18 teams, 20 teams, something like that, and we finished fifth. We actually um had uh I I had some issues with um my range finding binos, uh battery and connection and user error, I'm sure. Uh as Bob Hamilton would probably point out to me. Um did a reset on them, put a new battery in, and then we were good from like stage three on. Jason had some elevation issues, but man, I'll tell you what, like this there was a few stages that had positions like you would expect in PRS, and it felt just awesome. I mean, like a bag on a tree, and it was like set the bag down, run it in. Yeah, you know, bang, bang, move positions, bang, bang. Like that's it. That's the stage. Four shots, you know. Um we did clean quite a bit. Burdochini had a stage, you know, it's typically like near to far for uh you know, the NRL hunter format is like near to far or left right or right-left or you know, two, you know, or a four position single target, you know, but it's usually you, you know, max of four targets, and you engage them each um, you know, twice max. Well, he had a hang on one second. My dogs are licking each other and I'm sure it's picking it up on the mic.

SPEAKER_11

I can barely hear it. Like I need to I need to fix it. Sorry.

SPEAKER_06

Bertie King ran one stage that was it was like circle, circle, square, square, and uh, and you're supposed to shoot them near to far and then far to near. So one shot each, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight back. So it was actually eight shots. And it was uh it was awesome because as a as a team, we had six minutes. So Jason and I ran up there, we both find one, we both find two, he found four, I found three, and then we flip-flop, make sure our dope was good. And that took like 90 seconds, so we had, you know, we still had like four and a half minutes, which is usually for four engagements, right? Um, but this one was eight, you know, four out, four back. Um, tripod rear uh off of a off of a tree, bag on a tree. And um man, it just was awesome. Like we both cleaned it. Um, but it was like as fast as you can find it and shoot it. Um he's watch, he's right over my back, watching exactly where they're all going. I'm saying my win call before I take the shot. He's confirming it. Like, I don't know. It was just it was a lot of fun. It was it was a lot of fun to be able to, you know, like one to share that experience with somebody while you're on the clock and kind of panicked. You know what I mean? It was cool. Yeah, that sounds awesome. Dude, and the guys that so there's a handicap format to this, right? So if you show up with a you know a 13-pound, 6-5 creed more at 2650, like you come in at zero handicap. Now, I put a triple pull on mine, so I came in heavier than 13 pounds, which bumped me out of sportsman, but didn't matter. I was in teams anyway. Um, and Jason was also shooting a 6'5 Creed, like right around 13 pounds. So our handicap was basically nothing. Um, but Dane Lentz and uh Ryle, I forget Ryle's last name, the team that won the match both showed up with 300 normas that were like 10 pounds.

SPEAKER_11

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, so they they got a pile of handicap points to start with. And then as a team format, you can watch each other shoot. So really you need to build a good position, make a good trigger press, listen to your partner. Yeah. And 300 norma and eight mile an hour wins. Yeah, hold hold the edge and you know, out to a thousand yards, you know. You don't really yeah, you don't have to worry about it. Yeah. Um, but they just they dominated. So that got me thinking. That's an interesting strategy. I know. I want to build a light cannon and get a partner to build a light cannon, same caliber, same bullet, all same, same, same. And like, let's let's go do this, you know? Yeah, yeah, it'd be it'd be tough as an individual, but when you got your buddy spotting for you, that's just a huge difference. It is. I think that's a strategy. That's pretty cool. Yeah, it was it was cool. So really cool format. Um, the uh the pursuit series is gonna be a little bit more flexible than NRL Hunter, so we'll have the ability like that stage where it's one, two, three, four, and then four, three, two, one, eight, eight-round stage. Like we'll do we'll mix a bunch of those in, you know, so that um it's not just four rounds of stage. You know, if you clean it in four rounds, you're good to go. Like, no, you're taking eight shots this time, you know, max eight. But yeah. How did you guys do good uh, you know, identifying targets? Did you have any many in very many that you couldn't find? Or we um we had one stage that um so they they give you a a a stake in the ground, you go over that stake, and that's where you can spot them all from, and there's limits like a left and right limit. So you scan between those. And um we had one stage, and I always let him go right over the stake because I was gonna be the first shooter. So, you know, if there was any any problems identifying something, like he he could do that and coach me on stuff, whatever. So um Dan had it was four four prairie dogs, and straight in front of us was targets one and two, and we confirmed those. And then I saw a way to the left limit. I'm like, oh, there's a there's a dog over there, and I I laze it. You can ask CRO, like, hey, I'm lazing this at whatever, is that target four? No, that's not target four. I'm like, oh, that's well, no, he said it was target four. So we had one, two, and four. And the third one, we I mean, we kept scanning and scanning and scanning. Well, Jason was over top of the marker, he finally scanned way to the right and found it. But right before he did that, I was like, hey man, we're gonna save some time. I'm gonna start shooting. So I'm gonna engage one and two. We know where those are at. Hopefully you find three, you know, before we get too far into this. So I lay down, it's prone. Prairie dogs at you know, 300 yards or something like that. And I can spot my misses against a backstop. So I think I smoked one and two, and then he's like, all right, I got target three. And his dope was close enough to mine and a tall prairie dog, it doesn't matter. I was thinking our dope was a tenth different at 400. Um, he explained where it was. I moved my bipod, went over, engaged that, and then came back, engaged that, and it's like, man, that's pretty cool that like, hey, I'll keep looking, you just start shooting. Yeah, you know? That's awesome. Yeah, but that was the only one we were close on, and um, but we ended up finding all the targets. Yeah, Dan put them in reasonable locations, I'll say. Yeah. You know, where it's like, oh, there's probably one in that shadow, you know, or next to or whatever. So yeah. Did he put I was panicked about the most, so did he have everything like painted black or um gray with maybe a hint on the edge of what color the animal actually might be. Oh, okay. You know? So like a deer target might be light brown, but gotcha. It was light brown with gray impacts all over it. Yeah. Yeah. That sounds really f really freaking cool.

SPEAKER_11

What was the last what was the closest and furthest you guys had to shoot?

SPEAKER_06

Uh closest was a dog at like uh two seventy-five, I think, maybe. Um, and it was like right downhill. And then I our farthest was like eleven twenty, and it was uh it was a full-size deer. Yeah. Um and then he put out he had he had on that stage it was a big deer, like eleven hundred, and then like a a thousand fifty. Um yeah, like a bear that was pretty good size, and then a bear that was like I don't know, maybe twelve inches.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

You know, at like a thousand fifty, and you're you you're trying to range it, and you're like, oh I don't know, send it. But the way we me or Jason, we didn't even hit that target because wind was up and down. And at that range, I mean, even if you got the good wind call or like the your aerodynamic jump push you over under the target. So like we shot all around it. Four shots, but yeah. Yeah, it was good. We had a guy with a six arc bolt gun in our squad who shot really well. Um, you know, it was a reasonably weighted boat. I think he was around 14 or 15 pounds, and um he had a great time, but he he just started like a ways back in handicapped, so like he had a lot of ground to make up. But that's cool. I mean, you can like a six arc you I mean you can shoot prairie dogs with that, you can shoot D with a six arc, you know?

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and he was running at like one oh I think you said one oh five at twenty-seven fifty. Like that's not bad. Not any different than a BR, you know? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm looking I'm looking forward to your full match recap that you're gonna do with with with Dan and Rusty. Yep, and we're gonna bring uh Scott Satterley on too. Oh perfect. Yep, Scott, uh Scott was in our squad. Uh he was teamed up with Ryan McLean. The two of them had it figured out before the match. Like they built 6'5 PRCs that were launching 156s at like 3,000 or something. Cannons, light cannons. They that that was their strategy and it worked pretty well. I think they finished third. Um but uh as some people might know. I mean, Scott ran the first test match that developed in the NRL hunter. He he he ran it at Cameo, actually. Um, some of his targets were still out there when you and I were setting up for worlds. That's awesome. But yeah. So Scott's gonna probably run a match, but yeah, we're gonna bring him on. Four of us will talk about it. So Yeah. I wanna I might just sit in the corner and just listen. There you go. There you go and ask questions. Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, no, that's really cool. Really cool.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, we should uh where do we talk about doing one? Do it at uh Whittings Center new in New Mexico? Man, that'd be a good spot for it. That'd be cool. Yeah, I'd like to uh I'd like to get one at Twin Peaks. I just want to find somebody else to run it instead of me. I've already got enough. I've got a guy in mind, but I'm gonna make sure we get it first. Yeah. Yeah, let's talk about it. I I think Twin Peaks would be awesome because there's there's a lot of places you could hide targets. Oh yeah. You know? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and uh it's spread out enough that you know we could pull people back and stage them and all that stuff. Yep. Yeah, you just put 'em behind a vehicle or something like that, you know, and yeah, so they can't see what's going on. Yeah. Usually the RO struck or whatever. Yeah, it's fine. Yeah. Yeah, it should be fun. Uh I man, I can't wait to do more. I I was looking at other like team format matches, like sniper matches and stuff, and I'm like, yeah, it's I I I it was fun. You know, there's I think it takes a certain personality to do it with. Like I couldn't, I don't I couldn't do a team match with Missy. I would be, you know, I I'd I would turn into an asshole on the clock or whatever. But um I've only shot one. It was years ago, uh, at Spearpoint Ranch with with Derek Love. We teamed up. Yeah. It was really fun. We did good. We won, we won the thing. It was years ago, just a for fun match. Yeah. Yeah. It'd be cool if we could uh if we could figure out um a team format on a a PRS match that would make sense and still be able to count for points. I agree. Uh yeah, I I I think it would be fun. Um I'm gonna text uh I'm gonna text our buddy Austin Orgay and have him join us now. Yeah. Um yeah, I wonder how you could do it. I mean, it's kind of gotta be range and engage, right? For a team format, you know, where you're maybe it doesn't have to be range and engage, but you can spot for each other. I don't know if it has to be. That's something that we can talk about with uh Justin too, because he did the Battle of the States match, which was a squad-sized team. Right. And uh basically basically, you know, your whole squad was your team, and you just had a time limit for the whole team is like, I don't know, 15 minutes or something like that, or 20 minutes for the whole squad of eight or ten shooters or whatever to shoot the stage. Yeah, and gather gather as many impacts as possible. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And uh that's kind of a neat idea. That is cool. Would could you shoot at the same time? Uh no. No. One shooter at a time, but like basically you want to jump on as fast as possible. Yep. Speaking of, oh, yeah, this guy this guy was on the winning team when we were when we did that. Battle of the uh Battle of the States team match we were talking about. That was a lot of fun. That was a lot of fun. I remember uh watch watching you guys, the Okie Okie squad uh shoot the PRS tiebreaker, and it was the uh the three targets at 400 yards spread out later laterally.

SPEAKER_10

It it was so ridiculous how fast you guys did it. I got a vi I still got a video somewhere of that of us doing that all going through it. Yeah, I have to look back on my phone and do it. It was it was fun. What what I don't even remember what it was. It was like set six or seven of us shot at like a minute thirty seven or something. I think it was like two minutes and change, but it was still. I don't remember. I I'd have to look at the deal. It was just seems fast.

SPEAKER_06

But it's like the it it was like the cadence of the gunfire never stopped across multiple shooters. Oh, and that how did that one go? Were you you had to was it left to right, right to left? Yeah, yeah, left to left to right, right to left. Yeah. Left center, right to right center left. It was you m must hit the advance kind of a deal. Yeah. And I think it was unlimited rounds too, wasn't it? It was, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Good times.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Well, welcome, Austin. Man, you uh you you shot a tough match last weekend.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah. Yeah. That's uh first time I've been out in that crusher. It was a it was a good one. Is it really? Was it really? So, yeah, it's kind of funny. Uh, after day one, we got done shooting, uh I told a couple of guys, I said, I don't know what you guys don't like about this, you know, what what's so hard about this match, because almost every Central and West Region match in like 2016 and 17 was that hard or harder. It's just the matches have gotten so much progressively easier that nobody shoots those matches anymore. It seems extra hard. But I mean that was if you just shot the nail, you know, the heat stroke in 2016 or 2017, it was that match or harder.

SPEAKER_06

Those are my first two PRS matches right there. No joke. No joke. Um Paul Dalen shoots a lot. He he gets it, you know, and I think that's the type of match that he wants to put on, right?

SPEAKER_10

It is, and I I talked I told Paul that same thing. I was like, hey, you know, this was this is fun. This is what we used to shoot back in the day. And he said that's he said that's what I wanted to do. It's exactly what he wanted to do. He said that you know, he he he cut his teeth on doing that kind of stuff, and he wanted to, you know, kind of kick it back to the way it used to be and make a really hard match. He called it he called it the Nutcruster Light this year. So uh it it was it was only 18 stages, not 22. Uh I saw like a few little things and some stages changed, but it was a it was a tough match overall. It was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_06

Did he take out the off hand stage?

SPEAKER_10

No, okay. So yes, it was still there, but there was no gear restrictions. Uh so we used tripods. We used a tripod. Yeah, yeah. So it kind of it it made that stage substantially easier. We used tripods and uh we actually had two tripod staged. We went standing on one and then went kneeling on the other and kicked a leg out and went sitting. Uh, but then you had to shoot the buffalo balls uh three times in a row from two different positions, uh prone moving up. And and those those were small enough where they're for sure missible.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_06

How are the uh how are the conditions out there?

SPEAKER_10

It was we had really good weather day one. Um we didn't get a lot of wind. I think day one max is like, you know, 10, 11 miles an hour, something like that. Uh day two, the wind wasn't horrible, but we got some rain, we got some sleep, we got some snow, and then the sun would shine. Seriously. Beautiful. Oh, yeah. And then it'd be beautiful for about an hour. And then another little sail would come through and we'd get some sleep and some rain, and then that'd kind of clear off, and it was beautiful, and then coming in. So we had to stop a couple of times during the mass for for rain and sleep stuff, and couldn't see targets. We had to start a little bit late because there was some fog. Um, I think he had to make a little bit of an adjustment to one of the prone stages that was long range. We said I think he started like 1100 yards and had a thousand yard. He dropped the 1100,000 yard off because they were kind of up on the ridge and the fog was covering that whole ridge, so we couldn't see it. How long it'd take to burn off. So he added two more mid-range targets. We started at 900 and then kind of joved the way back in. Um, but really, I mean, honestly, I think that was probably better that it was wet like that. I know everybody said it could be really dusty and fine and powdery. And you know, uh for our second half on day one when we shot at the bottom, uh, it was super powdery and dusty and it was getting everywhere. So with that little bit of rain, it knocked all that dust down and it, you know, it wasn't bad. It wasn't like the mud here, it didn't stick to you real bad.

SPEAKER_06

Oh god. It wasn't bad at all. That's like high desert, right? Utah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. Um, I gave you and uh Bushman a little bit of grief Saturday night. You guys were second, third. I know you were second, I think, right? Both of you guys were trailing Mr. Travis Cohan. Yeah. Um who's the self-proclaimed Wienergazer.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, yeah. You got that message. Um believe it or not, Bushman got him talked into doing that for his name. So I I know I know nobody can believe that at all, but uh Bushman dubbed him the Wiener Gazer and uh he's he's just running with it. So uh I don't know if you know Travis or not, but he he's a young tanning, he's 17.

SPEAKER_06

He's uh he's a great shooter, he's a good kid too. Uh JTAC student?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, yeah, been through a JTAC class.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah. Took a second right behind you, it doesn't look like it's gonna be long before.

SPEAKER_10

And then Ben's Ben's has been.

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_10

And Bushman's got washed. So washed. I love washed. So Clay, uh Clay came up with uh or gaint that I thought would be a pretty good one. Yeah. And I I I thought used to be would be a good one, but used to be.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I love it. That's funny. Yeah, I mean, there was uh you guys had some heavy hitters. You know, it was a small match, I think just shy of 50 shooters, which you know, we'll I'll have to have a conversation with uh with Paul just to go over, like, man, like we need to get more shooters there. Um, I guess it now's a good time to start next year's promotion, right? Like if if we if we gotta get more shooters there, how do you do that?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, if you want to go learn some of your weaknesses and stuff like that, you you go there. So for one, it's a beautiful place. Uh there's a good place to stay in Price, they have plenty of hotels. Uh flying to Salt Lake, it's like a two-hour drive south. I think, you know, actually there was a little bit of an argument going on on Facebook on a on a thread on matches and attendance and stuff like that. And, you know, realistically, some of these matches that are harder to get to just probably aren't going to get the attendance. You know, we I think uh Chris Opfer chimed in on South Dakota. You know, it's kind of hard traveling to South Dakota because there's not a really good airport near or anything like that. And those are, you know, they're great matches. We're not taking anything away from the matches. They're in awesome locations. They're well ran, they're well direct, well match directed. You know, the stage designs are very thoughtful, the target designs are and sizes are very thoughtful. Um, they're really good matches. So I think it'd be a shame for that match to, you know, not get more shooters and go away. And he did make it easier. You know, Ben said that it was much easier than it was last year. The round count was down a little bit. Um, he had changed some of the stages, I think that were the harder stages last year. It made them a little bit easier. Uh so you know, if you're worried about really getting beat up, but at the same time, if you want to know where your weaknesses are, that's the match to go to because you're gonna get tested on all fronts of it. Okay.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I mean, looking at what you guys dropped, it looked like it was still plenty challenging.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, like I say, I mean, we I was down 27 and the win wasn't that bad. I mean, it was it it was a fairly tough course for fire. Um, I think he put some placards out on some of the targets that were hard to find, you know, in the in the years past. He had, you know, like you said, it was nut crush or light, so uh there was a few things that sounded like were a little bit easier. Uh, but I'll go back out and shoot it. Um again, I thought it was really fun. I thought it was a real super fun match to give shoot. And uh that range that was on, it's kind of out in the middle of nowhere. It's really pretty. That high desert, you got all the big cap rocks around you in the big maces. Um, you get not really a lot of high angle shooting, but you could get into some high angle shooting, you know, in certain parts of that range.

SPEAKER_06

So nice. Any comments on our buddy Bushman? I mean, where did he where did he screw up so bad?

SPEAKER_10

So on day one, there's a stage where you it was a holder only. You couldn't touch your turrets once the time started. So you had to dial your whatever target you're gonna dial. Uh, but the the way it was is you shot uh your your your movement was you had to shoot strong side, strong side, weak side, move over a little bit, move targets and go weak side, weak side, strong side. Move again, strong side, strong side, weak side, move again, weak side, weak side, strong side. Well, he didn't really read this the uh stage description that well. So when he went up, he went strong side, strong side, weak side, went to the next ar and went to strong side, strong side, weak side. He never switched over and did it the opposite way. So he hit all the targets, but he only got a six because it only worked on two of the target arrays uh that he hit because he is an idiot and didn't read the the matchbook. And so he cost himself six there. Uh he got beat up pretty bad on beat up pretty bad day two on a on a on a kind of a prone stage. The prone stage was kind of on the side of a hill. He had to be between this uh stick and a bush, so he could only really had one place to put a bipod down. It was very awkward. He was a little bit earlier in the stage, so he kind of had to figure out that you had needed a lot of bipod for a couple of targets and no bipod at all for a couple others. So uh I think he timed out and dropped seven on that one or something. Um checked really well other than that. He just uh kind of shot himself in the foot a couple times.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I mean that's kind of the di I mean he finished fifth, but that's really the difference between a fifth and a second, you know. Yeah. Yep. He had uh, I mean, Sean was there, good shooter, Ben, Austin, Ryan Bannigan does well, Anthony Collie.

SPEAKER_10

Anthony shot in our squad, he shot really well. Anthony shot really well day one. I think he was only he was either tied with me or one only one point behind me on day one.

SPEAKER_11

Yep.

SPEAKER_10

Yep, and then just kind of slowly got beat up on a few stages. I don't remember him really tanking any one stage. I think it was just a little bit throughout the day, uh dropping here and there.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I mean, with only 18 stages and he's down almost 40, you're dropping two to three per stage. You know? Exactly.

SPEAKER_10

So we did we we did a little uh friendly draft on this one to see who we thought would win is meet, me, Bushman, and Ben. And so we automatically said, okay, we pick ourselves and then we pick the others. And uh my guys that I drafted, I think I won by 97 points over their guys that they drafted. So man.

SPEAKER_06

That's a good time.

SPEAKER_10

So it was a really good we had all kinds of good bets going on this weekend. So you get this. I uh it was one of those deals where you just know it's your weekend. So I won the match. I won the draft there, I won the draft in Texas. Nice. And then we did uh after day one, we went up, Ben wanted to check his zeros, so we all got our guns out and shot a zero, and we were gonna do who had the best three-round group and who could get the closest to their three-round average velocity. Okay. And I did not win the group. To guess your velocity? Yeah, yeah. The closest to guess their velocity and on average velocity of three rounds. So I didn't win the group. Uh not even close. Both of those guys were shooting dashers, they shot really well. But uh, I think I'd I guessed 2671, and my average velocity, three shot velocity, was 2670.4. So I'd got them handily on that one.

SPEAKER_11

Yep. Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

And price is right. Uh yeah. Well, what's bad is I I sit on a on a concrete bench and I shot my gun, and it was a terrible group. It was like a tenth and a half group, and I was like, well, I don't feel like I shot that that today. It felt because I hit all the small targets and I was like, oh, I feel like I'd shoot better than that. So I laid down on the ground and I was like, I gotta try it again and shot this little bitty tiny group. I was like, okay, we're good.

SPEAKER_06

So then I didn't have to worry about it all night for day two. Would it actually worry you?

SPEAKER_10

No, because there's nothing you can do about it now anyway. You know, at that point, at that point, it's not like I can go change my load or change my ammo. I'd have just had to try to forget it and you know, actually get a little sleep that night. Not worry about it.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, you're I mean You're shooting the 25.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, 2547. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So so far I've tried to remap with that this year, even uh Mississippi, which you know, a lot of ballistics advantage needed there, you know. But they've been shooting really good. I've got two barrels. Uh I actually ran my backup rifle here. Uh I thought it was one of those deals, you know, it felt like I had a Hummer barrel for that first uh barrel, and I wanted to save it for later in the year, even the finale. And so I just went to my backup rifle, did a little quick load development. I was like, huh. Maybe it's not really a Hummer Barrel and it's just as good. Yeah, shoot just as good. So I got two good barrels running and lots of bullets. So I'm excited for the year.

SPEAKER_06

There you go. Heck yeah. What's the next one, man?

SPEAKER_10

Uh Cole Canyon.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_05

Cole Cole Canyon. Decide you're gonna make it for sure. Well, we get to.

SPEAKER_10

You can fly there, right? Yeah, so so this is what I did last year is we have T-ball. T-balls are Friday nights. Um so what I did last year is I went before the game, loaded the plane, had the plane sitting on the ramp, and uh as soon as the game was over, I just left the game, jumped in the airplane, flew over and played, picked me up. You know, we gained an hour going over there, so I think it's like a two-hour to two-hour, 30-minute flight depending on the wind. And so I can make it over there, you know, 10 o'clock ish after the C-ball games and still be fine. So as long as the weather's okay, I'm planning on doing that. If the weather's not okay, I'll have to make a decision whether I'm gonna drive all night over there or just skip out. So we'll see. But, you know, the way it stands now, the only way to improve my scores with a qualifier. So but uh cold canyon qualifier, Hornady's a qualifier, those are what I'm planning on for my next two. So good deal.

SPEAKER_06

Beaver, excuse me here, but when is uh when is Box Canyon? Or uh not Box Canyon, Cole Canyon. Cole Canyon, it is the uh last weekend of May. Yeah. Uh 30th and 31st. Okay. And it has been sold out twice now. That's that's the question I was gonna ask. Yeah. Yeah. We sold out at 120, and then we had a bunch of people hitting us up, so we just kinda kept padding, and now we're at 130, and that's it.

SPEAKER_10

No mouth. That one's a that one's a pretty good example of it's kind of crappy to travel to because there's not an airport real close. But it's it's I I think Clay said it in the comics and the deal. It's there's a few things that drive Matt's attendance. One's good mass directing and good good course design. Um one is the ease of travel, and and another one is the destination. And that's a Raton's a really good destination place, and it's nice in the mountains, especially especially by then. It's really hot, you know, in most of the states and Oklahoma and everything else. You can go out to Raton. The weather's usually pretty nice. You know, you might have a light jacket on in the morning and get away from the heat a little bit and and shoot in a cool place. Plus, it's you know, Beaver does a good job on course design. It's a lot of fun to shoot it.

SPEAKER_06

Well, I gotta give most of the credit to um the course fire on that one for to Derek. I just help I I just help out on that one. We we collaborate, of course, but it is mostly his his course.

SPEAKER_10

We don't want to give any credit. Come on.

SPEAKER_06

Hey, give it give credit where credit's due. It's a really cool match.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Heck yeah.

SPEAKER_10

He shot the shoot the other day.

SPEAKER_06

I shot the, what was it, 2021? One twenty-one, twenty-one was the finale there. Yeah, I really like shooting there. That was it was fun. It seemed for Wisconsin guy. It was great weather. Well, yeah, you won, yeah, you won that year, didn't you? Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

That's one of my favorite matches ever. Yeah, but just I'm only slightly biased.

SPEAKER_06

Well. It's hard not to have a good time when you're up in beautiful mountain scenery like that, you know?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_06

And it's really it's a really challenging match, too, just because a lot of the firing line is is, you know, wooded and protected from the wind, and you have to you what you read on your kettle is a lot of times meaningless.

SPEAKER_10

It's just about Yeah, you know, it's it's usually in that valley like that, we usually don't get big winds, it's just switchy winds. No, yeah. I remember I remember one year we shot there and the and the weather forecast was like 30 and 40 miles an hour, and I thought, wow, this is gonna be really hard, at least shooting through this canyon and stuff with that kind of wind, and really that it was protected enough by the other mountain that we weren't seeing any kind of near that much wind in the in that valley, but it was just, you know, it it'd come from two o'clock and it'd switch around and come from eleven o'clock, and it's switchy head when going on makes it really tough.

SPEAKER_06

Yes. I we're usually around the 12 to 15 mile an hour mark out there. I think we've seen up to 20 a couple of times, but it's uh it's just fighting the mountain updrafts and and switchiness. That's uh, yeah.

SPEAKER_10

A few of those stages where it shoot up up the hill, it's really hard to tell whether you're gonna need to hold a lot to fire it hold low or not. Yeah, you watch you watch four or five guys have super big elevation problems there and the window down a little bit and everybody just s you know spot on. So there's a little bit of a little bit of trickiness to that.

SPEAKER_06

Hey, how do you uh Austin, how do you feel about hanging out for a little while tonight? You wanna hang out?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, still. One kid's at uh grandma and grandpa's the other one's at home, probably get put to bed. So here I am.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you're you're at the shop?

SPEAKER_10

Yep, send her to the shop.

SPEAKER_06

Right on.

SPEAKER_10

I was gonna go out to the uh out in the main part of the shop and set up a little deal and and get it because uh I was gonna walk by all my trophies that I got set up in here, and Bushman's got all his trophies set up in the back in the back part of the building. It's a lot of trophies down there. It's a lot of trophies, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

What'd you do with the one from this weekend? I got it. All right, here you want you y'all want to keep that? Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it. That would be perfect. Pete's coming on soon. Let's uh let's do this.

SPEAKER_10

Hey, I need to talk to you at some point, not necessarily tonight too. I have a I have a pitch idea to you.

SPEAKER_06

Right on. Sounds like Beamer's dog's at it again. Yep. He's thirsty.

SPEAKER_11

He's got the water bowl, right? It's literally right. I guess I'm gonna have to move it for podcast next time. There's the new ones there.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, yep. Jeez, oh Pete, that's a lot of trophies. A couple NRLs.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, and then Bushman. Yeah, we got some old inner. That's the oh that's the year I won. No, that's not the year I won NRL. Yeah, I got the one I got second and third at the NRL, and then the one out the first year they had it fit all on up there.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_10

You know, I just had them all stacked up in the dang uh reloading room, and I was like, you know, nobody sees them here. I might as well go put them somewhere. And then so Bushman got the idea. I can walk back here and show you they can show you all his. He's got most of his. He had his like just stacked outside next to the barn on the ground, the weather. He brought them here and we had to actually get the water hose and hose them all off because they were so dirty.

SPEAKER_11

We got what you got you got the gold.

SPEAKER_10

Out there too? No, they're at the house. Yeah, I told Bushman we have to. Yeah, I told Bushman we should like set up a a little stand or something in the office and put all our all our bullets in there. Again, I mean, the house they just sit there and collect dust.

SPEAKER_06

Yep. Yep. Speaking of collecting dust, no, I'm just gonna do it. Keith Russell. Welcome to the show, but oh man.

SPEAKER_11

Oh Keith, you still with us?

SPEAKER_06

Yes, sir. Okay, there we go. There we go. A little bit of lag. Uh, that's all right though. Man, it was like the first week that we didn't go through pick-ums, and I didn't select Keith, and then you go and win a damn match.

SPEAKER_09

The one time.

SPEAKER_10

What's funny is I I had Keith and Kale.

SPEAKER_06

No, no joke.

SPEAKER_10

He did Snake Draft. Oh yeah, yeah, we did Snake Draft. I got the new line and I I got Keith and Kale.

SPEAKER_06

Keith, I I did have you in the in uh we have a pick em league that's stick. Yeah, oh yeah. Yeah, I had and you know what's also funny is um only Coulter and me had Coulter. And Coulter was tied for the lead after day one.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, Coulter shot well. Yeah, he shot well while he finally got away from Tat.

SPEAKER_06

Exactly.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, did he know if he shot his 25? He shot a 2547.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, he did he just got that barrel from us not too long ago. He sent me a picture of some groups the other day and said, Man, this thing shoots really good. And I said, Don't we send in group pictures before a match? That's always a good way to make you shoot that.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah. We were just talking about that earlier. We were, but man, congrats on the first win this year. You well, I'm assuming you were shooting at 25 as well.

SPEAKER_09

Yep, I was shooting my 25 Creed. Pop riding it, of course. Shooting like 3,000 feet per second? 2950. Oh.

SPEAKER_06

That's all. That's what the barrel guys want to use.

SPEAKER_09

Chronograph 80 rounds, and I had an ES of 8.5 and FD at 2.1, so over 80 rounds.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's pretty well.

SPEAKER_09

Two matches in a row, uh, Kale was like, that was pretty good numbers, and he had like a nine-shot group, and I was like, Yeah, so is this one? Check this one out. He's like, I fucking hate you.

SPEAKER_10

How many of how many of those did you have to delete?

SPEAKER_09

Did you actually shoot a hundred to get to 80 shot yes and delete 20 of that? Uh like I was even surprised whenever I went back and like made it show what the average and the SDs and the S's was. I was like, oh shit.

SPEAKER_10

I need to know what your leader reloading process is.

SPEAKER_05

You look like a F class guy or something.

SPEAKER_09

No, I'm pretty animal. Like everything's pretty much perfect. You've been shooting twenty five.

SPEAKER_05

I you've been shooting twenty five probably longer than anybody, haven't you?

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, um eight years. Yeah, so I did the it was like whenever Blackjack uh first came out, like I was able to get on their test one of their tested guys.

SPEAKER_05

So I've been shooting it since day one. So right on. So let's talk about the match.

SPEAKER_06

What um the January match, which you were there, right? The um uh Little Paul Steel Classic. Yep. Yep. Uh you uh you were there. That was actually a a fairly challenging course of fire, I think uh Prentice put on there.

SPEAKER_09

The course of fire was pretty much the same. It really wasn't much difference uh as far as target concern sizes. Uh wind was what was uh uh different at this match. So this match we had a headwind uh at this match. This one was just a clock wind. Yes, I would say six to nine miles an hour, but most of the time it was pretty just it was just steady. Like um, but we I mean we were holding three to four tents at three hundred and fifty yards, so I mean we had some wind.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Nice and steady though.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Especially for uh what uh 135 at you said 2950? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

That's but even at my gun, I was still holding at 350 yards, I was still holding three tents. You know. I had a few stitches where I was holding the mill at seven hundred yards, you know, uh and seven and eight hundred yards, but other than that, it was just steady, so I mean you didn't really have to worry about uh being blown off the plate if you were hitting center.

SPEAKER_06

Yep. Yep. Man, only dropping three on the weekend. Where did you end up dropping them?

SPEAKER_09

Uh so I dropped um one on the stage two, second stage of the match. Uh Kale had uh after the stage one, uh Kale was like, hey man, you you're catching the bottom of the plate. You got lucky on that last stage, and he was like, You need to go check your goat. And so I just put a 110 correction in my Kestro and I was like, ah, I can't be that far off. I just checked you know, I just zeroed my gun that morning and uh went to the next stage, and it was a KY racket 650. And uh I hit the one MOA plate the first go-through, and then the second time coming through, I missed it. And then after that, I hit my zero and uh sure enough I was two tenths low. After that, shot great, and I think I missed dropped one other point uh shot on another K Well rec on stage six. I don't even remember dropping I did, and then uh dropped one on stage twelve. Uh stage twelve I dropped one, and that one was just because I double tapped the last target. I didn't wait for it to quit moving. I shot and that target moved right out of the way right when it got to the target, and I was like, God dang it, so uh almost threw away the match.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, three drops.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, yeah, it was and then day two, uh it was like our second to last stage. Um I got lucky, I had two shots back to back, hit the hanger bolt, and the next one went right above it about a a quarter of an inch from going over the top of the target. And uh I was like, uh, like one of them didn't even hardly wiggle the the plate didn't even hardly move. You just saw the white uh smoke from the bullet blowing up on the target, that's all you saw. Okay, I thought I missed, and uh they called impact, and Kale goes, You gotta look.

SPEAKER_05

Man.

SPEAKER_09

And then uh he shot right before me on the last stage, and uh I was I was sweating it because that stage that stage one that we finished on was the stage that I bought on back in January when I I dropped seven on that stage. That's exact same stage in Janu in January.

SPEAKER_06

So you guys shot back to back going in that final stage?

SPEAKER_09

He was like three or four, he was two or three people in front of him.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_09

So but I knew he he had cleaned it, so I knew I was gonna, I was like, oh great.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, now you gotta clean it. But you had him on tiebreaker, right? Yep, yep.

SPEAKER_09

Um, and it's highbreaker performances on the PO skill stage.

SPEAKER_05

Um let's see here.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, he where is Kale? Kale had well 66 seconds, so he took his time. Yep. He's he still banaged to win the fastest stage, too.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, yeah, it's odd to win the fastest time on the on the tiebreaker stage and win the match.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_10

Well, throw caution to the win. Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

No, I keep this isn't your first time. Is it so hard to get Kel to go for it? Because I went first on that stage on day two. That was I went first. And so after I ran it, I was like, all right, so you can do it. You can get in the 40s, and he was like, I am not throwing my match away to peach you on a skill because I ain't doing it. Yeah, he was like, that if I lose this match, he goes, That'll be a sad ride home. He goes, I'll be pissed. So I couldn't talk him into doing it.

SPEAKER_11

Well, yep. But he did he did lose it. Yeah. Yeah, technically I mean, pretty dang close, but yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah. He has just that's all right.

SPEAKER_06

He probably doesn't regret regret regret it. I mean gambling on going faster than what you're comfortable with on the skill stage doesn't usually work out.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, Cale's more wanted to be perfectionist than at speed, so that's why he's a lot of COT, you know. He's a higher right now.

SPEAKER_05

Was that the uh big small variation?

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, so yeah, big small yeah, big small at 407.

SPEAKER_05

What um what's the next one you signed up for?

SPEAKER_09

KM.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. Stick it in the southeast.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, then I think I got Pig uh I got like seven or eight more cases to go.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah. I think Pig River, then Twisted Barrel and Indiana and uh uh Alabama, and then maybe one more in August. I haven't decided yet.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I could uh I mean KM, you usually shoot pretty well there too, right?

SPEAKER_09

Uh not really. That that place may like my Keeley's Hill, and I just for some reason don't shoot well there for some reason. I'll start off I would start off really bad there for some reason, and then I'll finish up good, but yeah. I'll start off with like ones and twos for some reason.

SPEAKER_06

Actually I think the last time you and I shot at a match together we were both shooting production. We were shooting production together.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, you beat me, yeah, and beat me by two points. Well one point I can't remember. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Take it. That's like the only win I've ever had of any sort of significance.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Right on.

SPEAKER_10

I just because I was curious. I wanted to know where 27 drops would land you at Texas. 27 at there. And so 27 drops was 54th place in Texas.

SPEAKER_06

A third of the way down. Yeah. A little bit different match. Yeah. Yeah, very different.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, I mean, it was very deceiving because like uh I mean uh a lot of people thought that it was like a called like, oh, it must have been a pretty big meatball match. I was like, man, no, it wasn't. The like the one that Bushman won was like a that was a meatball match.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah Yeah, we through that match we shot several like four and five MOA targets, six MOA targets. Yeah. The one that Bushman did.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, I would say on average, most of the targets were four to five inches, four to five tenths.

SPEAKER_10

Uh four or five tenths so yes, that's that's about that's pretty appropriate. It's about right. I think that's right.

SPEAKER_09

And it it literally was just I think people did well because the wind was steady. Like it wasn't gusting, it wasn't going up and down, it wasn't a tailwind. Like in January it was a tailwind and it was eating everybody. Yeah. Like you'd be going you would be holding four or five tenths in a stage and you'd move and then you'd be holding straight up. You know, so it did that night was definitely a lot harder feeded than one.

SPEAKER_05

Mm-hmm. Yeah, meatball conditions.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah. Meatball conditions. Wasn't quite the case at Box Canyon this or was it, Pink?

SPEAKER_06

No, it never is there. Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Well, except for when we host the finale there and we get meatball conditions.

SPEAKER_11

Well, yeah.

SPEAKER_10

One time that's the only time I've ever shot there that there hasn't been quite a bit of wind.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's the only time I've ever shot at Box Canyon is at the finale. How'd you do there?

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, nah, it uh I was shooting okay until I got to Tate's map Tate stage and then it was like I think after that it was pretty bad.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

But yeah, you know me and uh what was it, Matt Online? Like I had we were kind of neck and neck and then but Doug Conan he had an awesome match, he was destroying us that match. Like it would have been an even bigger ass whooping if he wouldn't have he kind of bombed the last stage of the match. Uh but other than that, he he destroyed us.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. That's right. Doug actually won production there? Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I thought it was Matt too because I can't remember.

SPEAKER_06

One of them wanted what I end up remembering is when Matt came up on stage and tried to make out with me in front of everybody.

SPEAKER_09

Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_06

Was that there though? Was that that finale? Pretty sure it was that that finale.

SPEAKER_10

I don't remember.

SPEAKER_09

No, that was the Neto, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_06

I don't know. I don't remember. I'm fixing to pull up the scores on track. You probably had a practice score on your phone yet, right? Yep, I sure do. Yeah, you're looking back at that particular match. Sure do. Yep.

SPEAKER_11

Let's see.

SPEAKER_06

What's uh what's your plan, Keith? Are you shooting production uh this year? Are you shooting open? No, I won't shoot production. Sportsman again.

SPEAKER_09

No, no, I think I'm uh I'll probably maybe do that next year now. I'm shooting like I was talking to Gossett and he says I'm a moron to try to shoot uh sportsman this year with me shooting uh pretty consistently in open this year. Okay. He was like he doesn't need to chase the a bullet this year. So I'm probably probably what I'm gonna do.

SPEAKER_06

You shot sportsmen in two matches now, right? One. Oh, just one. What uh what happened there? It was pretty tough, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it was it was it was bad.

SPEAKER_09

The the butt uh I shoot on my collarbone, and I had taken gutted the inside of my um recoil pad out to shape some more weight just to make sure I was within weight. Yeah. And uh on those butt pads, there's a plastic ridge that forms it, and that thing was digging into my collarbone, and it had put a huge ass bruise on my collarbone. And it got to the point where I literally could not touch my uh the gun to my shoulder, it hurt so bad. The tent and I was like, man. Yeah, oh it it was bad, it hurt for a week. Nice.

SPEAKER_10

And uh one of those old guys that puts the puts the padded the external padded deal on like stress. Yeah, the leather, the leather over. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

I was like, I'll shoot sportsman like every two months. So um I was talking to Phil about it and he uh he goes, Why don't you just put a yoga mat on there? So I ripped the uh pad on and yoga mad and traced it out and stuck it on there and glued it on there, and it it's great now. It's okay. It's comfortable. I like I actually took it to I was planning on actually shooting it at Texas. So I actually brought it. I just by the time we got there, it was so late because we drove 15 hours straight.

SPEAKER_05

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_09

Uh left after work on Friday at three o'clock or Thursday I left at three o'clock and drove 15 hours straight to Texas, and then I ended up not waking up until later.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_06

Um Keith was right, by the way. It was Doug at the finale. He he finished uh top production at the match, but I think Iwine must have won the season or something.

SPEAKER_09

Iwine won the season. That's what it was.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_09

Because he beat us by I think 11 points. It was it was a pretty big yeah.

SPEAKER_11

Doug uh he finished, I think it looks like it was 18th overall.

SPEAKER_05

There you go. There you go. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And the year before, uh yeah. The year before uh Allwine finished second out there in Idaho.

SPEAKER_09

That was yeah, that one uh there, like uh me and Allwine shot together back to like back to back.

SPEAKER_05

Yep.

SPEAKER_09

And same squad. Going into stay uh going into day two, he was beating me by two. And after stage three on day two, I was w I was up on him by four. Oh shit. Because he dropped points on his first couple stages, or first stage or something. Um we started on stage ten, I think, where you're shooting off the rocks back to the into the sun.

SPEAKER_06

You just described every stage out there off the rocks into the sun.

SPEAKER_09

It was shooting it. Uh and uh after that, he never dropped a single shot after that. Like I like he just put on a show and he just like I just was dropping five, drop five, drop five, drop five, drop five. Every single every single stage after that, I dropped five on every man. Yikes. And then like working really good together. And I remember one stage, I think it may have been the skill stage, and we were talking about the wind calls because the wind just would had picked up to like 20 miles an hour or more. And he was like, This, and I was like, Well, man, I'm getting this. He goes, No, you need to do this. So I did what he said, and then he goes, Yeah, that's actually what I would have done is what you originally wrote down. That's what I needed. That's an online move. Yeah, yeah. So I was like, you know, I was like, Well, I'm glad I can contribute to you cleaning the rest of the day.

SPEAKER_11

Yep. Yep. Too funny.

SPEAKER_06

Man, well, I hope uh I hope we can get you back on here again this year. Um, I'm gonna keep I'm gonna keep betting on you, especially if you're hanging out in the southeast. I think you'll do well, man.

SPEAKER_01

That southeast with the fast way far.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, no joke, right? I mean to leave the plate.

SPEAKER_09

I know I need to try to get up to the sum of the West Coast map. You do need to are you uh take a Venus five. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_06

And you need to you need to get in a plane once in a while, not you know, drive 15 hours, you know.

SPEAKER_09

Man, is why I looked at getting a flight, but with all the fuel prices, it was astronomically expensive. I mean, I tried to get a flight to go to Hornady. I was thinking about going to Hornady, and uh plane ticket right now was a thousand dollars.

SPEAKER_05

Bad.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, no, that that's how it was the Salt Lake. That was to fly into Salt Lake.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, it's high. It's always high flying into Salt Lake in general for whatever reason, but it's really high right now. That's what we were talking about. We might get two of us and throw in my plane and try to fly out to Hornady. It's a pretty good haul, but I've done I did it a few years ago and took the family with me and we flew all the way out there, so it's kind of pretty.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah. Now I'm waiting for Caro to get his own plane so he can fly me around.

SPEAKER_10

There you go. Time hurry up, y'all come pick me up in it.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, kidding. Yeah. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Well, man, uh I appreciate you coming on. Good luck the rest of the season, and uh, we'll talk to you soon, hopefully.

SPEAKER_09

All right, sounds good. Thanks for having me. Congrats, Keith.

unknown

Thanks.

SPEAKER_06

Matt Steiner, welcome back to the show. We had you on uh this is week 13, so 12 weeks ago, bud. We gave all the updates and rules.

SPEAKER_08

Good deal. Good deal. Welcome to be back, guys. Thanks.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, heck yeah. Um, Matt's directing the Vortex Vengeance this weekend with uh your other two partners, Ken Sinowski, Mark Vasenski, right?

SPEAKER_08

That is correct. We're super excited. We've got another uh full slate, 173 on the docket right now for guys competing. So we've been very blessed over the last couple years with having having that number in the upper 160s plus. Yep.

SPEAKER_06

Yep. Well, you get you guys put on a good match. You do a really good job there. Austin, you've been out there to shoot that, haven't you?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, I went there, what was that, two years ago? I think so.

SPEAKER_08

Was it the uh AG Cup or was it the uh USPRA qualifier?

SPEAKER_06

Oh I don't care the A G Cup. I think it was the AG Cup, you guys went. That was a that was a tough, tough match, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_11

Wasn't that the one that Clay won?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, Clay won that one. There was a ton of mental, a ton of positional, a ton of like you if you took a stage off, or if you if your mind cut off for 20 seconds, I talked with Preston about this after the match. He goes, I stopped thinking for like 20 seconds and I dropped 10 points.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, it was that that was another one. It was a fun match. It was a good challenging match. And what was crazy to me up there is like we had wind, but you were kind of shooting in those tree lanes, so you didn't really have to hold that much wind on there. But I felt like you guys did a really good job of still making a challenge with target sizes and target sequence and position and time and stuff. It was a really good mix to all of it. I I had a good time up there when I went. I need to come back up there. I need I need to try to plan that for next year and come back up and shoot that match again. Or this fall, yeah. Or summer, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I don't think that's possible too.

SPEAKER_06

Should be good. See, so I've shot quite a few of your matches, and this I I don't think I've ever shot a match that had more sequence type stuff than what you guys put on. Is that uh still the game plan for this? You know, a lot of sequence stuff?

SPEAKER_08

It's not. I mean, we ran so we ran the room fire finale, what, three years ago, four years ago?

SPEAKER_06

Uh 2023, yeah.

SPEAKER_09

And that was the predecessor to that AG cup qualifier with a lot of sequencing, a lot of mental stuff, and tested every aspect of the shooter going into that.

SPEAKER_08

And, you know, we got a lot of good good feedback from that room fire match, and then we ran it at the AG Cup qualifier, and all the top-tier shooters loved it. And the guys in the mid-pack are like, this isn't necessarily what I want. Uh, we had a couple guys that didn't come back for day two, and it took me instantly to when I used to go up to Canada and shoot Ryan McLean's match in Ontario. Yeah, and like it was funny. Like, we would get there and it'd be like me and Preston and Hip and Sanoski and Baker, uh Justin Miller at the time, and we'd get out of the truck and the Canadians are go, Oh crap, the Americans are here. And it was crazy that year, I think we brought eight people and there was eight of us in the top ten.

SPEAKER_06

That's cool.

SPEAKER_08

And uh, you know, it was traditional that like 25 guys wouldn't show up for day two just because it would just beat them up so bad. So yeah, I mean, we took that that AG Cup qualifier. I mean, I think it was a good match, it's a solid match, but we started to dial back away from the mental stuff. Uh and I want, you know, we've been working on just testing shooters as shooters. We want it to be precision rifle, not shoot fast and think fast on the fly and and challenge you at every aspect of the, you know, of the match. So make it cut and dry. And I think with the impact scoring updates that you get as a match director at the end of the match, um it gives you a ton of feedback. And I mean, uh, you know, both you know, you and uh Austin have shot our yellow gate range. It's the range when you first enter the property, it stretches to 1120. Um, it gets shot twice a year. We don't run it at one days, we don't run it at you know anything else, members don't have access to it. So it just sits there dormant and it does a lot of different things. And when we ran the match last year, our Peterson match, we we looked at the data and there was one stage I thought it would have been super simple. It was position one, you shoot target one and two. Uh then you go to position two and you shoot target two and three, then three and One a traditional, but it was a near to far. And it started at like 680 and finished at eight something. And it accumulated it accumulated like 350 plus uh non-shots. So failures failure to engage. Like like they didn't take the shot, timeouts, if you would. And I'm like, well, we can't have this. You know, shooters want to go out and they want to at least pull the trigger. They want to, they don't, they don't want to time out. So we kind of I looked at that, you know, and I kind of just looked at how we could make it better and you know, allow shooters to not time out, get frustrated with stuff. Because unfortunately, that side of the property gets a ton of mirage because you can't set a target under 650. Okay. So it goes 650 to 1120. Um, I think we kind of took a little bit of a playbook or some plays from uh Clay's playbook about target distance and round count. So everything is a 10-round stage. I mean, that way there's no headaches, there's no confusion. It's like, oh, he got me here, got me there. Um, we kept everything under, we have one, two engagements at a thousand. We have a couple that right in that 990, 980, 970 range as well, but nothing peaks over that. We try to keep everything in that five to eight hundred range for the most part. Um and then outside of that, it's just keeping the position simple, the mental stuff. There's no crazy mental you know movements. It's you know, we want to test you as a shooter. What's your part time? One 105.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I like that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

105 it's a good medium.

SPEAKER_06

I think so.

SPEAKER_08

Agreed. I mean, I looked at a lot of the stuff. I I mean you guys all know Sanoski, and he likes to throw out tiny targets and like hurt everybody's feelings and all this stuff. And I mean, you can't fault him for that because he's a really good shooter and he still hits them. Um but I looked at him and I said, hey, I hung these targets up, and you're gonna look at him, you're gonna be like, Jesus God, these are so huge. And when I told him, I go, I go, just just bear with me here. It's six tenths and four tenths at seven seventy. And I think that's a fair big small at one point. Oh, absolutely. But here's the here's where it's gonna blow your mind. It's a 16-inch circle and a 12-inch circle at 770 equates to that six tenths, four tenths. It tensions.

SPEAKER_06

Those are big circles. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But when you get mirage, when you get some wind that you don't know because you don't shoot that range ever. I mean, I think it presents a challenge that's different than you know, and I like it.

SPEAKER_05

I like it. Um you guys want to do a snake draft on this? What?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, what? I gotta see who's there picking for the I So Yeah, let's do it. Uh hold on. You know, I Beamer and I went through and kind of kind of culled this. So we I don't want to say called because that sounds bad, but we um pulled because we we pulled names. We pulled a lot of a lot of suspects. Yeah, prospects. There you go, not suspects. Um does this look right? Yeah, it looks pretty good.

SPEAKER_08

Like Winkler and Heckler have shot really well there in the in the recent past. Oh, easy, easy, don't go giving all this away, right? My bad.

SPEAKER_06

Yep.

SPEAKER_05

I'm just I'm throwing the I'm gonna throw an order out right now. Can you guys see my screen all right?

SPEAKER_06

Let's see uh and I think you know there are some there's a couple semi-pros in here. Um Can you make it a little bit bigger? Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_11

Uh please.

SPEAKER_10

We're getting glasses on, old guy.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, are you on your phone?

SPEAKER_11

No, I'm on my laptop.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, good. So here's here's what we'll do. As you guys say a name, we'll just pull it, pull it under under yours. Can you guys see that alright?

SPEAKER_05

Yep. Yep. Okay. Uh Siner, you go first.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, I think this is looking at that, it's I mean, no, don't you gotta take your boss first, don't you? You gotta take your boss. Uh that's it. I'm not gonna I I'm gonna have to do I'm gonna have to work on Thursday now instead of being at the range. I think it's gonna be a Dave O. I think Dave O's my number one. Oh, he absolutely just crushes at our place.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I was I I'll be honest, I was I was hoping to pick Dave O. I I love that guy. Yeah, uh strong.

SPEAKER_08

Well, you don't get you don't get to because I get to drive all the matches I go to with them.

SPEAKER_06

You do. You do. Yep. Yep. I gotta pick your boss, you gotta pick your ride or die guy, right?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. I mean, if my boss shot more matches, I'd be if if this was Dave 2015, well, yeah, I'd totally take Dave. If this was Dave 2016, 17, 18, or 19, even 20 or 21, 100%.

SPEAKER_11

Yep, I agree with that.

SPEAKER_08

Dave, I love you.

SPEAKER_06

I know you're not gonna watch this, but if you do, he's not watching. How many picks are we doing? Are we gonna do four? Uh we got a pretty good. Yeah, we could do five, probably. That takes top 20. Yeah, okay. Uh I'll pick for Orgain. You're gonna take Ben Gossett?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_10

No. I think Jeff. I Ben's not running CRBs, so I gotta pick Jeff Keary.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, okay. Do we know Jeff's hard to bet against? Do we know if he's healthy?

SPEAKER_10

He beat me in Mississippi when he just had surgery and he could hobble it around and couldn't even walk. I'm not worried about Jeff. As long as he's there, he's gonna do fine. Just hobble around. Yeah. Whip everybody on their on his crutches. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Uh I'll go ahead and take Francis. Yeah, I think that's a that's a good one too.

SPEAKER_11

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_05

Francois sheets good.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, you know what? Uh, and I get to pick two. I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go back to back. Uh I'm gonna take Chad. And I'm gonna take Chad.

SPEAKER_05

Chad shooting open, right? Yes, he is. Good. Okay. Oh, uh, me again. Uh let's see. Let's see. Oh, come on. Yeah, just grab one. Let's go.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I'll uh I'll take Baker. Keith Baker. Yeah, see, and then you pick an obvious one. Okay. Well, there's some strong loops.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, I'll take Ben now. There you go. Yeah. Two for Steiner. Oh, you're giving me two? Oh well, you got snake draft.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, you're saying that Brainer. I don't believe you guys skipped over Ryan Beck. This this might as well be his two-day home range, even though he looks closer to war. Yep. I mean, Ryan Beck's tough to beat. He wins almost every one-day match he shoots at our place. I'm gonna go him then.

SPEAKER_10

Ryan definitely shoots good, but I don't think he's hardly shot at all this year, has he?

SPEAKER_08

Uh, I think he's had some things going on at home.

SPEAKER_10

Um yeah, that's what that's what I understood too. So I didn't think he'd shot not that I think Ryan's a bad shooter. That's just the reason I think he's gonna do it. I don't think he's shot in a little while.

SPEAKER_08

But I but he's he shot up for two one days at our place already. Oh, yeah. I'm going there and then I'm I'm gonna go and I'm gonna take Preston. Okay. Because I look at all the trophies from our place at Sydney. Wow.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

That seems like something Bushman would do.

SPEAKER_06

I I like I like what you have. Dave O, Ryan back, Dave Preston. Solid. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I mean, it's kind of tough to like, I mean, Gary Gossett, Francis Baker, you know, Winkler, they all performed well.

SPEAKER_03

Really good shooters there.

SPEAKER_01

Um I am going to take.

SPEAKER_10

I'm gonna take Derek Warren. He's coming off of a hot win. There's a dark horse right there.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

That was gonna be my next one.

SPEAKER_10

I don't know if you call it a dark horse, though. He usually shoots those types of matches well.

SPEAKER_06

I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna do all B.

SPEAKER_05

Wilson.

SPEAKER_06

Yep. I get two again. I think I have to pick Josh Edged. That's a good one. Yeah. Yep. And I'm gonna go Josh Ulickey. Double Josh.

SPEAKER_10

The Wisconsin boys, huh?

SPEAKER_06

So far I got three out of four from Wisconsin and one from Michigan.

SPEAKER_11

Double Hoshi sticks right there. Yep.

SPEAKER_05

Back to me again. Uh back to me. John Galati. The fourth.

SPEAKER_08

This might be his first match of the year.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, is it?

SPEAKER_08

He's coming fresh off of problem.

SPEAKER_06

I mean he's fresh. He's not burned out since season.

SPEAKER_11

He's gonna come in strong. Yep.

SPEAKER_10

I'll uh I'll take Patty Young. Oh, man.

SPEAKER_08

I had a good show. He's got a really good show in South Carolina.

SPEAKER_06

Coming off of second place down there.

SPEAKER_08

Paddy shoots great.

SPEAKER_06

I got company here.

SPEAKER_08

All right. I'm gonna do uh let me go with my boy Dave Christmas, and then I'm gonna back that. I'm gonna double down with Andrew Makos.

SPEAKER_06

I knew putting Makos on here, he would he would show up. Okay. Nobody's picked Aaron Hip yet. Are are his best days behind him? Is he even shooting anymore?

SPEAKER_10

When's the last time he shot a match?

SPEAKER_08

His backyard into the dirt to break in his fresh barrels he just got?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, that he brought there. It's uh man, it's not the P it's not 2017 or 18 PRS. It's hard to just break back out and and be good. There's too many people that shoot too good. That's a fact.

SPEAKER_06

Well, I actually funny story. I talked to Scott Satterley this last weekend. I was squatted with him. And he left and went to Japan, I think, in 20 or 21, somewhere around there. Yeah. And then you know he was a s he was a solid shooter, and when he came back, that was his first impression. He's like, the game has gotten really hard. Like the folks shooting uh shoot really well. Like, yeah, it is that.

SPEAKER_01

Uh it's me. I'll take Taylor Hawkins.

SPEAKER_06

Taylor Hawkins met him at Box Canyon. Um, and he introduced himself because on the show that week I went, I don't know, Taylor. Beamer, you know Taylor? Nope. No, I'm still Taylor. And then he went out of his way to introduce himself to me. So kudos, Taylor. Uh I think I'm gonna go Hunter. That was my last pick.

SPEAKER_08

You're out of the guys from you're out of the guys from the Great Lakes.

SPEAKER_06

Nope. I'm gonna go with that one away. Roger Zeppa. Yep. All right. Let's let's end her there. Um this should be fun. We'll uh we'll recap this next week, see how we did. Um, I should probably save this Excel sheet somewhere, huh? Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Hey, you guys better watch out coming off of my hot streak from this last weekend.

SPEAKER_06

That's true.

SPEAKER_08

Can I throw a last ditch effort in? As kind of like uh, I think it could happen, but I'm not 100% sure.

SPEAKER_06

Is his name on this list? No, it's not. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I think it's Tony Rocco.

SPEAKER_05

ROCCO, was it? Yep.

SPEAKER_08

Tony Rocco shoots out of Jersey. He shoots all of our one-day. Yeah, no shit, he's from Jersey. Real shock.

SPEAKER_06

I've not met Tony, but I guarantee he's got a hairy chest and a gold chain.

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_10

He's not potentially part of the mafia.

SPEAKER_08

He's not even Italian.

SPEAKER_06

Allegedly.

SPEAKER_08

He's not even Italian.

SPEAKER_06

So describe Tony Rocco for us. Forget about it. Yeah, what's you know what? What? Uh let's see if I can present what this screen.

SPEAKER_08

Are you gonna show his profile pick? Well, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Is this a picture of a pizza or what?

SPEAKER_08

No, he doesn't have one on his ones.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, he doesn't he just goes by Tony. No profile Tony. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

He's pro shooter. Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_08

He finished second at Shootdog last year. He did really well down at Indiana this year, and he's won a couple one days recently. I mean, he's one of those guys that started three years ago, four years ago, and he just came on really hot.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Took a few classes and he took it serious. He, you know.

SPEAKER_06

Does does he listen to the show?

SPEAKER_08

Uh somebody will probably on his way out to the match on Thursday morning sometime. So he's gonna get a little impromptu like horn toot.

SPEAKER_06

I love it. I love it. So let's uh all right. I mean, we have our picks. This is the guy we're following now, right? Like throughout the match, we're gonna we're gonna check in on Tony and see how he's doing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Love it. Love it. Man, uh, give our best to Ken Sinoski and Mark Masenski, your uh mass director partners. Uh we'll do. Yeah, hopefully you guys have a great weekend and uh go Tony. All right, guys, thanks for having me on. Appreciate it. Justin Watts, Oki Showdown this weekend, man. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for being what appears to be fully dressed. I think the last call that I thought you popped on, I'm I almost guarantee you had one article, maybe or less, of clothing on. Uh so it's good to see you with the show member.

SPEAKER_07

You're only seeing part. I mean, I don't have to have clothes on. It's a podcast. I'm assuming I do have a guest with me. So yes, I have clothes on. We oh, we have a guest.

SPEAKER_05

Uh what's her name? Would you like to say hi?

SPEAKER_00

Hi, everyone.

SPEAKER_05

Oh boy.

SPEAKER_11

Oh, we can't see. Yeah. It's frozen. Your internet sucks. Wait. Who is it? It's your internet sucks. We can see it. Black hat.

SPEAKER_05

Look at the hat you again. Jamie Lin threw it? No, it's Valentina.

SPEAKER_11

What not?

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, it is Valentina. There you go. Yes. I can hear the accent. I still it the screen is boring for us, so when this comes, the podcast comes out, my internet bad crystal clear. Your internet sucks, but when it fully uploads, it'll be crystal clear. So the the yeah, but I can hear, I can hear the voice that is Valentina. Where's Moritz? Justin, be respectful and put more clothes on. I don't have clothes on.

SPEAKER_00

I can guarantee.

SPEAKER_07

He left.

SPEAKER_06

I don't know where he went. That's cool. Yeah, you have yeah, both uh Valentina and and Moritz are are shooting the match this weekend. Heck yeah. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_07

They're staying here at my house, so yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, what a party. Yeah. Yep. Valentina, congrats on top lady last weekend, too.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. Thank you so much.

SPEAKER_06

At Nutcrusher? Heck yeah, that was awesome to see. That's awesome. Yep. Lawrence was top international too, right? At Nutcrusher.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

That was Anthony Collie. Anthony.

SPEAKER_06

Anthony was. You're right. Yep. Yep. Beamer, your dogs are lapping up a shitload of water right now. Sorry. Is anybody else on the unit? Man. Well, this would be this would be interesting this weekend, and when we get to we get to pick uh winners for the match, I gotta make sure that we have both Valentina and and Moritz uh in the in the selection process here. Yeah, Morris is part of my draft for next crash. Yeah. Yep. Moritz, I think I've picked you a number of times now, and you're hot and cold. What's what's the deal there?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I don't know. I've not uh had my most consistent performances slightly, but uh yeah, I mean uh I think I only dropped like seven day two at Koenig Runga. That was a good match.

SPEAKER_11

That was a good match.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that was good. The uh uh Snake River match went pretty well. That was that was a hard match, but I shot well there, so I mean yeah, just uh everything has to come together to perform well, I record.

SPEAKER_05

Right on. Um how long are you guys in the country for?

SPEAKER_00

We are leaving after this match, so almost four days, five days.

SPEAKER_06

This is your grand finale, Justin. Don't let them down.

SPEAKER_07

They come to me for a reason.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. After after the West or Caming here.

SPEAKER_07

They need to come they need to come here to decompress. Exactly. Have a good match, an actual quality match. Get some confidence back.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Some confidence. Right not get kicked in the teeth. Freaking, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I might need kicked in the teeth at your house. You're just talking about fighting. 17 targets in uh a minute and 15 second time, you know.

SPEAKER_06

No big deal. No big deal. I I love it. I love it. Um, so what kind of match can we expect this this weekend, Justin?

SPEAKER_07

Man, typical Oklahoma match. I I always say they're meatballs, you know, like awesome. Typical Oklahoma match. I you can't say it that way. You can tell. It's a typical Oklahoma style match. Typical style, Oklahoma style match. Uh I mean, like troop lines, you know, a field style match, not a square range, you know.

SPEAKER_06

That is true. That is true. You do shoot uh it's past past 90 degrees, right? Yep. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Not quite. Yeah. I don't think.

SPEAKER_06

You got some that shoot is it straight east, and then you have some that shoot straight south. South is where the uh winter is.

SPEAKER_07

We've added some new targets, so you're you're you're shooting you're shooting south all the way to northeast. So yeah. North a little over nine degrees.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Okay. When the cows aren't out there on the east side, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. So we've had we've actually we've actually changed up the course of fire. I've been out there the last few days, um, just driving, driving seat posts.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. You guys have shot this match prior, haven't you?

SPEAKER_00

Uh nope. That's the first time for me. I guess more it's yes.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I've shot it. So the one thing I would say about this match, it's uh it's it's a match that actually makes you uh feel as if you got better shooting the match. So that's what's like my my uh my impression after I shot it first time last year.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. That was your first time last year? I think I think I shot it with you last year, didn't I? Yeah, we squat it together. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That was uh you well, probably one of your first matches in the sportsman setup, right?

SPEAKER_06

One of the other ones. Yep. You guys you guys want to hear something really embarrassing about that? I've not I told anybody this, and maybe Clay has. Um my that gun was difficult to shoot, I'll say that. It was just it, like I was challenged all around trying to shoot it, and I was shooting um uh uh it was a new rifle build, sportsman build. Um, and I left it for Clay to do some ammo, build ammo for me, and all that. And like he he identified it right off the bat. I didn't ask him to diagnose this, but I had my trigger hanger installed backwards. Well I'm not gonna lie, dude.

SPEAKER_07

Every time I pull my trigger off, I I I have to set it like I set it the way that I know it's gonna go back. Because I don't know. I I'll mess it up too.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I'm not judging. I mean, I the the side with the funny cuts on or whatever have to go to the safety side, right?

SPEAKER_10

Safety.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Yeah. Well now I now I know that, right?

SPEAKER_10

What what were you doing? Were you did you just have like a uh lag on your on your lock pin or what? It just never was your firing pin protrusion pretty high was it like pulled way back?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Your fire pin should have been sticking out of the back of your bolt pretty good.

SPEAKER_06

Probably. Yeah, I mean it I that I didn't notice but I I'm like man it's the same.

SPEAKER_10

You didn't have to worry about not getting it you know getting a lot primers tracked that way. No run and start at it plenty of spring pressure. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Just like Clay's trigger pull. Yeah see that's what I was trying to you know induce. But yeah anyways I did not shoot well that match and and clay clay made me 400 rounds of ammo for that rifle and it absolutely hammered and he turned the trigger hanger back around for me but it absolutely hammers now. So yeah I didn't have a great time there last experience but that's okay.

SPEAKER_07

I don't blame it on Justin uh I've shot better there before but um man Justin you have 111 uh victims this weekend yeah we I I had it at 100 and then uh sold out and decided we would go ahead and do 110 and went ahead and opened up uh to 110 and and then you know it's people you know begging to get in last minute and I'll just I tell no you know so it's like how many how many soldiers can you fit in the back of an LMTV? One more plus one yeah one more exactly love it I'll let you know if I can make it Saturday morning he's not if you show up with cash he ain't turning you around I can tell you that I promise you yeah yeah he's like if I show up he said if I show up Saturday morning you're gonna turn me away and I was like not if you got cash no cash is king with old Justin Watts on this whole Smashbook ransom yeah are you printing them for him uh we're doing a digital I love that okay I do digital matchbook are you actually going going green yeah no no he's cutting costs if you know Justin he's like how much does this cost that you you you want a$350 match fee or do you want a freaking matchbook? Like I mean I'm gonna give them a matchbook it's just gonna be a piece of paper right and then they have a a full on matchbook in their phone right yeah that's that's how I can keep this this match fee the same as it was eight years ago right you know everybody's match fees are going up 325 350 400 like mine's never changed you know if anybody wants to complain I'd like uh you know give me 350 and I'll print you up on real fancy matchbook or you can open it on your phone and save$75.

SPEAKER_06

There you go. So would you print one in Italian or German for me if I asked?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah for something about$4 Google Translate.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah well run it chat GPT for you guys put that thing in chat GPT you're gonna throw hands at me next time I see you all right yeah all right let's uh I'm gonna share my screen let's have some fun with this um window we're gonna we're gonna do some picks this week and Watts I put you in the driver's seat man you get to pick first coming to your match what am I picking all right so you're picking your top five well you're you're just picking one right now we're gonna snake draft go back and forth you know and and you'll get a pick this round and then is he gonna be there yeah um he signed up wait no wait is he not too late I think that's a great pick yeah it is no I know that's his home range it is a great pick I'm just not 100% sure that he's going I know I don't think he is either actually now that I say that he tried to talk me into going in his spot I think we gotta leave him in there we gotta leave him in there okay it's your game you make other rules now now you just kind of let it slip Austin are you going to this match no you're not you promise nah two week in two weekends in a row is too much for me nowadays we got T ball starting it's how far how far away is it for you it's a barbed drive ways two hours two hour drive could you is this one of those that you could fly there Saturday morning is there is there an airstrip nearby actually there's a grass strip a mile away from the range that's a couple of grass strip that I could land at he could probably land in the middle of the range I would not not hit a cow or a side by side or something or half of a pig building who knows if I had a scope plane or something like that I could land up there behind the firing line up behind the tower but you absolutely could I'm not doing I'm not doing no how far of a flight is it for you flight 30 minutes.

SPEAKER_10

Oh man awesome yeah all right if it was a qualifier he'd be there if it was a qualifier yep you you're probably not wrong yeah if it's a qualifier okay I don't know who picked all these qualifier matches but I did I know yep I got some help from signing this year. There you go.

SPEAKER_06

Ah that's the problem wish he was still on there I could grab it about him while he's not here yeah let's talk shit about him yeah uh I'm gonna go back Crusoe.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah that is an easy easy pick as well beamer oh first pick first pick uh Zane Zane yep beamer um I get two here and Morris how you feeling this weekend seriously confident is your shit right ammo he's just coming off of probably one of the hardest matches he's ever shot this is gonna feel easy to him yeah I mean uh this is this is he's gonna go this is way easy.

SPEAKER_06

If you drop two shots you're gonna be in tenth place though that's true are you shooting Dasher this weekend yeah yeah we we're shooting both Dasher Yup yeah I'm not getting a lot of confidence from you he's just humble uh all right so I get to you I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Shane Ward and I'm gonna take Tate and that's that could be my throwaway right because he might not he he might not even show up right yeah I want to Tate I know I'm gonna pick two guys I ain't gonna show up um I just have to be one don't I um Josh Longencker damn it's a bastard that's a good one that's a good one if that range he shoots well there yeah he we were talking about I'm gonna be honest I'd be shocked if Josh it in the top three shocked yeah honestly he's won every club match in the last six months out here that's a good one too cage is shooting well what uh I get a double pick you get a double pick end of second beginning a third round yeah uh give me Moritz and Dale Rhodes Moritz solid yep Dale Rhodes also a good pick love it fuck me on that you stopped sharing oh did we lose Ken no way no I was laughing that was funny it was it was froze for a second on my on my end for you yeah you were you were froze dang it uh what are we what are we betting on this is there money involved thousand dollars yes yep yeah well Kyle's definitely gonna be there yep thousand thousand dollars would be paying the three of us to split yeah yep yep well I am uh y'all are uh y'all are y'all are awfully bold betting somebody who has control of the scores I'm gonna go with coulters awfully bold to assume that I'm uh that I'm that uh that much integrity yeah yeah that's fair especially money on the line yeah I'm gonna go if it wasn't money yeah that would be a different story who'd you say Nick Barnard Nick Barnard yeah Kansas right that's a good one yep he doesn't have Bushman there heckling him the whole time so he'll probably do pretty good yeah I think he'll do better um oh you know what I gotta look I gotta look quick is Haride I bet he's shooting sportsmen he probably is shooting sportsman yeah he's shooting sportsman okay yeah you should still pick him he's very talented he is very talented and in this all right Justin how much of your match is prone three stages I mean a pretty very a very big percentage of it is modified prone um I I don't think there's with a sportsman rifle I don't think there's any disadvantage when you're prone.

SPEAKER_07

Straight positional there's probably like six stages so you're running 12 stages then or what?

SPEAKER_06

No six stages and then repeat the the same six the second day prone this time six stages are probably all positional the rest are prone to my I say it's an Oklahoma match man you're not putting your bipod down like nobody wants to play uh I'm gonna take I'm gonna take Caleb um I do like shooting off a bipod I'll be honest um I'm gonna take Valentina there you go now I should press shoot pressure's on now you have to shoot well two of us are watching your score uh back to beamer I think I'm gonna go ooh I'm gonna go Jake Graves oh I had Jake Scher in the Q I want I want to pick him but Jake turned your back on Kansas Jake Graves been shooting better lately he's got his own range he has to shoot better yeah that means he doesn't shoot at all so does Jake no joke yeah yeah Kay Orgain uh yeah I'll take Jake sure yeah Justin are we are we doing are we finishing here or we go one more I I think four oh one more as a five more it didn't matter that's fine we got room for one more we got room for one more and these are just like pros and semi pros that are and I know I'm I know I'm missing somebody I'm sorry you know uh I'm sure I'm sure there's a marksman out there saying this is my weekend give me uh we're picking uh so I got two more give me cows Antwort think which one of these are shooting sportsmen I can is this my is this my top five open it's just yeah top five for the match yeah uh give me Obadiah Obadiah Barnes okay back to our game Reagan stomach that's a good pick oh gosh I don't I don't even see that I don't see Reagan what I was really hoping you weren't gonna pick him gosh I didn't see him I'm gonna go uh I'm gonna go show Walter okay I'm gonna go Grant Watson there we go we each got five we'll see how this works out strong field yeah you gotta send me this because I won't remember who we picked yeah I can I can um right on hey uh Maurice Valentina safe travels have a great weekend it's good to see you guys it's borious heck on my end but when we when we actually cut this it'll be crystal clear so uh it's good to see you guys likewise cheers yeah cheers justin don't kick anybody's teeth in this weekend please uh be respectful to everybody in attendance sponsors match directors ROs shooters uh people bringing food by uh spouses uh I miss anybody children children especially yep okay yeah that's come on I love kids I'm great with kids that's animals I don't like okay you got enough uh you got any extra chamber flags uh ready to go just in case you need them yeah yeah we don't yeah we got a hey by the way speaking of chamber flags got a hundred and I pulled this really nice chamber flag out what's that awesome I pull this really nice chamber I pull this really nice chamber flag out of my bag and I'm like oh I need I need a chamber flag and this is the this is the last one I have in my bag because they all end up getting put in my different rifle cases and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_10

So I dig around and I find one I'm like oh yeah this is great and it's one that I was given to to by something called the PRS and I got to stick it in my chamber and it doesn't it won't even fit it doesn't fit in the extra in the ejection port of an impact is too long. No that's not true. I just problem is 100% so I was trying to stuff it in there and couldn't get in there so I had to like cut the back of that that little nipple on the back of it I take my pocket knife off out and whittle it off. Yeah. No that is false.

SPEAKER_06

That's all I have telling you that's all I have is impacts and those chamber flags.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah well maybe their tolerances are a little bit different and I got a high tolerance one because it would not go in it like you would you could get it in if you like hit it with the palm of your hand and got it in and then you didn't get it out. So I had to drop the bolt to get it out.

SPEAKER_06

This will fit in a six dasher and what it does so obviously this end goes in the chamber this end stays on your bolt face and it holds it on the bolt face.

SPEAKER_10

Uh-huh but then whenever it bottoms out in the front of your action in the in the in the front of your chamber it won't go in it's not true. It fits now that I cut a little bit off the back of it.

SPEAKER_06

It's a very tight squeeze tolerance stacking yeah exactly this is maybe it just doesn't Buck Holly made them at CHPS or that's even worse precision. Oh my gosh. That's even worse obviously I don't have I don't have a chamber on here.

SPEAKER_10

I was gonna say how's that gonna work I don't know how that doesn't fit because like I mean look at how much look at how deep that is there's no way the one I have doesn't fit and it's and if you hold it up to other chamber flags that I have that are like that it's substantially not substantially but it's longer and doesn't fit.

SPEAKER_06

Don't but I don't but thank you for thank you for carrying it around yeah thank you for using it. Yeah yeah nobody else was buying it either obviously without whittling it out well we gave them away Justin at the finale yeah they were free yeah they were free super supernatural chamber flag it will work it does work it does work all right Justin appreciate you having having uh you on tonight thank you for bringing your guests that's awesome uh it's good to see you guys have a great match this weekend yeah man it's gonna be a good one
