Today we are studying Mark Chapter 5. In this chapter, Jesus delivers a man possessed by demons, heals a woman suffering for years, and raises a young girl from the dead—showing us that His authority extends over darkness, sickness, and even death itself, and that faith in Him brings restoration and new life. We are reminded that no situation is beyond the reach of Jesus. He has authority over every force that comes against us—whether it’s spiritual oppression, long-term suffering, or even death itself. It calls us to reject fear, embrace faith, and boldly share what He has done in our lives.

Welcome to Giving God PRAISE. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible book by book and chapter by chapter. Our goal is to discover not only what God’s Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a Promise to Claim, a Response to Make, an Attitude to Change, an Instruction to Obey, a Sin to Confess, and an Example to Follow. So let’s go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today’s teaching.
First, we see a Promise to Claim. In Mark 5:34 Jesus says, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be free from your affliction.” This promise reminds us that faith in Jesus leads to healing and peace. Whether our need is physical, emotional, or spiritual, we can trust that bringing it to Him in faith opens the door for His restoring power to work in our lives.
Next is a Response to Make. In Mark 5:36 Jesus told Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe.” Our response is to choose faith over fear. Even when circumstances seem impossible, Jesus calls us to trust Him. Like Jairus, we are invited to keep believing, even when the situation looks beyond hope.
Now let’s consider an Attitude to Change. In Mark 5:15 it says, “They came to Jesus and saw the man who had been demon-possessed sitting there, dressed and in his right mind—and they were afraid.” This challenges us to examine how we respond to God’s power. Do we welcome His work in our lives, or do we resist it because it disrupts our comfort? We must shift from fear and control to trust and surrender.
Then we see an Instruction to Obey. In Mark 5:19 Jesus told the man, “Go back home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord has done for you and how He has had mercy on you.” The instruction is clear: share your testimony. When Jesus transforms our lives, we are called to tell others about His mercy and what He has done for us.
Next we come to a Sin to Confess. In Mark 5:40 it says, “But they started laughing at Him.” This reveals the sin of unbelief and mockery. When Jesus said the girl was not dead but asleep, people laughed because they didn’t believe. We must confess any doubt, cynicism, or disbelief that keeps us from trusting in God’s power.
Finally, we see an Example to Follow. In Mark 5:33 it says, “Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came with fear and trembling, fell down before Him, and told Him the whole truth.” This woman gives us a powerful example of faith and honesty. She pursued Jesus despite fear, reached out in faith, and responded with humility and truth. We are called to come to Jesus in that same way—honest, desperate, and believing.
Mark Chapter 5 reminds us that no situation is beyond the reach of Jesus. He has authority over every force that comes against us—whether it’s spiritual oppression, long-term suffering, or even death itself. It calls us to reject fear, embrace faith, and boldly share what He has done in our lives.
