Today we are studying Mark Chapter 7. In this chapter, Jesus confronts religious traditions that replace God’s truth, teaches that true defilement comes from within, and demonstrates His power and compassion through healing—showing us that God cares more about the condition of our hearts than outward appearances. Mark Chapter 7 reminds us that God is not looking for outward perfection—He is looking for inward transformation. It calls us to examine our hearts, remove anything that separates us from Him, and pursue a sincere relationship built on faith and obedience.

Welcome to Giving God PRAISE. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible book by book and chapter by chapter. Our goal is to discover not only what God’s Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a Promise to Claim, a Response to Make, an Attitude to Change, an Instruction to Obey, a Sin to Confess, and an Example to Follow. So let’s go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today’s teaching.
Today we are studying Mark Chapter 7. In this chapter, Jesus confronts religious traditions that replace God’s truth, teaches that true defilement comes from within, and demonstrates His power and compassion through healing—showing us that God cares more about the condition of our hearts than outward appearances.
First, we see a Promise to Claim. In Mark 7:29 Jesus said to the woman, “Because of this reply, you may go. The demon has left your daughter.” This promise reminds us that faith is heard by Jesus. Even when we feel like outsiders or unworthy, our faith can move the heart of God. We can trust that when we come to Him with persistence and belief, He responds.
Next is a Response to Make. In Mark 7:14 Jesus says, “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand.” Our response is to truly listen and seek understanding. God’s Word is not just meant to be heard—it’s meant to be understood and applied. We are called to lean in and receive what Jesus is teaching.
Now let’s consider an Attitude to Change. In Mark 7:6 Jesus says, “These people honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.” This challenges us to examine our authenticity. Are we just saying the right things, or is our heart truly close to God? We must move from empty religion to genuine relationship, where our hearts align with our words.
Then we see an Instruction to Obey. In Mark 7:15 Jesus teaches, “Nothing that goes into a person from outside can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” The instruction is clear: guard your heart. What flows out of us—our words, actions, and attitudes—reveals what is inside. We are called to pursue inward purity, not just outward compliance.
Next we come to a Sin to Confess. In Mark 7:21–22 it says, “For from within, out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.” This reveals the true source of sin—the human heart. We must confess not just outward actions, but the inner attitudes and desires that lead to them.
Finally, we see an Example to Follow. In Mark 7:25–26 it says, “Instead, immediately after hearing about Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit came and fell at His feet… she kept asking Him to drive the demon out of her daughter.” This woman gives us an example of persistent faith and humility. She did not give up, and she trusted Jesus completely. We are called to approach Him with that same persistence and belief.
Mark Chapter 7 reminds us that God is not looking for outward perfection—He is looking for inward transformation. It calls us to examine our hearts, remove anything that separates us from Him, and pursue a sincere relationship built on faith and obedience.
