Welcome to Giving God PRAISE. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible book by book and chapter by chapter. Our goal is to discover not only what God’s Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a Promise to Claim, a Response to Make, an Attitude to Change, an Instruction to Obey, a Sin to Confess, and an Example to Follow. So let’s go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today’s teaching.
Today we are studying Mark Chapter 8. In this chapter, Jesus feeds the four thousand, warns His disciples about spiritual blindness, heals a blind man in stages, reveals His identity as the Messiah, and teaches what it truly means to follow Him—showing us that spiritual clarity comes through faith, humility, and surrender.
First, we see a Promise to Claim. In Mark 8:2–3 Jesus says, “I have compassion on the crowd, because they’ve already stayed with Me three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, and some of them have come a long distance.” This promise reminds us that Jesus sees our needs and has compassion on us. He does not overlook our struggles, and He is faithful to provide for us when we stay close to Him.
Next is a Response to Make. In Mark 8:34 Jesus says, “If anyone wants to be My follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.” Our response is to surrender. Following Jesus requires us to lay down our own desires and choose His will daily. It’s not about convenience—it’s about commitment and obedience.
Now let’s consider an Attitude to Change. In Mark 8:17 Jesus says, “Why are you discussing that you do not have any bread? Don’t you understand or comprehend? Do you have hardened hearts?” This challenges us to examine areas where we doubt God despite His past faithfulness. We must move from confusion and unbelief to trust and understanding, remembering what God has already done.
Then we see an Instruction to Obey. In Mark 8:15 Jesus warned them, “Watch out; beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.” The instruction is to guard against false teaching and worldly influence. Just like yeast spreads through dough, wrong beliefs and attitudes can quietly influence our lives. We are called to stay rooted in truth and remain spiritually alert.
Next we come to a Sin to Confess. In Mark 8:33 Jesus said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are not thinking about God’s concerns, but man’s.” This reveals the danger of prioritizing human thinking over God’s will. We must confess any mindset that resists God’s plan or elevates our own understanding above His truth.
Finally, we see an Example to Follow. In Mark 8:25 it says, “Again Jesus placed His hands on the man’s eyes, and he saw distinctly. He was cured and could see everything clearly.” This man’s healing shows us that spiritual clarity can come in stages. As we continue to trust Jesus, He brings greater understanding and clarity into our lives. We are called to remain patient and faithful as He opens our eyes.
Mark Chapter 8 reminds us that following Jesus requires more than just seeing—it requires understanding. It calls us to trust His provision, surrender our lives, guard our hearts, and allow Him to bring true spiritual clarity.
