Welcome to Giving God PRAISE. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible, book by book and chapter by chapter. Our desire is to discover not only what God’s Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a Promise to Claim, a Response to Make, an Attitude to Change, an Instruction to Obey, a Sin to Confess, and an Example to Follow. So let’s go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today’s teaching.

Today we are studying Mark Chapter 11. In this chapter, Jesus enters Jerusalem as King, is welcomed by the crowds, curses the fig tree, clears the temple, and teaches about faith and prayer. This chapter reveals His authority and confronts empty religion. It challenges us to examine whether our lives are producing real fruit or just appearance. Jesus calls us to live with genuine faith, true worship, and complete trust in God.

Let’s begin reading Mark Chapter 11:

When they approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany near the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples and told them, “Go into the village ahead of you. As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here right away.’”

So they went and found a colt outside in the street, tied by a door. They untied it, and some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”

They answered them just as Jesus had said; so they let them go. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their robes on it, and He sat on it. Many people spread their robes on the road, and others spread leafy branches cut from the fields.

Then those who went ahead and those who followed kept shouting:
“Hosanna!
He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One!
The coming kingdom of our father David is blessed!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

He went into Jerusalem and into the temple complex. After looking around at everything, since it was already late, He went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

The next day when they went out from Bethany, He was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, He went to find out if there was anything on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. Then He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples heard it.

They came to Jerusalem, and He went into the temple complex and began to throw out those buying and selling. He overturned the money changers’ tables and the chairs of those selling doves, and would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple complex.

Then He began to teach them: “Is it not written, My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves!”

The chief priests and the scribes heard it and started looking for a way to kill Him… because the whole crowd was astonished by His teaching.

Early in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. Then Peter remembered and said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that You cursed has withered.”

Jesus replied to them, “Have faith in God. I assure you: If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

“Therefore I tell you, everything you pray and ask for—believe that you have received it and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your wrongdoing.”

They came again to Jerusalem… The chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came and asked Him, “By what authority are You doing these things? Who gave You this authority?”

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question… Was John’s baptism from heaven or from men?”

They discussed it among themselves… So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”

And Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Before we begin our PRAISE study, let’s take a moment to turn our hearts toward the Lord and invite Him to search us.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Word and the truth we see in Mark Chapter 11. Search our hearts and reveal anything that is not producing fruit. Teach us to live with genuine faith, to pray with confidence, and to walk in obedience to Your will.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now that we’ve read God’s Word and prepared our hearts in prayer, let’s begin our PRAISE study and see what He wants to show us today.

In this chapter, we first see a Promise to Claim. In Mark 11:24 Jesus says, “Everything you pray and ask for—believe that you have received it and it will be yours.” This promise speaks to the power of faith-filled prayer. Jesus is not teaching us to manipulate outcomes, but to trust God fully as we bring our requests before Him. Prayer is not just about asking—it is about believing. It is about aligning our hearts with God’s will and trusting that He hears us. This promise encourages us to pray with confidence, not hesitation. It reminds us that God is not distant or uninterested, but attentive and active. When we pray in faith, we are placing our trust in His power, His timing, and His wisdom. Even when the answer does not come the way we expect, we can trust that He is working. This promise gives us boldness to bring everything before Him and confidence that our prayers matter.

Next, we see a Response to Make. In Mark 11:9 the crowd cries out, “Hosanna!” Our response is to recognize and honor Jesus as King. The people welcomed Him with praise, but true recognition goes beyond words—it requires a surrendered heart. We are called to respond not just with excitement, but with commitment. Welcoming Jesus into our lives means giving Him authority over our decisions, our priorities, and our direction. It means choosing His way over our own. This response challenges us to move beyond surface-level praise and into a deeper relationship with Him. When we truly recognize Him as King, it changes how we live. Our worship becomes genuine, our obedience becomes consistent, and our faith becomes active. This is a daily response—to acknowledge Him, trust Him, and follow Him with our whole lives.

Now we consider an Attitude to Change. In Mark 11:17 Jesus confronts the temple being turned into “a den of thieves.” This reveals an attitude of misplaced priorities. The people had allowed something sacred to become corrupted by personal gain. We must move from self-centered thinking to God-centered living. It is possible to be around spiritual things while missing the heart of God. Changing our attitude means examining what we value and ensuring that our lives reflect true worship. It means removing distractions, selfish motives, and anything that takes the place of God. When our attitude shifts, our lives begin to reflect sincerity instead of appearance. God desires a heart that is fully devoted to Him, not just outward activity. This transformation leads to a deeper, more authentic relationship with Him.

Then we see an Instruction to Obey. In Mark 11:25 Jesus says, “Whenever you stand praying… forgive.” The instruction is clear—forgive others. Forgiveness is essential to our relationship with God. Holding onto bitterness blocks our ability to experience His grace fully. Obedience in this area requires humility and trust. It does not mean ignoring pain, but it means releasing it to God. When we forgive, we free ourselves and align our hearts with His. This instruction is not always easy, but it is necessary. It keeps our hearts open and our relationship with God strong.

Next, we come to a Sin to Confess. This chapter reveals the sin of fruitlessness—appearing alive but lacking true spiritual fruit, like the fig tree. We must confess any area where our lives look right on the outside but lack real faith, obedience, or transformation. God is not looking for appearance—He is looking for fruit. When we bring this before Him, He begins to produce real growth in our lives.

Finally, we see an Example to Follow. Jesus demonstrates authority, boldness, and purity of purpose. He did not compromise when He saw wrong, and He remained focused on God’s mission. This is our example—to live with conviction, to stand for truth, and to keep our lives aligned with God’s will.

As we close, Mark Chapter 11 reminds us that true faith produces fruit, true worship is sincere, and true prayer is filled with belief and forgiveness. It calls us to examine our hearts and live in a way that reflects God’s truth.
