Welcome to Giving God PRAISE. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible book by book and chapter by chapter. Our goal is to discover not only what God’s Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a Promise to Claim, a Response to Make, an Attitude to Change, an Instruction to Obey, a Sin to Confess, and an Example to Follow. So let’s go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today’s teaching.

Today we are studying Mark Chapter 12. In this chapter, Jesus teaches through parables, confronts religious leaders, explains the greatest commandment, and highlights true devotion—showing us that God desires our whole heart, not just outward actions.

First, we see a Promise to Claim. In Mark 12:10–11 Jesus says, “Haven’t you read this Scripture: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This came from the Lord and is wonderful in our eyes?” This promise reminds us that what is rejected by the world can be chosen and established by God. Jesus is the cornerstone, and when we build our lives on Him, we are part of something God Himself has established.

Next is a Response to Make. In Mark 12:17 Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” Our response is to give God what belongs to Him—our lives, our hearts, and our devotion. We are called to live faithfully in both our earthly responsibilities and our spiritual commitment.

Now let’s consider an Attitude to Change. In Mark 12:38–39 Jesus warns, “Beware of the scribes, who want to walk around in long robes, and who want greetings in the marketplaces, the front seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at banquets.” This challenges us to move away from pride and recognition-seeking. We must shift from wanting to be seen by others to living humbly before God.

Then we see an Instruction to Obey. In Mark 12:30–31 Jesus teaches, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength… Love your neighbor as yourself.” The instruction is clear: love God completely and love others sincerely. This is the foundation of everything we do as followers of Christ.

Next we come to a Sin to Confess. In Mark 12:40 Jesus says, “They devour widows’ houses and say long prayers just for show. These will receive harsher punishment.” This reveals the sin of hypocrisy—appearing righteous outwardly while being corrupt inwardly. We must confess any area where our actions do not match our heart before God.

Finally, we see an Example to Follow. In Mark 12:43–44 Jesus said, “I assure you: This poor widow has put in more than all those giving to the temple treasury. For they all gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she possessed—all she had to live on.” This widow shows us true devotion and sacrificial giving. She trusted God fully and gave from her heart, not from abundance.

Mark Chapter 12 reminds us that God is not impressed by appearances—He is moved by genuine love and devotion. It calls us to build our lives on Christ, love God with everything we have, live humbly, and give ourselves fully to Him.
