Welcome to Giving God PRAISE. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible book by book and chapter by chapter. Our goal is to discover not only what God’s Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a Promise to Claim, a Response to Make, an Attitude to Change, an Instruction to Obey, a Sin to Confess, and an Example to Follow. So let’s go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today’s teaching.

Today we are studying Luke Chapter 5. This chapter shows Jesus calling His first disciples, performing miracles, and demonstrating His authority to forgive sins. We see ordinary people invited into extraordinary purpose. It reminds us that Jesus meets us where we are, but He never leaves us the same. As we walk through this chapter, we see that following Him requires faith, surrender, and trust in His direction, even when it doesn’t make sense.

First, we see a Promise to Claim. In Luke 5:10 Jesus tells Simon, “Don’t be afraid… from now on you will be catching people.” This promise reminds us that God gives purpose to our lives. No matter our past or limitations, He calls us into something greater. He takes what seems ordinary and uses it for something eternal. We can trust that God sees potential in us that we may not see in ourselves, and His calling brings meaning and direction.

Next is a Response to Make. In Luke 5:11 it says, “Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed Him.” Their response was immediate and complete. They didn’t hesitate—they surrendered. Our response is to follow Jesus fully. This means letting go of what holds us back and trusting Him with our future. Following Him is not partial—it is wholehearted. When we respond with obedience, we step into the life He has prepared for us.

Now let’s consider an Attitude to Change. In Luke 5:5 Simon says, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing! But at Your word, I’ll let down the nets.” This reveals a shift from doubt to trust. Even when circumstances didn’t make sense, Simon chose to obey. We must move from relying on our own understanding to trusting God’s direction, even when results are not immediately visible.

Then we see an Instruction to Obey. In Luke 5:20 Jesus says, “Friend, your sins are forgiven you.” This shows that spiritual healing is essential. The instruction is to come to Jesus with our needs and trust Him fully. We are called to seek Him for both our physical and spiritual needs, knowing He understands what we truly need most in our lives.

Next we come to a Sin to Confess. In Luke 5:21 it says, “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” This reveals the sin of unbelief. The religious leaders doubted Jesus instead of recognizing Him. We must confess any doubt or resistance that keeps us from fully trusting who Jesus is and what He can do in our lives.

Finally, we see an Example to Follow. In Luke 5:31–32 Jesus says, “It is not those who are healthy who need a doctor, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Jesus showed compassion and purpose. He reached the broken and the lost. This is our example—to love others, extend grace, and share truth with those who need it most.

Luke Chapter 5 reminds us that Jesus calls us to leave the old behind and follow Him into a transformed life. It challenges us to trust Him, surrender fully, and walk in the purpose He has given us.
