Welcome to Giving God Praise. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible, book by book and chapter by chapter. Our desire is to discover not only what God's Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a promise to claim, a response to make, an attitude to change, an instruction to obey, a sin to confess, and an example to follow. So let's go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today's teaching. Today we are studying John chapter 13. In this chapter, Jesus washes his disciples' feet, demonstrating humility and servant leadership. He also foretells his betrayal and gives a new commandment to love one another just as he has loved us. This chapter reveals the true greatness in the kingdom of God is found in serving others and loving sacrificially. It reminds us that following Jesus means laying down pride and living in humble, active love. Let's begin reading John chapter 13. Before the Passover festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. Now by the time of supper, the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas, Simon Iscariot's son, to betray him. Jesus knew that the Father had given everything into his hands, that he had come from God, and that he was going back to God. So he got up from supper, laid aside his robe, took a towel, and tied it around himself. Next he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet and to dry them with the towel tied around him. He came to Simon Peter, who asked him, Lord, are you going to wash my feet? Jesus answered him, What I'm doing you don't understand now, but afterward you will know. You will never wash my feet, ever, Peter said. Jesus replied, If I don't wash you, you have no part with me. Simon Peter said to him, Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head. One who has bathed, Jesus told him, doesn't need to wash anything except his feet, but he is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you. For he knew who would betray him. This is why he said, You are not all clean. When Jesus had washed their feet and put on his robe, he reclined again and said to them, Do you know what I have done for you? You call me teacher and Lord. This is well said, for I am. So if I, your Lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you. I assure you, a slave is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. I'm not speaking about all of you. I know those I have chosen, but the scripture must be fulfilled. The one who eats my bread has raised his heel against me. I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe that I am he. I assure you, whoever receives anyone I send receives me, and the one who receives me receives him who sent me. When Jesus had said this, he was troubled in his spirit and testified, I assure you, one of you will betray me. The disciples started looking at one another, uncertain which one he was speaking about. One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved, was reclining close beside Jesus. Simon Peter motioned to him to find out who it was he was talking about. So he leaned back against Jesus and asked him, Lord, who is it? Jesus replied, He's the one I give the piece of bread to after I have dipped it. When he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas, Simon Iscariot's son. After Judas ate the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Therefore Jesus told him, What you're doing, do quickly. None of those reclining at the table knew why he told him this. Since Judas kept the money back, some thought that Jesus was telling him, Buy what we need for the festival, or that he should give something to the poor. After receiving the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night. When he had gone out, Jesus said, Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and will glorify him at once. Children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, where I am going you cannot come. So now I tell you, I give you a new command. Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. Lord, Simon Peter said to him, Where are you going? Jesus answered, Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later. Lord, Peter asked, Why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you. Jesus replied, Will you lay down your life for me? I assure you, a rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times. Let's take a moment to quiet our hearts and go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of John chapter 13 and the powerful example of Jesus' humility and love. Thank you that even knowing what was ahead, he chose to serve, to love, and to give himself fully. Lord, help us to walk in that same humility, remove pride from our hearts, and teach us to serve others selflessly. Give us a love that reflects your love, patient, sacrificial, and genuine. Help us to live in a way that clearly shows we belong to you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Now that we've read God's Word and prepared our hearts in prayer, let's begin our praise study and listen to what God wants to say to our hearts today. In John chapter 13, we see a powerful promise to claim in the blessing Jesus speaks. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. This promise reminds us that true blessing is found in obedience. Not just hearing truth, but living it out. When we walk in humility and love, we experience the fullness of what God desires for us. This promise assures us that God honors a life that reflects his character. It calls us to move beyond knowledge into action. The response to make in this chapter is to love and serve. Jesus didn't just teach love, he demonstrated it. He washed his disciples' feet, taking the role of a servant. Our response is to follow that example. We are called to love others actively, not just in words. We are called to serve, even when it is uncomfortable or unnoticed. This kind of love reflects Christ to the world. We are called to change our attitude from pride to humility. Peter initially resisted because it didn't make sense for Jesus to serve him, but Jesus showed that humility is essential. We must shift from seeking status to embracing service. Another attitude to change is from conditional love to unconditional love. Jesus loved even Judas, knowing he would betray him. We are called to love beyond convenience. A changed attitude values others and reflects Christ's heart. The instruction to obey in this chapter is clear: love one another as Jesus has loved us. This is not optional. It is a command. We are instructed to serve one another and put others before ourselves. We are instructed to live in a way that reflects Christ's love daily. Obedience means choosing love, even when it's difficult. The sin to confess in this chapter is pride and lack of love. We must confess when we place ourselves above others. We must confess when we fail to serve or love as Christ has called us to. We also need to confess selfishness. True love requires sacrifice. Confession realigns our hearts with God's will. The example to follow in this chapter is Jesus Himself. He is the perfect example of humility, service, and love. He didn't cling to his position, he used it to serve. We are called to follow his example in how we treat others. We also see the importance of obedience in the disciples' response. Following these examples means living with humility and loving with action. John chapter 13 reminds us that true discipleship is marked by love and service. It calls us to lay down pride, serve others, and reflect Christ in everything we do. Take time today to ask yourself: Am I living with humility? Am I loving others the way Jesus loves me? Am I serving? Or am I seeking to be served? If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded what true Christ-like love looks like. Let's finish today's study by going to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that our listeners chose to spend their time with us in your word today. Thank you for the truth of John chapter 13 and the reminder that love and humility define our walk with you. Lord, help us to love as you love. Teach us to serve selflessly and to put others before ourselves. Shape our hearts to reflect your character in every area of our lives. Let our lives be a testimony of your love to those around us. We pray that this message would encourage every listener and that they would feel led to share it with someone who needs this truth today. May God bless you and keep you in his grace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
