Welcome to Giving God Praise. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible, book by book and chapter by chapter. Our desire is to discover not only what God's Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a promise to claim, a response to make, an attitude to change, an instruction to obey, a sin to confess, and an example to follow. So let's go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today's teaching. Today we are studying John chapter 16. In this chapter, Jesus prepares his disciples for the cut-in moments ahead, warning them about persecution, but also promising the coming of the Holy Spirit. He explains that the Spirit will guide them into truth, convict the world, and glorify him. Jesus also speaks about sorrow turning into joy and reminds them that he has overcome the world. This chapter reminds us that even in difficulty God is working, his spirit is with us, and joy is coming. Let's begin reading John chapter 16. I have told you these things to keep you from stumbling. They will ban you from the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service to God. They will do these things because they haven't known the Father or me. But I have told you these things, so that when their time comes you may remember I told them to you. I didn't tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going away to him who sent me, and not one of you asks me, Where are you going? Yet because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don't go away, the counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment, about sin, because they do not believe in me, about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me, and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. I still have many things to tell you, but you can't bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything the Father has is mine. This is why I told you that he takes from what is mine and will declare it to you. A little while, and you will no longer see me. Again a little while, and you will see me. Therefore some of his disciples said to one another, What is this he tells us? A little while, and you will not see me, again a little while, and you will see me. And because I am going to the Father? They said, What is this he is saying? A little while. We don't know what he's talking about. Jesus knew they wanted to question him, so he said to them, Are you asking one another about what I said? A little while and you will not see me? Again a little while and you will see me? I assure you, you will weep and wail, but the world will rejoice. You will become sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. When a woman is in labor, she has pain because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the suffering, because of the joy that a person has been born into the world. So you also have sorrow now, but I will see you again. Your hearts will rejoice, and no one will rob you of your joy. In that day you will not ask me anything. I assure you, anything you ask the Father in my name, he will give you. Until now you have asked for nothing in my name, ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. A time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but I will tell you plainly about the Father, in that day you will ask in my name. I am not telling you that I will make requests to the Father on your behalf, for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father. Ah, his disciples said. Now you're speaking plainly and not using any figurative language. Now we know that you know everything and don't need anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God. Jesus responded to them, Do you now believe? Look, an hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous. I have conquered the world. Let's take a moment to quiet our hearts and go to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, I thank you for the truth of John chapter 16 and the powerful reminder that even in sorrow you are working. Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who guides us, teaches us, and stays with us. Lord, help us to trust you in difficult seasons. When we feel sorrow or confusion, remind us that joy is coming. Give us courage to stand firm in our faith, knowing that Jesus has already overcome the world. Fill us with your peace and strengthen us to walk in your truth daily. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Now that we've read God's Word and prepared our hearts in prayer, let's begin our praise study and listen to what God wants to say to our hearts today. In John chapter 16, we see a powerful promise to claim in Jesus' words You will become sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy, and be courageous. I have conquered the world. This promise reminds us that pain is not permanent. What feels heavy today will not last forever. Jesus assures us that joy is coming and that victory is already secured. Even when life feels uncertain, we can hold on to the truth that He has overcome the world. This promise gives us hope in every situation. It reminds us that our story does not end in sorrow, it ends in joy. The response to make in this chapter is to trust and remain courageous. Jesus calls his disciples to believe even when things don't make sense. He tells them ahead of time, so they will not fall away. Our response is to trust his words, even when we are walking through difficulty. We are also called to be courageous. Courage is not the absence of fear, it is choosing to stand firm in faith despite it. Our response is to trust God, stay faithful, and move forward with confidence in Him. We are called to change our attitude from despair to hope. The disciples were filled with sorrow because they didn't fully understand what was happening. We often feel the same way when life is difficult, but Jesus calls us to shift our perspective. We must move from focusing on temporary pain to trusting in eternal purpose. Another attitude to change is from confusion to trust. We may not always understand what God is doing, but we can trust who He is. A changed attitude rests in God's faithfulness. The instruction to obey in this chapter is to ask, trust, and rely on the Holy Spirit. Jesus tells his disciples to ask in his name. This means we are invited into a relationship where we depend on God through prayer. We are also instructed to rely on the Spirit of truth. We are not meant to navigate life alone. The Holy Spirit guides, teaches, and strengthens us. Obedience means staying connected to God and trusting His leading. The sin to confess in this chapter is unbelief and fear. Even after hearing Jesus' words, the disciples struggle to fully understand and trust. We must confess when we allow doubt to take over. We must also confess fear that keeps us from standing firm in our faith. Another sin to confess is self-reliance. We often try to handle things on our own instead of depending on God. Confession brings us back to trust and surrender. The example to follow in this chapter is Jesus Himself. He faced suffering with confidence because he trusted the Father completely. He spoke truth, prepared his disciples, and remained steadfast. We are also called to follow the example of those who choose to trust God even when they don't fully understand. Following this example means living with faith, courage, and dependence on God. John chapter 16 reminds us that sorrow is temporary, joy is coming, and victory is already won in Christ. It calls us to trust God, remain courageous, and rely on the Holy Spirit in every season. Take time today to ask yourself: Am I trusting God in difficult moments? Am I relying on the Holy Spirit for guidance? Am I walking in courage or giving in to fear? If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded that Jesus has already overcome the world. Let's finish today's study by going to the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that our listeners chose to spend their time with us in your word today. Thank you for the truth of John chapter 16 and the reminder that you have overcome the world. Lord, help us to trust you more deeply. Give us courage in difficult times and peace in uncertain moments. Teach us to rely on your spirit and to walk in your truth daily. Strengthen our faith so we can stand firm no matter what we face. We pray that this message would encourage every listener and that they would feel led to share it with someone who needs this truth today. May God bless you and keep you in his grace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
