Today we are studying Acts Chapter 6. In this chapter, the early church begins to grow rapidly, and with growth comes new challenges. A conflict arises over the distribution to widows, and the apostles respond by appointing seven men to serve and ensure fairness. This allows the apostles to remain focused on prayer and the ministry of the Word. We are also introduced to Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, who boldly stands for truth. Acts 6:7 says, “So the preaching about God flourished, the number of the disciples in Jerusalem multiplied greatly, and a large group of priests became obedient to the faith.” This chapter reminds us that God uses structure, service, and faithful people to grow His church.

Welcome to Giving God Praise. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible, book by book and chapter by chapter. Our desire is to discover not only what God's Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a promise to claim, a response to make, an attitude to change, an instruction to obey, a sin to confess, and an example to follow. So let's go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today's teaching. Acts 6 7 says, So the preaching about God flourished, the number of the disciples in Jerusalem multiplied greatly, and a large group of priests became obedient to the faith. This chapter reminds us that God uses structure, service, and faithful people to grow his church. Let's begin reading Acts chapter 6. In those days, as the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint by the Hellenistic Jews against the Hebraic Jews that their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution. Then the twelve summoned the whole company of the disciples and said, It would not be right for us to give up preaching about God to handle financial matters. Therefore, brothers, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and wisdom, whom we can appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the preaching ministry. The proposal pleased the whole company, so they chose Stephen, a man full of faith in the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Procorus, Nikoner, Tymon, Parmenas, and Nicholas, a proselyte from Antioch. They had them stand before the apostles who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the preaching about God flourished, the number of the disciples in Jerusalem multiplied greatly, and a large group of priests became obedient to the faith. Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people. Then some from what is called the Freedmen's Synagogue, composed of both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia came forward and disputed with Stephen, but they were unable to stand up against his wisdom and the spirit by whom he was speaking. Then they persuaded some men to say, We heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God. They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes. So they came, dragged him off, and took him to the Sanhedrin. They also presented false witnesses who said, This man does not stop speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law. For we heard him say that Jesus, this Nazarene, will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us. And all who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel. Let's take a moment to pause and set our hearts before the Lord. Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of Acts chapter 6 and the reminder that your church grows through faithful service and wise leadership. Thank you for showing us that every role matters and that you use people who are willing and surrendered. Lord, help us to serve with humility and to walk in wisdom. Give us hearts that care for others and a desire to build unity in your church. Strengthen us to stand firm in truth, even when we face opposition. Fill us with your spirit so that our lives reflect your grace and power. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

In Acts chapter 6, we see a powerful promise to claim in the truth that God's word continues to grow and spread when his people walk in obedience. Even in the middle of conflict, the church did not fall apart, it became stronger. This promise reminds us that challenges do not stop God's work. Instead, he uses them to refine and strengthen his people. We also see the promise that God equips those he calls. The seven men chosen were full of the Spirit and wisdom. This shows us that God provides what we need to serve him effectively. This promise gives us confidence that we are not called to serve in our own strength. God empowers us through his spirit. The response to make in this chapter is to step into service with willingness and faithfulness. The early church recognized a need and responded. They did not ignore the problem, they addressed it with wisdom. Our response should be the same. When we see a need, we are called to act. We are also called to respond with unity. The church came together and supported the decision of the apostles. This shows the importance of working together. We also respond by remaining faithful to what God has called us to do. The apostles stayed focused on prayer and teaching. This chapter calls us to respond with service, unity, and faithfulness. We are called to change our attitude from self-focus to servant-hearted living. The issue in this chapter began with people being overlooked. We must shift from focusing on ourselves to caring for others. Another attitude to change is from disorder to intentional structure. The apostles created a system to meet the needs effectively. This shows us that organization and wisdom matter in God's work. We also need to change from fear of opposition to boldness in truth. Stephen stood firm even when people opposed him. A changed attitude values service, wisdom, and courage. The instruction to obey in this chapter is to serve faithfully, walk in wisdom, and remain devoted to God's calling. We are instructed to care for those in need. We are also instructed to choose leaders who are full of the Spirit and wisdom. This shows the importance of character in leadership. Another instruction is to remain focused on prayer and the word. The apostles did not allow distractions to pull them away from their calling. We are also instructed to stand firm in truth even when facing opposition. Obedience means living with purpose and faithfulness. The sin to confess in this chapter is neglect. The widows were being overlooked, which reminds us that we can sometimes miss the needs around us. We must confess when we fail to care for others. Another sin to confess is division. Conflict can divide us if we are not careful. We must confess attitudes that lead to disunity. We also need to confess fear. Stephen faced opposition, but we often shrink back. Confession brings us back to a place of humility and obedience. The example to follow in this chapter is Stephen. He was full of faith, the Holy Spirit, and wisdom. He served faithfully and stood boldly for truth. Even when falsely accused, he remained steadfast. We also see the example of the apostles, who led with wisdom and clarity. They addressed the problem and stayed focused on their calling. Following these examples means serving faithfully, leading wisely, and standing firm. Acts chapter 6 reminds us that God's work grows when his people serve with humility and faithfulness. It calls us to care for others, stay united, and remain committed to truth. Take time today to reflect on your walk with God. Are you serving where God has placed you? Are you walking in unity with others? Are you standing firm in truth when it is challenged? If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded of the importance of faithful service. Let's finish today by lifting our hearts together before the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that our listeners chose to spend their time with us in your word today. Thank you for the truth of Acts chapter 6 and the reminder that every act of service matters. Lord, help us to serve with humility and to care for those around us. Give us wisdom to lead in faithfulness, to follow your calling. Strengthen us to stand firm in truth and to live in unity with others. We pray that this message would encourage every listener and draw them closer to you. May God bless you and keep you in his grace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
