Today we are studying Acts Chapter 8. In this chapter, persecution begins to scatter the church, but instead of stopping the gospel, it causes it to spread. Philip goes to Samaria and proclaims Christ, many believe, and lives are transformed. We also see the story of Simon the sorcerer, who reveals the danger of false faith. Then Philip is led by the Spirit to share the gospel with an Ethiopian official, showing that salvation is for all people. Acts 8:4 says, “So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the word.” This chapter reminds us that God can use even difficult circumstances to accomplish His purpose.

What a blessing it is to see God's word reaching people in places we may never go ourselves. This reminds me of Ecclesiastes chapter 12, verse 11. The words of the wise are like goats, and those from masters of collections are like firmly embedded nails. The sayings are given by one shepherd, pointing out that God's word guides us, steadies us, and anchors us, given to us by the one true shepherd. Praise God that his word is guiding and directing lives in 44 countries around the world. We want to take a moment to say hello to our listeners in Oslo, Norway, Alberton, Gautang, South Africa, Little Rock, Arkansas, United States, Paris and Cyprus, Texas, United States. We're grateful you've joined us today. Thank you for being part of this mission. It means so much to have you listening.

Welcome to Giving God Praise. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible, book by book and chapter by chapter. Our desire is to discover not only what God's Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily life. In each episode, we explore a promise to claim, a response to make, an attitude to change, an instruction to obey, a sin to confess, and an example to follow. So let's go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today's teaching. Acts 8 4 says, So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the word. This chapter reminds us that God can use even difficult circumstances to accomplish his purpose. Let's begin reading Acts chapter 8. Saul agreed with putting him to death. On that day, a severe persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the land of Judea and Samaria. Devout men buried Stephen and mourned deeply over him. Saul, however, was ravaging the church. He would enter house after house, drag off men and women, and put them in prison. So those who were scattered went on their way, preaching the message of good news. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. The crowds paid attention with one mind to what Philip said, as they heard and saw the signs he was performing. For unclean spirits crying out with a loud voice, woe state came out of many who were possessed, and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city. A man named Simon had previously practiced sorcery in that city and astounded the Samaritan people, while claiming to be somebody great. They all paid attention to him, from the least of them to the greatest, and they said, This man is called the great power of God. They were attentive to him because he had astounded them with his sorceries for a long time. But when they believed Philip, as he preached the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. Then even Simon himself believed. And after he was baptized, he went around constantly with Philip, and was astounded as he observed the signs and great miracles that were being performed. When the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had welcomed God's message, they sent Peter and John to them. After they went down there, they prayed for them, so the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit. For he had not yet come down on any of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. When Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, saying, Give me this power too, so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit. But Peter told him, May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought the gift of God could be obtained with money. You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord, that the intent of your heart may be forgiven you, for I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity. Please pray to the Lord for me, Simon replied, so that nothing you have said may happen to me. Then, after they had testified and spoken the message of the Lord, they traveled back to Jerusalem, evangelizing many villages of the Samaritans. An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is the desert road. So he got up and went. There was an Ethiopian man, a eunuch and high official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of her entire treasury. He had come to worship in Jerusalem and was sitting in his chariot on his way home, reading the prophet Isaiah aloud. The Spirit told Philip, Go and join that chariot. When Philip ran up to it, he heard him reading the prophet Isaiah and said, Do you understand what you're reading? How can I, he said, unless someone guides me? So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Now the scripture passage he was reading was this: He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb is silent before its shearer, so he does not open his mouth. In his humiliation, justice was denied him. Who will describe his generation? For his life is taken from the earth. The eunuch replied to Philip, I ask you, who is the prophet saying this about himself or another person? So Philip proceeded to tell him the good news about Jesus, beginning from that scripture. As they were traveling down the road, they came to some water. The eunuch said, Look, there's water. What would keep me from being baptized? And Philip said, If you believe with all your heart you may. And he replied, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Then he ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any longer. But he went on his way, rejoicing. Philip appeared in Azodus, and he was traveling and evangelizing all the towns until he came to Caesarea. Let's take a moment to slow down and focus our hearts on the Lord. Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of Acts chapter 8 and the reminder that your word continues to spread no matter the circumstances. Thank you that you are always at work, even in moments of difficulty and uncertainty. Lord, help us to trust you when life doesn't go as planned. Give us boldness to share the gospel wherever you place us. Guide us by your Spirit so that we are sensitive to your leading. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Now that we've read God's word and prepared our hearts in prayer, let's begin our praise study and listen to what God wants to say to our hearts today. In Acts chapter 8, we see a powerful promise to claim in the truth that God's purpose cannot be stopped. Persecution scattered the believers, but it did not silence them. Instead, the gospel spread even further. This reminds us that God is in control even when circumstances seem difficult. What looks like disruption can actually be part of his plan. We also see the promise that God leads his people. The Spirit directed Philip exactly where to go. This shows us that God guides those who are willing to follow. This promise gives us confidence that God is working in every situation. The response to make in this chapter is to go and share the gospel. The scattered believers did not remain silent, they preached wherever they went. Our response should be the same. We are called to share the truth of Jesus in our everyday lives. We also respond by being sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Philip listened and obeyed immediately. We are called to follow God's leading without hesitation. Another response is genuine faith. Simon believed outwardly, but his heart was not right. This reminds us that our faith must be real and sincere. We are called to change our attitude from comfort to mission. The believers were forced out of their homes, yet they continued to serve God. We must shift from seeking comfort to embracing God's purpose. Another attitude to change is from control to trust. Philip followed the Spirit without knowing the full plan. We must learn to trust God step by step. We also need to change from superficial faith to genuine transformation. True faith changes the heart, not just outward actions. The instruction to obey in this chapter is to follow the Spirit, share the gospel, and live with authentic faith. We are instructed to go where God leads us. We are also instructed to speak the truth of Jesus boldly. Another instruction is to examine our hearts. Faith is not just about what we say, it is about who we are. Obedience means living with sincerity and purpose. The sin to confess in this chapter is false or shallow faith. Simon wanted the power of God without a right heart. We must confess when our motives are not pure. Another sin to confess is disobedience. If God is leading us and we hesitate, we must bring that before Him. We also need to confess fear. Fear can keep us from sharing the gospel. Confession brings us back to a place of surrender and obedience. The example to follow in this chapter is Philip. He was willing to go wherever God sent him. He preached boldly and obeyed immediately. We also see the Ethiopian official who responded with humility and joy. He received the truth and acted on it. These examples show us what it means to follow God faithfully. Acts chapter 8 reminds us that God's mission continues no matter the circumstances. It calls us to trust His plan, follow His leading, and share His truth. Take time today to reflect on your walk with God. Are you willing to go where He leads? Are you sharing the gospel in your daily life? Is your faith genuine and growing? If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded that God is always at work. Let's close today by bringing our hearts before the Lord in prayer. Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that our listeners chose to spend their time with us in your word today. Thank you for the truth of Acts chapter 8 and the reminder that your gospel continues to spread. Lord, help us to follow your spirit and to share your truth boldly. Give us hearts that are sincere and fully devoted to you. Strengthen us to trust your plan in every circumstance. We pray that this message would encourage every listener and draw them closer to you. May God bless you and keep you in his grace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
