Today we continue our study through the Book of Romans with Romans Chapter 13. In this chapter, Paul teaches believers about submitting to governing authorities, living responsibly before others, loving our neighbors, and walking in spiritual readiness as people who belong to Christ. Romans Chapter 13 reminds believers that faith is not meant to remain isolated within private worship alone; it should shape how we live publicly, how we treat others, and how we conduct ourselves daily.

It's incredible to see how God's word continues to call people closer to Him. This reminds me of James chapter 1, verse 22. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Praise God that his word is not only being heard, but lived out in 46 countries around the world. We want to take a moment to say hello to our listeners in Brooklyn, New York, and Hopkinsville, Kentucky, United States. Haugasund, Rogaland, Norway, Bone Gun, North Chungchong, and Gimhei Gyongsong Namdo, South Korea. We're grateful you've joined us today. Thank you for being part of this ministry. It means so much to have you listening.

Welcome to Giving God Praise. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible book by book and chapter by chapter. Our desire is to discover not only what God's Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily lives. In each episode, we explore a promise to claim, a response to make, an attitude to change, an instruction to obey, a sin to confess, and an example to follow. So let's go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today's teaching. Today we continue our study through the book of Romans with Romans chapter 13. In this chapter, Paul teaches believers about submitting to governing authorities, living responsibly before others, loving our neighbors, and walking in spiritual readiness as people who belong to Christ. Romans chapter 13 reminds believers that faith is not meant to remain isolated within private worship alone. It should shape how we live publicly, how we treat others, and how we conduct ourselves daily. This chapter is relevant to me today as it was when Paul first wrote it. I live in a culture where anger, division, outrage, selfishness, and hostility often dominate conversations and relationships. It can become easy for me to react emotionally, live carelessly, or become consumed with temporary, worldly conflicts. Yet Romans chapter 13 continually points me back toward living honorably, loving others sincerely, and remembering that I belong to Christ. This chapter also reminds me that time is short and that I am called to wake up spiritually, rather than drifting through life distracted or spiritually asleep. And if I am honest with myself, I need the reminder today that following Jesus should influence not only my beliefs, but also my conduct, attitude, relationships, and daily decisions. This chapter reminds us that believers are called to live honorably, walk in love, and remain spiritually awake as we follow Jesus Christ. So let's begin reading Romans chapter 13. Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God. So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God's command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have its approval. For government is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For government is God's servant, an avenger that brings wrath on the one who does wrong. Therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath, but also because of your conscience. And for this reason you pay taxes, since the authorities are God's public servants, continually attending to these tasks. Pay your obligations to everyone, taxes to those you owe taxes, tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, and honor to those you owe honor. Do not owe anyone anything except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet. And whatever other commandment, all are summed up by this Love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law. Besides this, knowing the time, it is already the hour for you to wake up from sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is nearly over, and the daylight is near. So let us discard the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk with decency, as in the daylight, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual impurity and promiscuity, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires. Let's take a moment now to pause and bring our hearts before the Lord. Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of Romans chapter 13 and the reminder that you have called us to live honorably, walk in love, and reflect Christ in every area of our lives. Lord, help us conduct ourselves with integrity, humility, respect, and genuine love toward others. Guard our hearts from anger, jealousy, division, selfishness, compromise, and spiritual laziness. Teach us to walk as children of light, and help us remain spiritually awake and ready as we follow you. Strengthen every listener today who may feel distracted, discouraged, or overwhelmed by the darkness and confusion in this world. Remind us that our hope is found in Jesus Christ and help us live daily in a way that honors you publicly and privately. Open our hearts today to receive your truth deeply and continue shaping us into the image of Christ. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Now that we have read God's Word and opened our hearts to Him in prayer, let's begin our praise study and listen to what God wants to say to our hearts today. One powerful promise we see in Romans chapter 13 is that love fulfills the heart of God's commands. Paul reminds believers that genuine love does no wrong to a neighbor. That promise matters deeply because the world often defines love through emotions, convenience, or self-interest. But biblical love reflects the character of God and seeks the good of others. When believers walk in Christ-like love, they reflect God's heart to the world around them. Another promise in this chapter is that believers are called to walk in the light rather than remain trapped in darkness. Through Jesus Christ, Christians are no longer slaves to sinful living, spiritual confusion, or hopelessness. God gives believers the ability to live differently through his grace and strength. This chapter also reminds us that salvation is drawing nearer and that God is still actively working out his redemptive plan. And honestly, there is something deeply encouraging about remembering that even in a world filled with darkness, division, and uncertainty, believers are called to carry the light and hope of Jesus Christ into everyday life. If this study is encouraging you today, consider sharing it with someone who may need the reminder that God still calls his people to walk in love, truth, and spiritual readiness. The response we are called to make in Romans chapter 13 is to live responsibly and honorably before both God and others. Paul teaches believers to respect authority, fulfill obligations, and conduct themselves with integrity. That response challenges Christians to represent Christ well, not only inside church settings, but also in daily life through attitudes, speech, work ethic, relationships, and personal conduct. Another response we see in this chapter is loving others sincerely. Paul explains that love fulfills the law because genuine love seeks what is good and honorable toward others. This chapter also calls believers to wake up spiritually and stop living carelessly. Paul describes believers as putting aside deeds of darkness and putting on the armor of light. That means Christians should not drift passively through life, allowing compromise, jealousy, anger, impurity, or selfish desires to control them. Instead, believers are called to pursue holiness intentionally. And maybe someone listening today needs the reminder that spiritual maturity is not only about what we believe intellectually, but also about how we live daily before a watching world. Romans chapter 13 challenges us to change our attitude from spiritual laziness to spiritual readiness. Paul warns believers that the time has come to wake up from sleep because salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. It becomes easy for people to grow spiritually distracted, comfortable, or passive, especially in a world full of constant noise and temptation. Yet this chapter reminds believers to stay alert spiritually and live with eternal perspective. This chapter also calls us to move from selfishness to love. Human nature naturally focuses on personal comfort, personal rights, and self-interest. But biblical love seeks the good of others and reflects the heart of Christ. Another attitude to change is moving from worldly living to Christ-centered living. Paul tells believers to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and stop making plans for sinful desires. One reason I appreciate Romans chapter 13 is because it reminds us that Christianity is not only about avoiding sin, it is about actively pursuing a life that reflects Jesus Christ through love, integrity, humility, and spiritual attentiveness. The instruction to obey in Romans chapter 13 is to live honorably and walk in love as followers of Jesus Christ. Paul instructs believers to respect governing authorities, fulfill responsibilities honestly, and conduct themselves with integrity before others. That instruction reminds Christians that faith should shape how we live publicly as well as privately. Another instruction in this chapter is to love our neighbors as ourselves. Paul explains that love fulfills the law because genuine love does no harm to others. Christians are called to treat people with kindness, respect, mercy, patience, and sincerity rather than selfishness or hostility. This chapter also instructs believers to put aside deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Obedience means actively rejecting sinful patterns, compromise, jealousy, immorality, drunkenness, and divisive behavior, while pursuing holiness and spiritual maturity instead. As we continue walking through Romans together, my prayer is that God would continue helping us live as people who reflect the light, love, and character of Jesus Christ daily. The sin to confess in Romans chapter 13 is the sin of spiritual complacency. Paul warns believers to wake up spiritually and stop drifting through life, distracted or spiritually asleep. It becomes easy for people to grow comfortable, passive, or careless in their walk with God, while becoming consumed with temporary, worldly concerns instead of eternal priorities. This chapter also confronts the sin of selfishness. Human nature naturally prioritizes personal desires, comfort, and emotions above loving others well. Yet Paul reminds believers that love fulfills the law. Another sin to confess is continuing to make room for sinful desires and deeds of darkness. Paul specifically warns against impurity, jealousy, drunkenness, quarreling, and other sinful behaviors that pull hearts away from God. Confession allows believers to bring compromise, anger, selfishness, bitterness, pride, lust, distraction, and spiritual laziness honestly before the Lord, so he can continue transforming them through his grace. And maybe someone listening today needs the reminder that God still calls believers to live differently from the world around them, because they now belong to Jesus Christ. The example to follow in Romans chapter 13 is ultimately Jesus Christ Himself. Paul tells believers to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, meaning Christians are called to reflect his character, love, humility, purity, and obedience daily. Jesus consistently walked in truth, mercy, compassion, integrity, and holiness, even while living in a broken world filled with opposition and darkness. This chapter also gives believers the example of living responsibly and honorably before others. Paul emphasizes respect, love, integrity, and spiritual readiness as marks of faithful Christian living. Another example we see is walking in the light instead of darkness. Believers are called to live openly and faithfully before God, rather than hiding compromise or sinful living. Every time Christians choose love over selfishness, peace over division, purity over compromise, or integrity over hypocrisy, they reflect the transforming work of Christ described throughout Romans chapter 13. Romans chapter 13 reminds us that believers are called to live honorably, walk in love, and remain spiritually awake as followers of Jesus Christ. This chapter challenges Christians to stop drifting spiritually and instead live intentionally with holiness, integrity, humility, and love toward others. It reminds us that we belong to Christ and are called to reflect his light in a world filled with darkness and confusion. Take time today to reflect honestly before the Lord. Are there distractions, sinful habits, selfish attitudes, or spiritual compromises pulling your heart away from God? Have you become spiritually passive instead of living with eternal perspective and spiritual readiness? And are you reflecting the love and character of Christ in your daily life and relationships? If this message encouraged you today, consider sharing it with someone who may need the reminder that God still calls his people to walk in love, truth, and spiritual readiness.
