Today we begin our study through the Book of 1 Corinthians with Chapter 1. Paul wrote this letter to the church in Corinth to address divisions, spiritual immaturity, pride, worldly thinking, and practical issues affecting the believers there. Even though the Corinthian church struggled with many problems, Paul continually pointed them back toward Jesus Christ as the true source of wisdom, unity, and spiritual strength.

It's a blessing to see how God's word continues to stand as our foundation. This reminds me of Luke chapter 8, verse 21. My mother and my brothers are those who hear and do the word of God. Praise God that his word is being heard and lived out in 47 countries around the world. We want to take a moment to say hello to our listeners in Bern, Bern, Switzerland, Charlton, Greenwich, United Kingdom, Louisville, Kentucky, United States, Ciudad de la Costa, Canalones, Uruguay, and Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. SPEAKER_00Welcome to Giving God Praise. This is a podcast where we walk through the entire Bible book by book and chapter by chapter. Our goal is to discover not only what God's Word says, but what it means to praise God in our daily lives. In each episode, we explore a promise to claim, a response to make, an attitude to change, an instruction to obey, a sin to confess, and an example to follow. So let's go ahead and grab our Bibles and dive into today's teaching. I know how easy it is to get distracted by opinions, comparisons, personalities, and the pressure to prove myself. Sometimes I can start focusing more on human approval, accomplishments, or what other people think instead of keeping my eyes fully centered on Jesus Christ. What challenges me about 1 Corinthians chapter 1 is that Paul continually points everything back to the cross. The gospel was never meant to glorify human wisdom or human success. It was always meant to glorify Christ alone. I also find a lot of encouragement in the reminder that God often chooses ordinary, weak, overlooked, and imperfect people to accomplish his purposes. There are moments when I feel inadequate or unqualified, but this chapter reminds me that God's power is not dependent on human strength. He works through people who are simply willing to trust him faithfully and give him the glory. This chapter reminds me that true wisdom, unity, and spiritual strength are found in Jesus Christ, rather than in human pride or worldly wisdom. So let's begin reading 1 Corinthians chapter 1. Paul, called as an apostle of Christ Jesus by God's will, and Sosthenes our brother, to God's church at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus and called as saints, with all those in every place who call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their Lord and ours. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I always thank my God for you because of God's grace given to you in Christ Jesus, that by him you were enriched in everything, in all speech and all knowledge. In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you, so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful. You were called by Him into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction. For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers, by members of Chloe's household, that there is rivalry among you. What I am saying is this each of you says, I'm with Paul, or, I'm with Apollos, or, I'm with Cephas, or I'm with Christ. Is Christ divided? Was it Paul who was crucified for you? Or were you baptized in Paul's name? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, so that no one can say you were baptized in my name. I did, in fact, baptize the household of Stephanus. Beyond that, I don't know if I baptized anyone else. For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to evangelize. Not with clever words, so that the cross of Christ will not be emptied of its effect. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is God's power to us who are being saved. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the experts. Where is the philosopher? Where is the scholar? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made the world's wisdom foolish? For since, in God's wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of the message preached. For the Jews ask for signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles. Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is God's power and God's wisdom, because God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. Brothers, consider your calling. Not many are wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth. Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world, what is viewed as nothing, to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one can boast in his presence. But it is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became God-given wisdom for us, our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. In order that, as it is written, the one who boasts must boast in the Lord. Let's take a moment now to pause and bring our hearts before the Lord. Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of 1 Corinthians chapter 1, and the reminder that true wisdom, strength, and salvation are found in Jesus Christ alone. Lord, guard our hearts from pride, division, comparison, and worldly thinking that pulls our focus away from you. Teach us to walk in humility and unity as believers, and help us remember that all glory belongs to Christ. Strengthen every listener today who may feel weak, overlooked, unqualified, or discouraged. Remind us that you delight in working through ordinary people so your power and grace can be clearly seen. Help us center our lives completely on the message of the cross and the hope found through Jesus Christ. Open our hearts today to receive your truth deeply and continue shaping us through your wisdom rather than the wisdom of the world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

SPEAKER_00Now that we have read God's word and opened our hearts to Him in prayer, let's begin our praise study and listen to what God wants to say to our hearts today. One powerful promise we see in 1 Corinthians chapter 1 is that God is faithful and will strengthen his people to the end. Paul reminded the Corinthian believers that despite their weaknesses, struggles, immaturity, and divisions, God had called them into fellowship with Jesus Christ and would continue working in their lives. That promise matters deeply because believers often become discouraged by their own failures, weaknesses, or imperfections. Yet this chapter reminds us that our hope ultimately rests in God's faithfulness rather than our own strength. Another promise in this chapter is that the message of the cross is still the power of God for salvation. The world may reject, mock, or misunderstand the gospel, but God continues using the message of Jesus Christ to transform hearts and save lives. This chapter also reminds believers that God delights in working through ordinary people so that no one can boast before him. What encourages me about this chapter is realizing that God does not require human greatness before he can use someone powerfully. He works through surrendered hearts that trust him fully and give him the glory. If this study is encouraging you today, consider sharing it with someone who may need the reminder that God's strength and faithfulness are greater than human weakness. The response we are called to make in 1 Corinthians chapter 1 is to center our lives completely on Jesus Christ, rather than on personalities, pride, or worldly wisdom. Paul confronted the divisions within the Corinthian church because believers were building their identities around human leaders instead of remaining united in Christ. That response challenges Christians today because it becomes easy to elevate opinions, preferences, traditions, or personalities above the gospel itself. Another response we see in this chapter is humility. Paul reminds believers that salvation comes through God's grace and power, not through human achievement or wisdom. Christians are called to boast only in the Lord, rather than in themselves. This chapter also calls believers to trust the power of the gospel, even when the world dismisses or rejects it. The message of the cross may seem foolish to worldly thinking, but it remains the power of God for salvation. And maybe someone listening today needs the reminder that faithfulness is not about impressing people with strength or success. It is about remaining surrendered to Jesus Christ and trusting him fully. Human nature naturally seeks recognition, comparison, influence, and validation from others. Yet Paul reminds believers that all wisdom, righteousness, and salvation come through Jesus Christ alone. This chapter also calls us to move from division to unity. The Corinthian believers were allowing rivalries and personalities to create separation within the church, but Paul continually pointed them back toward unity in Christ. Another attitude to change is moving from dependence on worldly wisdom to dependence on God's wisdom. The world often values status, intelligence, power, influence, and self-sufficiency. But God's kingdom operates differently. One thing that stands out to me personally in this chapter is how often God chooses people the world would overlook. That reminds me that Christianity has never been about appearing impressive outwardly. It has always been about trusting God enough to let his power work through weak and willing people who give him the glory. The instruction to obey in 1 Corinthians chapter 1 is to remain united in Christ and keep the gospel at the center of everything. Paul specifically urged believers to reject division and pursue unity with the same understanding and conviction. That instruction reminds Christians that the church was never meant to revolve around personalities or preferences. It was built around Jesus Christ alone. Another instruction in this chapter is to boast only in the Lord. Believers are called to walk in humility and remember that every spiritual blessing comes through God's grace rather than human effort or ability. This chapter also instructs believers not to rely on worldly wisdom above God's truth. Paul emphasized that human wisdom could never accomplish salvation because only the cross of Christ carries the power to save. Obedience means trusting God's truth, even when it conflicts with worldly thinking or cultural values. As we begin walking through 1 Corinthians together, my prayer is that God would continue helping us stay grounded in humility, unity, and the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The sin to confess in 1 Corinthians chapter 1 is the sin of pride and division. Paul confronted believers who were dividing themselves into groups based on loyalty to different leaders rather than remaining centered on Christ. Human nature naturally drifts toward comparison, competition, self-importance, and elevating personal preferences above unity. This chapter also confronts the sin of depending more on worldly wisdom than on God's truth. People often trust education, success, influence, or human reasoning more than the wisdom of God revealed through the gospel. Another sin to confess is seeking recognition and approval from people rather than giving glory fully to Christ. Confession allows believers to bring pride, jealousy, insecurity, division, selfish ambition, comparison, and spiritual arrogance honestly before the Lord, so he can continue shaping hearts through his grace. As I read this chapter, it reminds me how easy it can be to subtly make faith about ourselves instead of about Jesus. Yet the cross continually calls us back toward humility, surrender, and dependence on God alone. The example to follow in 1 Corinthians chapter 1 is the Apostle Paul himself, as he continually pointed people away from himself and toward Jesus Christ. Even though Paul was greatly used by God, he refused to let ministry become centered around personality, popularity, or personal recognition. His focus remained on proclaiming Christ crucified. This chapter also gives believers the example of humility before God. Paul reminded the church that God often chooses what appears weak, foolish, or insignificant in the eyes of the world, so that his power and glory become visible. Another example we see is remaining faithful to the gospel, even when the message is unpopular or misunderstood by culture. Paul did not try to reshape the message of the cross to make it more acceptable to worldly thinking. Every time believers choose humility over pride, unity over division, faith over worldly wisdom, or Christ over self-glory, they reflect the kind of faithfulness described throughout 1 Corinthians chapter 1. 1 Corinthians 1 reminds us that true wisdom, unity, salvation, and spiritual strength are found in Jesus Christ alone. This chapter challenges believers to reject pride, comparison, division, and dependence on worldly wisdom while remaining centered fully on the message of the cross. It reminds us that God often works through ordinary and imperfect people so that his power and glory can be clearly seen. Take time today to reflect honestly before the Lord. Are pride, comparison, insecurity, or division pulling your focus away from Jesus Christ? Have worldly opinions or human approval become more important than God's truth in your life? And are you truly placing your confidence in the power of the gospel rather than in yourself? If this message encouraged you today, consider sharing it with someone who may need the reminder that God still works powerfully through ordinary people who trust him faithfully. We invite you to continue walking with us through God's Word at www.givinggodpraisepodcast.com as we grow together, book by book and chapter by chapter. As we close today's praise study, let's take a moment to bring our hearts before the Lord together in prayer.
